i am the lurk king
I honestly keep forgetting this exists, I think its my sudden lack to really want to do any sorta of RPing. trust me, its not that I was bored of the RP. I was so stoked to see you create an Ace combat RP again. Its just the last few weeks Ive been out of it to the point I've already dropped out of two other RPs. I really don't want to drop out of this one if you'll except this reason for my unexcused absence.
As for hammer and Calamity. Hammer has sorta just stopped jumping on his PC all together and Calamity has been having a really hard time at work. Both are in my gaming clan and one we work on the same base. In short, I think it might be same to assume they are dropping out. But I can get a confirmation for you guys if needed.
Alright sounds good. It may be a long post as I am thinking of going over a short briefing for his squad, them leaving the base, Leon's squad being ambushed, and then him being sent over as reinforcements. If that is alright. If not I can definitely shorten down.Whisker LoneSniper87 Razgriz Commissar Darman SirDerpingtonIV
Okay. Given Commissar's previous message we're going to have to write out Hammer and Gyrwulf's characters as being shot down and KIA in this battle. I'll take care of that on my next post once you guys have had some time to get in your first response to the enemy's sudden stealth attack.
Dai Tenshi, we'll have your character arrive and reinforce after I write Hammer and Gyrwulf out, so sit tight for a bit and I'll tag you in my post to give you the go-ahead to introduce your character.

I'll being getting an answer from calamity tonight. heading to his place for a baby gender reveal. still waiting for hammer.
also, will get a post out tomorrow. not gonna try to post while drinking.
I just met another AC fan when I was playing fractured space. I see them around here and there. But you are right. Nice to meet other AC fans.Alright. Hope they make it back or we'll have our very own Journey Home before the story even gets off the ground. :/
If not, Good luck to'em. Don't get to meet very many AC fans around.
well, Calamity sadly isn't gonna be joining us any longer. he might jump on at some point in the next few days to give a goodbye post on OOC.
so, I got an answer from hammer as well. he can no longer partake due to work issues. or lack of work is a better way to say it. but both Hammer and Calamity did ask to not have their chars killed. shot down and injured is fine. just not killed.
Like that one Estovakian pilot in AC6
I can understand their reluctance to have their characters killed off, as I wouldn't really enjoy the idea myself if I were in their shoes. Working hard to create a character and being forced to leave the RP is bad enough. But learning that the GM is going to kill your character off can, depending on the circumstances, be seen as a slap in the face or as a punishment for leaving. This situation is not meant to be taken that way.
You told me of their circumstances for leaving, and I respect them. What follows is not meant to be a slap in the face nor to be seen as punishment for their departure.
In a story like this one where I told everyone going into it that it would be heart wrenching tale which is very much evocative of the sorrow and pain we received along the way in the games such as in the Journey Home mission where Chopper was shot down, it makes more sense for the story to have their characters killed because it creates a more realistic and immersive experience for those of us who remain.
When it comes to the reality of war and the pain it causes, there's very little that can compare to a soldier/pilot/sailor losing one or more of their best friends and comrades in arms and being forced to carry on despite the emotional trauma the experience causes. What better way to really drive the point home to our characters that this is what they signed up for? This is the reality they now have to live with since another war is about to start. They're going to keep losing friends and comrades. They're going to experience failure and helplessness while trying to protect those they care about.
It's the cold reality of war that people, most commonly the ones who do the fighting for the sake of their countrymen and homeland, die no matter what we do.
So again I don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but Hammer and Calamaty's departure and the lack of presence from the others controlling the remaining characters gives me the perfect opening to kickstart his RP's intentionally powerful and emotional story. Like I said before I know that it hurts bad enough when you work hard to create a character and have to leave the RP, and finding out the GM wants to kill them makes it even worse because it feels almost no matter what like a punishment. But in this case it's not a punishment.
The fact is that our characters would end up with an unrealistic expectation of what this war will bring if everyone managed to survive such a rapid and vicious surprise attack by the enemy. Even before Hammer and Calamity departed I was planning to kill Charlie and have it confirmed unlike Bartlett's survival and capture in AC5, and I still will. Our flight lead is not going to survive this attack in the end. And with him being the most experienced pilot among them it makes sense that if he's KIA that there will be others among the less experienced who share his fate.
