Fantasy A Union in Chaos

(Ari discussed the Book with the Paladins and he sent his men to go get it. Now they're just sitting there awkwardly. He's probably near the old man.)

@Inheritance

"Shouldn't you be heading to wherever your crusade takes you, or are you waiting on your men to return?"

@Birdsie

Celia moved to the cabin on her boat. She went to her desk and looked out the windows. No one was coming. She sits down with a sigh and looks at the map. "Where could you be..." She said to herself as she looked down at the map. Much of the map had red X's on the lands and marked "not there" or "Was there".

Kaldor Dreigo

He looked up at him. "Son, we've walked over 300 kilometers straight without a rest. Let us catch a breath. Besides, that warlock of yours said he'll fix things. I have ran into him in the past. Killing him took me and my team 7 years.... Killing him. Damn Necromancer, with his... vile, unclean practices." he said, with clear disgust at the end. Kaldor sighed and looked up at Ari again saying "Perhaps I should retire? I am already very old. Perhaps someone else can take my place? When I was younger, in my prime... I could march through half of Rivannia without a rest. And that takes a whole day." with a self-loathing tone.

"You don't seem to be the retiring type. Even if you're not in your physical prime anymore, you still have the leadership skills. A battle-born mind...... Regardless though, you've been looking for a replacement if you're considering retirement, right?"

@Birdsie

Ari looked back towards his house. He had to get back to the team. The clock was ticking on oblivion, but he had to wait until they brought back the book.

He looked at him, taking off his helmet. Kaldor had blue, rather dark eyes. Pale skin and short hair of white, elderly color. His skin looked rather old. He was for sure 60 at least. "I have, but... I can find no one worthy. I have considered Titus, but he died." he responded to Ari, with a rather sad, but wise tone of an elderly man that has seen his share of fights and bloodspill. His voice was like wine, holy wine, but that wine also had much blood and experience inside.

He laid his helmet on the ground next to the rock he was sitting on, and said "Then there's Decius, but he is not much of a fighter. There's no one else with the right priveledges. I guess it will be Decius then." with a slightly reluctant voice.

"The reason you're considering it is because you're not in your physical prime anymore, right? If he isn't much of a fighter, then he can't be the one......... Ari sat down beside him. "At the end of the day though, it should be laid to rest until after this mission. Neither of us knows if we'll survive, so pondering it now would hold you back."

He responded "Pondering about it is all I am able to do, I'm afraid. If I die during the battle, the order will be left without a leader. This will leave many members arguing over who should become the new one. The internal struggle might rip us apart..." with a surprised face. Kaldor was surprised that the man was inquiring about the state of the Sons of Korhal, but after all Kaldor would rather speak about such matters with someone from the outside. Someone who could shine some helpful light on the situation, to help make the right choice.

He started looking around, admiring the green, natural landscape around them. It was very curious and beatiful, some small animals could be seen around along with green trees, growing high and low. "About the books. Do you know the location of the rest? I've heard legends. The Book of the Body is said to be somewhere in the Rivannian Capital. The Book of the Mind is of course with my order, but then there's the Soul... I heard that it's hidden deep underwater, in some kind of palace. I have heard such things, because I am meant to. We have been hunting for the books for the last 3 centuries of our existence. Our order was created to purge the land of Vampires and their clans, however once we were done we went after the books, by the order of the king at the time. We only found the Book of the Mind." he explained.

Kaldor was hungry, so deciding not to waste the Rations, he took off his right metal glove and grabbed off some berries from a bush next to him. After examining that they are safe to eat he began consumption. Natural food was good food. Berries might not satisfy hunger as good as a big, solid slice of beef but they are healthy, and in the right amount they can also stop hunger. An old Paladin like Kaldor didn't need much to keep his already dissolved body apart, but he could sure use more of such meals, just for health. At this rate he would die from old age in about 10 years.

Ari pulled out his bag. "This is coming from an outsider who knows nothing about your group, so take what I say with a grain of salt: If you can't decide yourself, something that would speak your language is a tournament. I'm sure your men can honor the terms of battle. Not a fight to the death, but winner leads. The terms? Only those eligible for the top position participates if not all. If you can't be matched, then it'll bring out the second best. Must be hard to track the skill of an entire army."

He pulled out some food and summoned the Yellow Rose, whose petals were extremely hot. He put the food in a small sphere of violently rotating air and petals. It came out cooked. He held out some for the leader while eating some himself. His house was right there, so he could re-stack immediately. "As for the Books, We believe one to be in the Castle in Toron, somewhere in a dungeon library. However, we've infiltrated that castle twice already. The security has to be the highest order we've ever seen. First time was easy. Second time, we took on a soul pit controlled by Hades. I don't know about this Elder God stuff, but if it's to guard the books, I fear we're biting more than we can chew. We've slain 2 gods and 1 god-soul (Khan), but this may be an even higher power. Things will be worse if the books have some sort of power measure to prevent them from coming together."

Ari looked around, pondering how they were to get to Toron and underwater. Was it in a place like Atlantis? Or some higher power place just made underwater? Celia was the best option to getting there regardless, but was the team willing to go that far?

He shaked on his proposition. "No. I am afraid that's impossible to arrange. Our tradition forbids such things. Instead a member wishing to take the place of chapter-master must first complete several trials, but they must be completed of his own free will. Then the Chapter-Master makes the final choice." he explained, then looking around. "Titus and Decius were the only ones who completed the trials, but... Well. I have told Decius if I die he is to take my place, but I don't think he'll be a good replacement." he said, glancing around the place and taking inspiration from the nature around them.

Ari wasn't gonna pry any further and ask why he doubted Decius. "The way I see it then, all you can do is pull the strings from the back, as a sort of parting gift if you do die. Tell your most trusted to complete the trials. If there's a measure to prevent bad or weak leaders, like a dual challenge after you complete the trial, they can challenge and take it."

"If all other theories fails, you can't go off a what if. We could all die and the odds of living are against us. As soon as we get the book, we have to get the book in Toron, then it's into the sea."

Not once has Ari been to Toron and not broke into that castle. He could use a vacation, but not until they survive Oblivion

He rose his head up, along with his eyebrows. "That is actually very clever and smart. Thank you for the advice, my friend." he responded, looking at Ari and gaining a little smile. An old Paladin's smile, one like this one. It could probably heal people, with all of the joy of life in it. He gave Ari a few pats on the back, however they were incredibly strong, and could probably cause a little pain because of the armor and strength that Kaldor has.

Kaldor got up and said "Well. If the other book is in Toron, we should get there as fast as possible." Kaldor looked at the hourglass... then after a moment said "94 hours left. That translates to a little less than 4 days."

Ari chuckled, ignoring the pain that ran through him. With that much strength, it's hard to know your strength. It was these moments he was actually glad to give up Poison magic. In his Black Assassin day's he'd have said something to get him killed. "No problem. Any info I learned, I'll take to the grave. You have my word."

He mentioned heading to Toron. Even though they were heading to the same place, it'd be best to keep the teams separate. Sandro was a major idiot and they'd probably kill him. The old man had a superiority complex paraded as wisdom. Tyr and Bailey were emotionally vulnerable. The only ones who seemed completely level-headed was him, Cross, and Celia

"We'll get moving to the castle asap. We'll probably get there first as we still have to go under the sea as well."
Ari picked up his bag. "I hope we meet again, but under less world-ending circumstances."

Ari took off back to the house to meet Jacen and Elisabeth. "Oi, I'm back. We need to get to Celia's ship asap. She's the fastest way to Toron." He flicked his crystal to get in contact with everyone who wasn't at the house with them.

Kaldor nodded to Ari and waved a little as the man left. "Good luck on your travels, my friend. May we one day meet again, in a better setting indeed." he confirmed what Ari said. Kaldor's mood was improved by a lot after the meeting with Ari, as the younger man, still in his prime and with a much smarter mind gave him a good idea on choosing the Chapter-Master.

Celia clutched her necklace. The time was coming soon, she felt it. She was not sure if she was ready, but soon she would be able to fulfill her duty to Kimonu. She stood up from her chair and walked out onto the deck. She made a double check on the cargo below. After she made sure she had everything she stood on the deck and waited.

Jacen turned around, seeing his master's return. "Do you have the book, master? Or it's location?" he asked, curiously and worryingly. He walked up to Ari and said "I am very excited for our travel, then. I will surely pull out much experience from it... if we survive." he said, with a VERY, DISTURBINGLY joyful tone... but it was still very respectful.

Jacen was fucking weird, like a child with sadistic tendencies from time to time. Ari had completely forgotten if he had the book or not. If he didn't have it, they'd meet up with them in Toron to retrieve it. Otherwise, it should be in his bag. "We'll be fine. I'll explain more to you on the way there, and will show you some pointers of general battle."
Arabelle took Ari's hand and kissed him. "Ari I have to take the twins." she murmured.
Ari kissed her back but shook his head. "We can't. We'll let the maids look after them. Bringing 3 month old twins into this will put them in danger."
