I want Nia to mess with a gun and accidentally invent the shotgun by just cramming stuff down the barrel...(it's a blunderbuss but don't worry about it)

Hey look! I'm the thousandth post. I feel cooler now, like I've accomplished something.

I'm the thousandth and second post. That makes me about two thousandths more accomplished.

I want Nia to mess with a gun and accidentally invent the shotgun by just cramming stuff down the barrel...(it's a blunderbuss but don't worry about it)

That sounds exactly like something she would do.

ThisUsernameIsALie ThisUsernameIsALie just so you know, magic is an extremely rare thing in this universe, very few people have it, and even less know how to use it properly.

Also we all have to decide on the capabilities of magic users..

Well, what sort of restrictions do you want to put in place? What do you want magic users to not be able to do?

Well I'm fine to stick with whatever restrictions are necessary. I typically shy away from OP magic characters, simply because it's not very interesting. In regards to the sleep spell for the bandits in my most recent post, I assume Elijah could do it because they were willing to let him because it met the scary gryphon and dwarf would leave, since I don't know whether or not the sleep spell would be pushing the limits. Alternatively, the bandits could just be fabulously weak-willed.

And in regards to Elijah's abilities in general, I wrote him with the idea that he was very gifted in the one specific area of "shadow magic" which went along with the stealthy rogue mage idea. The reason he was so adept at it is an important point in his backstory. With that in my mind, I didn't intend him to be OP and you can tell me if he starts to edge into that territory. For instance, the dagger (and other basic weapons) he can summon because they're "demonic" weapons (wielded by this world's equivalent of daedra or demons or djinn or whatever), and that's his branch. The sleep thing he can do because it goes along with the stealth "shadow" arts. The "shadow walk" that's mentioned basically makes him move a good bit faster and makes him quite difficult to see (gives him an aura of shadow), especially at night. All of his other abilities would be along the same lines, and while he could achieve very powerful effects, it would involve very serious risk to his well being. Also, he has no ability to cast spells of other "branches" of magic at all due to the aforementioned backstory. However, he is still very knowledgeable about all the branches and lore in general (as I mentioned in the CS). All that sound chill?

I think a fair restriction is such mind magic only works on the weak willed. Keep in mind that anyone can be weak willed given the circumstances. Take the bandits for instance: A Gryphon flew in, and from its back dropped a Dwarf that instantly K.O.d their ally, and their boss (I think you were in charge or something?) sold them out. I can imagine that would dampen their spirits.

Then again HoD is the boss.

Yeah, I think just avoiding having characters be OP in general will work as a rule when thinking about capabilities of magic users. So far the magic users we've established seem to only draw from a certain kinds of magic (Elijah with shadow magic, Kruziik with mainly mental based magic, Cassander with physical/dream magic). However - in terms of things like mind control, possession, and the consciousness-stealing ability I had Cassander accidentally use on Ru earlier - I think they could be within the reach of powerful magic users (Kruziik, for instance), but I don't think they should be used unless it's discussed before-hand. General etiquette I guess? I only say so because we've already semi established in story (Kruziik being able to inhabit people's minds/possess them, Cassander stealing consciousness, etc) and I was wondering if these would be able to be a factor in the future to delve in a bit more. I don't think they should be just a willy-nilly thing at all though.

It's really up to you Duke of Doge Duke of Doge - I'll be down with whatever, just checking what we're thinking with this stuff.

Also, I'm really just generally talking about characters using this stuff on other characters, not on NPC's - I think that might be a different thing entirely.
