TheCountryWarrior TheCountryWarrior I've been wondering ... did Kruziik actually tell Cass anything helpful or true about magic ? Just cus I don't see why he would actually teach him anything that would actually aid him.

Also - if what he said was true - I like the soul concept, though that suggests that magic originates from people and not from the world they live in, which is fine but should probably be discussed. Unless magic is everywhere and only some have the clairvoyance to be able to harness it using their soul ? Also, are we truly going the elemental magic route? Is that the limit of magic or was he just stating a part of it ? I'd say there are more areas that sorcerers could specialize in - I had different stuff in mind for Cass. Though, if Kruziik is limiting Cass' idea of magic then I'm down with that cus then he'd be harmfully misleading him into not becoming as powerful as he could be. I mean Kruziik obviously hasn't just specialized in an element. He seems more about dream manipulation and delving into reanimation from what I know.

Honestly, I like how Cass and Kruziik are connected in that way. Cus Cass is already pretty capable in oneiromancy.

Pal, I just started spouting random stuff that sounded cool.

I feel Kruziik's mother wouldn't have taught him about magic's effect on the soul (if that is the route we take). She'd have taught him the Path of the Dark Side essentially, more going with your emotions than exercising self control.

In my head Kruziik is wary of Cassander, because of his oneiromancy (I used a big word!) since Kruziik cannot do that. The prospect that someone might be more powerful than him, even if it takes a while, is both interesting and intimidating to him.

He's spouting random crap because he's trying to stunt the Prince's magical growth, but not outright killing him out of curiosity.

Kruziik is not specialized in an element at all. He caused The Shattering, invades dreams, physically enhances his followers, enchants weapons and, if things go according to plan, turns ordinary "angsty trying to change through the power of love Dan" into demon "ima eat your tasty tasty soul" Dan.

He dabbles.

Whether magic is present in the world itself or in the souls of a select few is something we should discuss, though either way works for me.

Nice! Alright!

Here's my thoughts on the soul/ dark side-light side thing. I am really into the idea of magic being harmful to the user if not used properly. Originally, and I still do want to pursue this in more depth when the moment arises - Cassander is going to continue on a path of self destruction. I have an idea about magic I wanted to put out there - more so about its affect on different people. I was thinking about why only certain people can harness magic, and why others can't. We could go with the idea of magic being an energy force like the Force in star wars basically - that certain individuals can tap into (using their souls?). If we asked the Elves why only certain people are privy to it, they'd say it's because the soul in question has reincarnated enough times to be at a certain level of synchronicity with the universe. The Calcians would say its the Creator favoring certain individuals due to the holy plan and destiny and all that jazz. However, I think attaining a level of ambiguity on that part would be good. It could be for either reason, or none of those reasons, or both at the same time.

What I'm really concerned about is the idea that maybe magic affects people in different ways, or in varying degrees. Maybe some people are more vulnerable or open to magical energy, and without understanding how to wield it, their body (mortal vessel) will begin to wear down because their vessel can't sustain the power they're privy to.

The idea of Dark Side vs. Light Side star wars style in terms of giving in or using one's emotions vs. always exercising restraint and control is good, though it does feel a bit restrictive. I'd say there's a grey area. Emotions can definitely be a strength if understood properly, though that can so easily turn dangerous. While excessive control and restraint turns to repression which is also incredibly unhealthy and volatile. Cass sits much more in favor of the emotion/impulse side of things, and his way of using it so far has been destructive.

I love the idea of Kruziik trying to throw Cass off by spouting whatever random stuff comes to mind lol.
