Fantasy A Nation In Havoc OOC (2.0)

Could someone give me a rundown on what's happened since the beginning and what's going on currently?

Our current party consists of:

Nia: Same as before

Armandio: Duel wielding rogue with a history in Askary and the Presidents daughter

Decius: War hero/slash dishonorably discharged from the Dalanian military for decapitating his leader for cowardice

Raimi: Huntress, woman of the land, she knows it like one knows their mothers face

Ambrose: Grumpy old man who is only in our party because we posed the best chance of survival for him

I actually forget our hobbits name: Engineer of bombs and owner of a unnecessarily large crossbow

Basic timeline:

Everyone was in the city for a festival in honor of a Dalanian hero. Nia made a speech at the tournament, that was quickly followed by Kruziik (who had been court Wizard for a while) made his own speech, stabbed the king in the back with a sword he summoned from nothing, and threw his dead body in front of Nia. Goblins, masquerading as people in cloaks to hide their identities, began stabbing people. The Red Mountain erupted, raining down fiery death in the form of boulders crashing into Dalania. The party gathered in our Hobbit’s bunker in the inn she stayed in.

There we concocted a plan to escape the city, as the Order Of Eternity (Kruziik’s Cult made of people of every race from every place) entered the city and claimed it. They set up guards at the gates, and we needed to get past them.

Ambrose the Old Doctor had some sway with the Order, because he sold Kruziik corpses for reasons he didn’t care to question. Decius the War Hero donned a paper bag to hide his identity and he pulled the cart that the rest of the party hid in. The cart belongs to Raimi, who used it to transport her family’s wares to sell to the city. Her horse was killed, resulting in us using the buffest of our party (Decius) as a horse.

The ruse worked, and we escaped Dalania, set up camp, and read the last two posts because that’s important to know for current events.

Guys, add your own if I missed something.

All of our characters were gathered in the capital city of Dalania for a festival. Before the festivities could start, however, an evil wizard named Kruziik, who was posing as a member of the royal court but was in actuality the leader of a continent-wide cult, killed the king and used various OP magical powers to lay the city to waste with a volcanic eruption, massacre its citizens, and hand it over to an army of goblins. He has since renamed the city and assumed rulership over it in the name of his cult. Members of said cult are even now parading from all across Okigira to take up residence there. We are still currently on the night of the same day that the coup and the massacre occurred in RP time.

The king's daughter, Nia, was able to escape the carnage with the enchanted sword passed down in her family's line. With the help of five other people forced to cooperate for survival--Armandio, Jenny, Raimi, Decius, and Ambrose--she was able to escape the city. The group is currently several miles south of the city making a camp, recovering from the ordeals of the day, and attempting to plan their next moves. One member of the group, an outdoors-woman named Raimi, went out to hunt food and got inadvertently caught up with a nearby group of bandits in an attempt to free their prisoner. She created a diversion to lure most of the bandits away from the prisoner and managed to free him as a result, but she got caught up in a conflict with one of the bandits who saw through her ruse and had to distract that bandit so the prisoner could escape. She told him to run back to camp for safety so the others could protect him.

Most recently, the prisoner she freed has made his way back to the camp where the rest of the group is located and is informing them of her predicament. Their various responses and suggestions for courses of action are incoming. Raimi herself is preparing to fight the bandit that tried to botch her rescue attempt.

There are lots of little details and world-building tidbits that I skipped and each character has their own personal quirks and storylines in various states of development that I also skipped over, but I think that's all the most important stuff in a nutshell as far as the over-arching plot is concerned so far.

Magic Penguin will handle all recaps in the future, because I can’t compete with that.

Appreciate ya.

Also, I really don't know why, but Kruziik showing up during the princess' speech sorta reminds me of the Sonic '06 intro cinematic

*shiver* I swear that game's given me PTSD

Where are we on technology again in the lore of the rp? Aren't landmines a hell of a lot further in time than gunpowder and the first muskets? Unless they're extremely experimental prototypes, but would imagine mechanical knowledge to be needed to create 'em.

Just forget about it.

Land mine - Wikipedia

According to this, explosive landmines were in use at least as early as 1277 in China, possibly even earlier. Muskets are mid-16th century, so if those are okay, landmines should be. That said, I don't know how effective they were compared to what we picture when we talk about landmines today.

Though I'm pretty sure you need gunpowder for them. If Weiss made landmines, that means three people in this world (Jenny, Weiss, and that guy in Kruziik's crew) all stumbled onto gunpowder independently at the same time. Funny coincidence, that.

I had an exothermically detonated charge in my head, a reaction that produced enough force to propel shrapnel - Samuel being the chemistry dude and all.

I would've included that in the post but I thought it would be pretty trivial.

If you genuinely want to keep the lore intact, however, an example of a conveniently large, non-gunpowder, pressure sensitive, easily synthesized explosive that would work quite effectively as a primer would be mercury fulminate.

No no no damnit! Too much too fast too easy! It’ll take more than a few steps to get there. Raimi traveled for an hour and a half before she found the camp, and that bandit that was trapped was closer to the player camp than his own. Don’t immediately find it damnit!

Sorry. I just got the impression that the camp wasn't that far away. I figured that as the bandit lackey was a dumbass and wouldn't catch him if he wondered too far and
He soon found himself at a campfire, surrounded by a strange menagerie of people.
Besides, what else would we be able to post other than "they ran there".

Ah, just thought we'd just time skip on the way over. I shall amend stuff.

The bandit wasn’t supposed to be alone. There was a plan damnit, there wouldn’t be any running to camp. Of course the goon wouldn’t wander far. From his boss! The bandit leader, his loyal massive Orc, and one human lacky we’re going to be there too. Damnit I had a plan.

I probably should’ve told you the plan I suppose. I need to remember this isn’t a game of D&D, it’s multiple people spread across the globe, all doing separate things, with absolutely no plan other than do stuff. Why did I agree to Co-DM this? There’s nothing to DM! I have almost no control here! I can’t interject and say “as you walk in the direction specified by the boy, you see a Half Orc, a Giant Orc and a human standing over the wriggling body of a human” over posts! Damnit!

Damnit this is going to be tedious. I can feel it already.

I guess I wandered into this late, because all the posts have been edited already. I'm guessing the controversy here is that you guys skipped ahead to the part where you get to the bandit camp and find Raimi, is that right? Problem is, I actually already have a post written detailing her fight with the elf and it doesn't involve anyone reaching the camp to help her. It was originally part of my last post, but the whole thing was way too long, so I split it in two and floated the idea of having a couple fight scenes for everyone by CountryWarrior.

Besides the immobilized lackey that Decius just decapitated, there are two other lackies, the bandit boss, and his loyal giant orc henchman scouting around in the forest looking for their escaped prisoner. I intended to drop my fight post when those four confronted you guys, so all the fight posts would be happening in close-ish proximity.

Besides that, you should keep in mind the mage that Raimi knocked out was unconscious, not dead. She won't wake up right away, but she will eventually, and when she does, she'll be pissed. She's an earth mage, I'm told, but I know little of her capabilities beyond that. I'm thinking she can make her appearance at our camp to pick a fight with Nia, Jenny, Ambrose, and our new mage friend after the party in the forest is reunited with Raimi. They will be too far to help them right away, so the camp guard party will have to deal with the mage on their own. Everyone should get to have some fun action scenes to write.

This was the gist of the original idea, anyway, all centered around the purpose of getting the members of our party into some dynamic, challenging, potentially lengthier fights, which we really haven't had to do yet since we've mostly been sneaking in and out of places or fighting mindless grunts who fall over dead by the dozen in one axe swing/cleverly placed explosion/enchanted sword thrust. What do you guys think?

I mean, if this camp was say half an hour away, it would have been an hour for the boy to get to the camp, and the group to return to find raime, so surely she would have already finished fighting this elf, and the wolf situation would have already been dealt with. The camp would need to be close for any of it to make sense.

I imagined it was about a half hour away, yes, if you went straight from one camp to the other. It took her a while to get there because she was not moving in a straight line the entire time, but rather tracking rabbits. She also was not necessarily moving very quickly while hunting. Plus, she doubled back at least once when she was tracking and also took a more circuitous route back to the camp when she heard the wolves in an attempt to lose them. So, even if it is a half hour away, she was gone for considerably longer, like two hours, before she found the bandits by accident.

My intent is to have it so the fight in my next post is happening concurrently with the boy running back to camp and the others fighting the bandits in the woods. So, an hour or more can pass between Rae's fight starting and the others finding her later and it should still make chronological sense.
