Perhaps the festival celebrates the founding of Dalania? Or the rise of the Davions to power? Could also be something like the Olympics, in that it only happens once every few years or so.

You might think about what kinds of things the people do to celebrate this festival. Maybe there's a jousting tourney or a melee where the royal knights try and win honor and glory and the favor of the royal family or something. Or maybe there's a parade where the royals simply ride through the streets and greet the commoners.

It all depends on what kind of thing we want to celebrate and how we want to celebrate it really.
Some things the festival could celebrate:
An idea that

came up with was the jousting tourney/melee or something. I think we could expand this so that the entire event is because of this tourney. Say a huge tournament is going to be hosted in Dalania, with people coming from all across the world to compete. And this tournament could be about more than one thing. How about we have all the participants do certain things like archery, jousting, throwing things, carrying things, sprints and etc. like the olympic games but much deadlier, to win points. And after a while, the 8 people with the highest points get to stay in the tournament. And the top 8 people have to participate in a melee fight where they are matched up against each other in a tournament fashion, knocking each other out of the competition. I don't know how much death the tournament should have, that is up to you to decide but I feel like at the very least, the victor should be given the option to kill or something, kinda like in a colloseum. The Winner is then given a title, 75 Platinum gold and an invitation to the royal feast. The Runner-up, if spared, is given 25 gold and also an invitation to the royal feast. Now I think that after the tournament, there should be a giant feast hosted by the king and the queen where all the characters who are important/ did well in the tournament/ got lucky in a lottery/ whatever other way you can think of for them to be invited, could meet, eat and generally hang out and have fun. We could even let the winner/runner-up bring a person or two with them. We could easily shuffle the format of the tournament any way around, I am just throwing this idea out there to see if its something you guys might be interested in.

- An anniversary of an alliance with another nation that both nations do. Maybe with the Calcian Empire or something.
- A celebration of a recent victory in war.
- A national holiday of the time when the many lords that owned lands in the territory which is now the Kingdom of Dalania came together to stop the Askary powers from invading. We could try to come up with a name for it.
- A Christmas like thing. Maybe a celebration that celebrates the coming of a certain season.
- We could celebrate a holiday dedicated to something. E.g. hardwork, culture, art, love, dank memes.
- Some sort of event that could be used to welcome some sort of guests from a different country

That seems like an awful lot of killing. Maybe we could just have people yield or be ruled out by a ref or something. Maybe we don't want a huge bloodbath just yet.
I mean like, the whole tournament is like the olympics. The killing and etc. only happens in the top 8 with their melees. And its only optional as it depends on the people competing. But fair point.

Maybe we could just do the tourney/joust/archery comp/melee/cooking contest and leave out the bloody aspect of it. I'm not sure how well that fits with dalania being an easygoing place with a docile populace and well-liked royals. Maybe we want to keep it a more lighthearted affair.
Yeah, we could just remove the killing aspect from it, leading to a person having to yield or be knocked out of a certain sectioned part of the arena area to lose or something. I think that the scale of the tournament should remain big for it to be the main focus of the day.

You can easily have a gladiator fight without death. Use only swords and heavy armor and no stabbing. First one to fall on the ground loses.
I think the idea of a diverse fair sounds cool. Give everyone a reason to go. Hell, doesn't have to be all activities, could be also a time for sellers to come from all over the place and sell their more exotic goods.
