Fandom A Chance Meeting at Ilex Forest

And then he takes off, surprisingly fast for such a little guy. "You can't catch me!" He says with a laugh.

She sprang after him "Oh yeah?" she yelled after him. She giggled and ran with all the strength in her small legs.

He dives around bushes and through the water, always staying just a bit ahead. There's no way to keep up -- and then Balaa's advice seems to echo in Danielle's head.

"The battle is for the mind, not the body."

Meanwhile, Simon keeps just ahead, laughing as he goes.

She smirked. I can do that!! Her eyes glowed blue. "You should probably run slower." She projected her thoughts, finding no harm in it.

Sure enough, the Pichu slows his pace. He doesn't seem to notice that he's slowing down until he looks over his shoulder and sees you've gained on him. Naturally this startles him, but he doesn't speed up. He doesn't even seem to notice anything changed, other than you beginning to catch up.

"Oh, you're fast!" he cries, straining to stay ahead even as his body continues to slow down.

She smiles It worked!! she thought triumphantly, as she skipped towards him noticing that she was catching up to him. And he doesn't notice either! she noticed. She ran faster hoping to ctahc up with her friend.

Nothing he does is enough, and a few moments later you've tacked him to the ground, standing over him with a proud grin. He looks up sheepish.

"I guess I'm not as fast as I thought. Nice work, Danielle! I'll never be able to catch you, though."

He rolls over and takes a few deep breaths.

"Whew. I thought I was quicker..."

She giggled knowingly, deciding to keep it a secret for no other reason than keeping a secret. "You never know until you try!" she said tauntingly before running away. laughing, though definitely feeling fatigued.

He gets up slowly, then starts after Danielle, but the hypnosis prevents him from running his full speed. After about five minutes, he collapses, exhausted.

"I give," he manages breathlessly.

She collapses as soon as he says it completely out of breath. She was about to give up but was more than happy he did first. "That....was fun!"

"It was fun!" he agrees, though he's pretty tuckered out as he says it. "You are...very good at these! May--maybe we should stop playing for a while, though."

He gasps a couple of times before taking a very deep breath.

"Yea... Im not sure I could run another inch." she said gasping for air. "Wait, wheres the river?" she asked noticing they had run a long way she had lost her sense of direction. Tunnel vision started to settle in. "Wher's the river? If we're not at the river can Mommy find us?" Her panic seeming to rise out of nowhere.

"Hey, hey, it's okay," says Simon quickly. "The river's that way, we didn't even go that far. It's okay."

He points the way. "C'mon. We'll walk there. Besides, I'm sure your mother won't lose us. She's got a really good nose, right?"

Her hyperventilating calmed, and her heart slowed, though she was still scared. "Yeah.. she'll find us anyway" she said sounding like she was trying to convince herself more than agreeing. She walked behind her friend, keeping close to him nearly touching him.

Her breathing stabilizes and her heart returns to a normal pattern. She still sticks close to her friend "I...I'm sorry." She said a tear falling down her cheek from earlier.

"It's okay," he says concernedly. "Has...has she left you behind before or something? I just don't...don't understand why you're so scared..."

He offers a paw, trying to help.

She slowly nuzzles his paw "I....I don't know, it's just... I get so scared I..." her breaths were uneven as if trying not to cry. "I don't want.. to be alone." She said.

"You're not alone," he replies. "I'm here!"

A few moments later a familiar face pushes through the foliage.

"Did you two have fun?"

His comment finally tamed her. "Thanks" she said nuzzling up to him, her tears finished. Seeing her mom brightened her mood even more. "Mommy! We had so much fun!" she said forgetting about the fear she felt, but not about what Simon said.

"Anytime," he replies before enthusiastically hopping on his feet to greet the Ninetales.

"I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves. Ready to go home?" she asks with a smile.

"Yeah" she said, though she pondered something. "But where will Simon go?" I hope he can stay with us.....

She squealed in delight "Do you want to come home with us Simon?" She asked part of her wanting to make him want it, but deciding against it.

"Yes, that would be very nice," he says with a bashful grin.

"Then in that case, climb aboard. We have a moonlit walk ahead of us," says the Ninetales with a smile.
