Realistic or Modern 6 Feet Under

Isabella ducked into Mari's garage quickly before anyone else could see her. The last thing she wanted was to be harassed yet again. "Hey doll. Can you believe what just happened?" Isabella sighed as she sat down on a beanbag chair in the garage turned lounge. Mari poured a drink for her friend and then sat down next to her.

"Lay it on me babe." Mari replied as she took a sip of her own drink.

After an exaggerated story Isabeella finally took a sip of her drink, "By the way, were invited to Vanessa's house later."

Jade gently glided her hand across the closest building, guiding herself since she was blind. She hoped someone would help. But that probably wouldnt come. 'Oh well, I could care less' Jade thinks to herself. She reaches an intersection and trips on the curb. 'Well, I feel like an idiot. Hopefully no one saw that.' she thinks to herself, getting up and brushing herself off. Finding out she also happened to fall in a puddle. 'Well, now I am a soaked idiot.'

"That may be so but I can't leave you out here on the side walk." She said as she tried to carefully as she use her black scarf to wipe away the blood from his face and wounds. "Where's your place?" She asked hoping it was close by.

"Not far. Just a few blocks away." He groaned. Standing up shakily on his feet, using the wall for support. "I'll be fine. I can make it on my own..." The last thing he wanted was for her to see his sad, rundown little apartment near the slums.

Vivian wasn't going to let John know she already knew what his house looked like, at least what you'd see as she drove pass with her father. " You're hurt and most definitely concussed." She said as she flashed her phone flashlight into his eyes and noticed them hardly dilate at all, then looked again at the wounds on his head. "Please you need a doctor. At least let me walk you home and clean you up." She said feeling terrible knowing it was her fathers men who did this and could easily do a lot worse.

He desperately wanted to protest more, but he could hardly stand on his own. As much as he didn't want her to see where he lived, he wasn't even going to dare risk staying out on the streets like this all night. "F...fine...I guess I do need a little help..."

"Alright." She said glad he accepted. She grabbed his arm and put it around her shoulders and her other arm under his. She then used her other arms to grab her groceries and began helping him walk home. "Sooo can I ask how much you owe?" She asked not actually knowing the exact amount.

"Thank you..." He groaned. Putting as much weight on his own two legs as he could. "You really want to know?" He let out a heavy sigh. "1.7 Mil...." He mumbled it quickly, hoping it would sound like less somehow.

Jade started to walk again, she heard two people talking, they sounded young like her. They were talking about how one 'Owed money' whatever they were talking about. and the voice that sounded like it belonged to a boy sounded tired. The other sounded worried, she decided to walk up to them, hoping they were people she could find directions or, if they were nice enought, a place to stay, so she approached the voices and said "uhh. Hi. Do you know where the closest hotel is? I don't really know, so if you could give me directions according to left and right turns, I would be greatful." Jade said, with no emotion on her face.

Vanessa's eyes widened at the amount Johnathan said. How could someone rack up such a total and they not just kill the poor bastard right off? "Umm...how are you not dead yet?" She asked looking at him in surprise. It was then she looked up and noticed the strange girl with no emotions. What kind of person doesn't notice the beaten and bloodied man they're talking to?! Vanessa thought to herself but didn't bother saying her thoughts out loud this girl only seemed interested in directions so Vanessa gave her some. "Continue down the sidewalk the next couple blocks then take a right and continue till you come up to the super eight, there's the closest one I know of at the moment. " she said fixing her hold on John and continued walking.

"Because the debt was my dad's and after what he pulled against the head honcho they want it all paid back..." He explained. "A little begging for my life didn't hurt either...I must have hit some sympathy when I begged to let me pay it off." He coughed and pain shot through his chest. Definitely a few broken ribs. Wiping mored blood away from his face he looked up at the strange girl. "Y-yeah...what she said..ya can't miss it..."

Vanessa couldn't help but worry for her friend as she saw the pain in his face as he coughed. "John you need a doctor..." She said as she walked knowing his condition was beyond her help. But with his current dept he really couldn't afford it and probably didn't have any insurence either.

"I'll go see one in the morning if I don't feel any better...but pain meds and sleep should be just fine for now.." His heart raced at the thought of wracking up a hospital bill on top of everything else. "It's worked before and I've been just fine! Healed perfectly..."

Vanessa looked at him disbelievingly just as they reached where he lived. "Careful." She muttered helping him up the stairs leading up to the building. "Which one is yours?" She asked noticing the smell of mildew and tattered wall paper.

"The one on the end." He groaned as he dug through his pockets for his keys. Handing them to her shakily as soon as he found them. "With the crappiest looking door..."

After about an hour of venting to Mari, Isabella grabbed her phone and shot her cousin a quick text,

hey what time should we

come over?

"So are you ever going to tell your parents that you're not actually a lesbian so I can go find a real girlfriend?" Mari teased, somewhat serious. It definitely was lonely not actually being in a romantic relationship.

Isabella tapped her chin thoughtfully,

"I might be a little curious.." Isabella replied as she leaned in towards Mari.

Vanessa chuckled thinking it a joke but taking his keys and walking over there she realized it wasn't. She didn't say anything as she looked at the door and opened it to a small dim apartment. This immediately made her glad to be getting him that job. "Here lay down, but don't go to sleep." she said clearing off the blankets from his couch. "You have a bad concussion and if you go to sleep you could end up dying or falling into a comma." She warned him then went off to go make him some coffee. It was then that her phone sounded. Reading the text she sighed remembering her promise to her cousin.

-Don't no, Johnathan was attacked. I'm now at his place making sure he lives.

:(

She texted back looking to where she laid down John then looking about the small kitchen for coffe.

"Don't worry...I know..." He sighed as he sank down into the musty old sofa. The springs dug into his back, but at this point it was most likely a good thing. He was nodding off and they were keeping him awake. "Coffee should be in the counter above the coffee pot."

"Kay.." Vanessa said grabbing the coffe and making him a large pot full. She looked over and saw a half open medicine cabinet with all sorts of pills and bandages falling out. She went over to it, grabbing up a box of assorted band-aids, a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, cheap paper towels and neosporin. Then went back over to Johnathan carefully sitting beside him and readying her supplies. "You mind if I clean you up?" She asked speaking gently knowing he was hurting she handed him two Advil and a cup of coffee.

An old woman came shuffling to the door as soon as she heard the knock. "Excuse me little Miss, but this is an apartment complex you know...you don't need to knock." Her voice was rough from old age, but sweet. The girl seemed to be a little lost and that was not a good thing in these parts. "Or are you looking for someone?"

@I am Shadow

"Not at all...." He groaned and quickly downed the Advil and a few sips of coffee. Mmm, made just right, that definitely made him feel a slight bit better. "I don't think I could do it myself even if I tried....they really gave me a good beating..."

John walked out of his father's room after having a conversation, John then pulled out his phoned and then scrolled through his contacts and then finally found the contact named "Vanessa". John then pressed on the contact and selected the send message option, he then wrote a message saying "Where are you, father is looking for you." he then glanced over at the message and then pressed send as he began walking out of the house and then getting inside his car, he then turned the car on and drove off to a night club the family owned. "That they did..." Vanessa muttered as she started gently wiping up the blood from around Johnathan's face. "Sorry if it hurts." She said as she saw the peroxide foaming up in his cuts.

"It's alright....I've been in far worse pain than before." He winced. "And like I said....at least they went easy on me this time around...shouldn't be any scars. The ribs will take a while to heal, but that's not too terrible."

Vanessa nodded as she put neosporin and a band-aid on the gash on his forehead. It was then that her phone sounded, she looked down at who it was from and didn't even bother reading it. She turned her phone off throwing it into her purse not wanting to have to deal with her brother now. She knew he reported directly to the big man and if their father knew she was with Johnathan meant he was lucky if he lived another hour.

"We should be able to get Isabella to cover up your wounds. Don't want you going to work on your first day looking like you were mugged, and she's pretty good with makeup." She said working on cleaning the wounds on his arms and bandaging them.
