Realistic or Modern 6 Feet Under

"Well hello stranger." Vanessa said happily, glad to see him in such a good mood and definitely healthier looking. "So have you thought about what you want to be when you grow up?" She asked jokingly as she opened the file and slid the degrees over to him to let him pick one.

"Helloooo." He greeted in a peppy tone. "I've put a little thought into that and I think I wanna be a CEO. The easiest of jobs and somewhere nooobody will get too suspicious for me being bad at the job." He chuckled.

She smiled and started pulling out the papers needed. "Alrighty, fill these out and sign here." She instructed they were just pieces of paper with little questions or direction on here like: SIGN HERE:____ FAVORITE COLOR:____ FIRST PET:____ INITIAL:____ and so on.

"You got it." He chuckled and began filling it out. Johnathan Loire. Green. Cat. J. Odd questions for a job form, but oh well. Best not question it now.

"Thank you." she said taking it from him and handing to him his new backstory. "Memorize that so if anyone at your new job asks that's you're story, don't talk about your job before or your debt, and try not to mention your family or even me, though I doubt you'd ever mention me to anyone anyways." Vanessa said knowing she hadn't mentioned him to anyone, and she couldn't. Not unless she wanted him dead.

"Okay, I think I got it. I don't care enough about my old job to mention it, my debt...no way I'm telling anyone else about that, family should be no issue...easy not to mention it when they're dead to you... The hardest thing will be not to mention you. You're the nicest person to come into my life in a long time." He smiled up at her. "But, I suppose for the sake of how important this is I can keep my mouth shut."

(Oops sorry)

A pink blush colored Vivian's cheeks when he said that. "Thank you. I'm glad to have at least one person in this world I can trust." She said and then taking a drink from her iced coffee. "So is there any other reason you chose secretary?" She asked leaning back slightly in her seat.

He chuckled and leaned back in his chair. "Not really...It seemed like the easiest job. File some papers, run some errands type some documents up. I can do that and avoid any suspicion easily."

"Aww, so having the pretty secretary bent over your desk wasn't your main reason?" She chuckled teasingly as she crossed her legs and shifted through the papers.

"Well it certainly was tempting." He replied in a joking tone. "Buuuuut one night stands aren't my thing, at least, not anymore." An embarrassed little chuckle escaped.

"Really?" Vanessa asked as she laid out background papers that were written like a MadLibs pamphlet. "So what is you're thing now?" She ask neatly filling it out with the answers from his questionnaire.

"At the moment it's being single and tired as Hell...." He yawned. "But in all seriousness. Something more stable....I'm pretty sure I don't really have to explain the reasoning behind that one for you." He smiled.

"No, I got it." Vanessa said with a soft smile as she had finished filling out the forms. "How many full suits do you have?" She asked him as she realized that just cause he had the papers didn't mean he had the job yet. He would still need to look the part. "And I mean expensive ones not prom rental ones." She clarified.

"I actually have a few. And they are definitely not prom rental ones." He leaned forward on the table. "They're a little ill fitting because they were my dad's, but they should still work and are pretty top of the line."

Vanessa smiled approvingly. "Well if need be we can get them tailored to fit you better." She said knowingly. She knew about his father and about the debt his father had owned her family that Johnathan then got stuck with, but she wanted to her about his father from him. "If you don't mind me asking, could you tell me about your father? What's he like?"

"That would probably be a good idea. It wouldn't exactly look the best for me to walk in with a fine suit that was a little too big." He chuckled. Whatever smile he had instantly faded and was replaced by a more bitter expression. "He didn't even bother using my name or even son on the 'explination' letter he left me..." He sighed. It was apparent that it was a difficult subject for him still. "I remember him being nice, but hardly there when I was real young....then when my mother was dying he was hardly there at all. Left me to take care of myself most of the time...he cares more about himself and money than he ever did me or my mother....Lord knows where he is now, but I hope I never see him again..."

"Oh...I'm sorry to hear that..." Vanessa said regretting asking him. His story reminded herself of her father, she remembered her father had been nice when her mother was alive but stopped and became cruel and controlling after she was gone. though in her case she still had to see her father every other day. She reached her hand across the table and comfortingly patted his hand. "It'll all be alright." She said not really knowing what else to say.

"Yeah.... I've gotten this far without him. I'm sure as soon as I get rid of the debt he left on me things will turn around....that could be a long time though." He sighed heavily and managed a weak smile. He owed a LOT. Not just a few grand, but almost two million. He had no idea what his father had done to wrack that up, but it was insane.

The wind whipped her ponytail around as she walked down the street, pulling her pea coat around her almost as if she were hugging herself. A warm smell of scones and freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air and Isabella's stomach grumbled. The cafe was only about half a block down the street. She kept walking, her boots making a click-clack on the cement under her. As she arrived at the cafe, an elderly woman exited and Isabella held the door open before making her way inside.

She looked around, at first not noticing her cousin Vanessa. Isabella proceeded to order a large dark roast. As she waited for her coffee she spotted her cousin, sitting with an unfamiliar looking guy. She stepped away from the counted and pulled up a chair to their table.

"Hey V, what're you doing here?" She asked curiously with a warm smile.

"Well, at least it will be a lot sooner with your new job." Vanessa said to Johnathan as she glanced over and recognized her cousin walk in. Hurriedly she hid away his papers back into their folder and put it into her purse just as Isabella made her order. She flinched slightly when her cousin called her V, she hated nicknames.

"Im just enjoying coffee with a friend." She said nodding over to Johnathan. "Isabella, Johnathan. Johnathan, Isabella." She said as she introduced them. She then looked around to see if any of her father's minions followed Isabella. "What are you doing here?" She asked in return.

Tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear she nodded in acknowledgement of Johnathan. "Hey nice to meet you." She smiled warmly. Isabella noticed her cousin scoping out the room, probably looking for the goons that usually followed. "I needed to get out of the house. Dad is being a total jerk and trying to ground me even though I'm an adult. You know how it is." She responded, shaking her head in irritation.

Her mother didn't baby her as much as her father did, but his was more of a really-tough-love sort of thing.

"I sure hope so, but it's still going to take a long time." He chuckled again and scratched the back of his head. He jumped a bit when Vanessa's cousin made a sudden appearance. Couldn't blame him when he got a shake down regularly by the top dog's goons.

"Oh! Hello. Nice to meet you too." He Smiled sweetly and nodded.

Vanessa nodded at what Isabella said, and drank a few sips of her coffee. "So what were your plans for the rest of the day?" She asked the both of them as she pulled out her flask from her coat and mixed some of it's contents into her coffee. Then offered some to Johnathan with one hand as the other stirred her coffee.

"Isabella?" the barista called, she momentarily excused herself to go get her coffee. Shortly after she sat back down with Vanessa and Jonathan. She grabbed a packet of sugar and stirred it into her drink.

"I was actually going to the opening of a club that my friend is hosting. You're welcome to join me if you're not doing anything." Isabella replied. The offer was extended to both of the people she sat with.

She eyed the flask that Vanessa had pulled out, she was half tempted to ask, but she was a minor. Taking a sip of coffee she stared out the window. Wondering what she was going to wear for the night.

"Sleep and taking it easy..." Johnathan replied in a quite tired tone. Taking the flask from Vanessa and mixing it in to his own drink before returning it to her. "This is my first day off in a few months so I'm going to enjoy it as much as I can before straight back to work..." Whatever he'd added to his drink had added a little burn to his coffee. It was nice and woke him up a tad more as he sat there with them.
