1x1 with Beowulf

The young Princess of Algoria sat in the castle library. She spent quite a bit of time there and was currently reading a book about the history of the Kingdom of the Prince she was going to marry. Aria was not looking forward to this marriage at all. She would be meeting the Prince she was to marry today and was in her best attire. Her long black hair was in a waterfall braid and her crown sat neatly on her head.

She was bored out of her mind and did not like this. She was not wanting to marry some Prince she didn't even know! Aria had complained about this to her parents but all they said was it was for the good of the People, and she had no choice.

((Hope this is okay @Beowulf ))

Connor was on his way to the Algorian palace. Of course he had to go there, and she didn't have to go to his kingdom. Manners were manners, but this was ridiculous. They were many miles between the two places, and it was a long journey. But he was going to get there today, so he was wearing his best. Crown and everything.

((at a blank on tye kingdom jame and how he should look. Never good at those.))

Ariana sighed as she looked up at her aide, who was just telling her that she was to wait in the drawing room to meet with him. Sighing, she stood up and left the library, walking into the Drawing Room with another sigh. She sat herself at the table, and waited.

((That's alright))

((I'll just base it off of a book I read. From the Wheel of time series, all rights given to their proper owners. No plagerism here.))

Connor, the prince of Malkier, the land of a thousand lakes, had arrived. He was ushered into the entrance, ha'dori wrapped around his head, a braided leather cord in fine condition, and long-ish hair combed nicely into place. Silver crown, a simple thing designed to look like an eagle in flight, rested above his ha'dori, careful to not cover it. He also had a sword at his waste, which he handled with ease, in a simple boar hide sheath. If he were to draw the sword, you would see a heron engraved on both sides. He was wearing a coat with a white shirt underneath, and some blue pants as well to match (looks and kingdom, all done). But he wasn't supposed to be there, he was instead supposed to be in the library, to meet his future wife. Fantastic, she was already hiding from him. Well, that was fine. If they didn't see each other, all they had to do was produce an heir and then head their seperate ways without being divorced. He's heard that has happaned in the past, with other lords and kingdoms. If it worked for them, why couldn't it work for him?

((Oh, and about what time period is it? Horse and carrige? Or cars, or something else completely?))

((What's a ha'dori? And it's more of horse and carriage time))

Ariana looked up as she heard the large oak library doors open. The young Princess stood and looked to the doors. Straightening her posture and fixing a few stray hairs, she took as deep a breath as she could with the corset. She wasn't really looking forward to meeting this Prince, but then, she wasn't happy about any of this.

((In tge books, a hadori, as it is properly spelled, is a braided leather cord given to the sons of Malkier. Basically, it means that they are now adults. I want to say more, but them I'll never shut up.))

"Hello." Connor said. What else was ge supposed to say? Everything else would just sound out of place. "My name is Connor, as you probably already know." he continued, saying his name just in case she either didn't know or forgot. He had her name drilled and branded into his skull by his parents, Ariana.... Crap, what was her last name again?

((Alright))

"Hello, My Lord."She said as she bowed her head and curtsied before looking up at him."And I am Ariana Jacobs. Though I'm sure you know that already."She said as she looked up at him. He stood a bit taller then her. She wasn't short, but wasn't really tall either."Would you like to sit?"She offered, motioning to the chairs at the library table.

"Of course." he said, both to her and himself. Jacobs, that's it. How could he have forgotten such a common name like that. Walking over to one of the seats, oak like the doors, he kicked his legs out in fron of him to stretch. "It was quiet the trip over here, My Lady. But, at least I saw the sights while I travaled. You have a very interesting kingdom."

Only after he Connor sat down, did she."Yes. Algoria is known for our scenery and forestry."She said as she closed the book she had been reading about Connor's kingdom, Malkier. She now rested her hand on the book, part of it covering the title, not that she was trying though.

((Thanks for the follow by the way! :) ))

"And what beautiful forests they are." he said. It never hurt to compliment a future wife, just in case. "And what are you reading there?" he asked before tilting his head slightly to get the word the right way round. He made out a M and ier, but that was it. He could make a guess from their. "Malkier? Well, I grew up there. What kind of questions do you have for me about it?"

"Oh I was just reading up om the History of Malkier and their ties to Algoria. I don't really have any questions."She said as she took her hand off the book."I prefer to do research versus asking questions. The information in books, are much more concrete then stories. No offense though."She said as she looked at him.

"I know about my country." he muttered to himself. What did that book know that he didn't? Did it know that his kingdom has stood proudly against the barbarians that are constantly flowing across their boarder? Well, probably, but that wasn't the point. That book was no doubt written by some scholar reading from another book. "Well, I do not have a book with me. So please, tell me a bit about Algoria."

"Well what do you wish to know about my Kingdom?"She asked softly as she looked at him. She had not meant to offend anyone. It wss simply what her teachers taught her. Books are more reliable then people unless it was the person who wrote the book. Why, it was not explained to her.

"Let me see." he said as he put on a mock thinking expression. "Lineage, trade imports and exports, military strength, competence of your generals. Everything. Do not be stingy with the details, nothing is un-important when it comes to countries." he said quickly. He did like learning about things, though he may seem rude while he learns. Mysteries, he did not like.

"Hmm......I don't know a lot about the trade. Our military though is quite strong. They train almost nonstop and they practice their techniques frequently on our hired assassins. Not that we use the assassins much as far as I know."She said aa she looked at him.

"Nonsense." Connor said. "If you hire them, use them. Otherwise, they are little more then a hole that you shovel gold into." he told her matter of factly. "And any good ruler must know how their economy flows." he continued. He was told that the economy was much like the forms in swordsmanship. Flowing smoothly together creating almost a dance. A deadly one, one that can bring a country to it's knees.

"Well they may be used and father doesn't tell me. He doesn't believe I need to know all about the trade yet. I know some. I know that we trade with the kingdoms neighboring us and some over seas. I'm not the ruler yet so I don't know a lot. Plus, I really haven't been interested in the trade."She said softly."So I haven't made much effort to learn it."

"I hate to say this, princess, but we have to learn everything. There are people relying on us to make decisions. And we cannot simply choose not to learn something because it is not interesting to you." he said. All he wanted to do, was practice the forms. It was calming to practice the sword by himself, being one with the blade and the rest of the world. But, as his father put it, he had duties to the people of his nation. So, he dragged him to those lessons in proper manners and how foreign countries were ruled. And the worst part was the dull drone of his elderly teacher.

"Pary of it was that my father dod not encourage me to learn of our trades, until a few years ago."She said as she looked at him."That's all I know of our trade. Now, as far as I know, our Generals are very competent. We have not had a breach for many many years. They are the best of the best available in Algoria."She said as she looked at him.

"I can imagine. The barbarians have nit reached down here in years. All thanks to your generals." he said sarcastically. His generals saw battles in the morning, and went to sleep knowing that there would be another the next day. His land knew little more then war because of the barbarian hoardes. Compared to what his generals and soldiers had to deal with, so he thought any way, every other nation was just a pale shadow. "I'm sure they stay in practice." he continued, adding that extra barb. From what he saw, Algoria was not at war. But then again, he could always ge wrong.

"Hey, our Generals do fight. Often because of those who come out of the woods surrounding our kingdom. They don't just sit around."She said as she looked at him, crossing her arms over her chest."We don't just sit and have tea."He had obviously hit a nerve in the Princess.

"Oh, I'm sorry. You're right, tyere are always bandits in the woods." he blundered on. Never make a woman mad, so said his father, and uncles, and older brothers, and just about every guy he ever met. They also said many more things about women, like how trying to figure them out was like walking a briar maze in the dark. But that advice was lost to him at this point.

"They were not bandits. We have had full scale attacks on Algoria from the woods Connor."She said a bit miffed as she looked at him. Her tone almost lethal as she narrowed her eyes."We do not have perfect peace Connor. At all."She said with a slight growl as she looked at him.

"And we have never known peace." he growled back. Ever since the founding, Malkier had been forced to fight. It was either that, or be put to the torch and burn. Peace is wanted so badly, it is used as a blessing by some. "Peace favor your sword." is an example of this. His opinion of this girl, that was how he was seeing her, was quickly becoming negative. She didn't know her nations trading, and thought her generals were the best. Next thing you'd know, she'd claim their light calvalry was the envy of every nation.

((Last post fkr tge night. Guten nacht as the germans say.))
