I like most genres! I think the only exception really is horror, and sometimes mystery (mystery roleplays are hard). For the most part I like a lot of collaborative worldbuilding, no matter the plot at hand. Creating the world is the best part!

The characters would all be pretty close, too, or at least recognize eachother, living in the same camps. Adds an interesting dynamic. & Totes with the gaining immunity thing. They could use antibiotics as a sort of vaccine maybe.
