The harry potter part is only because it involves magic, wizards and mythology in a modern setting. It's completely different setting-wise.
Also a dash of X-Files for good measure, because conspiracies are always fun.

Distill them down to their best traits and combine them. Do this with all your characters until you're only left with 2/3 bundles of awesome
Also, never build more than two or three core characters, just remake your old ones. That way you'll always be able to play your favorites.
The trick I've found with PBP games is to join as many games as possible, that way when some eventually die off, you'll always have one left

I should have died about an hour after I was born (heart issues) or an hour after I was knocked out with a gaping headwound in the winter.
I can get quality control, but it seems a template would fix that issue and save the staff time and energy.
