Fandom Zootopia: Inter Schminter

Leah tapped on the register a few times, before replying, "It'll be 2.25... and who knows? Impress me, and maybe there could be something special for ya..."

Ollie, in the mean time, carried the Rabbit-Small Coffee over to the corner, and gently set it in front of Ruby. Deciding to respect their space, he bowed his head respectfully to Al and returned behind the counter, where he looked up at Leah.

"Leah, ya ain't flirtin' for tips again, are ya?" he asked, deadpanning.

She quickly straightened her posture and gulped, smiling nervously at the otter. "N-no, sir! Just ringing 'em up!"

Meanwhile, Ruby sighed and placed her elbows on the table, taking a small sip of the coffee. Al simply sat there and rested a single elbow on it, while his other arm was folded onto it, and his gloved finger tapping idly on it, thoughtfully.

"Mind tellin' me why I can't just settle with an Elephant Large?" she asked him, before opening the lid to add a little sugar and powdered creamer into it from the table.

Al shrugged his shoulders before signing, "~You know you couldn't even drink an inch's worth of that, even if it were just water!~"

"Yeah, but..." she cupped her paws over her mouth and whispered, "I... erm... we... just saw a dead body in our house! I feel like the police are going to be asking us a lot of questions, so we'll need to be as energized as possible, if we are to help them figure out what happened!"

He sighed, and shook his head. "~As much as I want to agree with you, it's getting late anyways. If you drank too much of it, you'd be awake all night!~"

She deadpanned at him, however. "Like I'd be able to sleep anyways?! I'm probably gonna have nightmares of this for... idunno... years!"

Al was about to reply, when he looked around, seeing if anyone else was about to sit close by. If they were, they'd likely have to hold off for a few more moments... at least find a way to buy time until Judy and Nick were done with their current case.

Ulick, the red fox, continued to stare at the leopard. She wasn't that bad looking, and if she were legal than she would only be two, maybe three years younger than him. Though, if that were an offer she extended to everyone and if a lot of people accepted, it wasn't an offer he was interested in. Though, he did hand her a tip, knowing of how it feels to be in a bad spot, he smiled and extended the original price, and then a one hundred dollar bill. "For your troubles." and without another word, he turned around and walked to a vacant table and sat in a chair, awaiting his order while he roamed through some online police files so he could be aware of anyone or anything that posed a threat to his sister, as well as himself.

Leah gasps, before accepting the hundred-dollar tip.

"Oh my... t-thank you, sir!" she whispered as he left her there.

Al, noticing the fox relatively close to them, decides to lean back and relax on his seat, casually. Ruby, however, notices the fox's monitor, and almost immediately recognizes the ZPD's logo on the top of his tablet's screen.

"Hmm... a fox with Police Files?" she thinks to herself, rubbing her chin curiously. "But he can't be Nick, though... he's supposed to be with Judy at this time, and Clawhauser can confirm that they're both still together. Could there be another Fox in the ZPD that I wasn't informed about? That's a bit too big of news for her to just let slip by..."

She then decided that, maybe, she should get his attention. If not to check his occupation, then at least to break the unnerving silence of the place.

"Umm... excuse me, sir?" she asked, waving his way. "You wouldn't happen to work for the ZPD, would you?"

He looked up from his screen and raised a brow, at the female rabbit that sat next to a much larger, masked individual. "No, I'm not. Why do ya' ask?"
As he spoke, his fingers were moving with a rather swift slight of hand to get to a public domain of the ZPD website, which, he then landed on the "Inmate and Escaped" page.

(Sorry for such short posts, I haven't really anything to work off of besides casualties)

(( Eh, it's fine. ^_^ ))

"Oh... eh, no big reason. I was mostly just waiting for my cousin to arrive... she works for them. They were gonna investigate a... well, an individual that might've been found just recently in my home..."

She looks a little disturbed at the last half of her sentence, and her unease can be seen clearly as she scratches the back of her neck, now finding hers and her friend's table to be very interesting to look at.

Listening quietly to the rabbit as she spoke about the invasion they had, by the look of it, just experianced. His interest grew.
Turning to the masked figure he with a glance of curiosity. "Well, you asked something about me. So please, humor me." his eyes then returned to the Rabbit. "What's your stories."
He had nothing else to do, he was waiting on his coffee and crumpets to eventually get back around to him. And besides, maybe they could also shine a bit more light on who this individual was breaking into homes. Or, atleast enough for him to do some snooping of his own.

She gave the masked figure a questioning look.

For a moment, it almost seemed like the two of them were lost in thought, before he finally decided to nod his head.

Ruby then looked at the fox, and asked, "Well, I was gonna tell my cousin and her partner this, first, but... I guess it can be whispered to a few others... promise ya don't say anything, though? We were wantin' to let others know slowly, and with all that's happenin' right now, we could get mixed up into the 'Missing Mammals' case goin' on right now, but all for the wrong reasons, otherwise."

As Ulick sat there listening to the rabbit as she spoke he just became more and more interested. And conserned. First it was break-in's now it was missing mammals? was there a MO? A pattern? Or was the same thing that happened a few years back going on, again? It was all abit much, but maybe... Hopefully, this little rabbit would accidentally spill something that was of use. Though, in the mean time he kept a calm face. "Are you two, like... A thing? Also, Leah was it?" his attention turned to the bar where the leopard was "I gave you a hefty tip, the least you can do it not keep me waiting on my lunch." He turned back to the rabbit, and thing? It was hard to get a read on what this individual was. Even his scent masked behind the smell of the burrows was purely alien.

"Crumpets and Coffee are still being made, sir! Making sure your order is extra fresh! Apologies for the delay!" came the reply of Leah from over the counter.

Ruby, in the meantime, shook her head. "N-no... I mean... n-not that I didn't..." her face now started to form red, while the hooded figure cleared his throat, and turned towards the window, in a way to avoid eye contact with anyone at this point.

Then Ruby rubbed her chin in thought, before deciding to take a shot in the dark. With her paws, she made a few gestures.

"~Do you know Sign Language?~" her gestures would read out. She did so under the table, however, so that the Otter wouldn't spot it.

Ulick continued to stare at the rabbit, waiting on an answer before eventually he caught the movement that was happening under the table. Looking down, he saw the movements of her paw as she spoke in Sign Language, asking him if he did as well. In return, Ulick simply nodded in the same, now eerie, silence.

She clears her throat, smiles, and says to her hooded friend, "Wow! This coffee is... actually a lot better than I thought it would be, huh?"

Below the table, however, she signs, "~My friend isn't from around here. As a predator, you should be able to pick up his scent... but it isn't like any animal you've seen, is it?~"

Ulick went quiet, while looking at his tablet's screen that he insured was hidden this time from peering eyes. Though, he was also keeping the corner of his eyes on the rabbit who was speaking to him in nothing more than the mere motions of her paws underneath the table. Asking him if she could smell her friends 'weirdness' a bit of a strange question, but, it was true. And so, in response he simply nodded once again to answer her question subtly.

She was about to reply, when he cleared his throat, nodding towards the leopard girl, who was carrying a plate with two delicious-looking crumpets and a cup of freshly-made coffee. Both of which were emitting a very nice smell, and a thick layer of steam rising from the cup and the plate.

She gently slid the plate near Ulick, carefully so as to avoid distracting him from his tablet, and gently sat the cup across from his right arm, distant enough so he's less likely to bump into it, but still within reach.

"I'm so sorry that it took so long! We've... been having a special on the Crumpets, so they sell pretty fast... a-anyways, lemme know if ya need anything!" And with that, she politely bows her head and turns to leave.

Ulick, sitting there as though he was unaware of the (is it cheetah or leopard?) and when he heard he speak with uncertianty he looked to her "Is everything alright lass? You seem a bit distressed." his question was sincere enough, he'd paid her well, and would hate to see someone he just invested a hundred dollars in getting in trouble. Because, despite the bit of delay with his lunch, she was otherwise a very, seemingly, nice girl.

(It is, in fact, a leopard. I was in a rush, and couldn't proofread that bit. xD)

Leah quickly nodded her head and replied, "Y-yes, sir... it's just... been a bit hectic of a day, that's all." And with that, she made her way back across the counter, so as to give the customers some space.

Ruby waited for a moment before signing under the table again.

"~My friend isn't really a wolf, as you can already tell. The truth is, I'm kinda-sorta hiding him, so that he doesn't get falsely accused for the mysterious disappearances. Hard to explain without sounding crazy, though, so I'll be blunt about it... he's an Alien... and not just from Out-Of-Country.~"

He could see the girls rush, and assuming it was her boss pushing her as bosses tend to do, he let it go. Though, he'd be taking another glance of the situation from a different angle.

Then, he looked back to his previous conversation, knowing that instead of hearing words he should be paying attention to the rabbits movements, but he still chose to only keep them in the corner of his eyes only responding with the occasional nodding or shaking of his head. Though, when he saw "Alien" being used in a more literal sense, he stopped what he was doing and simply looked over his tablet and stared at the male with a glance of awe before turning his eyes to the rabbit, and back to the wolf. "Really..." he worded silently with his mouth.

Once back at his apartment James flopped back on his bed, tired as hell, but not falling asleep immediately, even with how tired he was. As he plugged in his phone he held it above his face, looking at the picture he had taken, 'What kind of creature is this?' he thought to himself. It looked like no animal he knew, hairless with a weirdly shaped face. he didn't even have paws! The hyena sighed. his arm falling to his side as he lay on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. If only he could keep his eyes open... maybe them he could figure out just what was happening here. The disappearing mammals, the break ins, a strange animal. Something was going on here, and he needed to know what. Not only that, but he needed his sleep if he was going to put everything together. Or at least that's what his body said as he faded into unconsciousness.

(he will come into play again in a bit.)

The hooded figure nodded his head, before signing, "~I come in peace, though. Trying to help her at her new farm.~"

Ruby, after waiting for him to finish signing, added, "~But he didn't intend on coming here. His ship broke down, and crashed near my parents' farm. We told the NEWS that it was just a MASA Test gone wrong, though, so that he doesn't get caught. When he landed, it was close to the time when the disappearances started... but I know he couldn't have done it, because a lot of his body was broken when I found him. My family and I nursed him back to health. We're just waiting for my cousin to arrive, so that we can tell her about this... that, and we...~" Her paws begin to shake, as recent memories start to flood her head.

And so, he finishes signing for her, instead. "~We found a victim of the Disappearances going on... had a note on him. A possum, who was either trapped in his fridge, or refused to leave it until he died.~"

All he could do was listen with his eyes while the rabbit spoke with her paws. The tale would have been a bit hard to believe hadn't the male been sitting right in front of him. The smell was like nothing he'd ever smelled before, and he'd been around plenty of people from every district of Zootopia. And he smelt of... Radiation? (Radiation of Space) It was the closest thing he could assume the smell was, but even that was a far shot being he'd never been close enough to any radiation ever in his life to even know what that, in fact, smelled like.
He then saw the mention of a dead body on a possum, his eyes becoming a lot wider as the seriousness of the situation was beginning to show itself, or rather, being dropped in his lap. Looking over to see if the otter was paying attention when all of a sudden, the Rabbits iCarrot would make a audible 'ding!' if she chose to look at the text it read as followed. "I appreciate this information, I can't say I can be of any help. Though, I now know the precautions to take to ensure the safety of my little sister's life, as well as my own, and that alone is worth more than I can ever ask." there was a moment of silence, and then there was another loud ding and upon the rabbit's phone's notification it read "$1,500.00 has been added to your bank account by an unknown IP address. Click to confirm transaction."

She would stare blankly at the text for a moment, before showing the text to the hooded figure. He stared at it for a moment, before pointing at a spot on the phone, though where he pointed at would be difficult for one to see, due to the positioning of the screen.

She then nodded her head in silent agreement, before tapping "Decline" on the transaction.

"Transaction Cancelled" would pop up on Ulick's screen, showing that his balance hasn't changed, and remains the same.

She then very slightly bowed her head, respectfully, at the Fox, while the figure borrowed Ruby's phone and slid his right glove off, briefly, while hiding it under the table. At close inspection, his "paw's" fingers were a lot longer and thinner than most mammals', similar to that of a "Primate", which alone was quite a vary rare species barely mentioned in the History Books (and most often mentioned as going "Extinct" during the Evolutionary Era), but with far less hair on it. In fact, his skin, a pale tan color, was very clean-shaven, and easy to see below the table, doubly so for a predator, whose eyes would likely see through the darkness of the shadows a lot easier.

Then, a text pops up on Ulick's tablet, which reads:
"~Thank you, but we care more about the safety of our people... even me, who among you, I do not belong. You seem like a good person, though, so we take your trust as payment enough. Besides, your sister could probably use that money for School, and you could use it to take care of her. We're farmers, so we can get by at Minimum Wage, and still have enough food to fill our stomachs. Your offer is appreciated, but we want to make sure as many animals are safe, and that includes you and your sister. Be careful out there. Things may not be the same, and I'm sure to be questioned eventually, due to the circumstances. Whatever they do to me, once my cover is blown, is not important right now. But if I can prove myself to the animals of this world that I mean you no harm, I hope my good wishes for you can be enough to start. Keep taking care of your sister. Family is very important, in good times and bad. Take that from someone who still has one out there, but can't really see them anymore.~"

His eyes briefly motioned up at the last statement, as if hinting towards the general direction "Up High". He then gave Ruby back her phone, and slipped his glove back on, before relaxing on the table, remaining ever-so-watchful around them, yet acting natural in doing so.

Ruby patted him on the arm, in a comforting gesture, which made him nod his head in appreciation. Family, of course, was a subject that the tall biped would find the need to keep in his mind... and he'd be damned if he didn't do his part in making sure at least one family up here was doing well in these trying times.

Similar can be said for Ruby, in fact. Family meant the world to her. To imagine losing it all in a single task is no easy thought to bear. Though she felt a deep sense of pride in helping this alien feel like one of them, her sense of reason and logic only made it that much clearer that, no matter how much she wanted to make him fit in, he would never truly be an animal like them... and the face hidden within the mask... the lack of a muzzle... only made it that much more heavier of a thought to bear. When he would speak, his words would forever be accented, or replaced with signs for the syllables he couldn't pronounce.

A sad thought, indeed, that he would be forever cursed to bear such a heavy burden... but a hopeful thought, for her, that she may be a shoulder for him to lean on, at the very least.

He turned towards the Fox again, and slumped his head down between his shoulders, so that only those in front of him could see. Then he brought his hands to the lower corner of his mask and, ever-so-slightly, lifted it up just to where Ulick could, possibly, see only the lower half of his face.

Sure enough, behind the mask was a mouth atop a flat surface, with not even the familiar protrusion of a muzzle. And like his "paw", his face lacked in any fur, save for a very thin layer of dark brown fuzz below his nose and his chin, with a line drifting up.

His lips would move, however, and very silently mouth out the words "Thank you," in a hushed whisper, before he slipped the mask back over his face completely.

Looking forward again, he saw that the cashier and her boss were still preoccupied with the orders from a few other mammals that mostly occupied the other half of the coffee shop, either too distracted by each other, their phones, or simply too tired to even pay attention to their surroundings.

'He's ugly.' was all he could think when the male decided to spare him a glance of what hid behind the mask he wore. He was the equivalent of a naked version of the primates that went extinct long ago. Though, another thought came to mind when he remebered something that had been mentioned in his history class about some of the primates having large, protruding rear-ends. The thought made him chuckle a bit at the idea of this naked primate having a swollen, red butt.

Quickly catching himself, he cleared his throat and send another text "You're welcome, just know I will be keeping tabs." and with that the chat closed from is tablet and was forced closed from her phone, not able to be traced, back-tracked, or re-opened no matter how hard she'd try to bring it back up.

The hooded man nodded his head, seemingly unfazed by whatever the look Ulick gave him was, and signed a reply.

"~Good to know. We'll keep in touch... might make this place a frequent spot to visit, once the heat dies down in our house.~"

When he saw that they needed a place to lay low, he wasn't below helping those in need. There was a moment of silence as he tapped on his tablet when another notification popped up on the rabbits iCarrot, "Recommended: Houses within Zootopia for rent, for cheap! You gotta check out number 3!" The site obviously was fake, a proxy set up for no other purpose than to be a disguise though, the third picture showed a small apartment just about a block away from the Cafe. And with that, he'd wait until one of them looked up to him, with which, he'd reply with a very coy wink of his own.

Ruby looked at her phone's popup, and hummed, before slightly shaking her head and sending a reply text to his tablet, making sure to remove the number's history from her own phone. Seeing that this figure was, at the very least, secretive, she felt she should at least respect his privacy, if they wish for him to trust them, as well.

"~Thanks for the offer, but we already have a home. We're just waiting for the police to investigate the place before we can continue making it a home... that farm just a couple blocks away. I'm just waiting for my cousin Judy to show up so that they can get the Legal stuff out of the way, and hopefully remove the fridge, while scouting through the place for any more random bodies laying around. The cases usually involve more than one victim, after all... and I'm a bit too squeamish to look around for any more. But thank you, though!~"

The would have been his last act of kindness from him, and as they looked up and signed that they were not interested, he once again, gave a little shrug (Had you read my last post you'd of known he deleted any trace of his presence from her phone, entirely already.)
Taking another sip of his coffee and another bite of his crumpet, he tried to forget about the day as he'd need his strength for anything else the day had to offer him.
