Fantasy Zombie Apocalypse

Kayla kept on his heels, machete dangling from her hand beside her as she continued to glance around, not sure when something might come out due to her scream from earlier. She soon gave in to Gerrig's relaxed manner, her eyes now fixated on him and the road. "So... I didnt ask... Where are we anyways?" She asked. "I've just sort of been wandering South."

Gerrig began to twirl his axe around in circles as he whistled. He enjoyed traveling, whether it be by car, plane, train, boat, or by foot. That's how he had lived most of his life ever since the infection broke out, and it suited him just fine. Back in his old life, he found himself hating being stuck in one place for years at a time. While this virus might have ended the world, it sure did give him plenty of time to travel. He looked back at the girl, ceasing his whistling for a moment to listen. He laughed and shook his head at her question. "You saying you haven't even taken a look at any signs on the way here, kid? You're in Flordia. Unfortunately, I can't pinpoint the exact location. Somewhere near it's top, I think. Hard to say, really."

(By the way, here's a face claim to Gerrig. Just so you have a face to give to him.)

Kayla began to smile awkwardly at Gerrig. "I haven't... But you know most signs have also been knocked out right? A lot further than I thought I was though." She smiled and was spreading her strides to match Gerrig's to walk beside him. She sighed and holstered her machete, getting out a rubber band. She ran her fingers through her unkempt hair, pulling it back from the right side to reveal it was just a really long Mohawk, she managed to keep the sides short, even during the apocalypse.

Gerrig rolled his eyes at her response. "I don't know much of anything that's happening lately. Vinnie was the guy who kept tabs on the outside world. Couldn't you just tell from the heat and friendly attitude of the people though?" He laughed to himself as he continued to walk, turning his head back to make sure she was still near. She was, and was fixing her hair into some sort of ponytail he guessed. He took a moment to look her up and down before continuing. "What's with that getup, anyway? You remind me of the bandits in one the video games I used to play. What was It? Fallin? Fallit? Ah, I don't remember."

"Har-har." Kayla said sarcastically as she forced the rubber band over her hair. "Fallout." She responded simply as she tightened her hair inside the makeshift hair tie. "And because I like it. Just cause the world as we knew it ended, doesn't mean I have to be uncomfortable in my own skin." She glared at the tall man. She liked her clothes and her hair.

Gerrig shrugged, half accepting the response. "Whatever you say, kid. Wear what you want, I don't give a damn. Couldn't hurt to wash your face now and again though." A backhanded comment to be sure, but Gerrig was usually painfully honest. The dirt and grime that covered her, and pretty much anyone else's who was still alive now, face didn't help much in the way of appearances. Even though his own face wasn't as great as he wanted, with boots of soot and the like here and there, he did try and keep himself presentable. Old habits die hard, he guessed. "So where you from, anyway? Any particular reason you're down here in the lovely state of Floridia? Don't tell me; the oranges, right?"

Kayla shut right up. He was quite rude. No wonder that Vinnie deserted him... Not much for company. She thought to herself. Then she shook it and came back. "Its not like running water is a thing anymore." She snapped. "I wasn't specifically aiming for Florida. My dad was bringing us south, I lost him and my mother but continued south anyways. I'm from Michigan. But my parents figured, get on a boat, go to a small island, with less or maybe no infected..." She paused with a sigh. "And just... Survive till we could contact other people, or, we died of old age."

Gerrig listened to her without expression. Funny how that was so common an idea with the people he had met. Just get a boat and pray it works, right? He and Vinnie had the idea too, but they didn't want an island. Vinnie said Greenland was the place to be. Isolated with not many people and at temps where undead wouldn't last long? Yeah, sounded nice. He shook himself out of his reverie as they passed a crashed car, staying wary in case there was something behind it, but returning to his casual walk once they passed. "Sorry to hear it. Never easy losing someone you love. I hope they're happy, wherever they are now. Good to see you're not broken from it."

Kayla laughed as her eyes were beginning to well up with tears. "Yeah. I'm fine. I didnt have to pull the trigger so I guess thats probably why I'm okay." She was good at hiding her feelings when she needed to. "Where were you and Vinnie going?" She asked.

Gerrig made a mental note of this, but did not push the topic further. It was usually better to let those feelings lie. "Me and Vinnie? Eh, we were just looking for some kind of plane or boat. He was talking about Greenland or New Zealand. I didn't care much, so long as wherever we got to was safe." His face contorted into a scowl, now remembering how Vinnie had abandoned him. He and Vinnie never really got along, but mutual interest in survival kept the two of them together. Vinnie knew where to go and Gerrig kept him safe. It seemed like a similar situation now as well, though Gerrig was the one who knew where to go.

Kayla nodded as she caught his expression. "Sorry..." She then listened to him, staring at her shadow to the right of her, bobbing with her every step. "Sounds like he was a smart cookie." She laughed softly to herself then started to glance around, looking for any sort of movement.

Gerrig sighed, shaking his head as they continued to walk down the semi quiet street. He didn't like to dwell on the past. Eventually, the two made their way to a four way intersection. Each direction had cars smashed together here and there, the panic the outbreak had caused people evident from their wrecks. He stood in the middle and looked up at the street signs, pondering for a moment before he pointed to his left and began making his way through the wrecks, still walking as carefree as he did before. "So, do you think the rest of the world got hit with whatever it is that's here? You heard anything from the outside world? As far as I know, everyone is either dead or dying."

"I've tried to make contact but I've never gotten an answer." Kayla said as she followed him to the left. "Either it's all the towers are down or the entire world is affected, but... If it's just the towers, don't ya think the rest of the world would be trying to get survivors and bombing huge hordes of infected?" She asked, basically saying the entire world had to be affected, because the latter to her last point is none too kind.

"Well sheesh, ain't you a ray of sunshine today." Gerrig laughed at her response. It was pretty blunt, but he could understand where it came from. He didn't like to the think the whole world was done for, though. It may be cheesy to think, but Gerrig had hoped that everyone else on Earth hadn't been hit with whatever this is. What this infection did to people....it wasn't something he'd wish on his worst enemy. "Could be they're working on some sort of vaccine or something. Don't want to kill more than they need to. Doesn't matter now though, I suppose. Right now, as far as I know, you and I are the only two alive. Well, besides Vinnie, but chances are hes bit the dust now without me there to protect him." He stopped at the end of a car with the trunk of it slightly ajar. He opened it up slowly and his eyes widened. "Score!" He exclaimed, reaching inside and pulling out a box of unopened Twinkies. Opening it up, he pulled one from it's contents, tore off the plastic, and shoved it into his mouth with a satisfied sigh. He offered the box to the girl behind him. "Whant ohne?"

Kayla smiled and nodded. "All the sugar and carbs!" She said excitedly as she stole one and quickly opened and devoured the spongy, creamy goodness. She sighed happily as she closed her eyes. They['re so good. Goodness it's been so long. She then opened her eyes and began to slow down on the one twinkie, knowing Gerrig probably would want to save them and not let her have another.
