Lord of the Dreadfort
"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn..."

The horrid chanting is drowned out by the crashing of salt and sea against the shores, spires of rock looming against cliff faces. The city lie just beyond, in the darkness that too finds itself drifting all around, beckoning to be ventured in, calling those that wander near enough to their grave. Not a grave that is made by a tangible force, but one that is created by those themselves that choose to subject their minds to the demons that slumber, driven insane by the mere thought of the sunken city and the treasure that may settle within its halls, deep, deep down within its halls. Beckoning with the darkness, it speaks, no discernible speech, but the strange chanting of those that cannot be made into words. Accompanying the essence of fear is the mortified and distorted musics that come from within, an echo within even the vastest of spaces, making one puzzle as to what it is that could create such a noise. There is no quiet here. That is the fear of it. If there was no sound, none coming from this eldritch palace, then you would feel safe. But you are not. None are safe from themselves in his territory. R'leyh awaits for those that have no choice but to seek sanctuary there.

It is the late 1800's, but you do not know. You know nothing of what is to be on this Earth, only but what stands before you, towering over the mortals that you are, a timeless structure, older than thought and consciousness, built by something otherworldly, the architecture screams with strange and unreal masonry, unable to be processed by the natural laws that man knows, it should not function how it does, but the spires and towers, coming to points and blocks alike, perplex the mind, confusing even the most intense of intellectuals. This is one of the many strange things that come to your view as you awaken upon the beach, your vessel is gone, whatever form of transportation you had taken to this place, vanished without trace. No remnants left to pour over, seeking for clues. There is but one salvation now, and it is the Sunken City of R'leyh. Within, you will have to discover the impetus that is driving you to go inside, what it is that calls you to the damnable arches.

So, yeah, welcome friends to a dark eldritch horror based rp. As a sailing vessel is caught off course, and reaches one of the points on Earth farthest from any other land mass, is R'leyh, not the point in which you were meant to travel to, but where you landed nonetheless, and from here, must find shelter, surviving with those that could bear the sickness and plague that was wrought upon your ship in the first place. None of you know this, however, as you have all had your minds cleared of useless thought and memory, because R'leyh is all that you need to think about right now.

Anyone interested? It's a pretty barebones plot, obviously, but I do have some tricks up my sleeve that will drive the plot forward quite a bit, and make for some interesting character development.

Fantasy/realism. It's set in our world, but a world unknown to man, or at least, a place unknown to man at this time. It takes on fantasy elements due to the nature of the ritualistic carvings and themes, but there are no vampires or werewolves or anything of the like. Nor is it anime based, and if anyone brings any themes of such into this rp, will be promptly denied, as I hope for it to be serious and well thought out, with a meticulous focus on the macabre and such other eldritch themes that accompany it. There is no magic either, or at least for the characters, even though there are also some themes that will be integrated with the rituals that are presented by NPCs, so, it's up to you to determine where you want to categorize it, but it is most likely to fall under a fantasy theme.

Forgive me, was a slight hiccup in my understanding, but detailed, for sure. I felt like that was semi-given, but I should have specified, my apologies.

In that case, I wish you luck, because I don't think I am experienced enough for detailed yet, and I normally stick to casual. Good luck! :)

Ah, it's refreshing to see another Lovecraft fan. I've got a 1x1 recruitment thread open right now that has a Lovecraft-themed roleplay already but if that doesn't take off soon, I'll join this one.
