Fantasy X-Clan Reborn

Shog

The Infinite Being

78 years ago the first ever superhero team emerged. The team was comprised of an alien, some enhanced people, a tech expert, and some mages. They were known as the X-Clan. The world was in awe of their power and willingness to fight for justice. In their wake, however, villains arose. The X-Clan and various factions of villains battled constantly and it soon became an all out war. In the Year 1970 it seemed the war had ended with the X-Clan the victors, but the world had seen how powerful and dangerous the world was becoming. It was deemed unsafe for independent groups of vigilantes to roam free and unregulated. As a result the X-Clan was disbanded and all vigilantes had to register to a world wide organization simply known as Paladin.

Paladin runs every super hero team separately (primarily by region). The teams follow strict guidelines, but are mostly free to do as they please while Paladin funds them. In addition Paladin will protect their families. It sounds like a good deal, but many are opposed to registering and revealing their identity for various reasons. Maybe they want to live a normal life or to give their family normal lives. Regardless, every person with powers, alien, and vigilante are required to register with Paladin. After X-Clan was broken up the alien, their lead enhanced as well as another enhanced, and 1 mage remained in the field . The rest obediently registered (except the tech expert, who remains missing to this day), but refused to remain in the line of duty under Paladin.

Now in modern day, things seem pretty stable. Unknown to the world, however, corruption has made its home inside Paladin. The organization is slowly being taken apart form the inside, and almost no one knows. Soon the world will be ruled by Paladin with an iron fist with an army of heroes to enforce it. Someone needs to end it before it begins. The world needs a new X-Clan.

You wake up one Spring morning and find a package in your mail box (or another location you will find it). Inside is a tablet with only a single power button. There is no way to plug anything into it and any attempts to hack into it prove ineffective. There is no sound (all text must be read) and trying to record or take pictures only results in it appearing to have a blank screen. When you turn it on, the following appears. Everything after hitting PLAY is automatically shown. Pictures are shown intermittently through the entire thing to help provide proof. (Titan is the public name of the missing tech expert)

After you play this message, this device will be wiped clean with no chance of recovering any of the information.

[PLAY]

You have exceptional abilities and I have a job far more important than what you are doing now. Whether you know it or not, Paladin is rotting and will soon control the world. There is nothing anyone can do about it from the inside, so a more direct tactic is necessary. I need you to meet me and your future team mates. Together, you have a chance to take down those corrupting Paladin and set the world straight. Let be clear, though. If you accept my invitation, then Paladin may identify you and mark you as a villain. They will focus attention on you and your team and you will be put against some of the worlds best heroes. Should this scare you away, then I was wrong and you were a bad choice to send this message to in the first place. Should you accept, find unit 553 at NY International Shipping at midnight this Tuesday the 5th.

Sincerely, Titan

Seth received the message 2 days in advance. It wasn't until that night that he decided to go and check it out. He left his apartment complex at 10:00, which was not abnormal for him. He rode a taxi most of the way before continuing on foot. He managed to make his way to the top of a nearby building and checked out the shipping yard from a distance. Security seemed minimal, and they seemed to avoid a specific area. Perhaps they were paid off. Regardless, he had to be careful. He formed his ice armor around himself and then made an ice replica next to him. He made his way to several other buildings and made similar ice statues there too. If he found himself in a tight spot, he could teleport to one of them. He also stashed a few statues in some alleys as well. Now was the moment of truth.

He approached the fence and formed ice under his feet to lift him over and on top of a building. With the wave of his hand the ice melted and the water vanished. He made his way to the designated location using the tops of shipping containers. He found number 553 on ground level, so he knelt down on top of a nearby one and watched it. He muttered a few words that didn't seem to belong to any language on earth and 4 symbols momentarily glowed in gold in front of him. The time was 11:55. Seth took another look around and continued to wait.

-=(John Star - NY - His House)=-

John sat up from his bed, he rubbed his eyes; his vision clearing from his slumber. He stood up, the cold floor making him wince, his back popped in protest to the movement.

John shuffled his way to the bathroom; he did as needed and headed straight for the kitchen. He lived on the outskirts of New York, more remote than most would like; but he wasn't like most. No electricity, no mailbox, no address. His house runs on solar power, it was expensive as heck. But, it was worth it.

John walked into the kitchen, he yawned and started towards the fridge; but, something caught his eye. A package.

'How?' Was easily the first thing that popped into his head. His mind was active now; racing at one hundred miles an hour. He looked left and right, no signs of B 'n' E. John warily picked up the package, he turned it over in his hands. It was addressed to him.

John grabbed a pair of scissors and sliced open the skin of the package; a tablet was inside. He instantly pressed the power button, deciding it was too late to care about consequences. He read the message.

'That's tonight.' John suddenly regretted not having electronics, he couldn't Google where this place was. But, it shouldn't be hard to miss.

***

The day passed by quickly for John, he slept a good duration of it; he planned to fly there himself. Which means, yes, he's going. For sure.

John changed into darker clothing; easier not to be spotted that way.

John flew above the clouds, his vision slightly impaired from the darkened clouds.
'At least I can get some nice starlight.'

***

John flew a few small circles around the Shipping Yard, deciding whether he should descend or not. Exhaustion won over and he made a quick descent; plummeting headfirst towards the boxes.

With a small -thud- John landed on a shipping box, but this one was different; a young male was crouched towards the edge.

"Are you Titan?" John panted; he was huffing and puffing from the tiring flight. Even all the sleep he had, didn't provide him with enough energy for such a small flight across the country.

@Shog

Pearl is having breakfast, consisting of Japanese noodles and orange juice, in her spacecraft. Today wouldn't be the most productive day, mostly because Paladin didn't seem to be feeling very productive either, they didn't have anything planned for today. Thankfully, this meant Pearl had time to relax, though this was usually followed by plenty of unwanted predictions. She was getting up to wash the dishes, when out of nowhere, she started to have this nagging feeling something was outside her backdoor. She took her taser and slowly opened the backdoor and found a tablet. She looked around for anyone who could have left it there, but couldn't see anyone. Carefully she reached out to take the take the tablet.

Pearl spent the next 20 minutes scratching her head, trying to figure out where the tablet came from or who sent it. She tried hacking it, recording it, taking it apart, she even tried to find out who 'Titan' was, but nothing is getting through. Whoever made this is a genius. She sat down, feeling defeated and drank a sip of hot water. She would have to wait.

~~~
It was 11:23pm. If she wanted to go she had to go now. She closed her eyes, the visions and feelings she received over the week had predicted this, she knew something like this would happen. But what it didn't tell her was what decision to make. If this 'Titan' was truly trying to stop Paladin, than she would join them without hesitation. But it could be Paladin, maybe they found out where she was. No. They would be more straight forward. Pearl glanced nervously at her watch. 11:31. She took a deep breath and grabbed her satchel, she put in her computer and a taser, just in case, and headed out to catch a cab.
Hyjal's eyes opened slowly and the girl, not even awake yet, still had the ability to curse her humanity which stopped her from pulling all-nighters on her discoveries. With a yawn, the girl went from her office straight to a coffee pot, thanking her past self for setting it to brew before she was due to awake. She reached for a cup, pouring the coffee in, and finally looked at the time.
"It's not even all that late.." she grumbled, noting it was only about 4:30 in the morning. What day was today..? Tuesday? Shrugging and not really in the mood to care, Hyjal went back to her desk, absentmindedly picking up a package and cautiously tearing off the tape as she actually began to wake up.
How the hell'd anyone get in here? With all that security.. She opened the package, finding a.. tablet? She'd expected a bomb or maybe one of those fancy flash drives that hacked your computer. She never understood why people did something in such a crude manner--why use an idea that's portrayed so much in movies? Why not just hack it yourself?
Hyjal pushed her focus back to the tablet, pressing play as it had decided to instruct her.
...
Honestly, she was more surprised that
Titan had sent her a message; it was like a dream come true! Dancing a bit around her office, Hyjal set to stuffing the information into her brain and hoping she didn't forget.
[]
The day was really quite boring; Paladin had nothing planned, and Hyjal was too far away from any breakthroughs to have a celebration or to be excited. A few messengers had hurried in, requesting projects which Hyjal would accept or decline without any feeling towards those who had sent it. Finally it had gotten dark, and Hyjal was still up under the pretense of another all-nighter to disguise the fact that she was about to help take Paladin down, no matter how long it took. As if she had needed something, the girl grabbed her trench coat--which didn't help her look taller, she just really found it comfortable--and the satchel that held all of her tools and a variety of bombs and all that fanciness- and left her office, flicking the lights off. She decided against taking a car, as that'd make her path traceable, and walked the not-so-far distance towards the shipping yard as she rummaged through her bag, tossing out any bugs that might have been there.
Eventually she reached it, pulling on her coat to hide her mechanical arm to make it harder to see her in what little light there was. She leaned against the container labeled 553, fully aware that someone was on top of it--the thunk that came afterwards, of a second body, and a quiet voice didn't help keep them hidden, either. Adjusting her goggles in hopes that they wouldn't fall off, Hyjal clambered onto the container, giving a cheerful wave and just barely managing to catch the blasted strap of her beloved accessory before it fell off.
"Hello, kiddos!"
"No, I most certainly am not," Seth replied, his voice slightly muffled by the ice mask. He was about to speak again when an overly excited girl climbed up to join them. "And unless he managed to change gender and reverse the aging process, neither is she. Am I correct in assuming you two got the same message as me? What might I call the two of you?"
-=(John Star - NY - Shipping Yard)=-
John blinked, the young male was not Titan? But when guy mentioned the message, that clicked things into place. He looked at the guy, then shifted his gaze to the girl. Teammates?
John promptly nodded at the icy-looking male. Looks like he wasn't the only one with a disguise, though, his looked less cool; all he had was some blurred features. Mr. Ice though? Cool ice armour.
John shifted nervously,
'Should I give him my real name, what if we got different messages? Nothing stated I had to give my name, right?' John's dark space appearanced wings flapped nervously, his green eyes glanced at his surroundings; now cautious of being caught.
"Well, you can
call me awesome. But, a name could be 'Son of Stars'. How about both of you?" John said, shifting his dopey grin in between the two. John clicked his fangs gently in his mouth, slight fear creeping its way into his thoughts.
He held his right hand gently over his tattoo, for once remembering that it could be used to identify him.
"I did! Couldn't believe Titan himself messaged me, but hey! You all can call me Hyjal." It wasn't like hiding her identity would help; despite covering up most of her skill, she was still somehow shoved onto Paladin posters and such because of her ability and all that fanciness. They would probably have figured it out, if she wasn't hiding her mechanical arm and if it wasn't so damn dark.
"What do we get to call you, Mr. Ice-inator?" she asked, shuffling into a more comfortable position and watching her two apparent teammates with a slightly childish grin.
Seth had to think about it for a moment. There was no way he was giving them his real name and he wasn't well known enough as a vigilante for the city to give him a name yet. "Just call me frost," he finally said. He looked around again and noticed no one else. With only a couple of minutes before midnight, he hoped Titan had bothered to contact more than three of them.
Barefoot, Nat padded into the small living room of her New York apartment, her eyes falling on the mysterious package which sat so innocently on her wooden table. She approached it with caution, wrapping her long figers around its delicate wrapping. Biting her lip, she tore into the package and followed the instructions as directed.
***
"What is this?" She muttered, slamming the device onto her table. She narrowed her eyes.
***
That night, Nat walked out of her apartment, travelling by car to the address at question. It was nearly midnight now: The sky was dark as cobalt. She parked and walked the rest of the way to her destination. Choking on hollowness, Nat hid her face under the safety of her metal mask before entering the facility. The young woman regarded the individuals with a quizzical scowl. "Hm, so I guess I'm not alone," she muttered under her breath.
-=(John Star - NY - Shipping Yard)=-
John nodded, "Okay, Jack Frost-" John snorted, attempting to contain laughter. "So, do you know what time it is?" John ran a hand through his black hair, small curls getting caught in his fingers.
Looking around, John spotted that another person had arrived, their expression not seeming to be too friendly, "Just how many messages were sent?"
John sighed and clenched and unclenched the hem of his black clothing, his green eyes narrowed and alert; keeping an eye on the newcomer, to make sure they weren't a current threat.
The NY International Shipping looked slightly cynical at night, the quiet buzz of lighting equipment reminded her to keep out of sight. Before she ran into any security cameras, she took out her phone, hacked into the yard's security system and replayed yesterday's camera feed. As she neared unit 553, she took out her taser and hid it behind her. If it was a trap she could at least defend herself.
She stopped at unit 553 and heard a few people, talking quietly. She eavesdropped for a while then decided their intentions weren't hostile. She took a deep breath and walked into view, taser still behind her back.
"Hello, I don't suppose any of you are Titan?" She asked cautiously, forcing a smile.
@Shog @Iridescence @Trombone Geek @Goldencurls
Seth threw his hands up incredulously. "Is she the only other one here who actually knows who Titan is?" He asked, gesturing towards Hyjal. "No, none of us are Titan. He was the tech expert from X-Clan that refused to regiser with Paladin and disappeared. Probably went back to being some sort of full time rich guy." He just shook his head and whispered the same words as earlier, and once again the golden symbols showed up momentarily. Only a minute until midnight.
Nox watched the small group gather while she hid in the shadows. She had received a package earlier that week which surprised her, why would Titan what an assassin to be on a team of "heroes"? She glances at her watch to check to time and decides it would be logical to join the group and wait for Titan to explain himself. Besides, she could feel all the powers that they held and was itching to try them out. Walking over to them, she removes her mask and shakes her long red hair free from the hood. " Se-vante Heroes." speaking her greetings.
Kain had crash landed approximately 6 months ago near the city of New York. In that time he had gained the ability to speak English, and had learned how to blend into society to a extent. In that time he had taken the place of a small time materials manufacturing company. He did this by feeding off of the owners blood who happened to be vacationing in a cabin with his family near his crash site. After realizing he not only needed a place to stay, and a source of income he decided this would be the best course of action for the time being. Fast forward to the current time kain hovered above the small group of individuals who had come to the same meeting place, as instructed within the cryptic message sent to him. He had arrived shortly after the supposed ice mage had arrived. While he did believe there were other supernaturals; along with aliens in the universe one could easily claim they were something they are not. Still if they were here clearly they were important enough for this titan to call them here. He silently waited for whatever to happen given he did not need to breath he made no noise say for the small coin he regularly flipped in his hand. Calmly he waited laying on a beam in the shadows above the group.
At precisely midnight the shipping container doors opened. The let out a low groan of protest, as though hey hadn't been opened in a long time. There was nothing inside except for a few boxes stacked in the back. As soon as the doors finished opening, part of the floor inside the container fell about a foot. The part of the floor that dropped down split in two and slid to the sides. There was now a fairly large rectuangulat hole in the container.
Before anyone could approach to inspect the hole a solid black elevator rose out of it. Once it stopped, the doors slid open to reveal a man in his 80s. He was well dressed and standing remarkably well for someone of his age. Seth suspected he had machines to help him stand, if not replacing his legs all together.
"Thank you all for comming tonight," he said, taking a few steps out of the elevator, but not the container. "As you might have guessed, I am the one who invited you all here. I am Titan. We have much to discuss, but not out here. If you would all be so kind as to follow me back down, it would be much appreciated." He stood to the side as to allow for everyone to pass with ease, knowing the elevator could not move until he was aboard himself.
===============================================================
Seth wasn't sure why, but he was expecting a more impressive enterence. Regardless, he wasn't going to back out now. He created a little ice slide down from the top of the container he was on and slid down on his feet as though he had done so hundreds of time before, which wasn't far from the truth. He left it up for the others to get down and entered the elevator, leaning against the back corner. If everything went south, he could still use his statues he had set up earlier to teleport out. He also thought he recognized Titan from somewhere. Obviously back in his hero days he had an outfit that disguised his identity, so that wasn't it. Maybe he was just some local rich guy. It didn't really matter alol that much.
Nox watched Seth as he slid down the ice slide off the container and searched through what other powers she could use to get herself down. Finding one she thought would be fun, she mimics John Star's power of flight and tries to carefully glide down off the container. Although, beings that she has never dealt flying or gliding before, she lands hard and has to roll to no injure herself. Righting herself quickly, she strides into the elevator.
Behind the silver surface of her metal mask, there was a hint of boredom that sat on Nat's face. She was expecting something far more daring, not a simple stage stunt. However, what she defiantly wasn't expecting was for Titain to be an old man. He seemed barely capable of leading and training a group of powered individuals. However, hidden in the creases of his pale face and the strength of his stare, she could sense an unfaltering determination, which contrasted to his frail appearance.
The woman's thick black hair wafted around her like black smoke as she approached the container's edge, where the floor lowered. Jack Frost was the first to travel downwards toward the elevator. His skills were impressive, perhaps even flawless. Next was the red-haired girl. The execution of her flight was far from the skills portrayed by the ice-man... To be honest, it seemed as if that was the first time she had used this power. She jumped down, using her abilities to levertate herself just before hitting the floor. After lowering nerself, she entered the elevator just like the other two.
John watched the other begin their way towards Titan, 'Is that his real name...?' John shrugged and jumped off, he assumed he make the jump effortlessly. But, he was a bit out of practice; pain shot up his legs.
He stumbled forwards, he took a deep breath and blinked. He stood straight, walked over to the strange elevator and joined the others. He shifted his weight in between each foot, trying to ease the pain.
'I have wings, why the hell didn't I use them?'
John looked at the others, a strange feeling of fear washed over him.
'I'm so going to get murdered.'
@-Everyone there, I'm too lazy to tag you all.
Titan was older than she thought. Pearl starting to doubt his capability to lead all these people, some of them seemed (very) dangerous. She watched as three of the people got into the funny looking elevator. The second person confused her but Pearl came to the conclusion she could imitate powers, she thought it was cool.
Keeping her mind back to the task at hand, Pearl realised she could make the jump. Since the human, or at least that's what he looked like, could make the jump with only slight difficulty. She was probably much lighter than everyone here and therefore could jump farther (and higher). She put her taser back in her satchel and shuffled back to get a running start. She made the jump effortlessly but toppled a bit when she landed. She took her taser back out and smiled at everyone in the elevator.
Hyjal rolled off of the container, landing and bouncing on the balls of her feet excitedly. "I get to meet Titan!" she whispered, trying to keep her hyperness in check. She hurried into the elevator and studied Titan for herself, feeling as if she knew what the others were thinking: He's a bit old; He's not as impressive as I thought; Can he actually lead us?
Hyjal herself thought the man could be quite capable. Genius didn't start with one's appearance, after all! But a flicker in the back of her mind told her not to drop her defenses; despite his age, Titan could prove quite dangerous. She clenched her metal hand behind the length of cloth that covered it, trying to ease herself into a calmer and more alert state. She focused on her breathing, and finally found herself calm. The excitement was still there, of course, but buried; while she didn't take on her 'business face,' she didn't spout everything out into the open, either.
Kain had become intrigued not only by the display of some of the people here, but also from the man titan himself. His age gave a bestowal of wisdom he himself knew that well. When prompted to head down the elevator kain landed gracefully onto the ground. His wings one second were there in mid air, and the next were gone when he landed. He walked up to the container simply walking down the path to the entrance of the elevator. He came inside proceeding to lean against the wall close to the entrance. His eyes Were a dark blood red color quickly glancing over the others before looking ahead. The scent from all the people here aroused his hunger. Some of the people here gave more alluring smells, but he could resist the temptation to feed for now.Patiently he waited for things to move forward.
Once everyone had entered the elevator he followed suit. There was enough room for everyone to fit comfortably. As they began their decent he began to speak once more. "I know what you're thinking. That I'm too old to lead you or you were expecting something more grand than the doors opening and an old man walking out to greet you. You have to remember that I was in my prime in the 1960's and, unlike some of you, I age the same as any other mortal. I use my technology to help me get around and am experimenting with microdots that can aid in maintaining my body. I'm sure only one of you inside this elevator is actually interested in that, however, so let's get to busyness. Way back in the 70's when Paladin was founded, it was a pure organization whos morals and ideals I agreed with for the most part. I disappeared because I was more likely to loose everything than any positive outcome. I always kept a few contacts on the inside to see how things were going. When one of them disappeared, I got nervous. His body was found three days later. It was determined to be a professional hit. The world looked for someone to blame, but no one except me contemplated Paladin. I began work on hacking into their system to plant my bug, but before I could two other informants disappeared as well. Once I hacked in I found some files buried so far beneath the surface that not even most of the workers could know they existed. In one of them was a hit list with some already killed. My dead informants were on that list. I saw my last informant on the list and warned her to be careful, but it wasn't enough. She was soon murdered as well. At this point Paladin had planted enough evidence to give public reason for raiding and destroying another organization and it went down in the books as a successful attack against an uprising villain organization.
"After some more research, my worst fears were confirmed. My former teammate Torgen had offed my informants. Some were once his friends. From that moment on I committed myself to taking down the corruption in Paladin. I have done some damage from within their own servers, but continuing down that path will only lead to my eventual defeat. That's when I started looking into you guys. You are all powerful enough to fend for yourself and others, yet anonymous enough for Paladin to have trouble tracing you; especially if I'm hindering their efforts." The elevator stopped moving and opened to reveal a large cave full of different vehicles and technology. Titan didn't stop talking for a moment as he walked out and approached a central computer station.
"In short, you can save the world from a threat it doesn't even know it has before it's too late. I have seen what you can do myself, but the rest of you don't even know each other. If you can learn to work together and, heaven forbid, trust each other then we have a fighting chance. My role will be more from the background. I am well past my fighting days and won't be joining you in the field." He sat down in the only chair surrounded by several monitors and various control panels. With the press of a few buttons some of the open floor changed. Squares of it rose up or fell down to create a dynamic field. "Feel free to play around and show off. Most importantly, get to know each other. If you are going to back out, do it now. If not, then remain silent."
-=(John Star - NY - HQ...?)=-
John looked around in awe, 'I want to touch everything.'
John slowly shuffled forwards, he looked at the others. John still was disguised by the illusion of blur, "So, who wants to show off with me?" John smirked and continued scanning the room.
He observed the strange command centre;
'Titan' seemed pretty familiar with this place. "Uh, Mr. Titan, is that you're real and full name?" John rubbed his arm, attempting to disperse the small goosebumps collecting on his skin.
The place was most certainly big, and definitely technology filled.
'How long has it taken to make this places? Years and years...'
John walked over to the complex technology enhanced floor, he cautiously stepped into the field. He walked in a circle or two; determining if he should back out. But, it seemed a bit late for that.
An uneasy feeling settled in his gut; with the night sky shining, and him not being under it, made him feel a bit ill.
John took another look at the other,
'Have they killed before? Are they somewhat human too?' Easily sunk into his thoughts, he wasn't sure he could trust them, let alone work woth them. They again, he was warned that he wouldn't be alone.
John stood in the middle of the field, he squared his shoulders and held his head high, attempting to make a good first impression.
@Shog, @Lord Anubis, @Garnet, @Trombone Geek, @Iridescence, @MermaidShireen,
Nat grunted. It was a mechanical wonderland - a lolly shop for the technology obsessed, sporting the bitter scent of metal. She couldn't help but slightly zone out of Titan's speech. He spoke like a piano reciting a beautiful melody - actually, it reminded her of the dramatic soundtrack played in a movie's climax. Somehow, although that frail appearance of his, she held some strange sort of respect for him. Maybe it was just that twinkle of hope in his eyes. It made her feel at ease, to be honest. However, not at ease enough to remove the tension that she felt in her muscles. Being a trained theif, she was always ready to flee.
Her eyes travelled to each of her fellow team members, examining their physical traits - those she could see anyway. The man had now finished talking, somehow just expecting her to reveal her identity, show off her 'abilities' and follow the team like a sheep. She walked along the polished, silver floors. Eyes narrowed, Nat spoke with a stern tongue, "So, let me get this straight - Do you honestly just expect me to throw away everything I have to join some sort of wannabe hero squad?" She scowled under her mask, her words slightly muffled, "I will not be a puppet and I will definatly not be a pawn in your supposed plans."
Her eyes ran to the man who had stepped onto what seemed to be the training floor. She wasn't going to reveal what she could do, who she was nor what she fought for. Anyway, not to a group that she's only known for a few minutes. Her lips pressed together into a thin line.
