WW Resistance (1v1v1)

"Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, the hero of the story steps up to the plate!" Axel called out, stepping down to a knee, placing a hand on the ground. With a slight rumbling, the earth around him erupted up into a higher platform, blazing with fire as it melted away, creating a platform-like block-shaped reptilian golem. Upon opening it's massive jaw, it produced a massive cannon-like barrel.

"
Vulcan Cannon, blast away!" He snapped, as the reptilian golem shot a mass of molten rock out of it's cannon at Lizzie. David however, would have none of this. He launched himself at Axel, seemingly levitating through the air as his hands glowed purple. Gravity based magic was his specialty.

Miniature splats of brown rocketed back and forth at rapid paces, Lizzie merely defending the onslaught of Cal's rage induced attack. Mid barrage, a bright brilliant green block went flying upwards, drawing Cal's eyes with it. Nailed the gollum headfirst it exploded out against the rock, sending a fun shower down on them below. As still hot chunks neared Cal, they seemingly disappeared through a shimmer, though she hardly took notice of those she didn't catch as her eyes locked onto David. Lizzie giggled at the blunt opening.

"Got you."

Cal had turned to launch a demon at David, only to have her head snap back on impact of a ball the was quickly dissolving. Lizzie giggled again, chucking another ball at Cal though this one missed. Cal snarled, pulling forth a masked thing, bones poking through at strange angles as it tilted it's head at her. Gripping the hand it tilted back at her it launched Cal through the air towards David, following through the throw to take a swing at Lizzie.

Midair, hands appeared in the air as Cal flipped herself, running up them towards David until she was close enough to rip one of the hands out into another small demon and send it flying at him.

David chuckled as Cal began her ascent, his hands glowing a brighter purple. As she got within range, he pointed a finger at her, a blast of purple light flying her way. Should it connect to anything along it's path, that object would fall under a gravity 10 times stronger than it's normal gravitational pull. Simultaneously he made himself lighter, floating up higher out of Cal's reach.

Axel meanwhile, continued his relentless assault.

"
Cannon, keep up the good work!" He exclaimed, hopping off it's back as it fired off a shot of molten rock every 3-5 seconds. As he sprinted along the ground towards Lizzie, rocks formulated from the arena into his palm, creating four Vulcan Shells that crawled up his sleeve for a delayed use. Grinning ear to ear, he leapt up, the earth behind his feet shifting and a burst of fire propelling him forward at a high speed, directly for Lizzie.

Twisting herself with the hands, Cal let herself drop through the air. Mid fall, however, she disappeared completely. With a deep breath, she tightened her fist, gripping cipher tightly. Ripping back through she was above David, dropping down fast with her blade held at just the right angle.

Right in front of Lizzie, Axel punched forward with his right hand, unleashing a single Vulcan Shell hidden in his sleeve. The Vulcan Shells were small, but they pierced barriers and armor better than Axel's other golems. He was hoping that this first one would be able to pierce the strange green shields Lizzie kept creating. As he did this however, David grinned. Without having to know where Cal disappeared to, he looked down at Axel, and set him as the centre of gravity for the gravity affecting everything in the area except for himself and Lizzie. The Vulcan Shell Axel fired off was able to keep moving due to momentum, but the Vulcan Cannon he'd left as a firebase began to drag towards him.

Running her hand through the air, Lizzie kept moving herself back, generating herself up a larger shield that the vulcan shells hit. Defense, after all, was the best offense. Except when it wasn't, as the first ones shattered her shield, dissipating the matter back into the air, letting the other's coast through. Moving until she hit the back wall, she wrapped herself tight in a layer of green before pushing it outwards, sending a shock-wave of expanding and disappearing matter across the field.

Feeling herself shift in the air, Cal narrowed her eyes. David was pulling his shit again. Curling slightly, she gripped cipher one handedly, her other going out. A gruesome hand latched onto hers, seemingly from out of thing air, keeping her in place. It was then that she realized how close to David she actually was. A dark grin crossed her face as she let her body swing faintly, bringing her foot in a kick towards his head.

Axel glanced about, feeling as if gravity was getting heavier for himself, like he was being drawn into himself. Struggling to stand, he glanced about quickly before being knocked back by Lizzie's expanding matter. His Vulcan Cannon reached him, being dragged across the ground towards him, despite being extremely heavy. It dawned on Axel he must be the new centre of gravity, that was why it was hard to move and things were being drawn to him. Swallowing, he dismissed the Cannon, as it melted back into molten rock. Forcing himself back up to two feet with immense difficulty, Axel was about to create a new golem, but felt the gravity shift again.

David was playing with them.

David dropped like a rock to avoid Cal's kick, his own gravity greatly enhanced momentarily, and then gently hit the ground, as his gravity became almost non-existent for a split second. Pointing his finger at Cal in the air, she became the new centre of gravity. Axel flew up into the air, colliding with Cal

"
Ugghh!" Axel let out, the wind being knocked from his lungs.

As her foot missed, Cal was left swinging for a moment before she curled inwards again to avoid dislocating her wrist. She scanned the arena for something, anything to get David out of the picture. The sudden weight she felt before a collision with Axel was less than pleasant. Almost on instinct the thing holding her up gripped tighter, digging it's claws in to keep her in place. That was, until more of the arm started coming out, being pulled by Cal's new attractiveness.

"Shit." More of it seeped out, and Cal panicked. She didn't have enough left in her to mask the thing. She didn't need to see it to know it was huge. Without really thinking, she cut the rift short, her freefall taking miliseconds as she hit the arena stone floor harder than she would have.

Lizzie blinked, lowering her hands, waiting for Cal to do something. But she didn't, "David...."

As Cal crashed to the earth, David nodded to Lizzie, and cut his magic. Axel landed in a heap beside Cal, coughing and spitting blood from a split lip. Blinking rapidly, he shook Cal, perhaps a little violently. "Cal! Cal, are you okay?" He frantically asked, the panic in his eyes and voice all too chilling to any onlookers. Tybalt sighed in the stands.

"
I've seen enough from these two. You had high hopes for them, Yumi, but it seems they aren't quite as good as you thought." He chirped, standing up, his eyes seeming empty and emotionless. His grip on the scroll tightened.

Yumi's folded arms seemed tense watching the fight. She knew she had been asking a lot of them, but she considered their loss t heir punishment for their badmouthing when it happened. She had no doubts they would be able to be on par with two fully rested mages a single level below them when not on full, particularly at a location disadvantage.

"My thoughts are correct, you just lack an actual insight." She said as simple fact as she stood. With an odd sort of finesse for a woman of her age, she moved down to the arena, not bothering with the stairs. She glanced at Axel, before motioning him back. Looking at Cal the unseen appeared to her eyes. Medical charts, temperature readings, brain scans. She was breathing, at least, just out. A voice seemingly whispered in her ear and she nodded.

"David, Eliza, Axel, Tybolt, you're all dismissed."

*two weeks later*

Standing in front of the door to Cal's room, Axel swallowed. She'd been pissy the last week, after Yumi's stunt of forcing them to fight David and Lizzie. Neither of them had been at their best, so their loss was understandable, but to Cal it probably just hurt her pride. Axel sighed, thinking no, it wasn't her pride that was hurt, she was just really mad with Yumi.

So the fact Yumi was sending the two of them out on a reconnaissance task probably wouldn't sit well with Cal right now. Opening the door slowly, Axel poked his head into the room.

"
Yo, sleeping beauty. We've got work to do today." He piped up, wary of the potential projectile Cal would undoubtably launch at him.

Cal looked towards the sudden source of light in her otherwise pitch black room. In truth, if she had a sure sense of a throw-able object, she would have launched it. But since she wasn't quite positive on anything but where her body and the bed was at this point, she wasn't going to risk throwing something she actually liked to get her point across.

"Someone does, at least."

"Hehe, about that.... It's actually a mission. From Granny. We can't really say no." Axel explained, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. He doubly braced himself for the projectile, because if she hadn't thrown it at the interruption of her sleep, then Cal was definitely going to hurl it at the revelation of that piece of news.

From what he'd heard from Grandpa Corono, Axel knew it was supposed to just be a simple reconnaissance mission. An area in the Bermuda Triangle was showing spikes of magic. Strange, slightly foreboding, but it would be their duty to check it out nonetheless.

"We can say no all we want. " Cal retorted. But she had swung herself up to sitting all the same. It was really no use sitting here under self imposed lock down when really, when she could fuck with the great witch on an external scale. Where she couldn't do anything. But at the same time, that wasn't much use either.

Opening the door further, Cal ducked out into the hallway, the light nearly blinding after so long in the dark. Forcing her arms through the sleeves of a jacket, she didn't even look back at Axel.

"Where are we going." It wasn't much of a question, nor was it pleasant.

Axel scowled.

"
Somewhere in the Pacific. Can we just get through this one without underhanded jabs at Granny in the brief and during the mission?" He suggested, catching up to Cal's side and walking beside her, slightly behind. He let her lead. It was a normal occurrence, Cal walked with such dominance and purpose that Axel just found himself a step behind, as if he were following her.

"I guarantee nothing." Cal retorted. Shoving her hands into her pockets she registered what one she had grabbed. Dark green, hooded, plenty of pockets. Had the single pack of cigarettes she's ever owned in it that was only missing 3 cancer sticks. Lighter was in the breast pocket. Interesting how her blind choice was the one she would have been craving for. Winding her ways through the halls and buildings, she lead them to the send off spot where someone would be waiting with a brief.

Reaching the briefing room, Axel and Cal sat down, Grandpa Corono already having been waiting for them. No sign of Yumi, that was good. Cal might not fly off the deep end quite yet, Axel mused, rolling his eyes. Corono caught Axel's gesture, and shook his head momentarily.

"
We're sending the two of you to a secluded island in the Bermuda Triangle. Always a magical hotspot, it's acting up more than normal. Your mission is to ascertain what's causing it, and report back. Nothing else, understood?" The old mage explained to them, time having worn down on his features. Gone was the moronic grin of old, replaced by a neutral stare as he leaned upon his katana like a cane. His old muscled ached with battles of legend to the Resistance's community, and it was whispered that maybe second to Yumi, Corono was the strongest mage alive. There were debates sometimes about who would win between the married couple.

Axel nodded his agreement to the mission, clapping Cal on the shoulder. "
See, easy peasy. Nothing to it." He chuckled, as David, Lizzie and Tybalt strolled into the room. The air took on a cold feeling as they did, David's glare matching Axel's own as David passed, the three newcomers heading through the briefing room and towards one of the transport circles.

"
.... Where are they going?" Axel asked Corono once Tybalt's party had passed through.

"
A pre-approved research mission. Ancient magic doesn't discover itself, young'un. Now get going." The old-timer snarked, a slight grin crossing his face as he locked eyes with his granddaughter.

Cal's eyes locked with her grandfather for a moment at his last phrase. A question she really didn't care about almost came to tongue but she let it die before it hit her vocal cords. Axel was here, and the question could wait. Standing up, she rapped her knuckles against the table once, heading towards a transport circle.

"Well, let's get this show on the road." Axel chirped in a sing-song voice, skipping past Cal, making it to the transport circle before she did. Corono sighed. What was it that Yumi saw in him? Sure Cal was a loose cannon, but she could at least fight and she seemed to recognize the situation she was in... Or did Axel unsettle Corono because Axel still had that spark, that youthful energy? Biting his lower lip for a moment, Corono decided such thoughts were useless. He had work to do as well. Turning and using his katana as a walking cane, he left the briefing room.

Axel played with a few edges of the transporter circle, a grin on his face.

"
Quickly, my dear, to our island paradise!" He shouted, the circle beginning to glow.

"Can you not?" Cal muttered as the light flashed forward, dumping them on the outside of a wooden hut that had withstood the test of time well. Around them was a variety of greens, from deep violent ones to ones that seemed iridescent, it screamed nature untouched. The change in heat was also a factor Cal wasn't exactly prepared for. You go all that time feeling perpetually cold to bam, actually wanting to complain about being too warm. Who would have thought.

Of course, that was just a foot note to the plumes of smoke that barreled across the sky in an an aggressive black death cloud.

"Oh my fucking god... Grandpa Corono actually sent us to a volcanic island. There's a volcano here. I'm sorry. This is just too cliched. Like... I can't... I don't even know what to say. There's too much to say!" Axel began, overcome by the situation. His grin was from ear to ear as he chuckled to himself, trying to decide what joke to go with as he and Cal began walking through the jungle, towards the plumes of smoke.

Sighing, Axel did feel something.

"
This is the real deal, though. I can feel in my bones here... Something's up." He muttered, interrupting his musings about jokes and one-liners.

"So don't say anything." Cal offered as they cut through the brush. Cracking her knuckles, she ducked under a tree that hadn't fallen all the way down, pausing for a moment as the earth shook with a tremer. Looking at Axel, she rolled her eyes, "We wouldn't be here if something wasn't."

Nodding sagely, Axel glanced back at the transportation circle. He noticed that there were two sets of footprints leading from it, and one was the footprints of himself and Cal. His jaw opening slightly and his head tilting to the side in interest, Axel grabbed Cal's sleeve.

"
Look at that.... We have company. Fresh company." He pointed out the tracks, feeling oddly nervous about the sudden development to the situation. Shaking his head as he turned away, back towards the volcano, he rolled his eyes. "I hate to sound like a movie, but I bet whatever we're looking for is in the volcano..." He noted, stuffing his hands into his jean pockets with a touch of moodiness.

As they arrived,Yumi wasted no time in ripping them a new one, though Silas had a hunch it was born more of worry than anything else. She probably saw the news. And when Axel started firing off smart remarks,Silas took a few steps away from him,as if to say "It's all him." When Yumi left,Axel and Cal followed suit, leaving Silas to his own devices. Yumi'll get me when she wants the debrief. Time to see R&D.

Silas left the portal chamber, and wound his way through the Sanctuary, until he arrived at the R&D labs. Withdrawing the Bottomless Box from his coat,he called out, "Jeanne! I got something for ya!"

Without looking up from his screen, Jeanne nodded his head. Pointing towards the counter on his side he motioned for whatever it was to be set there. Reading through a whole lot of data on an almost daily basis had gotten Jeanne rather accustomed towards splitting his attention in two different places.

"Whatchu got for me, babe?" He tossed out as a tease.
