Kaitlyn Williams

Her little blue eyes were still terrified from everything. She was far from her home, her animals, and her garden. But not from Timoteo... She couldn't even soothe herself at that time, but she then felt... a hand? She inhaled and exhaled many times before her heart rate was steady once again. She sat down and spoke, "well... don't let me stop you, let's go then." With that, she stood up and dusted herself off. She probably wouldn't even be able to sleep tonight, knowing there was such a being of that was said out there. Her face was slightly pale and not as sweet-looking as she normally would be.

Timoteo smiled wanly, unable to fully quell the feeling inside of him that he did something wrong. This kind of encounter in the forest was unprecedented, but he felt that he had made it much worse. At the very least, however, she was starting to calm down, her little chest heaving less and becoming less like a drum. Her response made him question things. Was it really okay to keep going to try to get her mind off things, or should they go back to her home? Even he had second thoughts about this place now that he had seen Jaga roam around the area.

Making a decision was difficult, but he concluded that the sight was worth it to see one last time for him and one first time for her. He hoped to show her this view around sunset, but that was a few hours away. Was time a luxury in that there was so little of it with a hunter roaming around the forest, or were they free to spend it as they pleased? Regardless, he felt compelled to go for both of their sakes.

"Let's go then," he absent-mindedly parroted. With one last look around the area, he held out a hand once more to help her over the tree and led on.

The trip did not take very long, but longer than the three minutes he surmised were left. The terrain here was more rocky than elsewhere in the forest, and as they climbed upwards the trees ahead were coming to a phenomenal stop. It was not a clearing, however. It was a drop-off. The ground gave way to a slate cliff which tumbled in a low arc into even more forest. Down below some water can be found, not deep and broad but little trickles that pooled, all of it fine spring water garnered from the rock cliff. Some small animals seemed to have gathered around it to drink from its cool, clear water, not knowing that they were being observed. The view, however, was phenomenal. A great expanse of forest lay before them and spread hither and yon in a sea of diverse greens. The overlying sun was steadily dipping into the west, slightly peeking from behind clouds, and below it lay the small steeples, roofs, and chimneys of Timoteo's little hamlet, Overgrowth.

As Timoteo brought her into the viewpoint, he smiled in the hopes of cheering her up and saying, "We're here."

Though Kaitlyn was still shaking by just a little, things were getting better along the way to the said place. She eyed everything they passed by on the way, curiously with her ears pointed upwards. Timoteo seemed he really knew where he was going as she watched just about, every motion from him. She would do a little spin in a circle, facing up to the sky to just the everything in.

Jaga, the horrifying man from earlier, was off of her mind. It was obvious she was better now; her eyes were their normal, beautiful, ocean blue. She then noticed the trees were coming to a stop up ahead that made her curiosity level increase dramatically. Her ears were tensed upward and her eyes were widened. She walked in sink next to Timoteo as they edged closer.

She then heard Timoteo say they were there. It was wonderful! “Oh my-“ she paused, her tail swaying quicker than usual. “Oh, Timoteo...” she tried to find words to describe such a beautiful scenery. “It’s beautiful!“ The young girl looked madly happy at this, as she took in every bit of it.

Watching Kaitlyn's reaction was just the relief Timo sought, the corners of his mouth upturned into a fantastic smile. She certainly seemed to enjoy scenery, much like himself.

"If you like it now, just wait until sunset. The light burns so brightly that you could see the canopy seem to burn a brilliant orange and red." He chuckled an audible note or three. "You are the only one I have shown this view so far. I wanted to show Esmere, but like I said earlier her legs are frail. I wish I could paint a picture here like on the village's chapel walls to show it to her, but, well, I have no supplies." He shrugged and looked over to her, the action seeming enough to snap him out of his funk. "I happened by this place by chance. I looked up and saw it from below. The spring water at the base of the cliff is wonderful, but the view here always makes me want to climb rather than go down below."

You haven’t shown this to anyone else?” She echoed, feeling somewhat special in the back of her mind. She then sat down with her feet dangling and did a closed eye smile to the sky. “I do wish your friend, Esmere, would be able to see this though...” she had sympathy weighing in her tone.

But the view... she had to take every bit of it in. She ran her fingers throughout her hair in silence, feeling it as thicker than usual. She was still changing into her Winter coat. Her tail was laid out directly behind her, slowly waving to and fro. She then glimpsed up at and him and gently patted on the ground besides her.

(I know it’s an early post, but I was online lol)

((Not a problem, and well written! I have to pause and read before posting, which is sad because I used to be much, much faster. I will try to post again tonight once or twice depending on when I can do so. Tonight I have plans with a group of friends that will occupy much of my time when it starts.))

(I understand! I'm in no rush! Also I've been wanting to post this picture for so long, but I kept having second thoughts. Warning: Slightly inappropriate...
ofc its her.jpg Credit to the artist!

((That is some excellent artwork, and thankfully it is pretty tame in my opinion and likely the website's. I was pondering the tail and thinking, "Is it a multi-tailed wolf? That's cool!"))

"Nope! Nobody else, and honestly I am glad of that," he replied, beaming.

He wondered if that was a bit too strong, though, considering he wanted to stay in the friend zone, for both their sakes. With her being as wonderful as she was and other factors atop that, he did not want to injure their friendship and felt as if he was walking on eggshells already. He calmed, however, when she offered a seat beside him. That was good, right?

Slowly he dropped his walking stick and approached, seating himself next to her with his feet also over the edge. His stomach lurched as he dared to peer over this close to the cliff's edge -- he was a bit acrophobic, or fearful of heights -- but he managed to quell the queasiness. She was able to do it so effortlessly, so he had felt the need to put on a brave facade.

"Well," he started with a gulp, "this isn't so bad." He was a terrible liar. "Um . . . so, Kaitlyn, you see those things out there in the distance, beyond some of those trees? That's my village. The tall, pointy one is a building I live nearby. It's small and square, but my family makes it a nice place to live. Esmere is to the left, and over to the right where the chimney and smoke is is a blacksmith. I do a bit of errand running for the blacksmith, doing delivery work when I have to be around. It does not pay much, but it helps keep my family fed."

Kaitlyn watched him seat beside her and smiled at him, softly. Her expression was relaxed and completely happy. She wanted to fall asleep again, but she didn’t want to miss a minute of this view. Blinking her eyes around everything he spoke about something overhead, that made her turn to see.

Yes, I see them,” she replied with her tail slowly moving barely any inches to each side now, at ease. She slightly pushed herself upward to see and would nod taking it in. His village? Well at least she knows he didn’t live too far. She then turned over her shoulder a little and grabbed her tail. Hugging it in her arms, just trying to get used to the size of it for the Winter. She crossed one leg over the other as she patiently awaited the sunset.

He probably admitted this to himself for several times now, but he really enjoyed spending time with her. Talking with her, relaxing with her, taking in her company and sight and sounds -- these things brought him a joy he did not feel in a while, and time passed by quickly between both conversation and silence.

As the day moved on, the sun lowered its fiery head and the rays grew longer, transforming the world into a redder glow lit by a brilliant sky where the clouds and open sky were every shade of red and orange. As the sun dipped beyond the canopy and as night fell, birdsong slowly waned and bats started to fly overhead in place of them, questing for food. There must have been a cave nearby, or at least a few hollow trees that harboured the leather-winged flyers. Fewer woodland creatures foraged for food, instead preferring to hunt in the day rather than suffer the scourge of nocturnal predators like the owl.

Timoteo very much enjoyed the scenery as it was bathed in a glow, but he commonly looked toward Kaitlyn to see if she was enjoying it, or perhaps to observe her in very literally a new light. Without a doubt, he assumed, the lovely girl would look amazing in a shade of red.

After much time passed, the sun sank and the few was so very astonishing. Her blue eyes had an orange aura from just staring at it, pushing herself up a little as if she were hoping the sun would stay that way forever. Her tail wagged quickly behind her as she was silent with such an amazing view. The bright orange and red colors bounced off of her pelt beautifully, making her face seem inconspicuous.

It’s so... beautiful... why I’ve never seen anything like this...” she spoke her thoughts right out. When the sun sank pretty much out of view, she relaxed herself and blinked. She turned over to him and whispered, “thank you.” She knew she had to thank him for showing her so much that made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Her cheeks a light pink shade as a seemingly painful wriggle erupted in her stomach. But she tempted to ignore it, which was impossible.

Seeing that Kaitlyn enjoyed the view as much as she did brought Timo much joy. His face felt as if it were stuck in a smiling position, and he turned away shyly when she looked back at him.

"You're very welcome!" he responded gladly. "Sunsets are way better with two people, aren't they?" He paused and looked at her discomfort and flush of her cheeks. He did not know exactly what it was, but it reminded him of hunger. "But, ah, I think we should get you back. You must be starving! I don't think you have eaten since we left . . . or maybe before that?"

That was a mistake to say and think, as his own stomach decided to do audible somersaults and gurgled rather loudly. Then came an even greater pickle than deciding on when to eat. In the low light conditions, he wondered if it was even possible for him to return with her to her waterfall abode and then come back to his village. He would have to handle the trek back very careful, especially on this partially cloudy night. What to do? What to do?

"Yes, they sure are wonderful!" she responded, her tail still swaying behind her. Embarrassed, she tugged her arms around her stomach and groaned quietly. "Yeah, good idea... I am starving," she stood up and her stomach howled within her. "Oh-" she whimpered falling onto her knees, tightening her arms around her stomach. Tears welled from out of her eyes painfully, her ears were pinned completely backward. She looked at her arm as she then noticed what looked like a snake bite. Her face turned pale and she passed out onto her side, unconsciously...

((Panic panic panic panic panic panic panic . . . !))

"Kaitlyn? Kaitlyn, what's wrong?" came from Timo as he flew to his feet, quite worried for her. She was clutching her stomach before she dropped to her knees. His eyes drifted to where hers went, and he caught sight of something that . . . looked like pin tricks but more sizable. Fang marks? Oh no, is that from the grass they sat on, or was that recent? Either way, it seemed rather painful and if her stomach was affected . . . then was there a way to help her? To save her?

She keeled over, and Timo tried his best to break her fall. Unconscious? Oh no. He could not get any questions asked or answered. Time was of the essence.

He kneeled over her and tried to roll her over carefully, checking the wound a bit more. He was mostly uneducated by today's standards, but he did know some basic survival skills, including sucking poison from a wound. He only hoped that there was enough to draw the worst of the poison from her body.

He got started, and if he obtained any poison in his mouth he would lean left and spit it onto the ground. Snake venom was not poisonous except when it reaches the bloodstream or into the flesh, depending on the type of poison. If this did not work . . . perhaps the village would be her last bet.

She didn’t make any sign of movement nor sounds as she lie there. Her breathing shallow and her eyes shut, her face madly pale. Many minutes passed, it seemed as if her body were giving out as her chest barely moved anymore...

Her mouth was parted by just a little and her eyes seemed sunken into her skull. Which made it look like all of her beauty had faded from her. But she was slightly still fighting as she kept breathing. After longer, one would’ve given up...

Then, Kaitlyn gasped and her eyes shot open. She looked around, weakly and stared at him. “T-Timo...” she muttered...

Timo felt horrible at first, unable to do much else than wait after the drawing of poison from the wound did not seem to have much effect. He felt that he got some poison drawn from the wound, but it was already working its course through her. As time moved on, she became more and more deathly pallid and her breathing slowed. His hand wrapped around hers as if to bring her back from the valley of death, and when all seemed like it was impossible to see her recovery she let out a conscious gasp. She was awake. Did that mean she was okay?

"I'm here," he said, gripping her hand tighter. "It looks like a snake bite, but nothing too horrible. You have an amazing constitution to burn through the venom this quick."

He licked his lips in worry. Once again, he was a terrible liar, but he tried his best to maintain an aura of comfort as he tried to lock eyes with her and smile down toward her. Truth be told, he had no idea whether or not she was past the worst of it, but he chose to believe that she was.

"Just try to stay still and awake. I'll get you back home safe, just maybe not tonight." Timo looked down toward the village. "I might have to get some blankets and supplies if we stay here. The air here gets cold."

She sighed weakly with relief that he had not left her at her lonesome. She now had full trust in him, staring back up to him. Her heart beat was still slow and she felt hungry and weak at the moment. Though, her appetite was pretty much gone, but she knew she may need to eat sooner or later. Her fur was cold and pale from everything, her body still trying its hardest to recover.

Even her ocean blue eyes were darkened, they looked more gray than their natural glow. “I understand...” she gapped her mouth trying to find words. “Though... I am very... c... old...” she spoke with a husky tone, exhaling and inhaling. She groaned still trying to fight off her pain they was spreading throughout her body. She tempted to squeeze his hand as she groaned, but it was a very light squeeze.

I...” she lost eye contact for a mere moment as she looked down at her legs. “My... legs feel... so very... numb, Timo...” she screamed after she spoke those words. But after some time, she seemed like she had soothed. Seeing her like this was awfully sad, since she always looked so innocent and extraordinary...

Timo frowned as he watched her fade a little more, her expressions and body language revealing a lot of pain and the sensation of cold. The lack of presence of the sun definitely made the air cooler by a number of degrees, but the chill would be greater. He could not leave her like this, not the friend he just met and yet enjoyed the company of, but what was the only other option. Body heat? There was no way that could work. She was hurting, getting cold. Was it really a good idea to keep her out in the open? He would have kicked himself if not under scrutiny, wishing he had brought his flint, but with the village being so close perhaps the best bet would be to leave her for a time and come back in all haste with supplies in tow.

All right, he made up his mind. He needed to be fast, and then she would recover, but who to ask for the supplies? Not his parents for certain, and getting anything from them would cause alarm. Well, he could always ask Esmere and her parents, especially with the promise to pay them back. They never seemed to be hurting for income or food, were always nice to him, and he could recall some spare blankets. Yes, going there would be optimal.

"I will get the fluffiest quilt I can find," he said, squeezing her hand alongside her attempt to do the same. The poor girl was hurting bad. "You will pull through this, Kate, and I will be here helping you get better. Your legs are fine. You just cannot feel them well. That is part of the poison.

"I must go for now. Try to rest. I will be back soon."

He fought the urge to kiss her forehead -- really, why did he even think of that; perhaps because she was dear to him? -- and instead cupped her hand within his before slipping off into the growing night, lit by a waxing gibbous moon.

((The rest of my post will have to wait for tomorrow. Would you like to post again for Kaitlyn in the meantime? I want to post a bit for Esmere and family, but that will be long and may have to wait for a few days. I will post next time for when he comes back with items in tow.))

Her breathing was heavy and she let out a faint cough as he spoke to her. “Go ahead...” she wheezed and groaned again. Try to rest? She seemed somewhat puzzled in the back of her mind. She wasn’t even comfortable at the thought of being left alone in this unknown part of the woods to her. But she knew she had to pull through this.

She watched him leave with some slight hesitation. All she thought was: “please be safe”...

(All right, sounds good with me. The post is short because I’m about to go to sleep lol)

It took an hour or so of clambering and rushing through dim terrain, but Timo made it, returning with a thick bundle over his shoulder of what seemed to be a large red quilt, as well as a waterskin and a cloth wrapped around something small and boxy in his other hand.

"Kaitlyn? I'm here," he uttered in the dark, setting down his supplies. "I brought the biggest one I can find. Well, the only one I could find, but that's okay."

He did not hesitate as he approached to swing the quilted cover over her from the neck down and tuck the folds beneath her to keep her warm. Timoteo smiled down at her wanly, hoping that she did not have too difficult a time in the cold. Next he offered her some water from the waterskin close to her mouth.

"I have some water here, as well as some cheese and bread. They should last us until the morning."

Honestly, he did not know how to handle this. Should he bring it to her lips? But what if the water was too much for her? He paused for now until she gave him some directive as to what he should do.

She had her mouth parted for oxygen while he was gone to fetch some things for her. She couldn’t help but faintly smile at the thought of him caring so much for her, she also cared for him. She would’ve definitely wagged her tail, but she couldn’t feel anything waist down.

She smiled weakly as he had returned, “you’re back...” her tone was low and hushed, her throat also in some slight pain. She did a closed-eye smile when she was given the blanket, soothing her cold feeling. She parted her mouth for the water with an eager look on her pale, weak face. She had leaned up with some little support from her arms for a mere moment to drink some water without an issue. She indeed was a fighter.

I don’t know how to thank you... enough...” she chuckled, with a raspy tone in the back of her throat.

Her capacity to fight back the pain was astonishing. What a remarkable person he had come across, he thought to himself. With a smile, he gently placed the waterskin to her mouth and squeezed at the base, allowing a fair amount to flow onto her tongue before he retrieved it.

"You can thank me after you make a swift recovery," he replied, laying the waterskin on the ground after corking it and breaking off a morsel of cheese and a chunk of only slightly stale rye bread. "I only wish I were able to give more."

The cheese was mellow but tasting sweet from apple slices mixes into it, hardly aged and seemingly fresh from the market. The bread was crusting but still blended better with cheese than water.

"How are you feeling? he asked afterwards.

Kaitlyn Williams

Her face had begun, after some time, began to get its natural glow again. "No. No, this is enough for me. You've done plenty," her voice was also beginning to sound calming and not as raspy as before. She slowly reached up a hand and gently caressed his cheek with a sleepy look in her eyes. "Thank you..." she said, as if she was to say it again but hadn't. She pulled her hand back down onto her chest and smirked.

"I'm feeling much better... just... tired..." she yawned, rolling over onto her side. And of course, she fell asleep again within seconds. After some time her legs began moving in her sleep and her tail lightly thumping against the ground. She looked awfully comfy and cuddleable. Her body was healing over time, as her face somewhat had its beautiful glow once again.

Timo watched as she slipped off to sleep, a smile on her face all the while, his face flowing from expression to expression with thought. He was very glad that she was recovering, but something bothered him: he was falling for her, and hard at that. Her personality, her smile, the softness of her looks and the strength she carried -- he admittedly did not know her very much, but he was eager to know more, to drink in her speaking of what she liked and why. This was an issue, was it not? It felt like one, especially considering she probably had no idea. If he brought it up, what would he say? What would she? What would his parents think? A torrent of thoughts flowed through his head, and continued until he halted it only by rising to his feet.

He paced furiously nearby, but far enough, he hoped, to not disturb her. This was all unnecessary. He only helped to stabilise a friend to good health and that is what she was going to think. There was no need to complicate things. But . . .

He sunk to his knees and sat with his legs crossed. He had to go to bed if he wanted to take care of her and return to the village if she made a great recovery. He had to earn his keep somehow, and he felt compelled to help Kaitlyn and to be a good friend. His emotions were not needed in this situation. There was no need to bring them in only to cause more harm.

Lying back with his head and arms above a tree root, he looked up at the constellations that peered down at him until he too fell quickly asleep. Dreams came fervently and feverishly to him, full of imagery, but even more so filled with Kaitlyn.
