Viewpoint What is one thing you wish to roleplay, without getting judged?

Star Wars . . . but I don't know enough to RP Star Wars and I just want to make shit up without having to research because I'm lazy. I know "enough" I think to kinda get by but star wars fans are scary and like I know I don't know enough to satisfy a hardcore fan.

I wanna RP ocs and do shit like master/padawan, jedi/bounty hunter, and like not worry about being accurate or upsetting my partner . . . I mean I once had someone tell me I can't do master/padawan because jedi don't do romantic relationships . . . and I was like bruh I know that isn't the point! XD

Anyways I would love to RP using Star Wars as my base without judgement from hardcore fans!

Honestly, I haven't really RPed anything Star Wars related for the same reason. I just don't know enough about the extended universe's lore to really portray it accurately. Like, I've always thought a JedixSith or JedixApprentice, or something would be fun.

Talking of Star Wars, i've had similar experience in other sci-fi themed RPs. Star Trek and Warhammer 30k/40k are two very in-depth universes with a never ending expanse of lore that I absolutely adore but finding someone with a equal amount of knowledge as my own is very difficult. I don't know -everything- there is to know about either, so I wouldn't fit well with someone who lives and breathes the lore and I would struggle somewhat with someone completely new to it. It's quite interesting, to me at least. An individual can have a specialization in a particular area that someone else would have next to no knowledge about, the lore is that vast. - Yet they're both fans of the thing itself, with two very different experiences and viewpoints.

About how I am. I have watched all the movies. I have seen almost all of clone wars (in the middle of a rewatch), I ADORE The Madalorian and I played SWToR. I love the idea of Jedi/Sith too!

I think because I am in it for romantic based core plots that in general I don't feel like its something Star Wars fans like. Plus a lot of SWFans are men and I don't particularly enjoy RPing with male rpers! So that is another deterrent too.

Yup. I find I don't consume most media to the degree required to be part of fandoms in general. I usually don't care much about figuring out lore beyond what is feed to me via the core show/movie I am into. I like the characters I get into their dramas, but lore I don't care really . . . and that is why I don't RP fandom at all or participate in any fandoms.

Most of the lore in The Mandalorian that I understand is thanks to my brother, who is really into the SW lore and he fills in the gaps when I don't know a reference. He's really the only reason I understand most of the subtle references in The Mandalorian.

An aside for The Mandalorian : Which speaking of, I find The Mandalorian to be my all time #1 favorite Star Wars pieces of media. I really enjoy the extension of the universe it feels more lived in, you meet more of the people rather than the heroes. The movies and other star wars shows are so centered on the jedi and sith that the worlds and the people feel secondary. I feel less like that with The Mandalorian and it makes me want to RP in the Star Wars universe because there is so much more to it than just Jedi and Sith and their politics.

I digress. Either way I want to RP Star Wars without RPing Star Wars. And I think that is why I just RP generic science fiction and fill it with whatever the heck I want, cherry picking from my favorite scifi media and putting the themes and ideas I like into my RPs.

I'm super into crossovers and isekai. I always liked the idea of a fandom roleplay where our OCs are whisked away from the real world into a fandom universe.
Also, nekos. I used to love playing a neko, but they're not really considered cool in my circle anymore lol! Tbh admitting that embarrasses me a lil...

Hey! I'm new to this thread, so hello, my name is Vynia (or Vyn). And I can get how admitting you like nekos might be embarrassing. A friend and I were actually super into hybrid universe type stuff, even with the whole nine yards of keeping ears and a tail. It actually worked out really well because we clicked unlike how other rpers might not. There's also the deeper aspect of a hybrid/animalistic attributes world. If done correctly, it'd be so fun to explore how animalistic elements shape the society of that roleplay/story! Like how public fights might be a little bit more normal due to territorialism being a stronger trait within everyone or like stereotypes (rabbit hybrids being naturally more afraid of heights, hyena hybrids having strong pack mentality, feline hybrids [save for lions] being generally cold and solitary). I think it's fun to think about.

And this might be a pretty far cry from nekos, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents since you reminded me of how much I like the idea of exploring a hybrid alternate universe LOL

There's also the thought that it's hard to find someone to request doing this with because they automatically assume you want to rp furries 😭 I don't have anything against furries and they have a generally very kind, nice, and professional community, but I'm personally not into the full-body fur or anthropomorphism deal.

I personally don't think there's any issue with portraying real life religions. I have dealt with all sorts of real world religious and political themes in my own writing.

I also really like the idea of portraying real-world religion in my rp or story. I'm currently on my journey of being a complete and wholehearted Christian and I'm very happy on this journey, but there are a lot of things in the world today that the Bible says Christians shouldn't dabble in (like witchcraft and the existence of other gods, which are very apparent elements in roleplay). I personally like to steer clear of those things, but I do adore fantasy. I've been looking for someone who wouldn't mind saying that our characters have powers but said powers are given by God instead of some other deity or from the earth or something. It's just what I'm more comfortable with because of my spiritual beliefs. And no shame or hate to those who roleplay/write or even worship/believe in those things in their daily lives! We're all human and have free will to do what we want, especially without judgment from others. It's just what I'm more in tune with is all.

Anything in first person pov.

I've tried it out a few times, but never felt comfortable enough to do it consistently.

I generally only do 1 x 1 roleplays in first-person these days! It's honestly super amazing. You should give it a try and if you're down, maybe we could rp together.

VYNIA VYNIA

You know, I may just give it another try at some point! It's incredibly fun and I love the level of immersion and closeness it offers.

I'd be down to RP! I'm currently taking a brief hiatus for a couple weeks or so, but maybe after we could do something.

So how does this approach work if you play multiple characters? Say two or three?

in my head I have an idea, I'm not sure how enjoyable it is in practice . . . I usually play two or three main characters in most of my games and I sort of like this idea of trying first person narrative. I'm just not comfortable only playing one character the entire time, never done it outside of table top and live chat RPs.

Plenty of my own writing I do in first person, but in RP I get a weird self-insert vibe from it. I'm not a fan.

This too. I'm rarely only writing one character. I always have plenty of side characters.

I understand that. It can be difficult not to let one's own authorial voice bleed into first person, and that can come off worse in roleplaying.

As far as playing multiple characters goes, AnnJam AnnJam admittedly I don't see it working out too well (if one is planning to have multiple characters that all use first person, that is). They'd need to have very distinct voices. Otherwise, it runs the risk of all the voices just blending together and making it hard to tell who's who.

On the rare occasions that I've used first person in an RP, it's with the knowledge that the character is either going to be the only I use, or that every other character will be roleplayed in third person.

I approach first-person roleplaying as writing a story. It's basically like I'm the author of a novel. My friend and I roleplay in first-person and we just approach side characters as exactly what they are: side characters. If you're trying to do first-person omniscient, it would be very weird admittedly, which is why I don't do group roleplays in first-person. There's too many characters for the roleplayer(s) to separate the voices well and continuously. I imagine OCs would begin to blur together.

If you're more of a person who likes to give intel into what everyone is thinking (aka if you prefer that omniscient storytelling), third-person is definitely much better for you. I'm cool only roleplaying one person and then just writing how that one person interprets what everyone else around them is doing because I really like to delve deep into my character's psyche. I have an OC who I've developed over roleplays for the past nine months, so I don't get that self-insert vibe lol. She's too different from me (although a lot of her morals are similar to mine).

First-person roleplaying also wouldn't work for doubling. I haven't doubled in a very, very long time (not since I started rping five or six years ago). Third-person would be better in that case.

"one thing to roleplay without judgement?"
I am going to take your individual question, throw it over the top, and instead present two. Both dark, one just character being, the other far more interesting.

A Danganronpa game would be cool. It is all encompassing and interesting to interact and develop with. So perfectly normal human being can end up in the mere presence of the morally obscene, robots, fakers, the cripplingly-yet-physically-active depressed, the absolute useful idiots, the mentally obliterated husks, happy-go-lucky, and random serial killers. For the former, you can detail a mentally broken and suicidal husk and develop them into a more positive life. You can take a mentally tough character and throw five million different negative acts at them and see what happens. And you can still keep the making friends, loss thereof, challenges, and even have a sad sacrifice. (The trope of a bad guy, mentally broken but then resecured, or the self destructive suicidal depresso espresso redeemed but end up sacrificing, or worse, being elected to the death or suffering to help out another. Made even worse if the would-be victim saved ended up plotting it out and using their injury or death as a tool to continue evil.) I'm more interested in the dark, annoying, miniscule, and even psychological factors of a person regardless of if they're human or anything else.

And for a war story, it could vary from trying to be a logistician or quartermaster trying to keep up demand in a desperate or losing war, or developing characters to fight on for ultimately no result and all their actions or losses was a futility that would never be remembered even if they survived. Such as an entire division forced to assault the Frontline and breakthrough, but end up encircled and have to go deeper to survive. As they dwindle, perhaps the war expanded to their homes and they find a supply Depot to blow up, but the result means nothing and it's all lost by then or the enemy was already defeated so striking it equals nothing. And the only thing the survivors end up doing for the war is killing more people and destroying more vehicles, ultimately only reserved units and don't directly matter at the front unless the units there were already exhausted.

Basically a valiant act for seemingly nothing as they run out of ammo and fuel, and need to steal the enemy's supplies and maybe get volunteer services from a small town or village at times before having to part off with only few recruits or no one joining the unit. Then either they get captured, most die in a final stand before being saved or something, give up and surrender, a combination, or succeed in their mission. The story wouldn't be about heroism, or fighting against the odds, or the times that there is futility in war, or a hybridization of them. It'd focus on the unit as they proceed on if they do, and the personal slice of life development of them in times that there isn't combat. It'd be all about the light and dark theme combo as the "story" progressed, such as the short lived morale boosts, trying to retain cohesion, sanity, and morale, the characters developing in a variety of ways from mentally broken and traumatized, to finding positivity, some trying to give up, and some might straight up commit war crimes in an attempt to survive or spite the seemingly sadistic enemy surrounding them. All dependent on the players involved. Or a defensive war scenario that might change to offensive and vise versa, where the theme is similar yet more direct.

The second one is this. You'll see a similar pattern.

Going into any nation-based setting, genre, or just personalized fiction with no established way that certain elements work. Then doing fun things without being told I am not doing the expectation, or every single post has to be a interaction or at least 1 line interaction with another player anywhere in it. (I can handle it in a character RP though, since it's more strict and to progress you have to interact all the time. But any joke or personal thing has to be worked live and can be prohibitive to progression if it is nothing more than cooking, scouting, or verbal.)

Like my common thing to do for example in fantasy settings, is making up a magic, then using real life examples or compositions to give reference to the thing or character to begin with. Sometimes inventing things like water wheels through five pages or unrelated character development to get the money, then three designing the concept. Gun jamming, tactical and strategy level battles for one post, etc. Or in a magitech scenario, bumping a 75mm high explosive shell to the caliber equivalent of a 105mm, that can weaken on a shell to shell basis depending on what method is done with infusing the shell or if it built like that. Therefore making factory quality, or a magic user's enchantment vary like a real life percentage possibility and matter more to sophisticate production until a real 105 can be developed. A useful element for a trading state, or playing a magitech dieselpunk Poland with 50 years out of date technology trying to stall invasion so other countries can prepare or arrive in time.

That or a new weapon like AT is invented so I don't need to reallocate resources to make ghetto AT weapons, and can thus move them to better tasks such as logistics or battlefield support. That or evacuating leadership and assets over the border, and then helping another player as part of their army then repel the assault and retake my independence. Or in real life ones, list out detailed repair of weaponry and tanks, detail cycling in out supplies and units, time to travel before arrival, and taking either several posts or pages to do all that, so another player may choose to exploit that or not. Sometimes due to their play style, some details have to be one posted because otherwise the player will just keep marching and marching like a robot and not give me a chance, so oof. Anyway for what I want to do and not be judged on:

Now with the example out of the way: for what I want to do sometimes, just maybe sometimes even if in the same RP and for no apparent reason, I would like to get away with playing a zoologist with a side gig of annoying some neighbor with a rubber chicken choir blaring off in the night. Then having to detail the insertion of barking snakes into their swimming pool. All without being told that I am not roleplaying. The act of playing a role. And every role, even if the purpose is scenery or unrelated slice of life development, is important to settings that are not one offs, or is in a universe. Other times, I might like to play a orc economist, with slightly above average human intellect, an advice giver on the stock market as well as what to invest in, and can fit inside a space equal to a mailbox through the TARDIS method. A great wall with a posh English accent, and scares away gold-digging goblins from harassing tourists and citizen alike. And tops the day off by funding the suspiciously happy charity that wants to give orcs better education.

Beside the whole psyche thing, doesn't matter. As rule of thumb I usually just do not care for expecting things out me regardless of how I feel on my writing of it. And I don't tend to see problems with the detail I throw into every post by default. I'll of course care about things like portrayal of depression, but for the times I do something serious I'm more than confident I can do it no matter if it's at a true angle or under a form of exaggeration. Another problem is I don't want to do an RP and be judged for not wanting to do any romance with someone. Which seems to be a trend with character RPs albeit amusing. But I think for now, I'll just pray to the omnissiah in the corner for a bit, then I'll eventually deal with the muppets when I slowly get there in the next 300 years. I'm sure the character players will love the terrors of trying to see me write less than this basic wall. Not even discord is safe and I'm in a memorial-bond with it's character limit. I'm sure I can write smaller than this, so I'll have to keep training for the day.

for me, it's more like an obscure fandom i do not think anyone would be interested. growing up i was obsessed with the anime kodomo no omocha, because it's super funny and just, simple, kids having fun. but now that i'm a teenager, the anime doesn't really interest others my age, unfortunately. i'd love to one day to even gush about it.

I normally like RolePlays with Smuts, which a ton of people really don’t like. I understand though, what I really like to do in RolePlay is Age Difference and Incest. Ya that’s kinda frowned upon on human society, don’t get me wrong some people do like incest or age difference or a little bit of both.

Oh, I can see alot of people being irked via incest, the other I'm not sure the context but will presume things like a 18 going for a hard 95. The curiosity of written exploration is understandable.
What an absolute trooper.

Ngl, I have played characters in incestuous relationships. However, it was never actually part of the RP's themselves, but rather a side thing where they were or are in a relationship with a blood relative. Most recently I did it with a character who was pretty vile already in a number of different ways. He had the major hots for his sister.

Winx club (not live action)
Sailor moon
Danny phantom
Code lyoko
H2o series
American dragon jack long
Big hero six
Batman the series
[i would be looking for canon characters for these, though i would accept oc for sailor moon if it was platonic]

Anything and everything, lmao.

No, all jokes aside, I have really been wanting to do something with The Evil Within with a group, but I understand that the game’s a bit obscure, and quite hard to work with, considering it doesn't have a very workable story. That, and I haven’t played the second one, so I have no idea any of the things it reveals in there ;;
