What goes bump in the night

"I...think I can answer that one Tarakan." Vojta interjected. "What attacked you was a witch, but no ordinary witch. It was Baba Yaga, an incredibly powerful supernatural monstrosity. We were the task force sent to track and eliminate her, as we had been doing with other less prominent monsters. You've seen just why I'm so grateful that you tried to stop her when you did, as is apparent by the remainder of your flesh," his voice dwindling as he finished speaking.

Adrian seemed slightly taken aback. "Haha! Baba Yaga! This is insanity...how do you know this, Privrak?" He looked at Vojta quizzically.

Vojta sighed quietly. "Because I could feel her supernatural energies. Not physically mind you, but they were still there. It's a link that...that all supernatural beings have to some degree...We can feel the strengths and power of those who exist which are otherworldly. It's part of the same reason that I was an outcast during training...because I'm not completely human. I'm a quarter vampire, part of the lineage that spread from Vlad the Impaler centuries ago. I possess some of the strengths, and few of the weaknesses that normal full bloods have. I always assumed you knew to be honest." Vojta said whilst changing his gaze downward.

Adrian blinked in surprise. After almost half a minute of awkward silence, he burst out laughing.

"...Pffttaahahaha! I always knew you were an odd sonovabitch, but part vampire...you really are a strange one. Less than 12 hours ago, I was a KGB officer...now it would seem that I'm a one-armed secret agent, destined to fight all manner of 'impossible' creatures...surrounded by people who may or may not be human..." He wiped a tear from his eye, he was laughing so hard. "Hehehe, and the icing on the cake has to be that I lost my arm saving my partner, who turns out to be part vampire!" He slapped his knee, and laughed loudly and unashamedly. He smiled entertainedly at Vojta. "And ya know what? I'd do it again, too!" He jokingly gave Vojta a light shove.

Samuel's tension was replaced by incredulousness at Adrian's response. How could this guy be so...jubilant about this whole fiasco?! Samuel's eyes looked hard at Adrian, then to Vojta, and back. Finally, he cracked a small smile. To go through hell and have your world completely changed, and still laugh through it all...was he able to do that because he had someone he could call a friend?

A quiet smile came to Shepard's lips, though it quickly vanished beneath a professional guise.

"That is indeed the sum of it Adrian. Baba Yaga has been in our records since the founding of this organization over a century ago. Every time we meet her, her profile needs to be updated because she shows us some new trick we didn't know about previously. To even be alive after having met that creature in person is a feat in and of itself."

He paused for a second

"Anyone else?"

Samuel chimed in. "Our purpose is to combat the paranormal, yes? Will all of our missions involve such peril as Adrian here has gone through? Because I hate to be a burden, but I am no fighter. Surely there is work to be done that involves less...chance of dying horribly?" He seemed slightly ashamed at his question, but seeing as he has no combat skill whatsoever, he figured he might as well ask.

"You are expected to do what your skills allow. In your case, I would not send you to fight a creature such as Baba Yaga, it would be suicidal. Besides, that one is a very special case, and very few assignments would contain that level of danger."

Samuel nodded calmly at Shepard's answer, but his left hand betrayed his emotions: it was tightly gripping the arm of his chair as he tried to ease his fear. Calm down, he thought. Whatever danger I will face, at least I'll have somewhere to call home. It's better than living on the streets. His grip eased at the thought of having a place to live in relative comfort.

Geist tilted his head at an odd angle to turn on the mike hidden in his collar. " Sarisa hon, could you be a dear and bring a stretcher out here. It looks like our newest recruit could use some medical attention." He smirked as he made his way back to the conference room. He didn't want to spend too much time around that one just in case.

Neimi really had no idea what they were talking about; had she even ever heard the term "witches" from her family or since she had begun wandering the wild? For the first time, she placed both of her hands casually, but deliberately, on the barrels of her two black berettas. They tended to be her go-to safety blanket when faced with something new, though this situation was different and she actually did not feel like shooting anyone of these people. Her paranoia was sky-rocketing however. Could she really handle what they were talking about? She kept silent, waiting to see what more information she could learn.

"If there are no more questions . . . then I have one to pose to all of you. Helios, you may enter."

From the back of the conference room, a door that melded seamlessly with the wall opened. The man who entered seemed to be in his late twenties, though it was difficult to tell. He wore a thick black blindfold over his eyes, and the rest of his face betrayed no emotion.

"The PDA has need of everyone in this room, however . . . if you wish to turn back, now is the only chance you will have to do so. Helios can erase your memories of this place as well as what you've heard. When you wake up, you may go on with whatever life you held previously. If you choose to go forward, then we will welcome you with open arms. However, once you make that choice, you cannot change your mind. If you have doubts about going on, then step forward. Otherwise, follow me. I will give you as much time as you need, as this is not a simple decision."

Shepard gave a glance at Helios before leaving the room through a similar door on the opposite side. It was left open, waiting for others to come through. Muerte was the first to act, standing up only about 20 seconds after the commander had left and following him.

Neimi quietly stood and followed; this was a better option that going back into the wild. The last encounter with werewolves had nearly killed her. If not for being found by the PDA, she would be dead. So she could chalk this up to a life debt.

Adrian stood up with a determined grin. "This should be interesting, eh, comrade?" he said to Vojta, and eagerly followed after Shepard.

Samuel remained seated for several minutes, debating what to do. What could they possibly need him for...?

A woman was patrolling the beach when she saw the form of a man lying on the sand. Her green eyes narrowed; she thought all the new recruits were up in the conference room. She sighed and prepared to grab the figure and throw him over her shoulder. Might as well take him up there herself.

She paused when she noticed which recruit it was; she may or may not have perused the files of the new recruits.

"....Lucky." She sighed even heavier; she really hoped that he did not infect her with his "luck." Whatever the case, she slung him over her shoulder, not really caring if it hurt, and began walking up towards the conference room.

Pain wracking his body, he cracks his eyes open a bit. 'Well, at least the view makes up for the pain' and fades back into unconciousness.

Within the building, the elf known as 'Sarisa' ran into the woman and lucky. Her eyes widened slightly at the woman in the mask, but she quietly walked up.

"Haiku, I see you found our 'friend'. The commander asked he be brought to his office if he was in speaking condition, otherwise the infirmary. He seemed to wish to speak to him alone when he had the chance."

"...'friend'?" Haiku hmphed. "More like a walking rabbit's foot." She pinched Lucky's leg. "Hey you, Lucky, you up for talking or what?"

In response to the pinch, what looked like gray dust began to pour through Lucky's skin. venturing out, it extended in a cylindrical form, and, arcing around, pinched the woman where she pinched lucky. having fulfilled its self-appointed duty of defense and retaliation, it retreated back into the man's body

"....ouch." Haiku's face did not even register pain. "Sarisa, I think I'll just take him to the infirmary before I beat him into oblivion for doing...whatever he just did...." Not waiting for an answer, she walked steadily on towards the infirmary.

Geist was getting bored with his cat body. Time to change he thought to himself as he walked down to the room where he kept his bodies. Hmmmm might as well. He stuck the cat he was in back into its sealed container then left the body, donning one of the artificial bodies the PDA had built for his use. He walked surprisingly quietly back to the conference room considering his body was now solid metal. He had draped a cloak over his shoulders on the way out and pulled up the hood shadowing his face as he approached Shepard and nodded.

The life I lived? Vojta thought. Half of that was skulking about and the other half what I would be doing here. He nodded. "An interesting and new direction indeed Adrian." He said, standing and cracking a small grin as he followed the large russian.

Geist ghosted up behind Shepard and whispered in his ear. " The issue has been dealt with. by now the anomoly is awaiting you in the infirmery."

Shepard leaned backward slightly, watching the few people file in.

"Right then. You'll need to escort them through the armory then when we have their decision. Xans is expecting them."

He pulled himself back up afterward. The other thing that would need to happen was only with the assets of the group . . . they would need to meet with Leceel personally.

Tiki thought about Shepard's offer, seriously for the first time since she has arrived on the island. She thought about her old life ,and quiet mourned the death of her beloved bear. She could not allow what happened to her to happen to others. Standing up quietly, Tiki squared her shoulders and followed Shepard.

Samuel watched everyone leave. Not one of them had backed down...would he?

No. This time, he wouldn't run from danger. He stood up, hesitating for just a few seconds, and finally followed the group after Shepard. I hope I'm making the right choice, he thought. Either way, there's no going back.
