Other What Annoys You Most About TV Shows?

The comedic side of it, but that is the point of show business, explains why I don't really watch TV.

Unnecessary romance.
The only reason two people get together is because the show is failing so BAM two main characters that clearly don't suit one another get put together and get married. All they do is constantly fight or argue but they have a sweet moment here and there so it's all okay.

When the series keeps progressing even though it's already reached a point where I was completely satisfied with how things are going
i.e. The 100; half the reason I like the books more

I guess I'm also not fond of when something is rebooted but for a different age group, which completely ruins the image of the original for those younger generations who never saw the original cartoons and are instead being fed stupid stuff that's probably bad for a developing sense of humor
And yes
I am talking about Teen Titans Go!
And sorta the Ben 10 reboot

I don't like how it seems that every show goes from great to bad as it drags on and on. I mean sure there are some exceptions but there are so many shows that were only good in the beginning but later on (after a couple of seasons) just got boring or way too over the top.

Ordering a beer/drink at the bar, but then walking away, leaving it lonely and neglected. Stop this alcohol abuse!

Shows and even movies that, realistically speaking, there should be no time for a romance or characters to “fall in love”. A perfect example of this is any action show ever, it’s always A rescuing B and suddenly they’re lovey dovey. No development between the two, it’s just kissy time. Though to be fair, this happens more in movies than it does shows because of time constraints.

LGBTQ+ “representation”, where the characters are based entirely off their sexuality/gender identity. No real personality to them beyond who they like to bang, and then of course said character tends to wind up being killed off anyway.

Race “representation” where all the poc are killed off in the same episodes they’re introduced, and poc rarely ever being in a leader position, a ‘hero’, ‘good guy’, and so on. They’re very often either comic relief, villains, or characters so insignificant that they die in five seconds. (Part of why I love watching Black Lightning so much, tho I haven’t caught up)

Shows and movies that have a main female character who has some problems that are then immediately solved by their male romantic interest. I love that women are being cast as more powerful and influential characters lately (it’s a huge step forward), but once they introduce a man as their love interest it tends to go south fast. More often than not he winds up taking over and solving all these problems she has without giving her the chance to do it herself. It’s even worse because half the time the female is perfectly capable of helping herself in the first place.
It’s like writers are taking one step forward and three steps back.
“Oh A is a really independent lady who is strong enough to protect herself and others!”
-next episode-
“Oh and here’s her male love interest that miraculously makes her life better even though she’s perfectly capable of doing so on her own. :)

A lot of het relationships in shows tend to be extremely misleading and unhealthy too. If there’s even a single hiccup along the road they immediately break up and get together with someone else rather than talking about it. Infidelity is also an irritating but common occurrence, and lets not forget the sex scenes every episode.

I also find that often, when a male and female are cast as friends, they always wind up becoming romantically involved with each other later down the road. Like, has nobody heard of platonic, long lasting opposite sex friendships?

Then leaving food on their plate. You never really see them finish it. My OCD gets to me sometimes XD

Unecessary straight ships. Get your heteronormativity off my TV. I run a gay ass household and I don't want these cishet ships straightening up the place. (Obviously joking, but bad canon ships are frustrating)

I must say, I wasn't expecting such an amazing amount of responses. And while I'm not saying this is the last post, here but I'm glad I'm not the only who gets annoyed with mainstream TV shows and their commercials... I just wanted to thank everyone, who responded to this thread! I greatly appreciate it. It's nice knowing, I'm not alone somber lolzness. <3

  1. I hate love triangles with a fiery passion. We all know usually who it's going to be and depending on how gimmicky the writers, we all know the "unexpected choice".
  2. You know what? I hate romance in general, besides a very select shows. It's mostly dull and the show seems to center around it too much. I don't care! When I do enjoy romance, it's usually my own created ships which are usually an angst filled pairing.
  3. I hate forced diversity where you can clearly tell the character is there to fill the quota and appease the angry feminists.
  4. I am not into kid story lines, like Stranger Things is okay and all, but don't even get me started on TVD and The Originals baby storylines. It was stupid, beyond stupid.
  5. I hate when character development becomes inconsistent in regards to where the storyline is going. It comes off as lazy writing.
  6. When shows forget their own lore, like how the fuck do you manage to screw up that much?
  7. Those scenes where people are fighting and in between have to say something snarky (sometimes it works, other times, I want to flip a table because I am cringing so bad).
  8. I hate Reboots and Spin offs. They always suck ass.

I am sure there is more things i hate, but these were the first things I thought of.

For me it’s the sex. A show will do just as good without it, I want to watch it for the story, not for the smut

I hate it when a show has to rely on using the laughing soundtrack to make their jokes seem funny (I'm looking at you, Big Bang Theory.)

I dislike that Netflix has to have got-styled sex in most of its serieses, sometimes for no reason. Or doesn't fully explain the reason for the movie because there aren't enough strong hints in it to help you figure out what the heck you just watched. That's right! I'm calling out Hold The Dark, Netflix! (I recommend watching it if you haven't yet)

6. You mean Supernatural?

The most healthy straight relationship in a show I've seen is Gomez and Morticia Addams. All the others are toxic, abusive, or just terrible in general.

Haha, yeah. I like Supernatural, but I haven't been able to sit through a full season anymore since season 8.

Gomez and Morticia have always been relationship goals for me. I wish love like that was real.
