Rune Peterson

Rune simply couldn't get a grasp on the current events. It was like a multilayered puzzle, he had spent so long focusing on just one layer, having the rest revealed left his mind unable to comprehend. The complexity mixed with simplistic beliefs, Rune had to latch onto something to avoid going mad.

He was a wolf. This he could understand, for being in the physical form of a wolf was a truth that could not be denied, or avoided. He heard the soft woofs he could make, the thudding of a tail, the sensation of fur everywhere.

This was fact, he was a wolf. How this came to pass was on the edges of his consciousness, a brass ring one could always reach for, but very rarely grasp and hold close. Rune simply couldn't, so he focused on simply existing.

The world was even changing, Rune felt himself picked up, carried, tossed even, and worlds changed. Or maybe his mind did break after all. Maybe this was his interpretations of dreams, wishes, desires buried so long ago. Now they were set free as his mind broke like a rubber band pulled too tight, too long.

That was it. He must have slipped away from the sane side of the world. Well, if being insane meant he could be a wolf, and see this world with a new, wondrous vision, so be it. The wolf woofed, moved its legs and wagged its tail. Still not yet able to stand on its own, wolf-Rune yipped and 'talked' with a series of rawr rawrs.

Let's do this.

CEL'RIM O'WYNS.

"Cel' Rim?" A voice called out, it was friendly and seemed to question. "Cel' Rim O'Wyns, damn you took another day trip?" The questioning tone seemed to clear as the man who the voice came from stepped closer, confirming that is was Cel'Rim who stood on the steps of the archway.

Cel'Rim was quick to look up to the voice calling him, knowing it reasonably well, and smiling at the man with white hair who was approaching quickly. "Callum Lucius O'Bryn, you fucking know it, mates. Day Trips to mess with mortals is my entire time off work. The only real way to pass the time, 'cept this time was messy AS HELL" Cel' Rim sounded pleased for a start before expressing pretty distressed about the mention of a mess.

"Does the mess include this giant furball you brought with you?" Callum looked interested in Rune, looking down at him with curiosity. In the Otherside, everyone knew everyone pretty much, either by name or by the person. "Never seen this fella before, let alone felt his aura. Who is it?"

"Fantastic Question, my friend!" There was the playful tone again, Cel'Rim grinned as he kneeled next to Rune and softly patted his head. "This is Rune. It seems he's a wolf-shifter, but he was living his entire life in the Mortal Realm of Terra. Which is amazing, because his shifter aspect was spell locked. And for the real fucking kicker, it was spelled with old magic. Like, the old ass shit, that hasn't been taught or practised since we were growing up."

The mention of old magic always brought attention to Cel'Rim. It was his passion, his love, the one thing he never wanted to lose because it was nostalgic for him and reminded him of old friends. So, it was expected that the simple mention of it, caught the attention of the rest of Callums group.

"Dudes were going off again about the ancient magics. We get it Cel'Rim no need to get another hard one for the ideals." The voice was snotty, childish, but held the same hint of playfulness that Callum had had when he first started talking to Cel'Rim.

"Sorry Jule, you might have to speak louder, The distance you are away from me, and the height difference makes it extremely hard to hear from you!"

In the distance, anyone could see the annoyed being, named Jule. They were short, clearly vertically challenged, unlike Cel'Rim, however, that wasn't the thing most noticed first about them. Jule elegantly walked as they approached, their multicoloured hair, fell to their knees, and it was the tattoo's the shown on their legs. The elegant designs that sparkled in a crimson red. "Welcome back Ce'Rim; I see you continue to get a hard one for the ideals of the ancient magics. But, I will give you the props that it is rather amazing that someone was capable of doing such a thing. And now you," Jule began again, crouching down next to Rune. "You are beautiful. Even if its new to you, you look rather well taken care of." Jule smiled happily, slowly putting a hand up, and going to pat the top of Runes head.

"Yeah, thanks for that I guess Jule. So, yeah, this is Rune, he has no idea about anything of The Otherside of really what he is. And I've taken it up to help him learn! Once, I manage to turn him back into his humanoid form again. I know as avian just thinking of a form shift does it, but I've also had thousands of years of practice, and its been like an hour of him."

Callum and Jule looked up at Cel'Rim, and then to each other. There was a silence that fell around the four beings, as they thought about it before Jule spoke up again. "Why not just take him to the pack?"

"THE PACK?" Callum yelled. "For fucks sake Jule, the pack would eat him alive. They're assholes!"

"But they'd know how to help him! They've all been in this spot before, for their first change. I'm sure they'd want to help since it would mean another member. And one, that might sub-consciously know ancient magic." Jule shot back, rolling their eyes at Callum's complaints.

"Even then, Jule, we don't know if they will help. They'd smell him, see he smells like Terra, and then shrug him off."

"Yeah, but we also have Cel'Rim. Who would fuck with Cel'Rim?"

"Wyn did." Cel'Rim softly spoke before he looked down at Rune and spoke louder. "The pack is the best bet, they are the biggest group of wolf-shifters, and some of them have been around since ancient magic. So they could be the most helpful."

People always paint Cel'Rim as a robust and powerful guy. People often think to be scared of him, the Ancient Crow. Cel'Rim was strong-willed and fought for his life and what he has. He went thousands of years, building up what he has, doing the errands for the gods, and practising his magic to be as skilled as he was. But even still, he wasn't someone you should fear. Once, he was, but now, since Wyn. He was just second best.

Cel'Rim smiled at Rune. "C'mon we got a walk to the woods. I'm sure you'll love it." He gave him a small smile, scratching behind Rune's ears before starting to walk towards the west.

Heading west out of the rift square made the city-scape they were in quickly blur away, as the previously neon-lit, yet a grey area fades away into a lane of shimmering lights that peaked through tree canopies and the crunching of the leaves on the ground. The small giggles of woodland creatures could be heard, and even the glow of fae was seen. The Otherside was beautiful in itself, with the way all the animals melded together to create uniform and sections each were able to call their own, something preferably a fairytale-like. Within moments, the group reached a line in the ground. It was drawn and filled with some solid that smelled somewhat similar to dew after a storm. It was a strong aroma, which left new people to wonder how, since it hadn't looked like it rained recently in the Otherside.

A man stepped out from behind the line of trees and fencing that was behind the dew line. The man was not an Othersider, but he was a familiar Celestial. "Nikos didn't expect to see you here." Callum began, "Is it that time of the month again?" Nikos was a being that came from the Othersides Sister Realm, Celestine. The boy with long brown hair nodded before speaking.

"The pack thought they picked something up, so they requested I visit. I'm sure they won't mind you butting in to handle whatever you need to be handled. How are you fairing Cel'Rim?"

Cel'Rim shrugged. "I'm fine; tryna help out a friend here. Nikos this is Rune, Rune this is an old friend, Nikos."

"Old Friend in Deed, but despite my old age, my eyes still work rather well, so it's easy to tell the predicament you're in. I'll talk to the pack, and hopefully, they can help you out."
