Welcome To Shearport

"Shearport will be protected, and the forest too. I swear on my badge, won't accept no defilement."

Pledge of Protectorate

Mortal Emblem: This pledge is sworn on Lucas' badge, and if he breaks his word, he will lose all authority based on his status as a park ranger.

Greater Endeavour (-3) : Lucas swears to patrol the forests and protect the town. He might be honestly bested or tricked without breaking his oath, but if he ever abandons or shirks his duty, he done fucked up.

Boon, Adroitness (+1, x3, +3) : So long as he protects the town, Lucas is empowered to do so, gaining a +1 bonus on rolls using Survival, Investigation and Brawl.

Blessing (+1) : So long as he holds to his oath, Fate accords him the role of protector, and effectively grants him an extra dot of Status: Pork Ringer.

Poisoning of the Boon (-1, x3, -3) : However, if he shirks or abandons the town, or brings harm instead of safety, Fate will curse him and render him toothless, giving him a -1 on uses of those three Skills for the rest of the duration of his oath.

Duration, Season (+2) :Lucas reaffirms his oath with each turning of the season. Should he want out of the oath, he's probably going to have to wait a couple of months.

Question: Are we meant to be a motley at game start? I've been assuming not but it's good to be clear. Also, I know it's Fall at the start of this, but are we starting in September, October, or November?

Start of the school year! That makes me curious: Are there schools in Shearport, with innocent and unsuspecting children to bind to fairy bargains?

Neato! Another aimless question: Which Contract of the Elements would be necessary to be able to go out in the cold in winter without worrying about the chill? Water? Ice? Air?

[QUOTE="The Fuzz]HalAlexandra has no bacon, but also no character. Characters are not haram! They are totes legit!

I was so sure I had posted here already.

The last few days have been filled with paint and liquor. And also almost zero internet.

I would still love to take Sage for a walk; Autumn court Antiquarian running a little craft store I am lifting wholesale out of my childhood summer holidays.

I will post her tomorrow, definitely.

What's the timeline look like for us starting up, by the by? Are we beginning when everyone's sheets are done, or is there a specific date, or...?

Want to have everyone's character thread up and approved this weekend, and actual play starts once we've got that.

Hm... Looking through the character sheets, we've got a pretty neat group assembling. Oddly enough, since Grey is going Courtless, we've got a 1:1 ratio of Spring to Autumn Courtiers. Going to be an interesting thing to contrast; Desire and Fear. We've also got Charity as a nigh-universal Virtue, which makes sense for a bunch of Lost.

It makes the name "Black Lantern Inn" all the more appropriate; lanterns guide weary travelers in the dark, light is ultimately a symbol of hope and warmth, but black iron is a symbol of decay and world-weariness. Meshes well with the dynamics there.

I'm contemplating Lucas joining the Summer court, but oddly enough he could go Autumn.

Sooner or later a property developer has to have been chased out of the forest by the waldgeist.

EDIT: Hood is done, I'm pretty sure. Alexandra's character should be along in a couple hours.

Also, I was amused to find 1d4chan uses Batman villains to illustrate the differences between the Seasonal Courts.

If he went Summer Court, it'd at least keep with the theme; got to have a fire in the candle somewhere... Or something.

Also, because I am a relentless ponderer, I have to ask: How are tokens/hedgespun/hollows being handled, xp-wise? I know tokens are usually not charged for, unless super-awesome, but what about hollows? I figure we work for them via story, either way, but it's good to know if there's a cost attached or not.

Fuzz'll chime in full on this soon, I expect, but I very much remember him mentioning that you can pick up Merit dots of that sort by roleplaying and working for them.

I asked about it for Tokens, and he said what you said for that, but wanted to be double-sure about Hollows.

Ooh, ohh, @The Fuzz if Hood is courtless can I have his mien change a bit with the season, given he's a woodblood and all?

Hmm.

Sage's role is already entirely covered by two NPCs. This requires some re-jigging. Currently looking up new-age stores in Maine coastal areas. Dear god these websites are terrible....

Not sure NPCs filling the same role matters; we can't bring NPCs on adventures with us all the time, after all, right?

Actually, no need to worry about that. One of the NPC's who is listed as owning a general oddness and weird stuff plus tourist knick knack store is being....reassigned.

You should totally stick with your original concept.

Certainly. PMs incoming then; I just saw an opening within the player group and decided to use her to fill it.

Ok guys...

Just a note, I'm allowing each person to have a single item of hedgespun clothing for free, if you want it.

Pixel, Zach is owed another Specialty. Lucky you!

Axel, looks solid, tell me who specifically Sackcloth's Reaper Pledge is with? (I like it, by the way. Is very handyman.)

Risa, Lita is fine, just might want to work out a Pledge. That's not critical, we can do that once we get started.

Ragoza...ok, couple of things. O'Malley is owed another Specialty, in Athletics, Brawl or Stealth. He only has Brawl, but if you want, I'll let you take a 'shadow' specialty for a skill you don't technically have yet, which will activate when you take your first dot in that skill.

I hate to break it to you, but the second dot of Wyrd costs 16 xp, not 8. However.....spend three of your starting Merit dots to have Wyrd 2 at character generation. Then, out of the 8 xp you wanted to buy Wyrd 2 with, buy back your Fae Mount (*), Contacts (*) and Court Goodwill (*) Merits for 2 xp each, leaving you with, uh, 2 more xp than you thought.

Inari, Red looks solid, just talk to me about your Pledge, if you want one. Also, Eye For The Strange, where's that Merit from?

Grey, stick Hood's character sheet in his thread? Don't forget to spend your xp.

Aaaaand, that just leaves Alexandra, who is writing her character up as we speak.

I should have the In-Character thread open by tonight (Boston time).
