Dai followed him inside as walked to the island of the kitchen. At the mention of sitting and offering water her body tensed up. Memories from last time started to flood in and she pinched the inside of her hand to try and make it stop.

"Ah.. no its okay I'll stand.. just in case" she admitted while thinking of she sat down that would be more of an invitation for her to stay and it didn't seem like he wanted that, but then again everytime she assumed something about him it was wrong.

Her mind was made up now. He was here in front of her, he let her in and now the least she could do is tell him what was on her mind.

"I don't want water.. what I want is for you to tell me how you feel. I realized after I left that I might have misunderstood your intentions. Your..words.. or maybe I'm just holding on to hope, but right now I don't care I just-" she paused as her voice cracked. The lump in her throat was prominent, but she took a deep, shaky breath to continue.

"-I just want you to be honest with me. I wanted you to stop me from leaving, chase after me, but then I realized slowly that you're not that kind of man. That's why I'm here. If you tell me to leave I'll leave and I won't disrupt you anymore.. you can go back to work and not have to think about me just like you have been." Dai exclaimed while her hands rested on the cool countertop, hoping it would help ease her nerves instead of pinching her skin red. Her brown eyes didn't even look away from him since she stepped inside as she didn't know if this would really be the last time.

I don't want you to let me leave like last time, but if I have to I will..I'll suck it up. I've lost you once and I don't know how ill be if I lose you again. It's something I don't want to think about, but also it's something I can't avoid anymore.

"Also I..I hated how you made me feel, but I could never hate you..never. I need you to know that.." she admitted. Of course she didn't hate him. If she did die wouldn't be here. Dai waited patiently to see if he'd respond to her words. To see what really was in that mind of his.

At the crack of dawn, before any of the nonexistent roosters in the Vegas outskirts would even think to start crowing, the two trickiest troublemakers in the trailer park scrambled out of bed (if you can call an old stained mattress on the floor a bed, that is) and were excitedly chattering through their next big tomfoolery plot as they tripped their way over to the trailer’s musty kitchenette. Today was a big one: on Sunday, Lex had found an abandoned construction site out by the city limits, replete with piles of lumber and scaffolding and deserted vehicles just begging to be vandalized and misused by a pair of impulsive teenagers. Someone could come by to clear away the mess any day now, so there was no time to waste. It was time for Demolition Experts Lex and Leigh to get down to business.

There was no milk in the fridge for the fourth day in a row, so they resorted to wolfing down fistfuls of dry Cocoa Puffs straight out of the box; a practice that Leigh had affectionately termed “horse breakfast.” And if they got hungry later on their adventure, Leigh assured Lex that he had half a bag of sour gummy sharks in his backpack, and maybe if they were lucky they could steal some chips and apple juice from the Minimart.
Truly, the breakfast of champions.

Carter was probably at Ever’s, so there was no one to drive them, unless Leigh’s mom was willing to risk getting pulled over with her revoked license again. At the moment, old Adriana Fallon was passed out cold on the threadbare couch, dressed in only a man’s blazer and flannel pajama shorts, with her stringy bleach-blonde hair limply concealing her face. She smelled of alcohol, ammonia, and apricot spray-on deodorant.
Leigh hobbled over to the couch and slid one arm out of its crutch to poke her four times in the cheek, to which she did not respond, but Leigh didn’t seem to notice.

“Hey mom, wake up! Lex and I are borrowing the gasoline!”

Adriana did not awaken.

“We’re probably gonna blow up a forklift. You might wanna tell the neighbors or somethin’.”

Nothing.

“Fine. Don’t wake up. Whatever, Mom. C’mon. Lex, let’s go explode some crap.”

Though he tried to hide it, Leigh’s toothy grin had wavered a bit as he turned around to march out into the big wide world with his best friend. Though his mother had given up on the whole parenting thing long before he was born, it still stung to be blown off yet again. If only Carter or Ever were around this morning, or Dr. Charlie… not that Lex and Leigh weren’t both totally cool and responsible-like, but sometimes it was nice to have someone with a fully-developed brain around for life’s bigger problems.

Hayden's mind had been full of thoughts lately, contrary to his typical mindset. It was in his nature to go with the flow, let go of any worries, and just have fun. But life seemed to have different plans for Hayden right now.

The possibility of becoming a father loomed over Hayden, but surprisingly even worse was the thought that it was possible he wouldn't become a father. He was shocked by Ari's pregnancy, sure. They were both young, he wasn't expecting something so fast. But, there was a chance her child wasn't his. For some reason, that part didn't matter to him. Even if the child belonged to their idiot band member, he wanted to be there for Ari.

He'd offered to help out in any way he could, and right now that meant giving Ari rides to and from work whenever possible. Now, he sat in the drivers seat quietly next to Ari, who had her headphones on. He knew about her troubles with cars and made sure to give her whatever she needed to get as comfortable as possible.

All was well until the car jerked forward, causing Hayden's gaze to shoot up to his rearview mirror. "Fucking asshole," he muttered. The driver behind them looked rather nervous, they definitely knew they were at fault and felt bad about it. With insurance, Hayden was less worried about how this accident would set him back since he managed to lock eyes with the person who'd run into him and gestured to the side, indicating they could pull over to exchange information.

As he pulled forward and over, Hayden's stomach was in knots hearing Ari hyperventilate. He had no idea what to do. "Hey. Hey, Ari, baby. Just breathe, ok? It's all good. No one's hurt, it's fine," he tried his best to gently reassure her that the worst hadn't happened, but he wasn't even sure if she was hearing him.

Sam had only set foot inside a strip club twice. Neither of those times were his idea, he ended up getting dragged along by friends who thought it would be a good time. But Sam, he considered himself more of a romantic soul. Sure, the people dancing were hot, but he'd much rather sit down and have a long conversation with someone than pay someone to dance on him for two minutes.

But now, he found himself at a strip club, one hand occupied with a bouquet of pink roses. He wouldn't be here if it weren't for the enormous crush he'd developed on this girl he'd run into at a bookstore about a week ago. Scottie was lovely. Smart, feisty, really just the whole package. Sam was determined to at least make an impression, if not get himself a few dates with her.

Maneuvering through the strip club for a few minutes, he finally locked eyes with Scottie. He grinned and waved, tucking the flowers he was holding behind his back quickly. She was dancing, but he quickly and confidently walked up to her, ready to try and wow her.

"Hey. Nice moves you got there, gorgeous," he chimed with a wink, voice warm. "I brought you a gift." He smiled as he pulled out the roses from behind his back. "I hope you like them. I know I must look like a total freak, bringing flowers to a strip club, but I thought you deserved a little something."

Tobias leaned against the counter as he took in Dai's words, his face cold, as if he was made of stone. He blinked slowly a couple times, unwilling to display anything he truly felt. In fact, he refused to feel anything at all. This breakup was just another business deal. That's what he kept telling himself.

"How I feel?" Tobias asked, a hint of bitterness in his voice. "Dai, how I feel doesn't matter. How I feel has never really mattered." His tone was firm, he was used to denying his feelings any say in his life. He wasn't only talking about what had happened between them that night, he was talking about his entire life. He was a man made from logic, not feeling, or at least he tried his best to be. He didn't want that to crumble now.

"I'm not- I'm not going to tell you what to do. I'm not going to tell you to leave, but I can't tell you to stay either. That part has to be your decision," he sighed, clearly grappling with the weight of his words. "I have been thinking about you, by the way. I also hate the way you made me feel. I hate- I hate that you make me feel at all. No one else has ever done that."

Tobias stepped away, pulling a glass out of the cupboard and fixing himself the drink. He didn't really want a drink though, he just needed an excuse to distance himself a bit. He didn't trust himself close to Dai at this moment.

"I'm not making you give up you job," He muttered, then spoke up, voice coming out stronger. "I refuse to be the one to tell you to risk your career like that. If anyone, even you, asked me to risk my job for love, I'd hate them forever. I'd love to be able to lie and tell you I could never hate you, but I'm just not as good as you, Dai. Dai was quiet as he spoke. For someone who said it didn't matter how he felt he was expressing it very well. Or at least enough to where Dai could see him, finally.

As much as her lips were ready to interrupt, to combat his statements she merely watched as he was trying to make himself a drink. Her movements were slow, but calculated and before she knew she inched her way in front of him and the glass on the countertop. She was finally close enough to him to where she could smell his scent that always calmed her.

"How you feel has always mattered to me Tobias. I'm sorry for the way I made you feel. However, I'd never regret at least making you feel anything at all because I am not a coworker and I'm not a contract that you could just sign and forget about.." she started too say as she came to the conclusion that she needed to come clean now with what she has been doing. "You can't decide what I do. This I know..I know. I've been thinking about you and our conversation nonstop.. everyday" she admitted while breaking eye contact briefly. "The truth is..my trip was only supposed to be 3 days. I extended it for various reasons, but mainly for you. I..was thinking about my future and what I wanted that to look like.. that's why I've had countless meetings with agencies and my mentors so I can have a plan-and I do. I want to be better for you and for me." Dai's eyes were burning a little as she tried to stop any tears she may have had.

"You're used to people giving up on you and you tell me that I don't get your words and that you won't ask me to stay or leave- yet here I am despite everything. Why do you think I really came back?" She asked as her brown glossy eyes were searching his face. Having him that close was like torture, but she wouldn't dare move and if he tried to she would follow his lead.

Jack Halstead

He wasn't sure if the current events at the hospital were because they were short-staffed or because it was just that catastrophic of an event. Either way all he could do was help people as they came, particularly the kids. There was a collapse that happened and though not everyone was in the collapse itself, it had done enough damage to everything around so they had to deal with people inhaling things they shouldn't. Aaron Chua, who was head of the trauma department, was getting things coordinated and triaged.

He was meant to lend a hand in the ER with the huge influx of patients coming in and fortunately for him, he actually still worked the peds ER from time to time, so this wasn't a big deal. The only thing that have him worried was his brother. His brother was a police officer, and though yes he was a detective on a special unit, he was always down to help other first responders when the time came for it so he'd be the first on the scene. So part of him was worried about his brother, but he needed to let him do his job and knew he'd update him when he could.

So for now he would go check in on the children and what we do best. His job. He moved to the busy ER, flooded with activity and chaos and ran a hand through his read hair before taking a deep breath. He grabbed the tablet to see who would be attending to next. There was a bit of queue but that was to be expected. Again, there weren't enough doctors to
keep up with the patients, so he'd just have to work twice as hard to get things going. So here he was entering into one of the trauma rooms.

He blinked a few times when he saw that there was another doctor already in there and he blinked, "Oh, sorry got to figure with all the chaos things aren't getting updated on who has already been seen, eh?" he smiled for a second looking over to the doctor who was in there already, Adrian Locke. "If you don't need me to stick around I can move on."

Aurcel

Stephanie had been waiting for this.

Since the day they met, Stephanie had been waiting for the day she could spend some good quality time with Aurcel. A true date. She didn't count the first time they were alone together, not truly. It had been a miserable night full of tears. She couldn't have thanked him enough for what he did for her that night.

It was almost strange to Stephanie how quickly she became attached to him. How he became her comfort person when typically she would turn to her brother. He became the person she called when she needed to smile, the person she would fall asleep on the phone with. She was sure that if he would let her she would show up at his house the same way she would with her brother as well. Some days it seemed as though if Stephanie wasn't talking to him, she was thinking about him.

So of course when he asked to see her she said yes. Of course when he proposed a date she was more than ready to blow off any other plans she had made in the day. There was nothing that Stephanie wanted more than to finally spend some good quality time with Aurcel. She didn't care how or where they were, she just wanted to see him out of a work or disaster setting. She wanted to talk to him, touch him, admire him for the beautiful soul that he was. She wanted everything.

He told her to dress warmly so she did. She found the warmest clothes that she had and she got dressed, wondering what it was that he wanted to do with her. She hoped he wasn't expecting to go hiking or do something crazy. Maybe a nice walk. Maybe a night out under the stars. Stephanie could come up with a whole list of things that she wanted to do with him. Some involving the warmer attire, most not. At the root of each of these dreams, though, was Aurcel.

She wouldn't admit it yet, especially not to herself, but Stephanie was falling and she was falling hard... that was if she hadn't already fallen.

...

It all seemed to happen so quickly. They had just returned from one drop off just to be called out again. Melody had never minded busy days. It was good to have her hands full, her mind occupied. It was a temporary relief from the stresses of the rest of her life. Work was consistent despite each case being different. At least she knew she could rely on being with her work family. At least she could rely on her partner to be there, her day to have some sort of something, and her mind to be occupied.

But it happened so quickly. Rather than being busy Melody found herself being frantic... as frantic as she could be while still staying professional, of course. There was little time for her to think. Little time for her to consider what was the right thing and what wasn't. All she knew is that she had to get there. The last thought on her mind was get to Annie. Help.

The last thought she had was help.

~~~
The scene seemed almost solemn. It was what she imagined a horrific disaster to be, what she imagined the world to be like when it all ended. Eerily quiet. It didn't last for long. The daze seemed to wear off and the hurry began. Orders were shouted and Brittany was thrust straight into work mode. She wasn't given the opportunity to adjust to the heavier workload than she was supposed to receive. So much for her easy day. So much for her smooth transition back into work.
Everything was a flurry. People yelling, giving orders here and there. Britt waited to be told where she was needed, triaging and doing the best she could to keep up with what was going on. There was other ambulances, each of them getting loaded up. Eventually it was her turn, triaging on a woman who had gotten debris scattered all over her. She was out cold, thank god. The amount of pain the woman would have been in would have been debilitating. Excruciating. Brittany made sure the woman was stable, not paying much attention to who she was or who she came with. It wasn't until she was on the stretcher and in the ambulance that Brittany realized it was a fellow paramedic. It wasn't until she had focused on the womans face for a solid moment that she realized it was the girl who had replaced her. The woman who had taken her spot next to her ex. Annies partner. Melody.
So much for her easy day.
Leigh
It was home.
Lexie had stopped counting how many days in a row that she spent sleeping in her best friends bedroom. The same area as her father, practically the same layout. Lexie had stopped wondering if her father would storm over there and demand that his daughter go home. This was home for as long as Leigh would let her stay. This was her home for as long as his mother stayed oblivious.
Waking up in Leigh's room was far more comforting than waking up in her own room could be. Despite the absence of some of the holes in the walls that she did her best to cover with duct tape and stickers, it was relatively the same. At this point it was her room too. Various things from their adventures spread about the room, Lexies own belongings scattered about. Even her laundry was mixed in with Leighs.
So Lex didn't think about her legal home. She didn't bother giving her father a thought as she chomped down on her horse breakfast, challenging Leigh to see who could force more Cocoa puffs in their mouth and giggling when they both choked. She split apart from Leigh to get herself ready for the day, dragging a broken brush through her hair and doing what she could to make sure that she was as clean as possible.
She didn't usually interact with Leighs mom, didn't usually stand aside and watch as Leigh tried to get her attention. In a way she was jealous of Leigh. At least his mother was consistent with her neglect. Back when Lexie lived with her father there were days where he wanted nothing to do with her, other days where all wanted to do was yell and scream at her, then there was the few days... the days where her father was so drunk that he couldn't tell the difference between her and her mother. Those days were the worst days.
Lex was already out the door and waiting on Leigh when he finally gave up on trying to summon his mother. She could tell that there was a bit of pain behind his smile despite how brave he was trying to be. Being his best friend, Lexie knew she had a responsibility to make him feel better.
"I bet that they left some dynamite there." She mused, skipping ahead of Leigh just a little bit so she could twirl around and walk backwards while talking with him. "It's going to be so fun. There's some scaffolding or whatever there and I bet I could climb all the way to the top. Oh my god. It's too bad we don't have like, a melon or something so we could throw it off the scaffolding and watch it smash into a million pieces. That would be so cool. Like ice age with the last melon kind of vibes."
he drive was smooth and it seemed like he was getting green lights. He was getting anxious as he got close to her place. It wasn't anything bad, but it was more about if he could make a good impression on her. Yes, it was their first official date and they have known each other for a bit now, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to try hard. He would always try his best around her, if it wasn't obvious to her already.
Don't think about it. You've seen her not too long ago and you're acting like a boy in grade school. I feel like my heart is going da da dam- a fucking lawn mower or something...I'm stupid, what does she even see in me haha?
He made sure to be at her place and park for a couple of minutes finally calming his nerves to go up to her door. He made sure to grab the flowers he got for her before walking up. He wondered if she would think it was a nice gesture or if he was trying too hard. Aurcel took a deep breathe before knocking on her door and waiting.
It wasn't until she opened the door that his shoulder relaxed and his face lit up with a light smile. "There's my princesa.. these are for you" he told her as he handed her the bouquet of hibiscus, giving her cheek a kiss. Even that little gesture for him was setting him off. "We do have to go soon. I want to make sure it doesn't get too crowded yet" he told her as he was trying not to give much away. His brown eyes looked at her attire, noting how she listened to him. "You look like a cute teddy bear I'm not gonna lie" he admitted before his face got slightly pink and he cleared his throat. Once they got to the car he opened the door for her of course and then went to the driver's side to get in. Now it was settling in that she is next to him and the date already started. He made a silent prayer as he started up the car.
God, I don't talk to you much because I mean have you seen my life? Anyway I just want today to go alright. If not any other day then just today will suffice.. please..
“A melon would’ve been EPIC!” Leigh cheered, scrambling to keep up with Lex on his crutches as the pair made their way past the dilapidated buildings and highway underpasses of the dingiest districts of Vegas, eager to see what destructive fun they could get their sticky hands on. This was sure to be way more entertaining than huffing air freshener pods in the Minimart parking lot, spray-painting butts on the school dumpsters, or even getting Lex stuck in a storm drain again. This might even be more fun than sneaking into Luxe and getting trashed. “Man, we should’ve brought booze.” Leigh thought out loud, reminiscing on their last bout of shenanigans, “Hey, maybe we can score some on the way back or something. Or find the weed guy. Wait, doesn’t one of your friends sell stuff?”
When they spotted the abandoned construction site casting its rusty shadows on the desert, Leigh had fully forgotten about the worries of the morning with his mom. There was just Lex, and the dry Nevada sunshine, and the fiery anticipation of the tomfoolery laid out before them.
“We’re here!!!!”
“Oh dude, this is even better than I thought!! Lex, Lexlexlexlexlexlex– this place has EVERYTHING!”
He bent down, almost stumbling over his own crutch as he did so, and picked up a rusty chainsaw that was so heavy that his tiny arms buckled under the weight. “How’dya even turn this thing on, let’s see here, if we just… hngh…” Luckily for both of their arteries, the saw only sputtered and smoked for a few seconds before giving up the ghost. “Dang it. Thing’s busted. C’mon, I bet there’s more interesting crap lyin’ around.”
Naturally, it didn’t take long for them to spy something even more deadly than a tetanus-ridden broken chainsaw. Within twenty seconds of puttering around the dusty lot, Leigh perked up yet again and was crowing for his best friends’ attention. “WHOA, LOOK UP THERE!” Leigh, so rapt in giddy excitement that he didn’t even react with embarrassment at his own pubescent voice cracks, pointed eagerly up to a cracked and dry-rotten plywood platform a couple feet above their heads: balanced on top of it was a crate stamped with big red letters spelling out TNT. Jackpot!
“I betcha you can’t get all the way up there and grab that.” He dared, leaning forward to give his favorite pal a mischievous nudge. “I mean we all know I could do it, ‘cause I’m so athletical and all, but you gotta show me how the masters do it. C’mon, broski! I’ll give you a boost.” He was already getting into position to let Lex step up on his shoulders to hoist herself up onto the scaffolding.
Tobias was uneasy as Dai came closer, following him as he made his drink. He tensed up, wanting to get away, remove the temptation that was in front of him. But, he couldn't. That would be a weakness. Moving away from her once to make a drink could be written off as just that, but moving away twice would show he was trying to run away.
"You are the only one who has ever made me feel this much," his tone was hard to read. He sounded rather annoyed at the thought of feelings, but underneath there was something much softer to his words. A certain relief in being able to be more open with Dai. "You're not just a business deal and sometimes- sometimes I don't know what to do with that."
Tobias took a sip of his whiskey, listening closely as Dai talked about her trip, her career. His brows furrowed as he listened, shocked that she would do all that even after they left things the way they left things. The question of why she came back hung in the air for a few seconds. He knew why. It was because she cared about him. "I care about you," he said, voice low and unwavering. His eyes scanned hers, gazing into her soul. "You're much better at showing you care. You have be beat there. But I do care. It broke me to think that I hurt you."
He looked away for a moment, in deep thought, then looked back to the woman that stood so close to him. "So... you have a plan? What does that mean exactly? Like if we do this- give us a real shot- your career would be... safe?"
She felt as though time stopped. He felt hurt? He's letting me know he felt hurt knowing how I was feeling. Hes..really letting me in..? Even if it's just a little I couldn't be happier. I can at least rest easier knowing that I'm not just something he can pass off.
Her eyes didn't move from his, she even looked at him as he looked away the slight smell of whiskey seemed to relieve some tension.
Dai knew he wanted definite answers. Yes or no. He doesn't want an I don't know. "After the rest of my upcoming meetings I can confidently say yes to you. I don't even-" she laughed in the process of getting her words out, her hand running through her raven hair. "I don't know if you even want me anymore. I-I know I've caused trouble sometimes and I push you out of your comfort zone..maybe thats something you realize you dont want.." Dai could feel her heart ripping at the thought of him just hearing her out and the outcome being them still separated.
"Regardless, I still mean what I said last time before I left..I love you, Tobias.." she finally admitted with no sign of regret or hesitation, just the light pink upon her cheeks as the words slipped her mouth.
This was probably a little more than embarrassing for her. Well, no probably, she definitely was embarrassed. In the lab at the moment were her cohorts and students, so this was extremely inappropriate and out of place. While she appreciated the people there who were trying to defend and protect her, she wished she wasn't in this situation in the first place. She wished Sora would just go away and leave her alone. Though, by the way he was acting she figured that wasn't really an option at this moment.
Sulan rolled her neck around to crack it, before taking a deep breath. If this was how it was going to be, fine. She needed to mitigate this before she was embarrassed anymore than she already was in front of her cohorts. So though she didn't want to, she relented. "Fine Sora, I'm coming just....get out while I clean up...." and with that she turned to straighten her station up from the mess she was making as she was working on her model for one of her studies. She made sure everything was in order and good enough for her to pick it right back up when she was done.
When she was satisfied, she looked to the person who had stood up to defend her and thanked him, reassuring him she'd be fine. She took her glasses off, and sat it on the table before finally exiting out of the lab and moving away from the door and soon as they were out of earshot she turned to Sora,"N-...Are you stupid?! You can't come into my job and act like that ..why are you even here?! I don't want to see you..."
So many emotions were boiling under her skin, but the main one was anger and it sat right underneath her skin.
Yeah. She was probably done after one. Maybe a surrogate if she wanted another, but carrying a child was probably the worst experience of her life. Well if she was being honest, she was sure she was having one of the easier pregnancies, but not being able to drink, eat sushi, soft cheeses, caviar, ceviche OH MY GOD it was just too much for her. A month of abstinence from that stuff? No problem, but 9?! She wasn't sure she could do it, plus with the hormones all over the place her mood swings and cravings were something serious. Why did she want chocolate covered spicy pickles and relish? Did that even make sense? They ate better tasting things in the country side of Russia. How frustrating.
What made it all the worst was, she had to still take on the big sister role for Oli. The issue was, though she didn't mind doing it, her patience and energy had dropped significantly. And if anyone knew how dealing with a special needs child was, as politely to put that as possible, it was a lot of work and patience and she had to reserve it ALL for Oliver. It was tiring, and she wasn't exactly sure how much longer she could manage it. Rurik was already weary on the child, so she had to be careful or she'd be banned from seeing him altogether. She couldn't allow that.....so she had to persevere.
There was a blink when Stassi looked to the apple watch on her wrist, notifying that someone had used a code at the gate and who it belonged to. It was Oliver....did she summon him somehow? There was a brief moment of confusion, mostly from the pregnancy fog, before it was interrupted by a text on that same wrist device from her security guard alerting her of his impending approach.
She took a slow breath before she heard the knock on the door, and waddling over to the door before beginning to open it. Before she could even finish the process she was getting words dumped on her and she was struggling to keep up with what he was saying, but part of that because she was focused on his physical state and WHAT THE F**K was that a turtle head? Oh no.
Stassi exclaimed in Russian before cursing under her breath before she did her best to usher Oli to the closest seat,"I'll get the first aid kit and call Rurya...."
Her heavy breathing continued not hearing Hayden initially with the headphones still blasting the music, but she turned to him out of instinct and when she saw him her breathing began to calm down. She began to take slower breaths, as she began to become calm. She still couldn't hear him, but could make out sort of what he was saying based on his lips. This made her look around and notice everything was fine and there wasn't really much damage to the car. At least none she could see from her seat and of the other car in the mirror. She didn't see any pedestrian on the ground so she looked back to Hayden.
She flung forward wrapping her arms around his neck and stuffing her face into his chest before she closed her eyes. She was safe. She was with Hayden, she was always safe with him, right? He didn't hit her, or threaten to hit her. He always made sure she was ok and he did his best to protect her, right?
Slow breaths became still as her breathing returned to normal, she opened her eyes and looked up to him before pulling away. She turned the music on her phone off and removed each airpod from her ears before nodding. She mouthed thank you, before looking out the window. She thought for a moment - she just wanted to go home now. Forget the appointment, she wanted to be in the safety of her apartment or Hayden's bed, either or...just not on the road.
"When we're done here can we just go home?"
Sulan
Just like ripping off a band-aid I guess
Once Sulan agreed he said nothing and closed the door. He waited outside the room as she got things straightened up. If the others in the room thought he was crazy or an idiot right now they would probably be right,but then again he hasn't felt like this in a really long time..that could make a person mentally insane.
She might hit me. She might scold me. Hell, she might even want to kill me right now. In the end, I knew calling and texting would make no difference. Fuck...am I really messing up..maybe I'm rusty at this whole romance thing..
As he heard the door open he saw on her face she was annoyed. Sora followed her until they were in a good spot to officially start hammering him. At first he said nothing. He let her talk to him however she saw fit.
"Well it's not like you would've answered my calls or texts. Like you said you don't even want to see me anyway-" he told her, his fingernails started to dig into his palm so she wouldn't notice how much he was feeling.
"Look..I get it. I'm sorry for coming in like that. I'm sorry for hurting you I just..I came back. I was not even supposed to be in town ever again and here I am. Why? Because of you. Because you've somehow slithered your way into my life and now I have these feeling that I don't even know how to deal with anymore. There. I said it" he breathed a sigh of relief almost as the words he'd been burying were finally said.
"This whole thing is making me crazy. You're making me absolutely fucking crazy here Sulan. Why do I feel the need to actually need you? Really..what have you done to me...?" He was asking her, his brown dark eyes looking over her face- her fiery eyes and plump lips.
Oliver didn’t always realize how much mental energy it took to deal with him; how hard it was to be friends with a developmentally disabled homeless criminal, and how frustrating it could be to constantly get dragged into his increasingly bizarre problems. He didn’t even really register how incredibly fucking weird it was to have someone show up at your doorstep with a stolen vintage Ninja Turtle movie mask, covered in minor injuries and rambling incoherently.
However, he understood how physically exhausting it was to gestate a fetus. His marine biology studies had taught him that much… turns out that in the animal kingdom, from turtles to river otters to humans, being pregnant is a relentlessly taxing and often dangerous process, almost without exception. Using the energy and resources of her own body to create another, as fascinating as that was, it meant that every biological process took twice as much effort and the slightest imbalance could risk her own life.
For this reason, Oliver looked at Stassi with a worried frown as she struggled to walk with him back through the house. He stepped back away from the chair, shaking his head, and cautiously reached out and nudged her hand towards it.
“...M-maybe… maybe you should sit. I can find Rurik. It’s okay. I’ll b-... I-I’ll be right… right back.”
He ran off, seemingly to go find Stassi’s partner, but came trotting back into the room only a few seconds later to bring Stassi a glass of water– staying hydrated while pregnant was doubly important. Then, with an awkward little wave, he tripped out of the room again… still carrying the stolen multimillion-dollar turtle mask.
Stassi’s home was a sprawling mansion, elegantly skirting the line between refined and ostentatious. Oliver, who himself lived in a broken-down and insect-infested and definitely stolen van out by the casinos, always got a bit overwhelmed trying to find anything in this immaculate modern castle. He spent several minutes dizzily pacing back and forth upstairs, wandering in and out of the same rooms over and over without realizing he’d already been through them, before he finally found who he was looking for.
“Uh…” Oliver nervously cleared his throat, trying to get Rurik’s attention from several feet away, as if he were apprehensive of getting too close. Though he didn’t have the best grasp on these things, he did know that Rurik didn’t quite have Stassi’s heroic levels of patience with him. “Hi. Stassi is downstairs. I… well, there’s a thing that I… if we can…you have the first aid kit still, yes?” He spoke staring down at the floor, holding the turtle mask behind his back and fidgeting with its mechanics. “You should probably come now. This is… well, you should probably come now. You should… yeah.”
Theo smiled as Emiliano got up to greet her, she appreciated it when men stood up to greet her. It was something Levi had also always done.
"Mr. Castillo." She mused, greeting him back, slightly reveling in the feeling of being adored. She didn't even mind that he was a little bold with his hand placement.
Theo gave him a small smile as he talked about his card, "Well I'm happy to use it whenever if you think it isn't being used enough." She gave him a little pout.
Theo gave a curt laugh when he mentioned not seeing her in months and how she was running around like crazy. He barely knew how true that statement was. And even then, he probably didn't understand the scope of how much work she did.
"It's honestly rare to see me outside of the office during election season so consider yourself lucky. But I'll have a Manhattan." She said, not needing to look at the menu.
"How have you been? Any new adventures? And how's your father?" She asked, getting settled into her seat and taking a sip of the water that was already on the table.
Scottie was surprised by Sam saying he had a gift for her, especially with it being at her work. But then, Sam pulled something from behind his back and Scottie had to make a conscious effort not to let her jaw drop. He had brought her some beautiful pink roses.
If she thought about the gesture too hard, she might have cried, but she wouldn't do that until she was alone in her room.
"You're such a sweetheart."
she said, giving him a small smile.
"I'm almost done with this set and then I'll come grab you. Take a seat, relax, and enjoy the show."
She shot back a wink in his direction. And for the next 3 minutes of her set, she made direct eye contact with Sam. Usually she had taken her top off by that point, but strangely she didn't want to. She wanted him to see her body, naturally, not in the strip club. It didn't effect her tips as it was early evening and barely anyone was there yet.
After her set, she walked off stage and went straight to Sam, she gave him a kiss on his cheek.
"Hi you."
Adrian was used to the hustle and bustle of the emergency room, but especially when there had been a huge trauma. Adrian was currently working on a little 4 year old with odd presenting symptoms.
Frankly, she had run a bunch of labs and nothing was coming back conclusive, she was stumped, which she hated. She didn't want to keep subjecting the little boy to more tests but also wanted him to get better.
So the relief that flooded Adrian when another doctor entered was probably palpable. And a cute doctor at that. She hadn't ever worked with Dr. Jack Halstead but she knew of him.
"Hey! Actually, I think I could use your help with this one." She motioned for them to move to the hallway where she began to explain the tests she had done, and once she was finished she said, "So basically, I am stumped."
He noted that she said his last name instead. That would need to change,but he couldn't lie and say her velvet voice didn't spark a rise out of him. Even if she dumbed it down to just calling him Sir he knew he'd still go off the rails.
He was watching her with a lowered gaze and a slight smile tugging on the corner of his lips. "I'll think about giving it to you, the card I mean. Of course that in itself comes with conditions that we can talk about later" he explained while the waiter came to grab their orders for drinks. Emiliano ordered a Manhattan for her and their signature salted caramel whiskey.
"Anything new? Besides being at my father's beck and call for meetings and networking with what feels like 26/8-the only thing new is you." He admitted confidently. "My father..he's doing well. The election is making him so busy I have to check in on him to even make sure he's taking care of himself nowadays" he sighed as the worry about his father slipped from his face just as easily as it came.
"What about you? Anything new? How's your family?" He asked her. The waiter swiftly came back to drop off the drinks and he effortlessly picked his chilled glass up to finally taste the sweet whiskey he'd longed for all day. When she had talked he made sure his attention was on her and nowhere else. Making sure she felt seen and heard. For an independent woman like herself she shouldn't be with someone who doesn't know how to hold their own. She should be with someone like him.
It took everything for Sulan not explode right then and there. She couldn't explode on him in this public place and lose her job and consequently everything else she had been working hard on. She was absolutely livid and she was sober, and it was all becoming so hard for her to keep it inside. She wanted to call her big cousin have him come beat him up like she used to do.
She dug her nails deeper into her palms breaking the skin as she closed her eyes and took a long deep breath trying to calm herself. She looked at him doing her best to keep from hitting him," SLITHERED, Sora? Slithered? Is this your idea of a confession of love? This is romantic to you? You think barging in to my safe space, my place of work where I do things I've dreamed of my whole life was the best way to get my attention?"
She laughed a bit as she shook her head,"You left. You shouldn't have come back. I don't want you back, I want you to go away and leave me alone. I told you I loved you while you were half dead on my bed...and you basically told me shove it. "
She rolled her eyes before she closed them because felt warm water run from her eyes,"ふざけるな "
I'm a fucking idiot aren't I?
Emotions were brewing up like the last time they sat each other. When she spoke in his language he nearly lost it. How could he keep everything inside and be sane after this? How could he try to push her away without her being hurt? He cursed at his former self for being an idiot because now he was in a position where he could really lose her.
"Did I think this was the best way to have this conversation? Yes. Did I think it was also inappropriate to be here as well? Yes. I thought of everything and here I am. I've thought about the possibilities. I've thought about the exits. I even thought about there being surveillance here rather than anywhere else" he explained as her detective side started to kick-in,but he didn't need that side. He needed..he needed to be just Sora-which was difficult enough as it was on an everyday basis.
"I'm not..I-I'm not messing with you Sulan. Just hit me if it will make you feel better at this point! I know I deserve it anyway-" as if he didn't just ask for it, still it came as a surprise just as fast when she did exactly that. The pressure on his body as her fists were hitting his body. He compared it to the way his heart felt while he was away. This..it hurts. All the pent up emotions he kept in. All the hurt he cause her- it was finally crashing down on him. His hands would catch both of her wrists so should could focus his words instead.
"愛してるよ...I'm in love with you, Sulan. Why wouldn't I be? I left and..I said things to hurt you because I don't feel like I'm deserving of you. The last person I loved died because of my job so..how could I live with myself if it happened again!?" His voice was cracking as a lump was in his throat. For the first time awhile he felt his own tears burning down his cheeks. He hadn't cried in front of anyone in years,but for her? It seemed like his walls were crashing down and crumbling. "I just..I just thought that..it'd be better to lose you than for you to die..ごめんなさい" Sora's hands were shaking slightly at his grasp on her. He finally broke.
