- Two large scars cross either of his shoulder blades, nearly parallel with each other. Though rarely physically seen, their effects on Kaine's shoulder movement can be picked out.
- Very pronounced cheekbones, a pointed nose, and a generally narrow and oval-shaped face. He has had several surgical face implants.
- His eyes are typically shadowed by bags, and the sclera of them bloodshot.
- There is always a slight limp to his step.
Kaine Henosis Acerbus IV
Kaine Acerbus
27
Male
A Sadomasochist: it is easily concluded what kind of man Kaine is. He is an open sign of cruelty, malicious contempt, and anger; his acts revolve around his own self gain and greedy ambitions. No second thought is given to the consequences of his actions. Very much the cold and calculating type, once his pieces on the chessboard are aligned, their fate is of no consequence. He'd throw away anything to reach his goals - to exalt himself above all else. Power is what he lives for; it is the only attainable thing he desires. And once with power, he thirsts for more, and more, always searching to end his immortal thirst. Pessimistic always, yet confident in his own abilities; sometimes arrogant.
Kaine is easily raged and set-off, much like a caged animal. His integrity for lack of human emotion is the cap - the seal - to his inner struggle and rage. When maddened, Kaine's vicious behavior only heightens, but so does his awareness and ability to decipher diminish. The perfect example of self-driven rage. For that is Kaine's being; he is nothing more than the excess tissue of negative emotions and mental disorders. What makes up his soul is inhumanity. But, what is interesting about him could very well be this: through a lust for power, sadistic pleasure, hate, cruelty toward others, and his own inner struggle and battle with emotion, Kaine is searching for the true meaning behind his life. He doesn't look for the future, or the past, but really what he is searching for is his present self.
- Ranged weaponry.
- He is easily effected by loud sounds and can be rendered immense pain from them.
- Children. Perhaps Kaine isn't utterly cold-hearted.
Katana and Fighting Style:
Due to the injury over his shoulder blades, Kaine is unable to lift his arms past a certain point. Due to this, most sword styles, and especially traditional Japanese sword fighting styles such as Kendo, are impossible for him to practice. Thus, he uses a modified version of Batt?jutsu - the Japanese art/science of drawing a sword - and favors a traditional katana for this style. His attacks are typically horizontal, and involve very little raising of the arms, allowing him to be swift and accurate with his strokes without needing to worry about his shoulders. It is a deadly technique used primarily to dispatch an opponent in a single blow.
- Kaine specializes in close combat - blades to be specific - and personally favors the katana. However, he is also adept with handguns, grapple weaponry, and throwing knives.
- Communication.
- Technological adeptness; advanced computer skills.
- Strategical/tactical adeptness.
- Mass organization - the ability to command.
- Close combat and ranged combat alike.
- Thief - adept especially at stealing vital information.
- Close combat, preferably with blades (of any sort).
- Fire, heat, and ash.
- Terror-inflicted victims.
- Power. The ability to rule over all - to be the master of dreams and wishes.
- Interference with his plans or person.
- Lack of power/position.
- Loud noises.
- The taste of his own blood.
- Heavy weaponry.
- Birds of any sort.
Kaine was left an orphan at the steps of a church, located in a small village off the map of civilization. It was home to many refugees from neighboring countries and cities, and also home to the outcast. Despite being small, its population was actually quite great, though the majority of the people were women and children. Kaine's life was fairly normal; he laughed, cried, and played, just as all other children did. However, when angered, an inner cold and darkness could be sensed within him; something vile and corrupt that was, for the time being, unexplainable when it came out.
It was during his tween years when blood swept over the plains of this small village. Syndicate groups, gangs and the like, had targeted the village as a slave resource. They raided the village, plundering the people's homes, doing away with women, and spreading chaos wherever they went. Slowly yet surely though, the population was being rounded up, being forced into massive cages like beasts, and feeling an iron fist tighten around their necks. For those who stepped out of line, the whip was used, and Kaine felt it's bitter kiss as he struggled to help his adoptive family.
But then, someone, or something, set off the slavers to massacre the entire village's population. Whether resistance had been made against them, or orders had been changed, it was irrelevant when all was said and done. Their weapons found their marks in the chests and necks of the people; absolutely no mercy was shown. Kaine found himself sitting among the corpses of his family members and those of his friends, their blood neatly trickling out and around his feet, crying in utter anguish against the thundering screams of the villagers - the horrifying sight of their eyes as they fell dead next to him. The crack of guns and screams were nonstop. The blood, the screams, the faces of the slaughtered . . . Kaine's head felt dizzy, his vision green, as he collapsed to the ground unconscious.
--
Years passed after the massacre. Kaine was a slave, one of the few survivors of his village, forced in chains to do the cruel bidding of his masters. His days were spent in silence and brutal service toward the slavers, then eventually to other owners. The underworld played hot potato with him, simply passing him around the ring of crime bosses, warlords, and the corrupt politicians of society, each throwing him away without second thought once his usefulness was spent. These times were filled with nearly as much pain and anguish as the day of the massacre - only here Kaine had to keep his cries in, lest he meet death.
Kaine had known from a young age that he was adopted, and this had always been a puzzling question in his mind. Who were his true parents? If they had tossed him aside on the steps of a church, he knew he had been unwanted, but often he fostered the idea they were demons of a sort - the human incarnation of them. Still, regardless of who or what they were, he had to wonder.
If I were to be found by my true parents, he asked himself one day, would I be happier than I am now? Could I feel the joys of life again?
He didn't have long to wait for an answer.
His master at the time was caught in a plot to overthrow him, during a planned coup. There were few loyal to the crime lord, but still as it was, a bloody fight ensued between the two sides. It was a painful night for the still young Kaine, for the sounds of gunfire and the screams of anguish brought back horrific memories. He would have given anything to be slave to any number of people at that moment, so long as he was away, so long as he wasn't tortured by the sounds of death! Pitifully he hid himself as bullets and grenades exploded around him, curses echoed on the lips of the dying, and painfully the battle came to a close.
After what seemed like years, Kaine poked his head out of hiding. His vision was blurred from shutting his eyes so tight, but as his surroundings came into focus, he found himself looking directly into the mean eyes of a barrel-chested bulk of a man - a man with the bright red emblem of a mocking jay emblazoned on his breast. It was the emblem of the Acerbus family - one of the most cruel, loath, and powerful families of the time. And little did he know it, but Kaine looked into the eyes of his father. His true father. Kaine bent down to his knees before throwing himself at the feet of the man, beginning to wail pitifully amid cries for mercy.
The man, his father, seized Kaine by the hair, pointed a gun to his head. But, as the boy's face came into the light, his father knew him to be kin. The facial features of the Acerbus family were so distinct that, it was said, you could pick them out from a mile away. Just like their name, they stood out among other people, like a black contrasted against white. And in that instant, a surprising, but painful reunion took place between father and son. For Kaine was a missing child, not an abandoned one. His own sister had hidden him from his parents, left him at the steps of a church, all in an attempt to save Kaine from the horrid fate he was destined - the fate of the Acerbus. But now, his father with him, and the truth made known to Kaine, his fate was embraced . . . and his doom.
--
The Acerbus were a cursed family, destined to slaughter, betray, and kill. Under the family's wing, Kaine grew learned in all of their ways. With his father to guide him, his skills in weaponry soared, as did his abilities to command and execute missions, coups, and all that the Acerbus bid him to do. Eventually though, the family's prowess in the underworld and society began to fade. Kaine's father soon found himself cornered by his enemies, threatened from all sides, and he feared that his ever cunning son might take advantage of the opportunity and seize the family throne. In response to these fears, Kaine's father tried to murder his son with his own hand, but found his own death instead. Kaine's blade found itself lodged in his father's heart, though not after he himself had received brutal injuries - injuries that would come to hinder him for the rest of his life.
With his father's death though, Kaine had risen as the family's head. Though he kept the first name "Kaine", which his adoptive parents had given him, he now took on the full title of Kain Henosis Acerbus IV - his proper title as successor to the family thrown. Roughly it translated to "Unified Shadow".
That's what Kaine was now, a unified shadow. The emperor of shadows. He held the underworld between his fingers, and he held the lust for the power of the entire world.
