My Interest Check
Well, then, I suppose there`s only a couple more things I`ll need: the magic system premise and the characters.

The magic system is what dictates what kind of things are allowed in the fantasy setting, like laws of physics in real life. Of course we don`t need the entire magic system developed here, but I`ll need the general premise. Afteral, if one of us is going with gun-wielding vampires and the other cane evaporate mountains with his gaze, that ain`t gonna be fair or make sense, right?

If you need an example, in the Eragon would-be-a-trilogy, the magic system relied on knowing the elfic language and it`s limits were dictated by "it takes the same amount of energy as if you did it without magic".

Oh ok. So how about...more or a dark sort of fantasy? Like a medieval underworld running underneath the cities - vampires etc. And in terms of magic...maybe just some powers for older, more experienced vamps? Magic takes energy from you to use though, like the idea in Eragon. What do you think?

So let me make sure we`re on the same page here. Your idea is that, beneath common cities of today, there lies an underworld in a medieval-like state of technology, with vampiries and other such creatures. However, only more experienced vampires are able to use magic...

I`ll just add in, maybe, that humans also have magic, but of a different kind. More specifically, vampire-killing magic, besides the common means to do so. Also I`d like to alter the "experienced" part from "old" to "experiencing life" thus preventing me from being forced to wright a character as old as time, so to speak.

Yep! That's all cool! Totally understand that! But we could make it like more of a status drama thing, that only certain humans possess the anti-vampire Magic and are practically treated like saints and given everything to help them try and master their power, whilst everyone else is kinda...just normal. xD what do you think?

So would it be alright if I played a human who perhaps didn't have powers? But had to serve/work for people who do, and that's how she knows about the whole vampire thing?

"NPCs shall be split among us."-quote. That includes vampires.

Also, there is a now rather obvious plot twist, but anyway....

shall we get started?

"Well, you see, he is the best of his class. He never scored any less than 78% in any of your exams, and..."

Giz raised a hand, halting the woman`s speech. She fell silent as she saw the white glove raising, continuing to pet her child, a young short redhead wearing glasses. It was thin boy indeed, and his ragged clothes gave away his wealth conditions. Giz yawned. It was always the same thing. Every kid wanted to be a rich hero. Didn`t they get there were dangers to it?

"Did he have a score of at least 94%?" Giz repeated loudly.

"Well no, but..."

"Then I have no business with you. Good day. Mss....uh..." Oh no, had he forgotten his servant`s name again? One would have expected that with just one he`d be able to remember the name. Still, he had no time to loose. "Hm, could you escort this lady and her son out please?"

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes as my master forgot my name...again. One day, he might actually remember. I walked over to the lady with a sympathetic smile, and tried to give the boy a reassuring one, but they were too distraught to even try and smile back. I slowly lead them out of the room, patting the woman's arm comfortingly until we reached the door. They knew the way back from there so I didn't need to escort them any further. I bid my goodbyes and returned to where we were before. An awkward silence fell before I finally spoke out. "That was a little harsh, don't you think?"

"Harsh?" Giz shouted, standing up quickly from his chair and clenching his teeth. "Do you think this is an easy job? Let me tell you, that kid would do nothing but wet his pants if ever saw one of those blood-suckers with his own eyes. No, that woman was looking for money, and we`re not paid to be mercenaries. We`re paid to be martirs. Maybe I WAS harsh, but everything is in this business."

The man turned and walked towards the window, in silence. He played with his long brown mustache as he observed the children play in the park that lied next to the building. The heavy grey clouds did not help the tension that had risen in the room, nor did the sight of the old buildings of the area.

"I`m sorry, I shouldn`t have yelled at you like that. Life hasn`t been easy on me in the last few weeks and in just a couple days, it`s about to get even worse..." Giz finally apologized, still without turning back from the window. Outside, the first few drop of rain began to fall.

I was silent through his speech, and remained that way as he apologised. I didn't want to speak out of turn again - I'd been reprimanded about that before, and it wasn't pleasant. "Is there anything you would like me to do?" I ask quietly, watching the small raindrops slide down the glass pane. It reminded me of home, of how I missed it. We used to go out and play in the rain as children, splashing in puddles and the like. It rained so often that if we didn't go out in it, we wouldn't get any fresh air at all! Those were good days. But then we moved to the city, where we discovered vampires the bad way...still, nobody around here knows about my brother. I pray they never will.

"Is there anything you would like to do?" Giz replied. He forced himself into a faint smile. "You have served me well, ms, huh...Anyway, I`ll be going on a trip shortly, and as much as I appreciate everything you have been doing for me lately, I cannot have you come with me. I`ll provide, of course, the necessary amounts for your, huh, "demotion" and in addition a large sum as a tip for you hard work. I would like you to pack your things and be ready to leave by tomorrow morning."

Giz walked over to his large wooden desk, with it`s carved vampires and golden drawers. There were papers spread chaotically through the entire desk, most of them exams from students with potential, amongst many others whose requests to become a vampire hunter tortured Giz every day. He took a silver key from his pocket and opened the bottom drawer, removing a small paper package. Giz closed the drawer and walked towards his servant, offering it to her.

(OOC: the package contains a ton of money, in case your character wants to open the said package)

"Miss Lawrence, sir. Serena Lawrence." I murmured when he forgot again. I was rather confused when he started rifling through his desk, but as he explained, my confusion turned into shock. "Sir? Are you serious? I mean, I can't possibly take all of this! Will...will I be serving you again?" I ask, unsure whether what he'd given me will be able to provide for me and my mother...

"Frankly, I`d expect you feel you were being underpaid. As for the service...Maybe if when I come back you still want to do. But I doubt you will, ms Lawrence." Giz answered "Now go and get ready. I have to start packing too, if I ever am to leave in time. Feel free to take whatever you want from lost and found."

With those words Giz bowed and moved to his bedroom, closing the door behind him. He opened a closet and removed his bags from it. That time he took more than his usual single bag. It would most likely be a long a journey. He scouted for his heavy black coats and equally as black scarf. Thinking about it, Giz hadn`t worn anything that wasn`t black since he became a vampire hunter, had he? "Wear black to hide, white to taunt, red bait" they had told him. So far, it had proven true, at least with the wilder vampires. The elders, on the other hand, those were much faster learners, although it is a bit hard to spread the word about the habits of the hunters if you`re dead. Nevertheless, he`d had to watch out for those in his journey.

Next in line was entertainment. He headed to his bookshelf and searched for a book he hadn`t yet read. Unfortunately, it didn`t seem like he had one. Good thing Giz had began packing early. Now he knew that when he bought the supplies, he`d have to get a new book too. Maybe that "Whise" collection had a new volume?

"Garlic, bread, water, whine and canned meat." Giz reminded himself.

I nodded awkwardly as he turned and left for his bedroom. I didn't know what to say or do, and just ended up staring gobsmacked at the package in my hands. Shaking my head in disbelief, I turned on my heel and headed towards my bedroom to pack what little things I had. I needed to be quick because it was dark enough already without me wasting more time. I didn't get the chance (or could be bothered) to trifle through lost property for anything of interest, and it would sort of be stealing if I did. So, satisfied I'd got everything and leaving a letter of thanks to Giz on my bed (for him to totally ignore), I set off for home...the stars were already shining brightly.

Keep your head down, don't look up, walk fast. That's what my mother had always taught me. It was a large city, and there were plenty of hiding places for the things that went 'bump' in the night. I more or less kept to the cobbled main roads, but it was unnerving to see I was the only one around. I felt vulnerable. I quickened my pace, rounding the corner to my home, saying my prayers to the Lord that I was nearly there when I heard footsteps. Lightning fast, but noticeable. I froze, rapidly twisting my head that way and back to find the source. But before long, I was in a dead sprint towards my door. I had the sense of someone following me and if I could just reach...I clattered loudly through the door, landing in a heap but almost jumping up again to slam the door behind me, panting. "WHO'S THERE?!" The shouting voice of my mother could be heard from the next room, clearly not expecting my brash return. "Mum!" I called back, between breaths. I heard a huge sigh as she hurried in to see the state I was in. "What on eart-"

"I was being followed. He was fast. I was...I was worried it...it could be him, ma." I explained quietly, leaning against the door. She was silent for a moment, water stinging her eyes, as she stared at the floor. "Ma?"

"We're leaving." She suddenly burst out. "In the morning. No questions asked. Get to bed and don't unpack." She ordered, briskly moving into the kitchen. My gaze lingered on her retreating form sadly before I admitted defeat and did what I was told.

As Giz got ready to leave, he went to check n his former servant`s room. She seemed to already be gone, yet she had left this letter on her bed. Giz moved in and pocketed it. He would have read it, right there and then, if not for the fact he was busy. Afterall, he had to go shopping for supplies. Not to mention, it might be a decent read once he got to the battlefield.

He walked through the streets in his usual black clothes, keeping an open eye for any vampire that might have crawled his way up to the city. Fortunately, he did not see any, and headed into the shop safely.

"Good afternoon, lord-general." A salesman greeted Giz from behind. He smiled. He felt a sense of pride when someone called him by his ranking. "Can I help?"

Giz turned, spotting a young boy who barely showed the first sings of having a beard behind him. He wore a white shirt and a black tie, and long black pants. Jeez, wasn`t that a bit overly formal? Still, he couldn`t say that."

"Good afternoon. No, just getting my supplies."

I tried and tried and tried again but sleep never came to me that night. I couldn't stop thinking about who was high-tailing me down that street this evening. Yes, it could've just been any old hungry bloodsucker, but then again...oh I didn't know! I threw my covers off of me in frustration as I got out of bed, going to the window. Looking out, the city looked peaceful...but that it was not. I glanced down at the street below, and practically jumped back in shock at the sight of someone standing below. Tentatively, I edged back up to the window. He didn't move he was just staring...up at me. I couldn't make out his features all that well, but I'd already figured who it was. With a gulp, I reached up to pull the curtain close and saw an evil grin form on his face, before in the next instant, he was gone.

(hope you don`t mind time skips. I`m gonna do one so I can get back to the plot and we can have our characters meet again...somehow... Anyway, this is two days later, morning)

Giz closed the door behind him, knowing it might be the last time he`d see his room for months, perhaps even ever. With a bag on his back and a suitcase in each hand, he was ready to leave. He had done this a million times, leave his home for a journey down to where those bloodsuckers lived and yet, he couldn`t force himself to give that firs step. People said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, but Giz disagreed. It begins with a deep breath and the courage to give that first step.

Taking in a gulp of air, Giz thought about why he was doing it. Why he had chosen to live this life of hunting, what sort of betrayal of life would drive man to do what he did everyday. He looked at his hand, seeing the golden sphere of light forming in the palm. Magic. To kill a vampire there`s nothing better. And still, those who actually had it knew it`s price was an unending burden.

Giz closed his hand, evaporating the sphere of light as he did. Putting on his large black hat, he went out into the street. He took in another gulp of fresh air. In a few hours, no air would be fresh. In a few hours he`d would be going down to hunt.

(It's ok! I understand! xD )

My mother wasn't joking when she said we'd be leaving in the morning. That whole day we spent packing every little thing we owned, binning anything useless and making sure there was no trace of our whereabouts anywhere in the house. It was a stressful work, but one we would probably be thankful for in the future. The sun was already past midday, descending into evening by the time we deemed ourselves done. I stood by the doorway, fists on hips, staring at the 3 large bags full of our belongings. "Mama, is this really necessary?" I asked for what must've been the 5th time today. "I mean, we're living in a city of hunters ma! What's unsafe about it? Surely we cou-"

"No, Serena. I have told you already! No amount of hunters will protect us from him, and I am not losing another one of my family because of it, do you understand young lady?!" She was on the verge of yelling, so I simply nodded and said no more on the subject. It was a sensitive one anyway, for both of us, so there was no need to start an argument about it...at least not another one. My thoughts trailed to where we were heading next, because if mother had any idea, she wasn't sharing it. I once heard a rumour going around the city about this well-guarded, fortress of a city called 'Eden'! It's rumoured to be completely free of Vampires, and complete vampire proof. I rushed home as soon as I'd heard to tell ma, but she brushed it off, rather rudely, as nothing but a fantasy created from desperate hope. I still believed it existed, if nobody else did.

I glanced out of the window, seeing the sun in the sky and asked ma if we would be leaving today. "Yes." Was the short reply. I didn't ask any questions, but she seemed more panicked about this incident than she ever had, and I didn't know why. In silence, we each picked up our bags and bid farewell to the city for one last time.

"Good morning, lord-general!" The two young hunters who were standing in front of the headquarters entrance said as they saw Giz approach. They probably had done nothing but stand there all day. Good for them. Better to stand in guard than to go in an actual hunt.

"Good moring." Giz replied, getting inside as the two youngster made way for him. He stopped for a moment and took in the scene with his jaw open. Never before had he seen such a crowd in the entrance. All of them were at least in their thirties and were wearing clothes as black as the night. Compared to the three man that usually worked in a hunt, this looked more like an army! Still, he should have expected that, for them to hunt such dangerous vampire.

"If it isn't Giz!" A somewhat rough voice said next to him. Giz turned and saw a well-built man with a large beard and about twice his size. Morcov. The younger hunters were use to call him" elephant" based on his size alone. And, of course, his baldness.

"Long time no see. How`s it been?" Giz greeted him. "Great hunt this time, huh?"

"I`m great. Indeed, it seems that way. To think they ORDERED us to bring our servants this time. Ha! Well, orders are orders, and my servant is on cantine with all the others. Speaking of which, where`s your servant?" Marcov inquired.

“Mine? I have none. She got pissed that I kept forgetting her name and left.” Giz lied, smiling shyly. “And I don`t think she`s coming back.”

Morcov began to laugh hardly. Frankly, it annoyed Giz a bit, but he`d have to take it. One less corpse to bring back home by any eventual survivors, one less blood bag for the vampires to feed on. And yet, surprisingly, Marcov suddenly stopped laughing, for the first time in his life. Giz felt a chill in his spine.

“Don`t be so ready to lie to a comrade, lord-general. After all, trust is essential to teamwork. We know you fired her yesterday, but this is an important so I sent someone to fetch her.” Someone said, behind.
