Vampires Hunted

Rhys flinched and turned around. Though her nerves were weak, her mouth was quick.

"Sir." she started. "You know I am religious. I have been studying my faith for some years now, trying to spread my good word throughout

all for peace of mind... God sees every one of his creations as equal you know." she pointed with a weak smile. "I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't give this poor creature a chance for confession. To ease her mind as well as yours. If you give me more time with her, perhaps I can gain you some information without harming her too much?"

She explained truthfully.

"You are a respectable man, yes?" She stared up into his eyes with her brown ones, brushing a strand of her blonde hair from her face. She clutched the cross necklace in her hand tightly. "The holy spirit would be one of the best ways to combat against these demons, not all wars are won with violence."

Andrew did know that about her. Her religious nature had made her seem like a good candidate to fight against these demon spawns. The fact she wanted to try and help Morrigan made Andrew laugh aloud, and reconsider his own move to continue things in the day. Morrigan might want to confess by the end of the day just to get Rhys to shut up.

How much holy talk could a human who chose a demon really endure? Andrew knew Morrigan wasn’t a pureblood; he had done his research, after all.

His laughter died down under her penetrating gaze, and he brushed a hand back through his own blond hair, “All right. If you have any troubles, just shout so the guards know.” He’d take a nap, then. If there were any issues, he’d be nearby, at least.

She smiled as he left and when the door shut she turned back to Morrigan. It didn't matter if he believed her...or if she lied. Or even if he found it the least bit amusing. He left. That was good.

She lifted her phone to her ear and called Saimere. And of course he answered on the last ring. The jackass.

"Saimere, I'm with the Vampiress...she's sustained for now. What should I do?" She asked and brushed back some of Morrigan's hair to peer into her eyes. Already she'd regained some color and her pupils, the dialation was still a bit slow.

Saimere nodded.

"I don't now," he laughed at himself. "I hadn't thought that far ahead yet."

"Saimere! I can't just stand here talking to her all day!" She huffed.

Saimere took in a breath.

"Hold on." he said and ran to Valence's room.

"Here," he said and shoved the phone into Valence's hand.

When Andrew left, Morrigan heard the woman begin to utilize her phone. She looked up and towards her, though almost regretted it when the woman immediately began to touch her, brushing her hair back and looking into her eyes. Morrigan tried to withdraw against the chair, but that, of course, did nothing.

She was assessing the situation, so Morrigan didn’t bear her fangs to let the woman know she did not appreciate all this touching and examining. She grit her teeth and bore it.

The voice on the other line was masculine, laughing. Their plan hadn’t been thought through. ‘Why is there even a plan? Who are they?’ They were not familiar to Morrigan, not that she knew her father’s many contacts. Somehow, she didn’t think this was tied to Kairos.

As Rhys complained, another voice found itself on the line.

Morrigan could make it out, “…what is this? Hello?” Valence spoke into the phone, utterly confused.

“Valence,” Morrigan spoke up loud enough so he would be able to hear.

“Morrigan?! Hey, what’s going on here?” Valence spoke.

~***~

On his end, Valence had been surprised by Saimere just bursting into his room. He took the phone when it was handed to him, “What is this?” He looked to Saimere, but also addressed whoever was on the other side, “Hello?”

The first voice he heard was Morrigan’s. Valence immediately jumped to his feet. “Morrigan?!” He looked wildly to Saimere, and then smiled as he started to pace, though he was still, obviously, confused, “Hey, what’s going on here?” How did Morrigan get a phone? How was she talking? Were all the hunters slaughtered?

"quiet!" Rhys said and stepped towards a corner, away from the door.

"my name is Rhys," she started calmly. "I'm guessing I'm here with someone you know."

Saimeres lack of explaination helped..she rolled her eyes at his lackluster approach to a delicate situation.

She kept her voice calm and steady.

"Saimere told me to keep an eye on your friend. I've given her blood and she's regained some energy." She kept her sentences short and to the point so that she could relay valuable information as quickly as possible.

"Andrew is trying to get information, and he's torturing her. I can't help but so much...if I'm caught no doubt he'll kill me himself."

~**~

Veronica watched the girl on the phone. Creeping outside the window, simply staring in, gripping one of the marble mouldings lining the frame. Her black layered cloak keeping her from the sun...but still the heat of day nearly drove her insane.

She tapped on the glass.

Rhys suddenly went silent and looked to the window, hanging up immediately.

"is someone out there? aren't we on the third floor?" she mumbled and peeked through the curtain as to not allow too much direct sun on Morrigan.

As soon as the curtain moved, Veronica kicked through, glass shattering everywhere like a twinkling mess. She used her knife to cut the duct tape.

"lock the door girl," she said and with a blank panicking mind, she did.

Veronica grabbed the chains and simply tore them apart. Being pureblood..fun.

She tore off her cloak and wrapped it around Morrigan.

"Jump out the window, I've got a car below." she ordered, and grabbed Rhys, throwing the young girl over her shoulder.

Panicking, Rhys yelped, loudly.

Veronica jumped into the window sill and out, landing next to her limousine where Mauro sat waiting.

Shoving Rhys in she ordered her silence. Religious types...just touching her nearly burned her skin.

Morrigan had no desire to be quiet, but she knew it was sensible. She wanted to yell at Valence for leaving her behind and demand to know what he was doing about it. However, she refrained. Letting her temper boil over would be good for no one, least of all herself. The woman, Rhys, told Valence what was going on.

Morrigan couldn’t help the soft chuckle at the word ‘torture’. She wouldn’t argue, but it was likely passive torture compared to what Valence imagined.

There was a tap, and Morrigan turned her head to look. The glass shattered and the chains were broken. Morrigan backed away from the window, the sun, but a cloak was thrown over her shoulders. ‘You’re demented.’ This cloak was not going to be nearly enough. The curtains had been thick, but this cloak didn’t feel like it.

Then again, if there was a car right out there, she might make it.

Morrigan did glance back towards the door, though. A longing filled her to ignore the order and storm the hotel, but she decided it could wait. ‘They’ll move. They’ll leave.’

She had hunted people before. Veronica was already out the window, so Morrigan followed, bundling the cloak around herself and landing on her feet, though she nearly keeled forward.

Morrigan could deal with religious people, but the sun was a terrible foe, particularly with so little blood in her veins. Morrigan looked up enough to see the car, and she bolted inside it and shut the door behind herself. Though the windows were tinted, she didn’t relinquish the cloak.

~***~

Valence listened to what the woman on the other end said, “I’ve contacted some people, I can help this evening if you can—hello?”

There was no answer, “Hello?!” Valence tried again, but still nothing. Rhys had hung up. Valence pulled the phone away from his head and looked to Saimere, not certain if he ought to be furious or delighted. In that indecision, he silently offered the phone back, but his eyes were alert, watching Saimere carefully.

Veronica bashed her fist against the partition between herself and Mauro and they sped off.

"Who are you!? Where are you ta--" Rhys stammered, only to be met with, Veronica's strength. She simply bashed the girl in the head, knocking her unconscious. She lay on the floor of the car at their feet.

Any word of religion from the girl's mouth would've hammered her ears. She grabbed a few packets of blood once again from the cooler and offered them up.

"...here." she said, drinking one herself.

~***~

Saimere stared for a moment.

"...what happened?" Immediately he imagined Andrew storming in on Rhys, his mind picturing the worst.

It seemed that Veronica was upset. Morrigan observed her actions from underneath the hood, and noted that Rhys was knocked out. ‘Was that necessary?’ Not a question to ask right now. She’d see to it that Rhys was taken care of, since she had assisted her. She did try to look for signs of a severe injury, and she quietly hoped that Veronica would come to quickly.

Blood was offered, though, and Morrigan accepted them. “Thank you,” to Veronica and to this Rhys she owed a debt. She bit open the blood bag and drank the first quickly. Then, she reached down to where Rhys was and took the woman’s phone. She dialed the last number that had been called, figuring Valence was panicking due to the sudden dropped call.

“I’m all right,” she informed. “Veronica has gotten myself and Rhys out.” He was relieved. “All right. Good bye.” And she hung up, and placed the phone back on Rhys.

~***~

The phone wasn’t taken. Valence wasn’t sure how to answer Saimere, “I don’t know. She just hung up.” There was panic rising in his voice, but it was settled when the phone rang. He answered quickly, “Hello?”

Morrigan’s voice. His posture relaxed. “Oh, thank god,” he let out a sigh. “Then I’ll see you soon.”

The call ended there, and he looked back to Saimere, “Guess Veronica can stand the sun.” Lucky her.

Veronica hid her pain and bit down on her tongue to resist yelling.

The sun nearly burned her alive...but being pure was a double edged sword.

she could stand the sun for much longer, but the pain was greater.

Rhys stirred but didn't wake up. Veronica chuckled at the girl.

"I'm sure she will be fine...maybe a bruise. I didn't feel like hearing her talk..."

~***~

Saimere shook his head and paced the room.

"...no...She can't stand the sun. stupid girl is gonna get herself killed one day..." he sighed.

Eventually the limo pulled up into the driveway.

Mauro quickly got out and opened the doors for them to exit. though Rhys was just beginning to stir.

Mauro took off his own jacket, though not hardly big enough and wrapped it around Veronica's shoulders as she rushed into the house.

Rhys slowly climbed out of the car with a twinge and headache.

"ow...ow ow..."

Saimere rushed to her side.

"Rhys...!? what happened!?"

"You're vampire friend kidnapped me!" she complained.

Morrigan made no attempt to get in the way of Veronica’s hasty exit, nor did she get in the way of Rhys. Morrigan did move by Rhys quickly to get into the house, ignoring the stranger who greeted Rhys.

Within, it was easy to find Valence, who stood far from the door and the light of the sun. Morrigan shrugged out of the cloak once she was out of its rays as well, and Valence put a hand on her back and led her some distance aways. “What did they do? Are you all right?”

“Just starved me and made me uncomfortable in a curtained room.” Morrigan glanced around, said, “We’ll be going back tonight.”

“You’re kidding.”

She wasn’t, of course.

“They’ll know you’re gone. They’ll be prepared. They might have more of that poison that put you down.” It had happened quickly, too. Valence worried.

“I never said we’d be in plain sight.” Well, not to start with. “Humans burn just as easily as vampires.” Not as easily. “And I imagine Kairos is on his way as it is.” And Kairos would only see the destruction of the hunters who dared harm those he had brought into the family, “So we shall be fine.”

Veronica stood away from everyone, but with her cat in her arms, just listening. Their plans based off of their emotions.

Rhys pushed past Saimere quite angrily, looking between all these vampires...

"Saimere are you insane? You're surrounding yourselves with Vampires! You said all I had to do was help this one!" she nearly cried. Saimere shook his head stifling a laugh.

"She kidnapped me!" she stomped.

Veronica chuckled. "You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, blame Saimere's horrible planning."

Saimere glanced towards Morrigan and back to Rhys. "Well, at least you did a good job,"

"Yes, and now Andrew will think I released her! What am I supposed to do!? I don't want to be an enemy of the hunters!"

"Calm down girl, as far as this Andrew is concerned, you are either dead, or a contained victim." Veronica huffed.

Rhys was quite upset about the situation, perhaps for good reason. When she declared Saimere insane for hanging with vampires, Morrigan arched an eyebrow. If she was so opposed to their ilk, she shouldn’t have agreed to help Saimere in the first place.

Morrigan glanced to Saimere, then to Valence. Valence shook his head, answering the silent question. He wasn’t sure what to think of Saimere. As their conversation continued, Morrigan held out her hand, “Phone,” she no longer had hers.

Valence placed his phone in her hand, “Veronica doesn’t like us to use phones here.”

Morrigan frowned at that. She wanted to call Kairos to check in, and see if her suspicions were accurate. However, Veronica had just gotten her out of that hell hole with Andrew. She opted to refrain, but didn’t return Valence’s phone. “Would you prefer to be an enemy of vampires?” Morrigan asked Rhys dryly, wondering which enemies she wanted, since she was so opposed to having hunters as enemies.

She shook her head.

"I don't want anyone to be enemies."

"That's unrealistic." Veronica chimed in, petting Molly with care.

"So it may be, but I don't think all this violence is necessary!" Rhys countered, though her argument was shaky and based solely on her emotions. "It's just....a waste...just because the vampires are demons, doesn't mean they're monsters..but no one seems to understand that. Everyone just wants to kill each other."

Veronica paused..."You can't change the opinion of those who fear the night because of us. We need blood as much as you need water. The only issue, is how we harvest it."

Rhys sighed and crossed her arms. She couldn't see any possible way that this could be ended peacefully, especially with the Vampire Archimedes acting as an insurgent...selling them out.

"...It's hard but....I know there's a way...there has to be something we can all agree on."

"Yeah, all the damn hunters want to end all vampires and all vampires want to end all hunters." Saimere crossed his arms. Only reason he was going so far was because of Veronica, other than that he didn't care much for what happened to Morrigan or Valence. "With all that damn talking you do, maybe you can bore both sides to death, then all our problems will be solved." he teased.

"Leave me alone! This was your idea!" Rhys snapped back at him.

"Veronica, what about your dad, did you contact him?" Saimere averted his attention to Veronica who shrugged.

"Of course not, I couldn't care less if the hunters found him. You know that Saimere." she spoke with poison, her eyes became slender at the mere mention of him...Lord Lucian Pagan.

"He'd be upset if you left him out you know," he egged on until she raised her hand to shush him.

"Close your mouth. I'm tired of hearing you."

Morrigan almost laughed at Rhys’s declaration. Well, at least they were on the same boat. The unfortunate truth of the matter was that the hunters had made themselves the enemies of vampires by their chosen occupation. They refused to discriminate in who they hunted.

Topics shifted to Lord Pagan, and Morrigan rolled her eyes at the bitterness that was evident. Amazing Lord Pagan let Veronica represent him in these meetings, if there was such hatred. “We had intended to work with the hunters, Rhys,” Morrigan decided to remind her. “They attacked us in parley. We are not opposed to working with hunters in general.”

There were vampires that broke the rules they all tried to live by. If the hunters would discriminate and just hunt the troublemakers, life would be easier for all. Vampires like herself and Valence were no true threat to humanity. “But Andrew and his ilk will die. Lord Pagan may not show up, but Lord Kairos will.”

And Valence had already contacted plenty of allies, too. The hunters would fall in a night, no matter how prepared they were. “You could, perhaps, ensure other hunter groups don’t try such treachery in the future, Rhys, if you still wish to work with them. We were willing to negotiate.”

Rhys held herself.

"but...what am I supposed to say? no doubt they know I'm gone by now..."

Saimere shrugged.

"well you can either stay here or go back. they probably think you've been taken, like Veronica said."

Molly found her way to weaving through Valence's ankles, purring up at him.

"At any rate, children," Veronica started and wrapped up in a new cloak.

"I've got some business to take care of." she said and walked out the door.

"...I guess she's going to the her club." Saimere chuckled.

Valence noted the cat when she came over, and he bent down to pet it. He felt Morrigan’s judging look, but ignored it.

The need to stay in the room vanished as Veronica left. Morrigan also opted to leave the area, since there was nothing to do but wait until night. Valence noted her walk off. He looked towards the two mortals, the direction that Veronica went, and then Morrigan. Veronica had business, so she wouldn’t want to be disturbed.

He stood, made a clicking sound, “C’mon, Molly,” he’d go with Morrigan. At least plotting might occupy some time while they waited for night to fall, and he assumed Saimere and Rhys had their own things to sort out.

The cat followed happily behind Valence, staring up at him curiously. It had fun with someone new for a change.

"...mew."

Though the house looked like it was new with barely any furnishings, at the same time it was quite intricate. There was a subtle sense of superiority. Labyrinth like halls and a handful of locked, heavy oak doors. Rhys stared up at Saimere, as he had no real explaination. He was quite surprised at how frustrated she was with him.

"Don't be angry with me Rhys...I'm not the one who caused this to happen. Blame the vamps and their betraying kin." he said sourly.

"You aren't helping! we have to convince the hunters that the vampires aren't as bad as everyone says they are. I know some of them have got to be nice people. Some of them used to be humans once." she argued.

"Once upon a time, sure...but dammit Rhys, they're all pretty damn demonic if you ask me. Even if the hunters stopped exterminating them, the people would never accept them! What do you think would happen?" he snapped, grabbing her shoulders quite roughly.

"Leave me alone...I've got to go. I can't stay here, people will begin to worry!" She squirmed.

"If you go out there alone there's no telling what'll happen to you. Either you'll be seen as a traitor or you'll be hunted and bled dry, is that what you want!?"

she paused but her face was still quite frustrated.

"Let go of me already!"

"Not until you understand that now, you're stuck with me. You can't go back now Rhys."

"I said let go!"

"Do you understand!?" he snapped, shaking her. She stared into his eyes for a moment, as by now her arms would be quite red. She nodded slowly and yanked away, finding some room to sit in to wind down...and think about what to do next.
