[Vampire: The Requiem] Lords of Night

Can I have a Haven, at Char-Start, in perhaps the form of a Castle from the last time I was awake? Or even, one dating from /very/ far back, an Ancestral Home in the woods of Germany, an old ruin waiting to be reclaimed kind of thing?

That sort of land wouldn't remain unclaimed over 100-300 years. Even if you did own a castle before, it's long since been taken. Such an area can exist, but I'm not going to make you pay merit points for something you'll have to earn in game anyway

So no haven's or anything- gotcha. *Salute* Gives me more Merit Dots for things like Kindred Fighting Style, Parkour, and Riding the Wave. :)

Understood- and I.. err... was using the 4Page from that site, and it would.. it was weird, I think I had a glitch with my Foxxit. It would save the Text alterations, but not the Dot's. *Frowny Face* Like, it saved my name, the name of my disciplines- but not how many dots I had in those disciplines.

Here is Obtenebration for those of you willing to review it and help make it work as good as possible

Obtenebration (Note: This is just a rough draft and any or all of it may be subject to change)

All Obtenebration powers are affected by the following modifiers, based on current light conditions

Total Darkness: -1 (Pitch black room, underground tunnel)

Darkness: +2 (Cloudy moonless night, a building with the lights out)

Deep Shadows: +1 (Regular night)

Low-Light: +0 (Lit street, full moon, torches)

Bright: -1 (Bright indoor lights, filtered sunlight)

Daylight: Impossible

Shadow Play *

The vampire is at home in the darkness, and may whisper his will to the shadows around him.

Cost: None

Dice Pool: Wits+Intimidation+Obtenebration

Action: Instant

Duration: Scene

Roll Results:

Dramatic Failure The shadows rebuke the vampire, negating the passive effect of this power for the scene

Failure The shadows do not answer the vampire's call

Success The shadows change and bend. 16 square yards of shadows rearrange themselves into any shape the vampire desires. While they cannot block light or leave the surface they are projected on, they can be made into any unnatural shape the vampire desires. In addition to the creative uses of the power, all Stealth and Intimidation rolls that take advantage of the altered shadows gain a +2 dice bonus.

Dramatic Success The vampire may shape 25 square yards, and the benefit increases to +3

Passive The shadows hold no secrets for the vampire. Darkness does not hinder his vision at all. Additionally, while in Total Darkness, the vampire may see insubstantial spirits and other twilight entities.

Shadow Puppets **

At the vampire's bidding, the shadows may reach out from their twilight state and influence the real world.

Cost: 1 vitae

Dice Pool: Wits+Persuasion+Obtenebration(-Defense if used as an attack)

Action: Instant

Duration: Instant

Roll Results:

Dramatic Failure The shadows lash out at the vampire in anger. The storyteller may impose a -2 penalty on any roll during this scene as the shadows tug at and slow the vampire

Failure The shadows strain, but cannot reach reality

Success The shadows may perform any physical action a person would be capable of. The roll to activate the power acts as the result for whatever action the shadows seek to perform. Used as a weapon, they have a damage value of 1, but only deal bashing damage. This attack can be used against creatures comprised of shadows, insubstantial spirits and other twilight entities

Dramatic Success Typically, extra successes are their own reward, but if used as a weapon, the power inflicts Lethal damage

Shroud of Night ***

Darkness gathers around the vampire, gathering in strength in preparation for further tasks

Cost: 1 vitae

Dice Pool: Intelligence+Crafts+Obtenebration

Action: Instant

Duration: Scene

Roll Results:

Dramatic Failure The power succeeds, but the vampire loses all ability to see through darkness better than a mortal for the rest of the scene

Failure The shadows cannot answer the vampire's call

Success The current level of illumination within 4 yards weakens by one step on the Obtenebration table for a scene. This power still cannot reduce daylight.

Exceptional Success The level of illumination lowers by two steps, and the radius is increased to a number of yards equal to the successes rolled

Perambulum in Tenebris ****

The vampire steps into a shadow and emerges from another, traveling at the speed of darkness

Cost: 1 vitae

Dice Pool: Composure+Athletics+Obtenebration

Action: Instant

Duration: Instant

Roll Results:

Dramatic Failure The vampire attempts to enter the shadows, but is forced back. The power fails, and the vampire cannot move further this turn

Failure The shadows reach out to the vampire, but are too weak to carry him

Success The vampire vanishes and instantly reappears from any shadow that he can either see or knows the exact location of within (Successes*5) yards, provided the shadow is at least one square yard.

Dramatic Success As a normal success, but the vampire is instantly made aware of all shadows within range of the appropriate size

Shadow Form *****

The vampire's body melts into shadow, allowing the vampire to slide along walls, avoid notice and interact with insubstantial beings.

Cost: 2 Vitae

Dice Pool: Stamina+Subterfuge+Obtenebration

Action: Instant

Duration: Scene

Roll Results:

Dramatic Failure The vampire becomes a shadow, yet lacks power. He cannot move for the remainder of the scene, unless he successfully activates this power before then. His shadow form is still vulnerable to all attacks

Failure The vampire fails to assume a shadowy form

Success The vampire assumes a 2-dimensional shadow form

Dramatic Success The vampire assumes a 2-dimensional shadow form, but may move between this form and his normal form for 1wp without ending the power

While in Shadow Form, the vampire must stick to surfaces capable of supporting a shadow, but may otherwise move at his full Speed, may ignore gravity and may slip through the tiniest craft. The vampire may interact normally with beings made of shadows, insubstantial spirits and other twilight entities, but may not interact with the real world other than through Obtenebration powers, but is also immune to all damage other than fire or sunlight, unless they could interact with twilight entities. Patches of bright light are treated as solid barriers to the vampire.

By spending 1 vitae, the vampire may interact normally with the world until the start of his next action. Doing so also makes the vampire vulnerable to the actions of others, however.

Surrounding the shadow-form vampire with light such that there is nowhere he can appear immediately ends this power.

Cool. I have Gabriel Antonius statted out, working on his backstory at the moment. Do we want to get together in some way and work out how we interacted as a coterie during the height of Rome?

Myself and Unbridled have already started weaving each other in to the other's back stories- I suppose it would be best to get to work out how we worked as a full group, as well. Google Doc's anyone? :)

Yes, yes it is- what me and Unbridled where using. We've sort of reached a pause at "About to kill Unbridled's Sire."

I am a loyal beast, I most likely was a super slave or a guard, possibly a gladiator of some kind in rome.

I have extreme mommy issues, so I kill women. I was Jack the Ripper. I tend to serve those that awaken me, no matter how weak. When ever I wake up, women tend to die in droves, UNLESS MY master is a woman at the time.

I was put back down when the Prince of London essentionally hired Vampire Sherlock Holmes.

Kaza gave me a small write up in his own words.

"The stories known as "Jack the Ripper" are the tip of a dark, bloody iceberg. During the late 1880's, dozens of women were found murdered in violent displays. In a desperate attempt to keep the public from panicing, the police only revealed a single victim from each batch. Recognizing the signs of the Lord of Night known as $DARK_WIZARD, the Prince of London contracted the greatest detective of the underworld to find and stop the beast. What followed was a year-long game of cat and mouse, as each attempted to outwit and evade the other. In the end, the primal nature of the Lord failed to spot a trap, and he burned in the funeral pyre of his last victims. Despite the raging flames, the Lord's torpored body was recovered intact and sent to Westminster Abbey for safekeeping, where it was stored for more than a hundred years before vanishing mysteriously"

We've got one for my and Unbridled's Char- I think the one for the whole Coterie should be separate- but I'll get started setting it up.

Instead of just hating women, my guy imprints on his master, taking on their beliefs.

Without doing too much work on it, the fastest you could run as a BP5 vampire is...

5+5+5 (Str+Dex+Human)+1(merit)+5(Vigor)=21*6(Celerity)=126 speed ~= 172mph
