The Shape-shifting Master of Goatees and Darkness
Here we will post returning characters and upperclassmen. :) Remember this roleplay is meant to be focused on the freshman, so these are to be treated as NPCs. If you'd like to have upperclassmen or returning characters treated as main characters I will refer you to the google docs we use for a place to post them. The timelines DO intertwine.

NOTE : This is a sophomore character now, but I left it the way her CS was as a freshman to give an example of what I'm expecting from the CS. It doesn't have to be as pretty as this, but the content is what I'm looking for (side note she is a character you can plan and plot with though she won't be a main character in most of the freshmen interactions )

Each of the Written Paragraphs are to the left (background, persona, appearance) and the lists are to the right.

Background
"Aloha. Au makemake e ia i ka pono. No kekahi e komo i loko o koʻu alanui."
Kinipela Kimberly Palakiko, the second of three children born to the lovely union of Captain Kimberly Alexandra Masoli-Palakiko and Jeremiah Konani Masoli-Palakiko. Her mother was a Navy Fighter Pilot who had ended up stationed in Hawaii before falling in love with one of the natives. When they married, they wasted no time in having children.

Her mother having a career in the military meant that Kinni was without her mother most of the time, though she did enjoy the rest of her Hawaiian family and siblings. Her life was relatively mundane for a local growing up on Molokai, living much of a rural life. Her Hawaiian family was always resentful of her mother for not being local, though it was a bit hypocritical since her father was a child out of wedlock of Samoan and Hawaiian descent.

Her mother's absence would take a toll on her father who would degrade into an alcoholic and abandon his kids altogether. When her father went MIA, their mother wasted no time in getting them and taking them to the mainland. Still absent most of the time, her elder brother Jacobi dropped his dreams of being a pro surfer like his father once was and pro footballer, and began to raise his siblings full time. This led to a feeling of abandonment from her parents, and she focused all of her energy on becoming the best at everything she did.

She got into sports, playing basketball, soccer, and volleyball, but her attention was drawn by cheerleading in high school. There was no other activity like cheerleading that said 'look at me' for the teenage girl. So despite her basketball coach's urges, she dropped basketball and became a cheerleader. Yet it didn't seem like enough....she always felt like she was missing something...

She found out what she was missing her Junior Year in High School when she stumbled onto a fashion show. She loved everything. Modeling, designing clothes, being seen and adored for her fashion. So since that day, she became hip to all of the latest trends. She also started to come up with some crazy ideas of her own and after getting her hands on a sewing machine...she began to sell her own line.

Coming into Dubois on a cheerleading scholarship, most of her friends and family thought she was coming to school to cheerlead, but what she was really came to Dubois for was to push her line 'Waves by Kinni'

Thoughts
"Year 2, yerrrrrrr I'm cheerleading my ass off."

Persona
Insecurities run rampant through this teenage bipedal mammal and surfaces often in nasty characteristics. A cheerfully sweet girl by nature and resident clown, many would be surprised to find the nasty name-calling that Kinni could find herself doing. A nasty girl with a 'holier than thou' attitude, that seems to find her way into schemes to get ahead. Though most people see her as the sweetheart, anyone who has gotten too close has been witness to her talons.

She is a hardworking girl, between cheerleading and volleyball (and her fashion line of course), always doing everything she can to be at her best, to be the best. She is persevering and does her best to try hard and be patient with her growth. She is mostly selfless, not hesitating to often give up her lunch to someone who is less fortunate. She has the patience of a saint when it comes to things she's working on, and usually can turn out perfection in a relatively short time.

Her jealousy sometimes overshadows her good nature, though she is very adept at hiding her schemes. Manipulating and playing her way through life as a game of chess. Her desire to be the best, her desire to achieve greatness seems to be crazy. She is an odd girl, who often watches anime and eats the weirdest dishes in her free time. She hadn't eaten fast food since she was 5 (though she isn't opposed to fast food type food, just not the commercialized, preservative filled things they sell) and tends to love cooking for people as much as she loves eating.

Appearance
You call her a model and she'll deny it, but deep down she enjoys the attention that her model physique brings her. Long legs have her standing tall above many of those who surround her. Her Dark Oak brown eyes similar to the color of the trees from her mother's home in Georgia, compliment her honey roasted golden caramel skin. Her luscious lips paired with her strong nose and jawline, are a testament to her mother's African roots. Her hair texture varies through her large head of hair, from kinky and curly to straight and curly, but is predominantly kinky and curly. Her skin is seemingly flawless, blemishes and pimples being almost clear as the cloudless day.

Her appearance isn't perfect, her athletic history has come with its pitfalls including knee and ankle surgery. that has left a few scars. There are also plenty of scars on her upper left arm, but most of those are covered up by her half sleeve tattoo. She also isn't the most proportionate of people, having thick thighs, small waist, and thick legs but a skinny upper half and a small bust size.

Tattoos of all kind cover most of her body, but can't really be seen when she has clothes on. A little of her tattoo on her front can be seen when she wears something that shows off cleavage, or shorts because of leg tattoos that reach below her knees. All of her tattoos mean something and was done the traditional tribal way and she is very proud of them.

Character's thoughts about themselves
"Call me whatever you want. Prude, stick in the mud. I don't care. Hard work is the only way to get anywhere.

Johari takes it as a compliment when people tell her she has a stick up her ass. It means she's doing something right. She knows she's not much fun, she knows she doesn't get out enough, she just doesn't care. In her eyes, she's driven and keeps her eyes on the prize that matters. Success. She's got nothing against those who like to spend their free time having fun, she just thinks she'll go further in life than they will.

Psych Eval
Johari has a bit of a big ego. She might not say it outwardly but she believes she's a cut above those around her. To the point, and very stand offish, Johari isn't very approachable, and that's the way see likes it. When given a task, she's determined and will stop at nothing until she gets it, not letting any obstacle stop her.

While very focused on her work and schooling, she does still have feelings for the very people that are very close to her. In her mind, being her friend is an honor because you have to be quite special in order for her to use any of energy or time on you. She'd never say that out loud, but that's she feels. While her determination and focus has gotten her pretty far in life, the same can't be said for her hubris. Sometimes she gets in over her head and over estimating herself. She's faced defeat before and doesn't take it well in the slightest.

Bio
Johari hails from New York and is the youngest daughter of her rather successful parents. Her father is a lawyer and her mother is a real estate agent. From the outside looking in, the Turners seemed like the perfect family. A lovely townhouse in the heart of New York city, a mother and father with high paying jobs, and three children. A handsome son, and two beautiful daughters. Everything about them was picture perfect. But the thing about pictures is that you never see beyond the surface. The truth about the Turners went deeper than what people saw of them in public or in their yearly Christmas cards. The truth was that Johari's parents were relentless in the way they tried to drive their children towards success. Their philosophy was that education and a obtaining a good career was superior to other aspects of life. While the Turner children were allowed some recreational freedoms in exchange for hard work, there learned very quickly that prepping for their future was going to be a priority if they wanted their parents approval, which they craved more and more as they got older. The need for approval and validation from their parents became a competition for the Turner siblings, and a cutthroat one at that. Johari secretly envies those that have a good relationship with their siblings, as she recalls hers being nothing more than a race to the top. They never needed to worry about having money in their account. So as long as they were on top of everyone else, their parents took care of their expenses. Making sure they always

Being the youngest, one would think that Johari would be the one to get cut the most slack. However, that couldn't be further from the truth. If anything, the most pressure was put on Johari because she was the youngest. By the time she was in middle school, her older brother and sister had already graduated from high school as valedictorians with a number of achievements under their belts and scholarship after scholarship being offered to them and college throwing themselves at their feet. By the time they graduated, her brother had become a CEO and her sister had become a psychologist. They'd set the bar high and left Johari behind to deal with her parents, on her own. Not that she had much companionship in the first place.

Johari struggled to find something she loved that would also please her parents. She knew that they were pulling for her to become a lawyer or at least a doctor. But the one thing she'd promised herself was that while she wanted her parents approval, she was in no way going to commit herself to studying something she hated just to go in a career field she wanted nothing to do with. She'd tried looking into everything. Business, medicine, law, science., politics. She went on and on until finally, she found her niche in the form of an article she wrote for her school's news paper that she had more fun with than she probably should have. It then that she realized her passion for journalism. Only problem was that she knew her parents wouldn't be as excited about it as she was. With the shoes her parents had left to fill, she figured she have to become a literal rocket scientist to earn any approval from them. There much back and forth on the day she told her parents the career she was going to pursue. After a long debate and a lot of them trying to sway her in a different direction, they finally came to an agreement. Johari would be able to study journalism at a school of her choice with her parents paying all her expenses, but she had to remain at the top of all her classes. That meant Dean's List every semester. No more than one B each term. She'd need internships, her name in the school paper. She needed to prove to her parents that she was worth their investment. Otherwise, they'd cut her off in the blink of an eye and leave her to fend for herself.

Character's thoughts about themselves
"I'm fine as wine and loving it. People say I'm too much of this or not enough of that, but me? I think I'm just enough of everything, honey."

Celeste loves herself. Some people may say she loves herself a bit too much, but to her there's no such thing. From the majestic curls of her thick hair, to the plumpness of her lips and the deep dark brown color of her eyes and skin, to way her body moves when she hears a good beat, she believes that she is truly perfect the way she is, and that no one is ever going to take that away from her.

Psych Eval

Celeste has never been known as one of the calmest people around. This isn't just in reference to her rather short temperature, but to her overall outgoing attitude. Celeste likes to try and live everyday for the fullest, and if she can help it, not take a single moment for granted. After coming so close to losing her life as a child, she realized that life can be taken away from you in the blink of an eye. So she makes time to enjoy things, whether it's the little ones like dancing in her kitchen to her favorite Lauryn Hill song, or the big ones like preforming on stage and seeing the world.

Even in moments when she wants to fall apart, Celeste does her best to exude confidence at all times. Preferring to never come off as weak or close to giving in, she puts on her brave face and toughs through it. Sometimes, her small stature confuses people. Leads them to think that can talk to her and treat her however they want, believing she'll be complicit. But this is far from the truth. She has a low tolerance for respect and is quick to let others know that as well and sometimes goes back and forth with others for longer than the situation calls for. She'll tell you that in her defense, she just doesn't like to back down or let anyone get away with hurting her. But that's mostly just a cover for her being unable to admit defeat. On top of being so outgoing, she's also rather brash. While she is rather sensible on a day to to day basis, whenever things get hectic or even dangerous, she acts on the first thing that comes to mind, which is often times rather extreme. Some examples being reacting violently or destructively when she's fired up enough.

Despite how brash she is, how outgoing she is and how much she loves to party, at her core Celeste is still very emotional and needs more support than she'd like to admit. At the end the day, sometimes she just wants to be held. Someone to bare her soul too. Someone she trusts enough talk about the night terrors has of the horrible thing that happened to her as a child or someone who won't judge her for how paranoid she gets during storms. She's always there for her friends, willing to fight for them and be by their side, she just needs to let her guard down enough and lay down her sword so someone who;s willing can do the same for her.

In depth background

Celeste was born to Nadine and Julius one a sweltering summer day down in New Orleans, Louisiana. Nadine being an immigrant from Haiti, and Julius being a first generation Haitian American. Her father and mother loved each other, although that was something she had to continuously remind herself of with the way they bickered sometimes. She was from two worlds. Someone on the outside would think were the same, but in reality were completely different. Celeste found herself caught between two different worlds that she loved dearly. Her mother raised to her to be able to speak kreyol backwards and forwards, unlike her father. By the time she was 14 she could make diri kole with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back. Every meal she cooks has a rice dish and every January 1st, she's celebrating with a bowl of soup joumou. When they were able, Celeste's mother made sure her daughter got to see her home land. They would travel to Haiti when possible and she'd really see just how different her mother's and father's upbringings were.

While she loved everything about her Hatian roots, she loved the culture she grew up from her father's side as well. He was one who would try and get her out of going to mass some some days so they could have ice cream and go to the park. He was the one who gave her permission to get a tattoo that she promptly had to have removed. Despite the tug of war she was in the middle of growing up, she grew up to be a perfect blend both her mother and father, even if they still have trouble being on the same page themselves sometimes.

Celeste is able to look back on the better part of her childhood rather fondly. She was the only child of her parents, but if no one had told her otherwise, she'd think that her many cousins were all her brothers and sisters. Her family was pretty close knit despite being so large. She was always able to count on having a few of them in her class, much to the chagrin of whoever was teaching them. Her childhood was like any other. It had it's tears and laughter. It's scrapped knees and fun filled family nights. She thought that's what life would be like, a few ups, a few downs but in the end things work out. She never thought that she would lose everything in just one day...until she did. Towards the end of August in 2005, her hometown of New Orleans was hit by a hurricane that claimed the lives of close to 2000 people, and those who did survive were left to make their way thorough a living hell. Celeste, at the age of nine, was one of these people. She doesn't like to recall the details very much. The bitter taste of the water as it filled her lungs. The dread when asking around for family members she hadn't heard from in days. The grief when she realized that some of them, she would never see again.

After the storm, she and her parents left New Orleans behind and moved to New York to live with her aunt, who'd opened her home to them after they lost their's. Being taken away from her home was both good and bad for Celeste. She'd left behind the horrors that she now acquainted with New Orleans, but now she was in a new place where hardly anything was familiar to her. Celeste was a shell of herself. If she'd had doubts about a God before, they were certainties now. Nothing about her was the same as before. Her appetite was almost non-existent, she never got out of bed unless she was physically forced too. She never laughed or smiled. Some days she wouldn't even speak. She went through the motions of going to school and coming home, but for while she felt nothing. That is until one day when her class took a trip to see a ballet at a theater. Despite her not wanting to go, Celeste's aunt urged her to, saying that she may enjoy it. Eventually she agreed to attend, and from that day on her life changed. She didn't just like the ballet, she fell in love with it. Something about the way the dancers moved, the way the music and the movements told a story. The grace and beauty of it all had drawn her in, and given her a new drive in life.

That night, she returned home and begged her parents to allow her to take dance classes. Relieved that she had passion again and wanted to do something, her parents agreed. From that day forward, Celeste, her parents, and her aunt put in the work needed for her to pursue her dream. She began taking ballet classes and as soon as she was able, she got a job so she could help pay for them. What followed in the next for years was a passion, maybe even an obsession with dance. It became more than just a talent, a hobby or a passion; it became her outlet for emotions. For her grief, her joy, her fear. Dance became her everything.

After all the years spent grieving, Celeste began to find happiness again and see the good things in life. While she's still haunted by her past as evident by her nightmares and flashbacks, she's doing her best to move on and keep the new purpose she's found in life.
