Fantasy Unnatural Academy

A huge, booming voice erupted from Todd, magically enhanced enough to blow away anyone close by.

"I SAID IF YOU HAVE TO ASK YOU'RE TOO YOUNG TO KNOW!"

He scampered away, laughing, and out the gym.

"Woo-hoo, woo-hoo, woo-hoo!"

I watch a bit surprised. "Jeez that was loud.....Ugh sound control please. " I watch Todd run out of the gym and sigh heavily. "That....was certainly something.....Oh jeez."

"AH!" I flew away a few feet and smashed into the wall. "...Owwie..." I fell back and rubbed the back of my head. "Goofball..." I mumbled, my ears were still ringing from the unexpected, magically enhanced yell. I slumped to my knees and rubbed my head, trying to make the now-present headache go away. "What does he mean that if I don't know, I'm too young...? I'm nineteen..."

I push off the wall and walk over to Joe holding out a hand to help him up. "Hey that looked like it hurt like hell. Can you even hear me at the moment?" I gave a slight chuckle.

"Um... what looks like a bell? Also, I don't think that bears ferment!" I took her hand and spoke a little louder than I should have... I... really hoped that I didn't have permanent hearing damage...

I chuckle quietly pulling Joe up to his feet and patting his back. "I take that as a big no then considering those comments." I shake my head quietly. "He didn't have to do that honestly. That was way too childish."

"What was that about Mikkish?" I tilted my head, completely confused... Gah... why won't the ringing stop...? I kept rubbing my temples, willing for the headache to pass on.

I hit my head to my forehead and bring out my cellphone typing in a message in the chatbox and showing Joe what I typed. 'Your hearing is seriously messed up from that I hope you know."

I read what was on the screen and nodded. "I know, but hopefully it isn't anything permanent, I'm sure I'll be fine, it was just a joke, I'm sure. I don't think he'd hurt anyone on purpose over a joke." I hoped that he knew the amount of decibels he had used with that... and the amount that would be needed to blow out someone's eardrums...

I nod my head quietly erasing the message and taking the time to type another showing my screen again. 'Honestly I really don't think so considering he did that only to yell that phrase out. It was pretty unnecessary. He only had to speak up to be audible not blow you away."

"I think that was the joke in and of itself." I rubbed the back of my head. "I guess he wanted to pack more of a punch than just yelling it into my ear... especially with the chance I might just grab him and make him explain why he's wearing a collar."

I put my phone away and tried talking to see if his hearing was any better. "That's no real excuse to blow someone's eardrum and hurt them to be honest. Not an honestly nice thing to do. Didn't even check to see if you were alright before running away. Sorry but I don't care much for people who do that to generally nice people."

"Awww, and here I snuck back here just to check on Joey and you make these oh so dreadful accusations at me!" Todd exclaimed from behind Rue. "I'm hurt, so hurt." He sniffs dramatically. "Oh, the pain in my heart!"

I glare at Todd with a frown. "Oh sorry for hurting your non-existent feeling you childish prick." I turn my back to him and sigh looking to Joe. "No bruises though right? If there are I'm sure there's a nurse on campus."

"He should be fine," Todd said. "These walls are supposed to absorb most blows done to it to help the students, in case they get knocked into it. Might have some minimal bruises, nothing above a couple of whip strikes, at most."

He studied Joe for a bit.

"You are okay, right?"

The ringing was beginning to clear from my ears and I had managed to hear Rue well enough. "It's... fine." I smiled. "I'm used to people being like that... it tends to just be defense mechanisms, you know? They might be kind people at heart, but they just put up barriers to keep others away length. Well, in my case it was probably more about being afraid of what they don't understand or just years of prejudice ingrained on them by their role models growing up. In this case, he might just have taken a prank a little too far... it was kind of funny, anyway."

I couldn't help but chuckle as he popped up behind Rue not long after. "It's fine, really Rue, don't need to be rude." I smiled at Todd. "Yeah, I'm A-Okay... uh... did you say something about whips...?" I put one hand on my chin and tilted my head, wondering if my hearing was still just messed up.

"No," Todd said, a mischievous glint in his eye. He tapped the scar across his nose, and continued with "well, that was fun, anyone want ice cream?"

I give a heavy sigh. "I'm up for ice cream. But still dude chill with your practical jokes. Not everyone deals well with that kind of humor kay?"

"Of course," Todd said. "I'd never do a practical joke to someone who couldn't take it without reason!" He walked out, grinning, arms behind his head. "What kind of ice cream do you guys like?"

"Um... okay." I had the distinct feeling he was messing with me, and I could tell from the look on his face that he probably was. Now I was curious about the scar and the collar... I didn't want to ask again, my head was still pounding from the little blast. "U-Uh... okay." I smiled, I walked after him. "Um... I like vanilla..." I rubbed the back of my head.

I follow the two with a sigh. "Well alright. What kind do I like. I guess fruity sorbets opposed to ice cream. Probably lemon is my favorite. Why do you ask?"

Before Mikhail could say anything Todd had begun a sparring match with Joe so he sat back down to watch. He wasn't paying much attention to what they were saying afterwords but what did get him was when Todd suddenly let out an unexpected yell, since his hearing was much more sensitive than a normal person's thanks to his wolfish ears the effect on him was a bit more severe. He yelped and brought his hands up over his ears to cover them. He doubled over and remained like that, a faint whimpering could be heard by anyone nearby.

Todd went up to Mikhail, mentally kicking himself.

"Shit, shit, I didn't realize. I'm so sorry. Are you okay? It should fade..."

After a few moments Mikhail pulled his hands off his ears, letting them go back up. The flicked and turned a bit experimentally as he looked back up to see Todd there "I'll...I'll be fine" he went to stand up and stumbled. His head hurt from the intense pain the sound had caused but like Todd said, it was slowly fading.
