Realistic or Modern Unity of the Gifted

Alexandria

I kept coughing weakly, my pale frame stained by random flecks of blood caused by the coughing. My wrist was swelling quickly and was darkening with a bruise in the shape of the boys hand. Not long after, emergency services arrived. By that point, I could hardly breathe, and I'd been shaking hard for a few moments.

(Hey I'm sooo sorry. It won't happen again I promise)

Elena took in a deep breath. Just what was Daichiro expecting? What could she show him? As she turned over these thoughts in her mind, she was suddenly cut off by the piercing sound of an alarm. Just when she thought she'd had enough of those peak things for today. But why were they going off now? Was it a fire drill? Daichiro looked up at her, evidently just as confused, and made a move for the door, but stopped when his phone let out a loud tone. Elena saw him check his text, before his eyes widened slightly, and without a second glance, he sprinted out of the classroom.

'Hey! Daichiro! Wait-where are you going!?' She yelled after the dark-haired boy, yet he didn't so much as hesitate. Jesus. What is with this guy? Knowing that her distinct lack of stamina would fail her once again, she set off after him at a steady place. When Elena made plans with people, she generally didn't expect them to take off halfway through. Whatever text Daichiro had received, it was obviously something important.

Her steps led her out of the school grounds before her strength began to fail her, and she collapsed, defeated, against a tree for thirty seconds or so. She panted heavily, and she could feel the sweat forming under her choppy fringe. Nonetheless, she started up again as soon as her muscles weren't burning, but Daichiro was nowhere to be seen. Focusing her mind, she found out that he had turned right a few streets on, and began to run once more. She had only run a few yards when her mind was intercepted by a brilliant flash of white light, consuming her thoughts. What is this? I've only been in this school a few days, and already things are getting weird left, right and centre. Could this be Daichiro? No-this vision didn't feel quite like the ones he had projected...

Elena stumbled blindly through the white space, but her disoriented steps were no match for the illusion. Her legs gave way and she fell, hard, on the pavement, her face scraping on the concrete, but her mind too blank to notice.

Daichiro walked silently along the street, partially out of breath and getting a headache for using his power so aggressively. He knew the repercussions of such actions, as using telekinesis was always a strain on his mind, but he did it anyway.

... But why?

True, miss Alexandria was his friend now but should that warrant such a violent reaction? He nearly killed those boys for what they did, but they didn't deserve that bad of punishment. Sure, they were impure in their intentions but still... He almost killed them.

He was brought out of his thoughts, however, when he looked up and saw miss Elena face down on the concrete. He dashed ahead, gently picking her head up and cradling it in the crook of his left arm as he closed his eyes and scanned her thoughts.

... She'll be alright...

Indeed she would, but she was still feeling the effects of what he knew was miss Alexandria's power. He released a soft sigh as he reached into her mind.

Miss Elena, it's Daichiro. Listen to me, you should be free of the effects of this very soon. Just relax. I'll be right here with you until you manage to shake it off, he communicated to her.

I was taken to a hospital when emergency services came. They had Daichiro's cousin come with me so there was someone present, and explained my disease to her, along with the fact that I had a broken wrist.

When she came in to see me, I was hooked up to a lot of moniters, there was am oxygen tube for me and an IV hooked in my arm.

Considering the fact that it hurt to walk, it was killing Philippa to run.

She'd been watching out of the window as first, a boy ran out of the school. He was quickly followed by a girl. Philippa quickly got the feeling that something was going on- a strange prickly feeling on the back of her neck. Slowly, she rose from her seat. And then, she grabbed her bag and ran from the classroom, an impulsive move that she knew she'd regret later.

She tore out of the school like a dragon was chasing her and down the street. It was only as she turned the corner that she got a very bad vibe. That was when the bizarre blankness hit her and she stopped where she was, frowning in confusion. It only lasted a few seconds before it passed and she blamed it on tiredness.

She heard sirens nearby and her pace slowed. If her help had been required, which she doubted, it certainly wasn't required anymore. She stopped where she was and doubled over, breathless. That was when she saw the dark haired boy and the girl further down the street. Her eyes widened and she limped over.

"Is... Is she okay?" Philippa found herself asking, "What happened? What's going on?"

Daichiro continued to cradle miss Elena's head in the crook of his arm as he looked up at a new face who asked if she was alright.

"She will be alright. As to what's happening, well... Let's just say it's complicated and personal to someone who was affected by this event the most," he said.

After a while, she left the hospital to find Daichiro to let him know where we were done she had his phone. When she saw him holding a fallen girl, she ran over.

I was laying there only a few moments after she left when I flat lined. My body automatically exploded my power outward, a way for calling for help, clouding everyone's vision with complete emptiness. Even those at the school and those on the other side of town were affected.

Slowly, the whiteness began to fade, along with a dull ache which was ebbing away slowly in her head. Elena opened her eyes a crack, and saw an all-too-familiar pair of eyes staring down at her. As always, his expression was unreadable.

How long have I been out...? All of a sudden she became aware that somebody's arm was supporting her, and it didn't take long to realise that it was Daichiro's. Abruptly Elena bolted upright. What had overcome her, to pass out just like that? She didn't like to think of herself as being weak. She was just caught off guard, she told herself. Slowly, she passed her eyes over the extra person who had arrived while she was out. In addition to Daichiro, a girl with white-blonde hair was peering anxiously at her. She recognised her-it was the girl who had been insecure about losing her gloves the day before.

'What?' Elena snapped, smoothing down her short, ruffled hair. She already had one person involved in her business, and it was still one too many.

Daichiro was starting to get flustered as miss Elena finally woke up and asked how long she'd been out.

I don't know how long you were out, but it looks like at least ten minutes. He communicated.

Daichiro stood up, shaking off the white from his mind as he had before by again focusing the bulk of his power inward to protect himself from miss Alexandria's gift. Saeko had delivered his phone and told him that she was taken by paramedics, so Daichiro was satisfied with that. He let Saeko return home as he addressed the two girls.

"It seems that quite a lot has happened, so I'll inform you of what little I know."

He turned to face both miss Elena and the new arrival, whom he remembered from the other day.

A friend of mine, miss Alexandria, was attacked by hooligans and, out of mental desperation, unleashed her own gift. It is a form of telepathy similar to my own, but her power allows her to send and receive visuals such as a blank white world which we have all been subjected to today. It provided enough of a veil to protect her from the worst of her attackers efforts until I arrived to help her. She was taken to the hospital a short time ago, and in her sleep her power once again was unleashed hence the second wave of white. He communicated mentally to the both of them.

"That is about everything," he said.

Do forgive the mental intrusions, but some things are best spoken of in silence.

He glanced between them.

"Are you both alright?" He finally asked (perhaps not the most tactfully).

A nurse stumbled into the room and found me, giving me CPR, despite being unable to see. Once I began to breathe on my own again, the white faded from their minds.

The nurse called the phone that Saeko held. "Miss? I think toy need to get over here. The girl you brought in, her heart stopped beating for a few moments..." the voice on the phone was loud enough for them all to hear.

Daichiro's phone went off, and as he opened it he put the device to his ear and listened to the nurse's words.

"..."

He closed the phone.

"It seems miss Alexandria's heart stopped for a few moments, and the nurse would like me to visit. I think it best to take her up on the request. If you two are alright you should go back to school. The alarms and evacuations should be ending soon. If not, I'm sure miss Alexandria would appreciate the company."

Alexandria

She bustled around the room, tidying it up as she waited to see if he'd come. They injected something in my arm to help slow the speed it was beating at so I wouldn't flat line again. My eyes fluttered open after a while.

Philippa had long ago forgotten that she was supposed to be freaking out. So much had happened in the past five minutes- she'd learnt so much in the past five minutes- that her brain couldn't process it.

"Right. School." she looked down, tugging nervously at her gloves.

Mentally, she made a list of what she'd just discovered:

1. Some girl called Alexandria had a major telekenetic freak out and was in hospital.

2. The boy in front of her, had telepathy.

3. The girl on the ground clearly had an attitude problem.

4. She wasn't alone. She wasn't the only one with supernatural abilities.

Philippa exhaled, slowly. She thought hard about everything she'd been to,d and decided to fact check.

"So... You're a telepath." she pointed to the boy, "Some girl named Alexandria made everything go white. Okay, why not? I mean, it's not like things could get any weirder at this point." She laughed, shakily.

Philippa pushed her hair out of her face with one hand and clipped it back into place. Then, she smiled lightly.

"It's nice to finally meet my people."

Elena stared at Daichiro and the girl with white hair. Not only was there one other psychic besides her at this school, there were three? Was everyone at this school in possession of supernatural powers? It was a little too much to take in. She felt like she might pass out again at any minute now, so she decided to just go with it. So. I just started high school in Japan a few days ago, and now me and my telepathic buddies are having a get-together in the middle of the road. There is nothing odd about this situation at all.

With a scowl on her face, Elena stood up quickly, planning to play it cool and walk out of there as if nothing had ever happened. She'd never have to talk to any of these people again. However, her plans were quickly foiled-she stood up too quickly and promptly tumbled to the ground again, knocking the other girl over as she did so. A mortified blush spread across her cheeks-how had she managed to embarrass herself so spectacularly? Angrier than ever, she picked herself off and stormed off without an apology. This was the last time she ever intended to involve herself with other people.

Daichiro watched miss Elena storm off, chuckling softly to himself.

We might be a strange bunch, but we're the only ones who will ever understand you miss Elena, he communed privately to her.

With that, Daichiro began walking the other way towards the hospital. He needed to make sure miss Alexandria was alright. If the new arrival followed him or went back to school was up to her, but right now he was focused on reaching the hospital.

When he arrived, he asked for miss Alexandria's room and when he got there he opened the door very quietly. He saw that miss Alexandria was waking, slowly, and so he stood beside her bed and remained silent. He didn't want to press his luck with her condition. Instead, he simply stood there, watching her as calmly as he was able given the machines hooked up to her.

My eyes slowly traveled to where he was standing. I blinked slowly, feeling as if everything about me was in slow motion, but everything else was going the normal speed. "There's a few drugs in her system, so she may be slightly out of it for a while. Are you two related?"

She said this while drawing a vial of blood and charting my heart rate. I winced as she injected something into my IV.

Daichiro's words echoed in Elena's mind throughout all her classes that day. As much as it stung her to admit it, he was probably right. She thought back-when was the last time she'd had a proper friend? It saddened her more than it should have to realise that she couldn't remember. She'd been an odd child, and when her actions became more reckless and dangerous, people started to stay away with her. And she'd told herself that she was fine with that. Wasn't she?

Daichiro looked to the nurse.

"No, we're not related. She's a friend from school," he said.

Emily

She nodded and kept chattels away at him. After a few more moments, the haze from my my mind cleared up some. "How'd you know I was here?" I asked slowly, my voice as soft as a whisper.

Daichiro looked down.

"Your power, whether you were conscious of it or not at the time, erupted quite violently. From what I've been hearing, it was felt as far away from where you were as the school. A field of emptiness and nothing but white engulfed our vision, and I was only able to find you by forcing it out. But you didn't make it easy on me." He said, a slight smile on his lips.

He put his finger to her lips to silence anything she might say.

"Just close your eyes and rest now. You need it. I'll be around if you need me. Just call," he said, leaving his number for her on the table next to her bedside.

With that Daichiro left her room quietly and returned home. He didn't feel like returning to school. He had too much on his mind to focus on school work anyway. He knew that there were no quizzes in his classes today, so he'd be fine if he missed a bit of in class reading. Reading was one thing he did well anyway outside of his abilities.

I sighed and laid there, starting at the blank wall above me for a while, trembling slightly. I wanted to sleep, but I couldn't force myself to do so. The nurse brought in a tray of food, but I simply ignored it, deep in thought. After a while, I picked up the slip of paper he'd laid beside me, starting at the handwriting for a while.

After a long time, I fell asleep, the paper still held tightly in my hand.

That next morning, Daichiro rose from bed and lazily made his way to the shower before breakfast. As he made it to the table, Saeko asked about Alexandria to which Daichiro replied she'd be fine. Given her body's reaction to what had happened thus far, he wasn't at all surprised that she would need time to recover, but she was recovering nicely already if she could wake in the same day as such a powerful burst of power emerged. The first time Daichiro's power exploded like that, he was out for two days.

Alexandria was tougher than she looked.

Daichiro meandered to school and took his seat in the back of the class as always, watching and waiting for the lectures to end so he could mark what his homework was and go to the hospital to check on miss Alexandria.

His vision blurred out and changed again, even as I slept. I couldn't control my powers after keeping them dormant for so long.

I tossed and turned in my sleep as he seemed to be in Ireland now, sitting for tea in my old home as a doctor explained my condition, though he heard none of the doctors words.

Daichiro finished his day at school and made his way to the hospital. Once visiting hours were open he walked into her room and sat down quietly in a chair near to her bedside.

She seemed calm enough given the circumstances, but given how much power she used and how her body wasn't used to it, the physical and mental strain must have been worse than he thought to keep her here for more than a day. He remembered the first time his power did this to him when he was young, he slept for two days but never needed the hospital.

Still, he sat beside her watching calmly as she went back and forth between consciousness and sleep before pulling out one of the text books and reading the assigned chapter material for the quiz coming up next week.

I woke slowly and saw him beside me. I tried to sit up, struggling to do so. Another untouched tray was taken out of my room a second later, replaced by another full tray of food that I ignored. I hadn't eaten since before I met Daichiro. I struggled into a sitting position and watched him for a moment. He didn't notice me yet.
