I'd love to play L5R and can play Thursdays. I've never played before but it's been on my list of systems to try.

I will be out of state until next week. We will discuss details and concepts then. The game is confirmed as l5r on Thursdays

So we meet up to talk about it in chat next thursday I guess?

Well, since I have a moment with nothing to do, I'll do a quick writeup of the current status of the Clans and Factions in order to help people decide which they want to vote for

Crab - Crab Clan was one of the first to realize the implications of the loss of the Emperor, and was the second to launch an attack on rival Clans. Allying with Mantis, Crab has already conquered several minor clans that stand between them and Crane, and have seized some of Crane's southern lands. Their new position may bring them into conflict with Lion and Unicorn over Scorpions old lands, and may be the new element needed to break that stalemate. Despite this, the Wall remains manned, a fact that limits Crab's ability to project force against the other clans.

Crane - Crane was greatly weakened by the war with the shadow. Previously, the artisan clan had thrived with the protection of the Emperor. With that gone, they find themselves understrength and spread thin. They have lost several of their southernmost holdings to Crab, and only the ongoing war with Unicorn has prevented Lion from attacking their middle. On top of that, they have been hit hardest by the Mantis raids, and are turning their attention to the sea in order to wrest control away from the peasant upstarts who dare call themselves a clan.

Dragon - Dragon has not yet entered this new war, as they are embroiled in a secret internal conflict of their own. The Lying Darkness has taken root amongst the Dragon Clan, and is struggling against those it has not yet corrupted. At the moment both sides favor secrecy - the Lying Darkness does not wish for Rokugan to unite against it, and the Dragon Clan does not wish to be branded as tainted by a land fresh from a war with the shadowlands. The secret will not last forever, and it is only a matter of time before civil war begins in earnest.

Lion - Despite suffering significant losses during the last war, Lion remains strong. While Unicorn holds the advantage in numbers, Lion's strong strategic and leadership traditions serve it well, leading to a grand stalemate with Unicorn that has defined central Rokugan since the beginning of the war. Lion is slowly losing the conflict, however, although a single decisive victory could turn the tide dramatically in either side's favor.

Mantis - Still regarded by most as a minor clan, Mantis has allied with Crab in exchange for recognition. In addition, Mantis has the most extensive network of minor clan allies of all of the great clans. Their limited land forces are restricting their activities on the mainland, but with their help the Crab forces remain well fed and supplied while the ships of other clans are raided and destroyed. Only Crane threatens them at sea, but for now Mantis rules the waves.

Phoenix - The Phoenix clan was hit hardest by the recent war. The Elemental Council was completely destroyed, although replacements are being sought. Nearly every shugenja of significant experience perished in the war, and the survivors are ill fitted to restoring the Council. While they are attempting to protect and aid the Crane clan wherever they can, the phoenix clan is not a martial one and without their overwhelming magical might, there may be little they can do. On top of this, they are the only other clan to know of the darkness within Dragon, and are trying to find a way to help.

Scorpion - The Scorpion clan has been officially disbanded, by order of the last Emperor. While the families have returned to Rokugan, they do so in secret disguised as members of Minor Clans. Still they seek to keep the Empire together and strong, but struggle to do so as Unicorn and Lion occupy their homeland. Without any standing armies, open schools or lands to draw support from, Scorpion is perilously close to extinction in fact as well as in law.

Unicorn - The strongest clan at this time, Unicorn is at nearly full strength after the War. Seeing this as their chance, they enter the new war with abandon, making great gains in the early days before settling in to a bitter rivalry with Lion. Only time will tell which clan will win their stalemate, or whether the victor will have the strength left to stand against the others.

Factions:

Unicorn: The strongest faction, relying on fast cavalry and large numbers. Currently in a stalemate with Lion.

Lion: Surrounded by enemies, Lion's peerless strategic and tactical abilities are keeping the clan strong.

Crab-Mantis: In the best position, Crab and Mantis would be the strongest faction if they had better ability to project force inland.

Crane-Phoenix: Barely holding on, Crane and Phoenix are being pushed back step by step. If they can defeat Mantis at sea, they may be able to secure aid from Crab and turn the tide.

I would probably be msot interested in playing a Hirumoto Bushi (Dragon), Hida Bushi (Crab), Asako Courtier (Phoenix), Akodo Bushi (Lion), or Shinjo Magistrate (Unicorn)... depending onw aht toher people are playing and what alliance we choose.

I was rolling for a Void Shugenja of the Pheonix Clan- Imasawa, Imawa- I don't remember the name of the school a hundred percent. Or, a Togashi Monk....

As long as I don't have to play Crane, I suppose I can be happy.

Hell, might be tempted to play a Scorpion Ninja (Shosuro Infiltrator) disguised as one of the other players' servants.

Must not plot to murder Crane player character, must not plot to murder Crane player character, must not plot to murder Crane player character, must not plot to murder Crane player character, must not plot to murder Crane player character...

Ahem. Anyway. So it looks like people want to play crane/phoenix?

Tempted to play Scorpion or Dragon for this mix if we're going Crane/Phoenix, though a Crane courtier or Iaijutsu master would be fun.

UnbridledOriginality is going to be our Crane Duelist.

I'll probably be a Shosuro Infiltrator if Kaja will let me. That, or something from Phoenix.

must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC must not kill crane PC

You could even be pretending to be with my Charachter...

Who is going to be a hopeless idealist, and Paragon of Compassion.

Yup.... I have plans. We'll discuss on the actual meeting for Discussion?

I was planning to start with a truely good Charachter and let them get corrupted from there.
