Emery smirked, "Train her, if you are so concerned. As for me, I don't need to thank her, not now and not ever. Or have you forgotten. Special doesn't make you better, if makes you different. You work on your relationship with Helena, I heard you broke her so bad, she fall into her work far more than she was. Fix what you broke, then worry about what others will do." He stepped back, "Go be a human, you rejected bring a Shadow a long time ago." He said before closing his door. He sighed, rolling his eyes before turning back to his desk. He stopped, noticing immediately that something was different.

Nicoli sighed as he watched Emery go. His demeanor didn't change or falter until he was in his own room. He let out a deep sigh and looked around. He wouldn't have changed what was done, but he may have done it differently. Emery was right, he had turned his back on this place. He got 20 years with a woman he loved with everything he had, but she was dead. He knew Helena would try, but he was not going to let her give her life for Olivia's. He groaned and left the room again, moving to go to the labs where Helena was. He knew she hated to be disturbed when she worked, but he had yet to apologize to her.

After Rowan passed the drawing into Emery's room she returned to her desk and continued to draw. She had not opened her sketch book in a long time. Her art had always been calming for her, it let her ignore everything for a while, or hone in on it to organize it. Right now she just needed to clear her mind.

Helena sighed as she sat in the lab and she wasn't sure how to get it all fitting together. She took a deep breath and let it out, she was so close to having the spell figured out.

Nicoli knocked on the door and then stepped in quietly. He went to where Helena was and smiled a little. He went over to her, taking a chair and bringing it over to where she was, then he took a seat. "Want help? Maybe a test subject?" He asked her.

Helena glanced at him and sighed, with a smirk, "I'm close. When I get it going, I have to test it myself. You are already there, no telling where it'll pop out. I'll just grab her and bring her back. You should get some rest." She said a little lost.

Nicoli shook his head a little. "I'm staying here with you, I'm not tired enough to rest. That and I think I owe an awfully big apology Helena. Why did you agree to bring Liv back?" He asked her gently. He planned to spend as much time as he could with her. And keep an eye on her. He was not going to let her trade her life.

Helena looked at him surprised and them smiled softly, "Because I love you. I've always loved you and she is who you love." She sighed, shrugging as she looked at the spell dancing uncompleted in it's cage, "Hector loved someone, he was happy, had a son but he married who he was supposed to. When Kyle* used to ask why he didn't marry his mother, Hector said, 'it's against the law and there was no way around it. Nothing is more important then to love sometime and want them happy, being hunted would not make them happy'. "She looked at Nicoli with a smile, "She made you happy, and I love you, being happy is more important and that's what you and Rowan deserve."

Nicoli looked down, guilt washing over him. "And what about you Helena? You deserve to be happy more than anyone. I loved you too you know, but I was selfish." He hesitated a moment. He knew the laws of the world, he grew up there, he just often chose to find the loop holes to get away with some of his recklessness. "Helena what did you have to give up so I could be in the human world?" He asked her gently, looking to her again.

Helena looked at him surprised, frowning deeply as she looked down, "But I don't." She sighed, "I hated her, I honestly did. After you were gone, as they days went by I hated her." She looked at the spell, "I was upset for a long time, after I convinced Hector to let you go and I did go. I did meet her, but she had no idea who I was. The way has just started to being a concern and I thought you should come back but I met her, she was pregnant and I was hurt, but then I knew..." She sighed, looking at Nicoli, "A Shadow can not mate with another being, it is law and dangerous for the being and the child. I knew you had no idea and I knew she wouldn't survive." Sure frowned, "So, no, I don't deserve to be happy, I almost let her die, she would have died, or Rowan would have. I nearly let it happen, knowing you had no healing training about these things. I knew you would let her try, because you like stretching the rules. But this was one rule, you wouldn't overcome. I went crazy when you were gone, I lost my place in this Tower, in this world. But I don't deserve to have it back, not with how dark my heart became."

Nicoli felt tears in his eyes but they did not spill. "You still deserve it Helena. What you did is in the past. It was my fault you were so hurt." He said quietly. "I didn't....you let me go so easily and I was still so young and foolish that I was too stupid to realize how much it would hurt you. I thought you had loved me like I loved you and that was why it was so easy for you to let me go." He said. He knew better now, would if things had gone differently. But as much as he cared about the people in the tower, he had been so self centered. "Helena what do you mean you almost let them die? Not coming to me or not having Liv in a place with out shadow doctors kept those chances the same." He wasn't angry. How could he be? He just felt confused about how he felt for her and everything going on.

Helena looked at him, "Shadow Transfer. I gave her my blood and power so she could care Rowan and survive. There was an exam, were the doctor knocked her out to lessen her chance of moving, because he thought she might move wrong and send the needle though the fetus. That is when I did the transfer, I had to stay in the human world, because when I did, being to get from her made me weak and I could feel myself dying." She frowned, "When Rowan was born I reversed it, but it took a few days before I could even stand after that. My Dier magic is still a little unpredictable, sometimes, so I stopped using it." She turned to the spell, "I would have this up tonight if I could see through the Shell, but every time I try it, it hurts my sight and it gets blur."

Nicoli frowned and then shook his head a little. He leaned over and pulled her into a hug. "I'm so sorry. Thank you, for saving them, I still don't understand why you did, but gods...thank you." He whispered. He understood a little bit of Shadow Transfer, but not as much as she did. "I could do the same Helena. I know how to do shadow transfer, though I've never actually had to do it. But...we'll I'm not Dier but maybe if I do it, you could get those abilities back." He offered. He knew that's asnt quite how it worked, but he would do it to help her.

Helena chuckled, letting a few tears fall, she shook her head, "That's not how it works. And you wouldn't be able to help me get my ability back that way." She took a deep breath, "My ability will come back, I'm sure it won't be long. And I've managed to get through work without it this long, I am sure I will get this done without it now." She placed her hand on his lap, "I love you, Nicoli. I'll do this just to know it'll make you happy. No matter how long it takes."

Nicoli sighed, resting his forehead against her shoulder. "Helena I'd love to see Liv again. But you gave me twenty years with her I wouldn't have had otherwise. I love you too and it makes me happy to see you again. If you feel you need to keep trying then go ahead. But not at the cost of you okay?" He said. He sat up straight and looked to her.

Helena smirked, "Whatever makes you happiest." She but her lip and looked at him, "Nicoli. Did you ever miss it, us? Did you miss being here with me?"

Nicoli sighed a little, but then nodded. "Yes. In the beginning especially. It was hard to adjust to a human life, I felt like I was going crazy sometimes. And I did miss you. You had been one of my best friends and someone I cared about. It was hardest to leave you." He let out a quiet chuckle. "I must sound crazy. I loved you and kissed you and this life and yet I didn't choose to stay. Maybe I've always been crazy and a little off." He muttered. He looked to her and gently wiped away a tear.

Helena smirked, "I missed you too. And I did go crazy." She chuckled, "You always looked for the next change, maybe that is why." She frowned a little, "At least that's what I told myself sometimes. That you didn't leave because you loved her more, but because you needed to push through every rule and the humans were our biggest rule."

He gently cupped her cheek in his hand. "Maybe. Because I didn't love her more. That never felt right. It was different. And maybe that is what it was. That I had to push the boundaries as much as I could. I'm back though and I am going to stay. I will make it up to you. And I will make it up to this tower. No matter what I chose, I did turn my back on all of you."

Helena looked at him and bite the inside of her lip, slightly, before she couldn't help herself and she kissed him. She quickly stopped herself, pulling away, "I'm sorry, I..." She sighed, "I shouldn't have done that."

Nicoli was surprised at first, instinctively he had kissed her back, it had just felt natural. When she pulled back he gave her a smile. "It's okay, I...don't worry about it." He said, trying to reassure her. He put his hands in his lap, glancing to the spell she'd been working on. "So, other than my charming presence, how else can I help?" He asked her with a smirk. He was more just trying to occupy his mind. He wanted to kiss her again, he wanted to hold her like he used to. He also felt like doing so, so soon after his wife's death wasn't right.

Helena smirked, before she got to her feet, "You can let me work." She told him, her gaze softened, "Nicoli, I am glad you are home. Don't push yourself. There is a war out there and you'll need everything in you to help win. You go rest, I'll work on this until I can't and tomorrow evening we can try to get it working."

Nicoli gave her a gentle smile. He got to his feet, gently kissing her forehead. "You know where I am if you need me. Remember to try to get some rest at some point too okay? I'll be back in the morning with breakfast." He assured her. Tenderly he brushed back some of her hair and then left.

Helena nodded, as she smiled at him, looking up at him. Assuring him she would try, but sure frowned a little as he left, she couldn't help but let out a breath.

Nicoli woke early the next morning. He hadn't slept much, he'd had strange nightmares. He'd never had nightmares before, that was a very human thing. So he got up just before the sun and went to the dining hall. He was able to get a few things and then he went back to the labs to find Helena and make sure she ate.

Rowan also woke early, though not as early as her father. She rose just after the sun. She took another of the pictures she had drawn and for some reason unknown to her, opened the wall just enough to slide it into Emery's room. She smirked to herself and then went to the dining hall to meet with Kyle*.

Helena was still working and smirked a little to herself. She didn't sleep but she had made some leeway to the spell. She was sure that she could make it just right, using some flow of time on a special time of day.

Emery was on guard before the night was over and he checked in on Jean, before he was back on guard.

Kyle*smirked when he spotted Rowan, "Morning. You got up pretty easily, huh?" He said as he came in beside her.
