Fantasy Treadstone School of Odd Phenomenon and Arcane Arts (Invite only)

Asa follows the other teachers out the door, throwing a smile here and there at students who catch her eye. As she heads to her class, she begins humming lightly. She sees the young lady who sat in the back of orientation going up the hall, muttering to herself the names and numbers to herself. 'She's smart. These halls can be tricky.' Once at her room, she smiles. 'I can't wait to start!' She thought to herself. Once inside, Asa begins to look around. There is already an open area off to the side, with plenty of room for students to make summoning circles. There is also a large area in front, obviously set there as a demonstration stage. This room would do nicely. Asa tucked her stray hair back behind her ear and set to work, making the space as user friendly as possible. Once she finished, Asa placed a small note card on the door of her classroom. Class begins at 10 PM (mountain time) Pleas be ready to learn.

Gus Walked out of his room shutting his door and leaving a parrot perched atop a wooden perch that said "Class starts at 4 pm." If a student walked over to it. Walking down the hall Gus sees Asa in front of her class room "How was the rest of the orientation?" He asked as he walked up next to her "I hope I didn't miss anything important" He added with a small chuckle that exposed his fangs a little. "I hope I'm not intruding on your personal time but would you like to go get lunch and discuss our classes?" Gus asked wanting to get to know his co-worker more as she seemed like someone he could get along with for the next few decades of his life.

Being one of the last to leave the auditorium, Sesler stalked the halls for moments before retiring to his chambers. The room was poorly lit and covered in books sprawled outward from a bookshelf onto desks around it. An armor stand containing gilded suits was prevalent in the meager light. However, he didn't intend to stay in the room. Locking the door behind him, he'd simply state upon a slip of paper:

After main classes are done, report to the center courtyard.

Outside, he'd prepare several dummies of cloth and leather, made to withstand the wooden practice batons. Arranged in a large space as to give the practitioner more room for the stances, he'd open a novice evocation book in his lap. After a few muttered swears and plenty of rune-inscribing, he'd summon one of the lowliest of creatures; an imp. It was in a hibernated slumber, beckoned to be triggered when the practitioners arrive.

The courtyard itself was surrounded by the main building, in the center of the complex. In the older days before the Head of Taylor, he would've started a class with the hunting of some of the more reclusive creatures. It served little purpose in the moral sense, but honed someone to be less repulsed by the act of killing another. Besides, unicorn horn material make fine weaponry.

As Asa setting out the note card onto her door, Gus walks up. "Oh, hey. It went rather well. You did miss a few introductions, but I suppose that was more for the students benefit then ours." She giggles lightly. Gus steps closer and smiles with the invitation to lunch. "I'd love to. It'll be good to know more about what is going on around here, other than my own class." Asa smiles before curtsying lightly. "We'll have to discuss this farther at a later date. I've got to get my class setup. Good luck, Gus." With that, she heads back into her room to start clearing up all the dust from the desks and book shelves.

Lyuba stands up and goes out to the hallway and a tattoo appears on her arm, the three of pentacles and she smiles using symbol magic to place glyphs on her door that said Class starts at 12AM (Mountain Time)

"Lucky me, well that should do,"

She then walks down the hall and out of the building into the courtyard for the night. She saw that there were dummies set up. This must have been the site for the self defense class. She looked around and somehow she a bit surprised to find Sesler there. She wasn't sure why she just didn't. There was an imp and cringed a little at the beast. People believed them to be very weak, but she'd read about them in magical history and seen a few.

"I sincerely hope that, that is a basic garden variety imp you just summoned there, I mean teach how you want, but I'm saying those things are evil,"

Robin entered, late and felt excruciatingly embarrassed by it. She had been planning this moment for months, only for it to be thrown wildly off course both literally and metaphorically. Her uncle, who's ability was teleportation, was sidetracked, thinking more of food than his niece's fierce desire to arrive on time. While she couldn't say she didn't thoroughly enjoy her lunch break, her anger did seethe. Punctuality was normally something that Robin could pride herself on, however, this instance she fell, most obviously, flat on her face. she sighed and peered around, unsure of where to go, hoping that her uncle sent word ahead of them, or somehow made the Headmaster aware, knowing fully well he likely had not. She hoped he would be understanding as she made her way through the corridor.

Sam was sitting in one of the corridors, he didn't quite know where to go after the orientation and was quite frankly a little scared by the teachers, especially Sesler. Next to him was a bag of what his parents had assumed to be school supplies he needed and on his lap was a cage with a dead rat inside it, he kept his eyes focused on the rat as his thoughts wandered in his mind. His family had travelled halfway across the country just to dump him here, so him and his 'wicked ways' wasn't a problem for neither his family nor his village.

He'd lift his head up to Lyuba, saying-

"They work off a disciplinary factor. And I'm aware they're quite evil. Don't want my first-years killing innocent animals. I'm not allowed."

He drew a wooden baton, showing it to her.

"I simply want them to expel it. They'll be scared off pretty good."

He'd stop speaking for a moment, as though in thought. He'd then lift his head back up, saying-

"The students are in for a long night. I plan on having a run through the woods until three o'clock. Tomorrow, probably mental defense."

Taylor woke up in his classroom in a cold sweat from the usual nightmares that plagued his sleep. He hobbled over to the sink that resided next to his desk, removed his glasses, and rinsed his face off.

First day of school

This was one of Taylor's favorite days of the year. It has always been a time of excitement and learning in his mind and today would be no exception. The doctor pulled out an array of beakers and filters, walked over to one of his cabinets and grabbed a bag of coffee beans. As tradition, Zachary stuck his nose in the bag and breathed in deeply.

My god that's amazing.

He then took a handful of beans out of the bag, crushed them to a coarse powder and laid them in a wetted filter. Afterwards he set water on to boil and waited. This was the custom for Taylor every morning and it hadn't changed since he had attended the school nearly thirty years ago. He remembered his first day in an alchemy class under the teaching of Richard Ventis, the previous headmaster of Treadstone and Taylor's oldest mentor and friend, but now was not the time for remembering the past, now was the time for looking to the future. Taylor cleared his mind and began to arrange the chairs in his class into groups of five whilst pouring hot water through his coffee grounds and into a beaker below. He then unlocked his door with the motion of a finger, poured himself a cup of coffee, and waited for students to file into their first period class sipping from a mug every so often as he sat behind his desk.

Having left the school in the previous day after the speeches in the auditorium, Archene made his way for the first class. Considering it wasn't something like the speeches in the auditorium, he made sure to arrive a few minutes early. It would certainly give him enough time to ask any needed questions before the class started. Or at least, get used to the classroom.

As soon as he made his way into the classroom, knocking at the door but entering before any answer was given in any case, he looked at the teacher, "Good morning, Headmaster."

Sam came into the class, he was quite early as he didn't have many morning rituals, or much to do for that matter, he quickly found himself a seat, eyes focused on the dead, caged rat that he carried around everywhere. The meek boy looked rather sickly, but it might just be how he looks generally and not because of some actual illness. The rat contained within the cage was rotting, clearly, three of it's ribs on the right side of it were visible, but it didn't give off any smell.

Taylor tipped his glass to each of the boys arriving.

"Good morning to you as well Mr. d'Oro. You two," he gestured to the first two boys that entered his class,"You two sit in this group of chairs right here." he pointed at a group of chairs to the left and front of his desk. He then went to the board and drew a circle with a piece of chalk before anyone else came into the room. Over it he wrote a simple question to begin class discussion when the time came.

Sam looked up, swallowing in nervousness before looking back at his rat I don't know any of this he thought to himself how do I stand a chance?

The bell for first period rang at 10am sharp, Taylor rose from his seat and greeted his nearly full class.

"Good morning everyone and welcome to your alchemy class. Here I will be teaching you the finer points in the art of transmutation and the science behind it. So, considering all of you should be able to read feel free to answer my question with the raise of a hand. Take a stab at it, I'll go easy on your answers I promise."

Taylor took another drink of his coffee and set it on his desk. He folded his hands over his cane and waited for a response from his students.

Archene sits where he is assigned to. He glanced at Sam as he sits down, and then at its rat. Maybe an advanced student of necromancy... Or the experiment of one. He shook his head before letting out a sigh, it didn't really matter. After giving a light smile at Sam, he took a look at the board... He furrowed his brows. At times like this, he wasn't sure if the curriculum here was too advanced, or if his family didn't have enough resources to teach him alchemy properly.

After scratching his head briefly, he looked at the teacher raising his hand, "Sir, though I can guess that this is an act to solve two materials under fire for a day, I can't identify which elements are involved."

Taylor's eyebrows went up as he heard Archene's response.

"Mr. d'Oro, you seem to have a background in some alchemical symbols. I'm impressed you know that the symbol on the right is for a day, and I'm glad you know that a triangle facing upwards is in fact the alchemical symbol for fire, but only one material is being dealt with at the moment."

He paused briefly before going on

"This circle is dealing with one element. Zinc, given away by the symbol essentially being a fancy Z. The processes being done on this Zinc are simple ones and take a day or less to complete. The symbol to the left of Zinc is purification through heat, and the symbol below allows for the Zinc to melt into a liquid. This is some of the most basic of Alchemy and requires a lot of know how to draw and a little skill to accomplish."

Taylor then pulled a piece of dull metal out of his breast pocket and set it on the table with a deep thud.

"Now, who knows what this is?"

"Uuuuh...." Sam's eyes widened, he was so utterly confused by all of it, it all just went too fast for his learning ability.

"My family taught me basic introductions... but our focus were in other magic arts." Archene bows his head slightly as some kind of formality and show of respect, like one might have done to a tutor a few centuries earlier.

He glanced at Sam, Maybe a family that focused solely in other magical arts. He nodded at himself, not allowing himself to lose much focus on the lesson, and as the metal was placed on the table he said, "I supposed that, it is Zinc."

"And Good luck to you as well" Gus Said before he walked back to his classroom to set up his first lesson. getting back to his room he unlocked his door and walked in and grabbed the books about Phoenix's and started placing them at each desk so every student would have one of each kind of book. Gus wouldn't be doing this often as he would tell his students what books they would need to read and have ready before his next class. Gus finished setting out the books and walked back to his podium and saw a spider walking along it "Hey little fella how did you get in here?" He asked the spider picking it up and looking at it closely "I fell from the ceiling" The spider said sounding sad while looking up towards the ceiling "Don't worry I'll put you back up there" Gus smiled before walking over to the front right corner of his room. Gus isn't tall enough to reach so he started climbing his bookshelf so he could put the spider back home.

"Alright here you go" He smiled as he placed the Spider in a new corner of the room "Make a nice web here and call this home" Gus added as the spider scurried off his hand and on to the ceiling "I'll keep the room clean of other insects" The overjoyed spider said before making a nice web. Jumping down from the bookshelf Gus walked over to his summoning circle and summoned a bottle of water "I'm gonna get so lazy with this here" He mumbled to himself and picked up the bottle of water and set it on his podium. Gus turns towards his chalk board and starts writing three questions on it.

Question 1. How long can a phoenix live for?

Question 2. When a Phoenix dies?

Question 3. Does a Phoenix truly die?

Gus finished with his questions and walked over to a desk in the corner of his teaching stage and sat down waiting for his class to start

Robin wrote on her page, letters small and neat. She mimicked the symbol in her notes, glancing up every so often. She heard "Mr. D'Oro" answer his questions and knew that if she ever fell behind, he was who she should ask.

Taylor noticed one of his students' confusion. He picked up the metal off of the desk and walked in front of him. Zachary got down on one knee with some difficulty and handed the metal to Sam.

"I don't expect you to know what everything is right off the bat, and if you have questions please ask them."

Zachary gave Sam a smile and addressed Archene

"That's a great guess Mr. d'Oro and after explaining a circle involving zinc one would expect me to demonstrate, but the circle drawn on the board indicates a day long process, one we don't have time for. So, I've moved on to a heavier metal."

He then spoke to Samuel.

"Feel this metal, remember it."

He then stood up, leaning on his cane heavily in standing.

"The metal I presented you all with is lead. Heavy, dense and resistant to radiation."

The doctor then pulled his chalk from his coat pocket and willed it to draw another circle on the ground.

"Dad always kept complaining about lead in the fields.. I think we lost a dog to it once.." Sam mumbled as he felt the metal in his hands

Making lead into gold... the how though, is a bit different from what I remember. Archene ponders briefly muttering quietly, "...lead to gold..." but he doesn't seem to speak it out loud as he really fails to remember what the rest of the symbols meant.

Robin sighed in frustration, reaching her neck twisting to try and take a good look at the floor over the heads of those in front of her. She would have to ask him for a closer seat after class. She resigned herself to sitting down, trying to listen as hard as she could to what he was doing.

Savina simply watched the board, as the professor explains what the things he is showing them are and writes it down. It was interesting, she'd never done alchemy before this day.
