Trapped In the Nightosphere

The princess wrinkled up her nose at hearing that red tasted like blood. "Ew gross" She said she had imagined it tasting like strawberries or cherries not blood. "If it only makes you almost satisfied will you eventually need real blood?" She asked here eyes growing wide a bit afraid to hear the answer. She had assumed he lived off the color red alone she'd never seen or heard otherwise, and he hadn't harmed anyone in Ooo, at least that she knew of.

She glanced up as he transformed into his bat form again. She was both surprised and confused at what he was doing until he explained that she was to sleep on him. "But I thought we could just find a cave or something of that sort..." She said reluctant to just curl up on his chest and go to sleep like that. The idea seemed so strange to her.

The vampire ignored her first question, the unknown twisting his guts unpleasantly. He continued to stare at her, only the dullness in his dark eyes were replaced with a glint of guilt. What if he ran out of patience for the thirst that wrapped around him like a blanket? He already had a hard enough time controlling his temper, what would happen if his blood-lust got out of hand as well.

PB's reluctance to sleep along his soft fur made his heart fall, face sinking with dissapointment, and a tinge of hurt. He felt a strange sense of abandonment for a split second. "Well, unless you want to patch me up again." He ripped his gaze from her face, offended that she would be so displeased by sleeping with someone who could watch over her. He wanted this. "This is the best bet we have Princess, unless you want me to put my life on the line again..." he trailed off, something in his chest burning. It was rejection. She'd rather him risk his life to find her a cramped cold cave, then to lay on his chest and sleep peacefuly, knowing no harm could come to her as long as he was there. "I'll just go out and almost die so you can have the best luxuries possible in the Nightosphere."

PB thought see noticed his face drop in disappointment but it was hard to read his facial expression when he was in bat form. "Okay Hush" She said crawling on to his chest trying to get him to stop whining. She wasn't sure why it upset him so much that she wasn't eager to just climb up and go to sleep on top of him. "I'm sorry okay, I'll sleep here it's just a little weird to sleep on top of a giant bat okay?" She explained to him as she curled up in a ball on is chest. She glanced up at him once before closing her eyes "I'm tired can we stop fighting over everything so I can sleep?" She asked yawning and beginning to fall half-asleep.

The feelimg of something small rufflimg through his fur made the vampire almost smile. Marshall placed his hands just below the princess, talons curling together as he stared into the looming flames he'd created. His brain split into a million different places, mostly thoughts geared towards his father. The bastard had abandoned his only child on earth for a millennium, and now they were within decent terms. At least that's what his oblivious King of the Nightosphere seemed content with. The notion of meeting his dad again, the first time in a few hundred years, made his insides shift violently. He placed his mind back onto the warm form on his chest. He glanced down at the pink girl, eyes taking in every strand of pink hair. "Goodnight Princess." He said softly.

The girl curled up more in his soft fur as she slowly began to doze off. She stirred just a bit when she heard him tell her good night "Hmm night night Marshall" She said tiredly before falling completely asleep. His chest was surprisingly more comfortable than she expected and he was usually freezing but with the fur it made him much warmer.

As she slept she began to dream she was back in Ooo laying in a field watching clouds float by. She closed her eyes and smiled as the sun warmed her pink skin. She was happy laying there it wasn't until something something blocked the sun from her that she opened her eyes seeing a very pale Marshall Lee holding a parasol floating above her. "Hey! get out of my light" Her dreamself said trying to push him out of the way but he wouldn't budge. "What if I don't want to?" the Marshall Lee in her dream said with a smirk challenging her moving his face closer to hers. "Seriously why can't you just sit next to me" She began to get flustered as his face inched closer to hers. "Because, I like you.." He said slowly and just as their lips were about to touch PB woke up very suddenly and out of breath. "What the heck was that?" She asked herself in her head still feeling flustered by her dream. "Isn't it bad enough I'm stuck with him for weeks and now he's invading my dreams. And were we about to... What is wrong with me?"

When the Princess startled awake, she ripped the vampire from his burning thoughts. He pinned his gaze on the small form, curiosity peeking at the sight of her frantic features. "Is something wrong?" He asked, hands lifting from his furry belly, a talon resting gently under her chin. He lifted her face, taking in her features cautiously. "Did you have a nightmare?" He asked, bat-like features twisted with concern.

PB tried to compose herself as the bat like vampire moved a talon under her chin forcing her to look at him. " It was just a bad dream.." She said trying to brush it off." I thought one of those deamons was attacking again" She lied. She would never let him know what she had really been dreaming about, she herself was trying to forget it. She was doing her best now to convince herself that the only reason he showed up in her dream was because subconsciously she knew she was sleeping on top of him. "It means nothing forget it" She kept telling herself. " I'm fine now you don't have to worry" She reassured him giving a small smile .

Marshall nodded gently, letting his claw slip from her chin. He then placed his hands back along his stomach, just under her body. "Don't word, you're safe." He said softly lowering his head and looking back up at the ceiling. The fire he'd made a few hours before was now licking the stalactites above their heads. It always seemed to awe-strike him how easily flames would build, but only in height. There were no wild fires in the Nightosphere.

"I won't let anything happen to you."

She nodded and was glad when the matter was dropped without any further questioning. Her dream made her begin to feel a little uneasy around him. Thank glob he was in bat form because if he was his regular self she would not be able to get the image of his face inching closer to hers out of her head every time she looked at him. "I know, I'm okay now. We can start moving again in a little bit I just want to rest a while longer" She told him and curled back up on his chest. She was a little afaid to go back to sleep for fear she would have another dream like the one she just woke up from. She decided to just rest with her eyes closed and she forced herself to think about other things.

He nodded generously, ready to move on whenever she was. They stayed in silence for a long while, letting him piece his thoughts together. What would he say to his father? It wasn't exactly a preferred circumstance. Dropping in on him after all of these years, and then asking him for a free trip back to Ooo? Would this change things between them? What about Bubblegum? Would he even allow her past the gates? His father was a very harsh man, and often not the fairest of beings. One look at the pink fleshed-female and he'd want to keep her in the Nightosphere, as a wife or a slave. Marshall knew this, because his mind almost identical to his father's. The apple doesn't fall very far from the tree after all.

He tried to imagine the conversation in his head, shifting through different possible answers that Abadeer would give him.

Marshall: Hey dad, long time no see

Aberdeer: Get out

take two

Marshall: Dad! I've missed you so much! Say, can we get a lift back to Ooo?

Aberdeer: You never call, why would I help you?

take three

Marshall: Look at this babe I picked up in the fire-relm! Can I keep her in Ooo with me?

Aberdeer: She's mine now, no.

These scenes only discouraged the vampire, a sigh of frustration escaping his thin lips. He was in deep, and had nothing to grab onto. Drowning in lava without the courtesy of anyone telling him it was an ocean.

PB stayed curled up on his chest with her eyes closed her bubblegum pink hair falling over her face as she rested. She had almost pushed all images from her dream out of her head now and she was finally able to relax. There was still no hope of her falling back asleep however. As her mind began to wander she notice Marshall seemed a bit tense. "Are you alright?" She asked softly witout moving. She wondered what could be bothering him. Was he uncomfortable with her lying on his chest? Or was he getting anxious about staying in one place. They had never been together this long and although she had gotten to know him better than anyone else, she never knew what he was thinking.

Her question burned in the back of his mind, stirring up feelings he'd never encountered before. It felt like she'd crawled up to the attic in his brain, opening a door that had been sealed for years. It felt like she'd beat the cobwebs away from his rafters, dust flying everywhere.

Was he alright?

"No." He said before he could thing. Wishing he could reach out and stuff the words back into his mouth and devour them. "I mean..." What did he mean? He just announced something he would never admit before, to someone he would never admit it to. Marshall closed his eyes tightly, shin king back down to his normal human-size. The princess' head was propped gently against his chest, her legs folded over his own. He glanced at her through long strands of pink hair, distress obvious in his eyes. "I'm lost." He muttered. Not sure how else he could put it without having her question him until his head exploded.

She looked up a bit surprised by his answer. She had never expected him to admit he wasn't ok. Denying anything being wrong until she had to pull what was bothering him out, after much arguing was what she was expecting. She raised her head a look of concern and worry on her face now, something had to really be wrong for him to confess that to her.

PB's eyes stayed glued to his face as he closed his eyes and transformed back to his normal form. She did not move from his chest but instead moved up his chest to wrap her arms around his neck in a hug, her cheek pressed to his. "What do you mean? Lost how?" She asked gently. She had never seen him like this before, but after seeing the distress in his eyes and the defeated tone to his voice she instinctively felt she needed to help. Although she wished she could do more, all she could offer him was a hug until she knew more about what was really wrong.

The sudden movement made his body go rigid. He had been half-expecting her to jump off of him, a frown upon her brow. When she didn't do this, but instead moved closer to him, his stomach seemed to fall. Her cheek pressed against his, small pink arms wrapped around his neck. Marshall sat up, his hands grasping onto her waist as he crossed his legs, moving her to sit upon his lap. He glaned sideways at Princess Bubblegum, his body loosening from her warm touch. "I have no idea what I'm doing." He confessed, one hand flying up to his face. He dug his middle finger and thumb along the bridge of his nose, nails threatening to break the flesh. He pursed his lips, fangs sticking out from between hit mouth. "My father... he." He paused, trying to form the words in his mind before speaking them. That was his problem, often, he would speak before thinking. "Abadeer is most likely not going to settle in our favor." He said finally. He opened his eyes, dropping his hand to her face, and cupping her cheek gently. The warmth from her skin almost scorching his fingertips. "I honestly don't know how he'll react. And to be honest..." he stopped, his teeth now clenching together. "I have a feeling he won't let you leave."

She wrapped her arms around him tighter as he began to move half-expecting him to try and push her off. She relaxed a bit when he instead wrapped his hands around her waist and let her hug him. She listened silently as he began to speak leting him get out what he needed to get out. When he finally revealed Abadeer as the source of his troubles she nodded finally understanding. She was aware asking Abadeer for help was a leap in the dark but it was all they had at the moment. She lifted her head to look at him when is hand came to cup her cheek. "I Know.." She sighed after he had finished her eyes a bit sad now. " We have to at least try though, if he wont help us we'll just have to find another way" She said trying to be a bit optimistic. She had to be optimistic and keep working to get out of the nightoshpere. She had people counting on her in Ooo and she couldn't just abandon them, they needed her.

He nodded softly, a weak smile turning up the right corner of his lip. It was a false smile, forced through the uncontrollable fear that had recently gripped his tongue. Abadeer, father or not, was ruthless. He knew the chances of the king of the Nightosphere taking the Princess as a forced bride were high. I won't let him touch you Peebs.

He stared into her small pink eyes, his own grey hues shimmering with the glow of the fire. The way her face was lit by the embers made something churn in his chest. A very low and soft thump had run against his sternum. Something he hadn't felt for centuries...

His heart.

The foreign feeling made him drop his hands from around her, and slowly lift her from his body. His limbs went rigid, stance uptight. What was she doing to him? He had no idea that his body was capable of even producing such a small rhythm. His heart was suppose to be stationary, dead like him. Frozen in time, lacking sympathy or proper passion. "We should keep moving." He muttered, all forms of compassion falling from his features. The unknown twisting his stomach tightly. "If we stay here any longer, A daemon might catch your scent."

Marshall hovered above her, his ankles crossed over each other once more, arms limp in front of him. He refrained from looking at her face. The pink glow of her skin captivating. For a split second, he pondered sinking his fangs into her flesh and drinking her dry. For a moment he hoped her blood was as sweet as she smelled. He shook his head, trying to clear his mind of such disturbing actions.

Seeing the smile make it's way on to his face made her form a small one of her own. They were going to get through this and everything was going to be okay, at least that was what she kept telling herself. "We'll be okay don't worry" She said rearsuringly trying to convince not only him but herself.

The princess stared up at him watching his face with her large pink eyes. Dispite his cold hands on her skin her flesh flet like it was burning up and she sure it was just the fires doing. The way his hand was on her cheek and their current position brought back a flood of images from her dream that instantly made her feel strange and uncomfortable. Luckly he too seemed to have the same feeling and she quickly unwrapped her arms as he pulled away from her.

"lets keep going then" She said in response to his warning of her sent attracting deamons. After standing up she bent over at the waist letting all her hair fall down toward the ground so she could gather it up into a bun on top of her head. After her hair was properly secured she stood up straight again and pulled her pink sweatshirt over her head her t-shirt riding up a bit with the sweatshirt revealing her pink tummy. The fire made it too hot to keep the sweatshirt on so once it was off her pulled her black t-shirt down over the stomach and tied the sweatshirt around her hips. "Okay, All ready lets go" she said looking back over at him.

When the Princess bent down to gather her hair into a messy bun, the vampire couldn't help but let his eyes wander. He tilted his head to the side, glancing at her behind as she fixed her locks. She then lifted her body, her fingers calming on the hem of her shirt. His eyes grew wide, slightly puzzled at this action. He was about to protest her undressing, mouth opened to speak, until the black shirt came into view. He glanced at her pink flesh, transfixed on the warmth that radiated from her being. If only he could have a small taste.

No, he wouldn't go there.

He swallowed hard, trying to keep his mind from wandering towards the thirst that could possibly be fueling this slight change of thought. He glanced down at the shirt she was wearing, his stomach flying into his throat. "Isn't that the shirt I gave you?" He asked, slightly shocked that she'd even kept the band-tee. He hovered with his legs crossed, pretzel style, elbows resting on his red plaid knees. It almost slipped his mind that he was without a shirt, until a shiver fell across him as water fell from the ceiling onto his back. "Why did you keep it?" He asked as they continued on, his grey eyes darting along the back of her neck.

PB glanced down at the shirt her cheeks going red in embarrassment. She had completely forgotten that she was wearing his shirt until now. "It's comfy..and I didn't have anything else to wear" She said in defense. The truth was she actually liked the shirt quite a bit and she often wore it to bed and around the castel when she knew she wouldn't be seen. She hadn't intended him to catch her wearing it and now that he had she felt a bit self-concious. She wrapped her arms around her torso in a pathetic attempt to hide the shirt although it was pointless now.

"did you expect me to get rid of it?" She asked glancing over his was as they walked ahead . "and anyway it's not that big of a deal it's just a shirt" She said a few minutes later the redness fading from her cheeks a bit. Why was she so embarassed to be caught wearing his shirt anyway it wasn't like it meant anything, Right?

He turned his eyebrows up, half expecting her to lash out. When she didn't he hovered closer to her, his chin inches from her shoulder. "I honestly expected you to burn it, or throw it away." He confessed, his stomach twisting again. The unknown emotions that flung themselves around his body made him almost shiver. He felt a pang of shock, and a small warmth of something please t, knowing she'd kept something of his. "It makes me feel, kind of special." He said, his short glance at her skin now becoming a long stare. "No one really likes me, as you can tell. It feels nice knowing some on out there doesn't mind me." He could feel his face burn red. "Thank you." He breathed, almost shocked at himself for the words that flew from his lips. This wasn't like him, to be thankful or even slightly mesmerized by someone else's actions. It was rare that he found himself being remotely tolerated by someone.

" Marshall I don't hate you. Why would I burn or get rid of something you gave me?" she asked. Did he really think that she didn't care at all about him? She liked the shirt and she appreciated him giving it to her she wasn't going to just get rid of it. "jeez you are such a dork we're friends of course I don't mind you" She said smiling over her shoulder at him. "Other people would like you too if they weren't all afraid of you.. Wait are you blushing?" She ask shocked by the reddness growing on his cheeks. "Oh my gosh that's so cute! I've never seen you blush before" She said a stupid grin on her face as she stopped walking turning to face him. She tried to hold in her giggles as she was so amused with seeing the vampire king actually blush because she kept a shirt.

Quickly the vampire covered his face with his arms, a soft groan falling from his lips. She thought it was cute? That was an odd way to put it. "Don't rub it in." He growled, opening his elbows and letting one eye gaze out from the darkness. "Besides, I'm not blushing. It's just hot in here." He said, denial thick in his voice. He was now hovering inches from her, his arms moved so his hands were now covering his face. His actions completely contradicting his previous statement. He lifted his fingers, letting grey hues poke out from between them. "I'm not a dork."

PB continued to giggle not believing his excuses for a second. "Oh please you don't get hot you're always as cold as an ice cube. You are totally blushing right now" She said. She liked the chance to give him a hard time for something he so often teasted her about. The way he was hiding his face made him look like a shy little boy , it was down right adorable. "Yes you are, you are a big dork whether you will admit it or not" She said grinning "I can't believe you would be so touched about a t-shirt. It's actually kind of sweet" She continued to tease

The continuation of her teasing made anger rise in his throat. His hands dropped from his face, now clenched into fists. All color fromnhisnfeatures had melted away into it's normal pale grey. "Shut up." He snapped, harshly, but didn't raise his voice. He didn't care that it was sweet, or cute, it was strange. His heart had never felt such a strange tug, his cheeks never feeling the warmth of a blush. Something was wrong, he wasn't suppose to feel like this.

"Stop teasing me." He grunted, and pressed past her before his temper got out of hand.

Marshall didn't want to feel these weird emotions. Compassion and this new burn in his chest. The one slow thump of the organ behind his ribs had shaken him increasingly, and his stance was now rigid. "So what if I was blushing, you do it all the time." He muttered, his body flying through the air a little quicker. "I do it once, and the whokebworld shits rainbows." He continued, his arms folded over his bare chest. "You don't understand, vampires aren't suppose to blush." His voice became weak, a faint sliver of fear accidentally creeping through his words, making him go silent after that. He stopped hovering, his body now shrinking to the ground, red converse raking up scarlet dust.

Her face fell as he snapped at her. "Jeez why are you so touchy? I was just joking. If you are going to tease me all the time you should be able to handle someone dishing it back to you" She said crossing her arms over her chest. He was so moody all the time. She was just having a little fun. "If it really bothers you so much I'll stop okay?" She said walking behind him. Eying him suspiciously What's up with him? She wondered but kept her mouth shut.

It wasn't until he continued talking progressively getting more aggressive that she spoke again. " Okay Marshall I get it I'll leave you alone. I didn't think a little teasing would bother you so much" She said raising her hands in surrender. The comment about vampires not blushing stuck with her. That's right blushing is caused by blood rushing to the cheeks but vampires aren't supposed to have blood pumping anywhere... The thought intrigued her. The fear in his voice hadn't escaped her either "Hey, what's wrong? are you sick or something?" She asked concerned now as he deflated.
