angra mainyu
name | Angra Mainyu (Avestan for Destructive Spirit). the Adversary, the Hellhound, Devil's Spawn, Dark One, Boy of Bloodlust, the Originator of Death - the names really start sounding all the same after a millenia or two. He used to force those about to die at his hand to recite to him all the titles they had heard just for kicks but at some point it just became a huge waste of time. Most friends (admittedly the bar is low) just know him as Aang!
age | 2 millennia, give or take? Physically about 16-17 years old
gender | Male
sexuality | Yes
race | Demonic spirit
fandom | fate/zero (just started watching the show because I found him online, so I guess I can't qualify myself as a fan yet hah)
affiliation | the Resistance, just because he's a belligerent, anti-authoritarian little devil and a sucker for any excuse to stir up a shitstorm. Also, he has a rather strong desire to not go back where he came from....
height | 5'6
weight | 135lbs
hair | spiky, tumbling mess of dark chestnut-brown hair
eyes | outlandish, pale shade of gold
style | Aang is not a stickler for fashion - what remains of his original form still clings to his body virtually in shreds. He also has a strange intense distaste for shoes, preferring barefoot in nearly all situations.
Personality
Aang has all the arrogance expected of a primordial spirit, yet none of it's purported wisdom or maturity, for that matter. It should also be quite safe to say that he's psychopathic, feeling little to no remorse or guilt for those who have intentionally or unintentionally gotten in his path. He concerns solely for his own well-being and, like a child, acts only to satiate that torturous feeling of boredom.
Yes, in short Aang is what most would call a recipe for disaster - mischievous, chaotic brat mixed with ancient, dark power. But when he's not in one of his serial-killer kid moods, Aang can strangely entertaining, with his sharp tongue, ingeniousness, and almost admirable boldness. Furthermore, lying deep down at his core is a ceaseless desire to know where and how he had come to be and most importantly, who he was before.
history
Aang wasn't always this way. In fact, Angra Mainyu wasn't even his true name - it was a cruel gift given to him by his people, long, long ago. His true name was taken, his identity robbed the moment he was stolen from his bed in the dead of night, only to reborn as something much, much worse.
The ritual itself was quick and relatively painless. The only thing Aang can remember was the distant, echoing low, oppressive hum of their chants and the way he heard his heart pump, frantic with every second that passed, desperate to cling onto life. But death came all the same, and then so did the pain.
It was in the dimensions of the afterlife where Aang realized that he could not remember who he was before. All he knew was that he was the lamb his people had offered to the gods. He was the martyr, the vessel in which his people planned to transfer all their sins so that his people could avoid punishment. The appearance of the first mark burned with the force of a thousand suns. The next one stung with the force of a legion of wasps, and the third felt like salt on a thousand wounds. Inch by inch, forged in the hellfire, his soul would undergo a torturous transformation, one that would make him the source of all sin - Angra Mainyu.
Rightfully, the experience filled him with hate that could fill the ocean. The ancient gods wielded that hatred like a weapon, focusing it on all those that fell short in their sights. He was a hound, a judge, jury and executioner, following the orders of the gods for more than a millennia. But as time went by, it became clear that the gods were losing their power and influence, crumbling away into obscurity. They could no longer control the monster they had created, and Aang broke free. And while this was a huge win for Aang, it was a bone-chilling scream of terror for mostly everyone else. He went on a huge killing spree - pillaging, ransacking, tricking, manipulating, his way into a good time. The beliefs that gods would protect them waned, but fear at it's core was eternal - and Angra took advantage of that. His reputation grew, and it wasn't long until he was runner-up to being the most feared demonic entity on Earth. Of course, Aang came across other supernaturals as well. Some were textbook heroes, wishing to vanquish evil, others so vile even Aang knew to watch his back around. There were few, incredibly few in whom Aang would give a second, third, even fourth thought before killing. But they died, like flies and Aang learned to move on.
But it wasn't all sunflowers and peasants' blood. Aang had his ass kicked plenty of times by pissing off the wrong supernaturals. And every time he died, he would go back to that dimension and suffer the sins of his people's descendants, who grew like mold on bread. After the first few times, Aang had learned his lesson. The killing sprees grew sparser, and after nearly a thousand years of free reign, Aang, in a way, grew more disciplined. But he was still the manifestation of destructive chaos, and it was chaos he was going to sow.
Of course, chaos can't be sown if he isn't here. And we all know how much he wants to be here, and not there, especially after just coming back. So choosing which faction to join was easily a no-brainer for him!
Demonic Smoke Manipulation, Pain Inducement & Combustion Inducement | Aang can create, shape and manipulate Hellish, toxic smoke, capable of blinding, asphyxiating, desiccating, or poisoning anyone and anything in is path. In addition, demonic smoke is capable of inflicting excruciating pain, both physically and spiritually tormenting the victim. He is able to create and manipulate solid weapons and projectiles with his smoke as well. Aang is also capable of controlling the incredibly destructive combustion element of his smoke.
Smoke Teleportation | Aang is able to disappear literally into a puff of smoke and reappear somewhere else. However, he needs to be able to see/know where he's going, and he has a limit of how many times he can teleport before running out of juice.
Immortality | God-like Reflexes & Agility | Well-versed in Kung Fu | Excellent knife-thrower
Weaknesses | No oxygen, no combustion. He's relatively small and scrawny, and worst of all, he doesn't know when to shut the hell up.
