Realistic or Modern tra-la-la Triangle

"No.. Im not hungry. I... I ate a big breakfast." James claimed the best he could, rubbing at the back of his neck. He knew the same excuse as yesterday wouldn't work- Arabella had been right there with him when they'd come to the lunch room, and she especially knew he hadn't eaten. But even a big breakfast wouldn't have filled him up for this long.. But he hoped it worked.

Gryphon frowned when his friend denied the food. That frown was not a sad one, more of a dark one that showed nothing but disappointment. "You really don't trust me that much? Interesting..." With that thought in mind he stuffed a bite of pizza into his mouth, keeping himself from sighing. "Hey, do you have a bad sunburn or something? You clearly were hurt when I had touched you earlier?" He and Arabella only wanted to see that James was okay. If that brunette didn't want them to invade into his business then Gryph would step away.

James sat up again at the mention of a sun burn, and simply nodded. "Er.. Yeah. A sun burn. I was out all day yesterday.. That's it. And when I went to go to bed, it hurt.. Really badly.." Of course that was a complete and utter lie, but Gryhpon didn't need to know that.

Gryphon almost believed that, but the way his friend was stumbling over his words made him suspicious. There was no sign made that he believed his friend just a mere mutter of, "Okay...I'll trust you." Deciding to move on from the uncomfortable subject he popped out his phone. "I need your number. Forgot to fetch it yesterday."

"Oh! That's right," James quickly answered, glad the subject had been changed. Grabbing Gryhpon's phone from him, James quickly added a contact with his number and name, then gave it back. "There..."

"Thanks, ohh! A picture!" The contact still lacked his picture. Gryphon ushered his friend to follow him outside. He glanced at Arabella for a moment, pretty sure she already knew what he was trying to do. "C'mon, the weather is really nice today~"

Arabella stayed out of the conversation for the most part as the two boys spoke. She frowned when James again turned down the food that was offered to him and clamed sunburn was what had caused him to flinch earlier. Although she was paying attention to their conversation she kept quiet and ate her lunch.

She glanced up confused when Gryphon suddenly got up to drag James off some where. Seeing thr look he gave her she wasn't sure if that ment she should follow or just stay put. Maybe he was trying to get a moment alone with James to find out what was really wrong. Since she didn't know what else to do she only tilted her head to one side a confused look on her face.

"A picture?" James repeated with a frown at Gryphon, however after a few moments of standing there, decided that it couldn't hurt to follow his friend out. "I guess.." He murmured quietly, shrugging a little when seeing the look that Arabella gave- Though he was sure it was supposed to be towards Gryhpon.

Gryphon let go ahead just a few steps so that he could give a quick thumbs up back at Arabella, trying to let her know that she was okay where she was. Unfortunately he sucked at this sort of signal stuff , hopefully she'd catch it.

Once he and James were outside, where there were no other students around he asked, "Okay, what's really going on? You've been acting weird lately. Not just today or yesterday, it's been a while that you've been like this." Gryphon slipped his phone away. "And I'm pretty sure that's not a sunburn you're hiding."

James instantly frowned at Gryphon when the male started talking. "It is a sunburn. A.. A bad one. That's all." He insisted, as casually as he could manage to. "You don't believe me? What..? Do.. Do I have to show you or something?" He questioned. Of course he wasn't actually going to willingly show Gryhpon the real, colorful bruises beneath his shirts, but he hoped that by saying that, it'd make his story a little more believable.

"When you came walking into school you looked like you were about to start bawling...and I still don't understand the multiple layers; I'd be dying in that." Gryphon paused, pondering on the thought of whether or not he was being insensitive. He wasn't trying to hurt his dear friend. "You can tell me if something is wrong."

In truth, the second layer was just a mask, just in case. He wore a t-shirt beneath the practical sweater, but he was afraid that if he moved to much, one of the bruises might end up showing- Especially the one on his shoulder. "I.. Just.. I didn't want my shoulders to hurt as much when I carried my backpack.." It was a little of the truth..

"....." Gryphon wasn't sure what to say. He wanted to push James and get him to just spit it out already, but at the same time he wondered if it really could be a sunburn. Gently he lifted his hand to reach out, Patting James' arm, didn't expect that he'd have that 'sunburn' everywhere. "Say the word and I'll shut up about the subject."

James just stared at Gryphon for a few moments, before swallowing hard. He wanted to tell his friend.. But at the same time, he didn't. And all he could manage was a few stutters. "I.. I just..." He didn't want to come off as one of those whiny kids who tried acting like their life was so hard. He didn't want people to give him empathy, he didn't want to be seen beneath more people.

Gryphon stopped James, though it didn't look like he was going to be continuing anyways. Taking James' hand he gave it a slight tug. "If you wanted to tell me or someone else then you would've done so already. Let's go back to lunch. It's Arabella's second day here -- can't leave a lady left alone."

"Alright.." James sighed, heading back inside so they could go back to their seats. "Sorry Arabella," He immediately spoke softly after he and Gryphon had sat back down in their seats. "The picture kept catching a glare.."

Arabella just assumed she should stay put so she did. She chuckled lightly at Gyphons thumbs up and waved them off watching them go outside, she assumed to talk. As they were gone she entertained herself by watching the other students in the lunch room talking and laughing, and continued to peck at her lunch.

Seeing James and gryphon return she smiled warmly "It alright, no need to apologize." She said shaking her head and wavig her hands. "Did you finally get a good picture?" She asked as she let her hands fall back into her lap.

"Nah, we'll just get a picture some other time. I'm not desperate for it." Gryphon answered then took another bite of the pizza. After that he decided he was going to have another one of his 'mom moments', "Did you make anymore friends?" He fiddled with his straight black hair, brushing his bangs to the side with his hand. Typical Gryphon. "I could introduce you to some of my friends, if you wish. Though I will admit...they're dorks just like me." He chuckled softly, allowing a smile to appear.

James quietly stared down at the table for a few moments listening to Gryphon talk and offer to introduce Arabella to some of his other friends, and nearly sighed. Suddenly he lifted his head however and looked at Arabella, reaching his hand across the table, palm up. "Can I see your phone?" He questioned.

Arabella nodded as he said they hadn't gotten a picture thus confirming her assuption that they had really gone out to talk rather than take pictures. She wondered if Gryphon had figured out what was wrong or if James just brushed it off again like he had been doing all day.

Hearing him ask if she had made any more friends she shook her head. "No, no one has really talked to me other than you two, but it's ok." She said. She didn't mind not having a bunch of friends all she needed was a few close ones anyway. "If you want to, I'd be happy to meet them . I'm sure your friends are very nice. And you're not a dork" She laughed.

"Oh yeah of course!" She said looking to James as he held out his hand. She quickly got out her phone and gently set it in his hand for him to see. Now she hoped she would have both the boys phone numbers.

"You're just being sweet," Gryphon chuckled softly as Arabella tried to brush away the idea that he was a dork. Truly felt like he was a dork; not a nerd nor a freak, simply a dork.

Gryph went back to his lunch when the dark haired girl's attention moved to his friend, finally finishing his slice of pizza. It felt weird to be wide awake. Usually at this time he'd be yawning or even sneaking in a quick nap, but he didn't need to do either one at this point. He smiled softly, liking the feeling already, though he kept questioning the whole deal with James. Not being aware of what was up with his bestfriend just seemed...wrong.

Having made sure to put his phone number into Arabella's phone before he'd went outside, James absentmindedly watched Gryphon as his friend finished the slice of pizza. He heard a rumble in his stomach and he grimaced. He hadn't had time to eat breakfast in the morning.. Or dinner last night.. He was planning on stopping at a diner after school, though.

Arabella shook her head and smiled at Gryphon "No I'm not, I'm just telling you what I really think" She said with a smile and pushed a few strands of dark hair behind her ear.

Once James finished putting his number into her phone she took it back looking at it for a moment before putting it back in her bag. "So unless you guys already have other plans I was thinking maybe we could do something together after school?" She said looking at both both the boys as she continued to pick at her food.
