Futuristic Those That are Hunted

The two were watching the cameras carefully as they switched from an angle to another. So when the screen flashed black for a second with static effect appearing before the lenses instead of live footage, the non-gifted looked at it with surprise. "The heck? Someone's trying to hack into our system." he said quietly and started typing, trying to find the intruder and this way kick him out and shut him down.

Myths sighed and swiped a hand down her face. "I'm not getting out of this am I?" Sighing once more she grabbed the scalpel and looked at him. "Where do I put this thing?"

Alec knew when the sun was up. His was growing tired and doing this when tired meaned mistakes were going to happen and he just did one. He was quickly able to change his IP address. "Stupid fools. I'm the one who put them in. Don't think you can kick me out so easily." Any other time, Alec would love having a challenge like this, but this time Amelie wasn't in the country and if something happened she couldn't really do anything to help him. Leaning foward in his chair, Alec cracked his knuckles before getting to work. In changing his IP he made sure that if they tried to trace his computer it would show up that I was in the city and not at his house. He turned his attention to another monitor that was black and started typing a really long code in before pressing enter. This cause all the cameras to shut down. "Let's see what they do about this." True doing this cause him to go black on his end as well but it was better than the agent using the cameras to find the boy.

Manjano finally decided that packing up and getting out of here would be his best decision. Find some small town and lay low for a bit. Grabbing his knapsack, Manjano quickly loaded it up with some stolen fruits and then some meats and two bottled waters. Looking over his clothes situation, Manjano realized that he was going to need to get a new pair of clothes along with an extra set. It also probably wouldn't hurt to get some kind of haircut to clean himself up. It could help him with hiding as well. Leaving his 'home', Manjano soon was on the sidewalk with his hoodie covering most of his face for now. People avoided him because of how sketchy he looked, but Manjano would've felt more anxious if he had shown his face to the cameras that he knew were all over town.

"Damn it!" the non-agent growled and punched the table, on which the laptop was sitting. He leaned back and crossed him arms. "What happened?" "All the cameras are dead." he growled and stood up, walking up to the window and looking out through the curtains. A camera was positioned a few meters away from the building - dead as it can be. He cursed again and sat in his chair again, typing on his watch. At least those could not be hacked so easily as street cameras. A hologram appeared, showing a satellite view of town. It would go much slower like this but at least they would have something to work with. Problem was, it didn't have the face recognition software as the street cameras as it viewed the streets from above. What they were looking for now was someone suspicious enough to catch their eye.

Alec leaned back into his chair with a grin on his face. He had no idea that they were scanning with their watches. Afterall, how would he? The only watch he had a cess to was Amelie's and that's because she let him. Feeling that he stopped them from finding the boy,Alec wished there was a way for him to get into contact with him. Maybe he could take the boy under his wing and protect him. Alec's eyes started to close, and not for the first time, he fell asleep at his computer.

"This is going to take ages." the non-gifted murmured. "Help me out, will ya?" he said to his partner, not taking his eyes off of the hologram, now almost the size of a small TV. The earth bender nodded and did the same, looking through the market district. A few minutes later a figure caught the non-gifted's attention. A rather skinny looking figure - possibly a boy, his head covered by a hood, a rucksack on its back. "Take a look at this. Doesn't look like your regular loner school boy." he stated. "Looks like he's moving." the bender said as he looked at the hologram of his partner. "Yeah, looks like it." he said and tapped on the boy, making him a target so the satellite would follow him around the map.

Making his way through the city, Manjano soon entered a thrift store, pulling off his hood and hoping his dirty appearance didn't make anyone force him back outside. Luckily though, he didn't seem to be the only one in rough shape here so he was welcomed just like any other customer. Heading straight to the clothing area, it didn't take long for Manjano to find some black cargo shorts, tennis shoes, a new black and red lightweight hoodie, and a tshirt. He also managed to find an extra set of clothes that were rather similar along with some undergarments. With the clothes in hand, Manjano was about to double check his money situation when something caught his eye in the electronics section, which was only a few feet away. Walking over, Manjano then put his clothes on the ground and picked up a small, portable casette player. Having grown up on the streets most of his life, Manjano had hardly gotten the chance to listen to a whole lot of music. Grinning at the tape player, Manjano was thankful that this store had no cameras and quickly pocketed the player after stashing the headset in a large cargo pocket. Filling his other cargo pocket with all of the tapes nearby, Manjano then picked up his clothes and calmly made his way to the line to check out. Since he grew up on the streets, Manjano's first reaction to any store was to check for cameras. This one seemed to be so old that it didn't have any cameras and it didn't seem to have any AC either. Manjano was beginning to feel himself warming up to the lack of cooling in here.

Seeing the boy enter the thrift shop the two agents watched the entrance closely. When he got out of there, probably the only thing that would differ him from the other customers would be the rucksack. Then, if he headed out of town then that would definitely be their boy.

Relieved that he'd had enough money to buy the clothes, Manjano then went into the nearest changing room and changed into the new set of clothes, hoodie and all. Putting his old clothes in his knapsack, Manjano then put his black scarf around his neck again, his only possession that reminded him of his parents. Throwing his knapsack over his back again, Manjano then exited the thrift store and pulled his hood up again to hide most of his face. He then began walking through the city, looking at store signs as he tried to locate a barber. He just needed to get his hair cut and then probably a good meal before he tried to leave the city. To anyone else, it'd look like he was just going through a normal day though. Besides appearing sketchy in appearance, Manjano really wasn't doing anything too abnormal. At least, that was what he kept telling himself. His heart kept speeding up whenever someone looked at him. The last thing he wanted was to run into those agents again. Not after they'd managed to take down a shifter that could change into a dragon on top of many other animals.

"He looks nervous." the bender stated as they watched him look around. "Yeah. And he has good reason to be. He knows we're after him." "What do you think? Should we call for our sniper team?" "And what do you think they'll arrive with, hm? Yup, choppers. It's a small town. If he sees them coming he'll hide. We'll get him when he's out of town." he said and kept looking. "Hey, make yourself useful. Go get us some breakfast." The bender rolled his eyes and stood up, going down to the dining hall of the hotel. A few minutes later he returned with some sandwiches. "There. You happy now, oh almighty..." "Yeah, thanks." he said as he took one and bit into it.

As Manjano walked about, he soon spotted a barber up ahead and entered the shop after asking for a cut. His blonde hair had been like a mop for years now and it was due time that he got it cut shorter. While he was at it, Manjano also paid the barber to dye his hair and eyebrows. Further changing his appearance. Once the barber was done, Manjano paid him and then exited the building, this time with his hood off.

Running a hand through his shorter hair, Manjano grinned and then began walking down the sidewalk, his confidence growing and people no longer avoiding him. Next thing to do was to get a good meal. But where to? Walking past a burger joint, Manjano stopped and then entered it, imagining how delicious a burger must taste. As bad as he felt about having stolen all of that girl shifter's money, Manjano had no problem affording anything now. Sitting down inside, Manjano began eating the first of three burgers he'd ordered while also enjoying some fries and the coke he'd gotten.

"He's taking his sweet time to get out of town." the gifted growled as he took his seat back. After almost an hour they finally saw him exit the building, all changed up. "Well, look who's getting all fancy." the gifted added. "Are we sure this is our guy? Maybe this is just some random beggar." "Well, then we would have caught the wrong one. Big deal. We'll just leave him by the road to wake up and be on his way again." Then they saw him enter another store. "Oh, come on..." the gifted rolled his eyes and stood up to carry the plate back down.

Tucker had finished most of his food at this point. Sipping some water, he then said to Kytha in a whisper, "You see that center console? In the middle of the red ring? Use the scalpel to pry it open."

Manjano finished eating in about half an hour and then finally exited the building after taking a bathroom break. Looking around for a moment, Manjano was unsure of where to go and then he began walking down the sidewalk. He needed to find a bus stop. Once he was on a bus, it wouldn't take long for him to get out of the city. Another fifteen minutes passed before Manjano finally found a bus stop. Sitting down on the bench there, he then pulled out the cassette player and put on the headphones. Digging through the tapes in his other pocket, Manjano soon pulled out one that was labeled, 'Awesome Mix Vol. 1'. Unsure of what to expect, Manjano put it in and then pressed play. It didn't take long for Manjano to be grinning and tapping his foot to the music.

The two agents watched the boy get to the bus stop and disappear under the cover of the cabin. "Taking the bus." "I can see that." the non-gifted replied and opened the browser on his computer again, looking through the different buses that went through and out of town. "There are a couple of buses heading towards different cities and towns. Let's see where you're going."

Soon, a bus pulled up while Manjano was jamming to his new music. Seeing the bus' arrival, Manjano stood up and slung his knapsack over one shoulder before boarding the bus. Pulling his headphones off to talk with the bus driver, Manjano grinned when he figured out that this bus was going to a nearby small town. Perfect. After paying the bus fares, Manjano then went to the far back of the bus and took a seat alone. Putting his knapsack down by his feet, Manjano then pulled his headphones back on and was soon staring out the window, watching buildings and people as the bus began to make its way out of the city.

"There. He's getting in." "Can you please stop stating obvious facts?!" the non-gifted replied, almost yelling. "Where is it heading?" "Oh my God..." he murmured and rubbed his forehead. "Go get me a glass of water, will ya?" he asked. There was currently no way for them to know where it was headed as their view was quite limited. Once they were out of town he would use a traffic camera to look at the label or if that also didn't work, they would simply follow it to its destination. The bender soon returned with the water and joined his side again.

As the bus drove along, Manjano soon was nodding off with music blaring in his headphones. By the time the bus halted for a rest stop, Manjano was jolted awake and shot to his feet, unsure of what had just happened. Seeing that they were just taking a break while still en route, Manjano relaxed and then sat back down. He had no reason to get off at the rest stop so he instead settled back down in his seat. Seeing that the tape had stopped, Manjano began rewinding it, watching with a slight amusement.

The moment the bus had left town, the two agents changed positions. The bender opened his watch and continued watching the bus as his partner was checking traffic cameras. He got into one just as the bus was nearing itself and managed to snap a photo. "Georgetown." He shot up and they started to pack their things - mainly the laptop. All the clothes and accessories were already packed into their small compact suitcases. They rushed out of the room and threw their belongings into the car parked outside. It was just a normal looking car but with an enhanced engine so it could go quite faster. Then they were off, the non-gifted driving while the bender was still looking at his watch. They didn't need to rush it too much as buses usually stopped to rest and they weren't going very fast either. The bender also called Texas HQ, informing them of the gifted's position and where it was headed. The bus wouldn't make many stops through town till it got to the bus station so snipers would be positioned on each of those stops. A single one of those darts with electricity flowing through them could take down a horse so a simple boy wouldn't be much of a trouble. The moment he stepped out, the darts would fly.

Soon, the bus was on the move again and Manjano had his music playing once more. Hearing that it'd be another hour until a rest stop again, Manjano resolved to stare out the window for a bit. He'd gotten enough sleep for now and felt much more awake now. It didn't take long for the rows of hills and forests to soon become boring to Manjano. Sighing, he sat up and then peered over the seat in front of him to see that nobody was sitting there. Looking to the side, he also noted that there seemed to only be about seven other people on the bus and nobody was sitting near him. Sitting back down in his seat, Manjano then grinned to himself as he stuck his hand through the seat in front of him, imagining how terrified someone would be if they felt a hand on their back. Chuckling at this, Manjano continued to mess around for the next hour or so until they reached their second rest stop. This time though, Manjano decided he'd get off the bus to at least stretch his legs. Waiting until the bus driver and the other passengers had all left, Manjano then put his knapsack on his back and hooked his cassette player to his belt before he got up and exited the bus, making his way over to a nearby picnic table where he then began stretching a bit while letting out a small yawn.

"Whoa! Slow down. They're making another rest stop." the bender said as he watched the bus turn to a gas station. They were still quite far behind but they didn't want to risk losing him or making him suspicious. That's why they stopped at a fast food restaurant just a few kilometers before the gas station the bus was at, waiting for it to get going again. Probably after ten minutes or so.

Sighing to himself, Manjano was just about to debate if he should use the restroom when the bus driver entered the bus again and honked the horn to signal for everyone to board again. Manjano joined the small crowd and then they were all soon aboard the bus again. Leaning back in his seat, Manjano glanced out his window, as the bus started up and then began driving again. Finding everything so boring, Manjano soon took out the cassette he'd played through twice now and replaced it with what appeared to be Vol. 2 of the collection. Pressing play, Manjano then closed his eyes while listening to the new music. Soon enough, he was sleeping yet again.

When the bus took off, the agents did too, driving at the same speed to keep the distance between them. They were halfway through till they reached the town. "I wonder if the boy will be clever enough to accept the offer to become an agent." the bender said after a moment. "Dunno." he replied and after a moment continued. "You know, I don't get it. Why would so many gifted prefer life in prison than serving their country, travel the world, have all the privileges we have?" "Bad impression I guess. We're hunters after all. And they are the prey." "Well, they look at it from the wrong side." the non-gifted said finally and they were silent again, focusing at their task.

The next rest stop came in view and the bus driver asked the passengers if anyone needed a break. Manjano was still passed out and so when the others said they were okay, the bus driver nodded and then continued driving past the rest stop, continuing on its way into town. Another half hour or so passed and then the bus arrived at the edge of the town, slowing to a stop at the local bus stop. Manjano woke up at this and let out a small groan before pocketing his cassette player and headphones. Putting his knapsack on his back, Manjano then exited the bus with the rest of the passengers, before walking off into the town, wondering where the local hotel or motel was.

When the bus arrived at the stop, the snipers were already at their positions. One was viewing the street from a high apartment window, while the other was on the roof of another building. They were communicating with each other, with HQ and with the two agents at the same time through their radios. "Bus is coming." the one on the roof with the higher ground said as he saw the vehicle approaching. When the passengers started getting off, their rifles were already loaded and pointing at the door. Once the boy was out as well the one in the apartment turned his radio back on as he was the only one that had a clear shot. "I have eyes on my target." he said in a low monotone voice and kept looking through the scope, finger ready on the trigger. "Take the shot." He had gotten his orders from HQ. He pulled the trigger, the gun went off with a loud bang and the dart flew. It was a small distance and only a speedster would be able to react on time to avoid it. The electricity would be released shortly before the impact and maximize its effect as it came in contact with the target. The boy would be down in an instant, his body thrown into convulsions of pain.
