Futuristic Those That are Hunted

Hearing the roar Amelie got confused. Then she saw the dragon emerge from the fire and her mouth dropped. Never in years of being a field agent has she seen a shifter who could do that. "How the hell are we to fight that?!" Amelie was about done with this crap. Maybe she would be better off working for the academy.

( xD Quickly, someone make a new character! Hahaha! On a side note, you gotta know how hard it must be for shapeshifters to fight some of these beings in the world without being able to access mythological beasts as well)

Xander slowed down his bending, letting his fire tornado dissipate after a few seconds. He quickly yelled at Amelie, "Use your ice to hurt its wings! If we can ground it, then we can fight it!" He waited for Amelie to go into action, knowing she'd be their only chance at this point.

Ky's eyes widen but let's her lift them. "Get to the forest now!" She screams up at her. She looks down to see toron on the ground she sighs and hopes he does the right thing. "Good luck." She mumbles quietly and waits.

Toron sees them rise into the air and sprints away. "I will be right back!" He yells over his shoulder and sprints to the forest. He calmly waits for their arrival. "C'mon! Where are you!" He says worriedly as he begins pacing.

(Now that I think about it. Lioness is right. As shifters we might feel a little underpowered. Could we perhaps include some extras to our gift. (Kytha and me, if she wants of course) I have an idea for mine but only if you are okay with it, CherryBlossom.)

Piper roared as she felt ice shards striking her wings. She did a u-turn mid-flight, and then proceeded to tuck in her wings and dive. Around 200 feet from the ground, Piper leveled out, flying straight towards the agents. She let loose a roar before preparing to let loose a torrent of fire at the agents.

When Vulcan saw the dragon he couldn't believe his eyes. He always thought them as some old and forgotten legend and now, looking at one in real life was quite overwhelming. But he couldn't give it much thought as he still had the wyrms to deal with. As Amelie shot her ice shards at its wings it became enraged, turning around and attacking them. They had to flee. They couldn't fight a mythical flying beast, about to turn them into living torches with its fire. Vulcan abruptly let a wyrm loose, sprinting into a side alley - right on time to see the flames fly past him, melting all the wyrms following him. Thanks for that. The heat envelopes him even in his hiding, fiery tongues licking his fur, followed by the unpleasant smell of burned hair. But as fast as the flames had come they rush past him. He dares look out. Xander wasn't his greatest concern - fire was flowing through his veins. Vulcan was looking out for Amelie. Hopefully she was able to create a shield that could withstand the fire or at least run into safety.

When the fire hit the street, it consumed the wyrms and the two agents. In the midst of the flames, Xander had sprinted to Amelie's side and grabbed her waist before putting his hand up to the dragon and blocking all of the flames that surrounded them. The two agents were in a small semicircle in the midst of the flames that was safe and clear of the flames. Xander then let go of Amelie's waist and began bending a path clear of flames to the alleyway that he'd seen Vulcan sprinting towards.

Vulcan sees his partners approaching him and sighs in relieve that they were alright - for now. He turns human in order to speak to them. "Did you see what I just saw? I've never seen a Therian shift into mythical beasts before. We can't possibly defeat it here. We need to retreat and maybe follow them in the forest to their hideout. A dragon that size can't fly up through the trees... hopefully."

When the dragon dove after them Amelie groaned. "Yes Xander, let's provoke the fire breathing dragon." She said in a mocking tone. There was no way she was going to survive this. Before she could attempt to make a shield Xander grabbed her by the waist and blocked the flames. The heat from the flames felt nice at first and then it started to hurt. Once they were clean she followed Xavier to Vulcan's side. "I've never heard of this kind of shifter before. How do we fight it?"

Suddenly something catches Vulcans eye on his left. A raven was sitting on the top of a street lamp, completely unbothered by the dragon or the flames. Its body was surrounded by a dark black fog, as if it was burning. Its eyes glowing red. They couldn't take their eyes off of each other. This was no random bird. Vulcan nods at it with consent and it nods back. Perhaps he looked completely insane to Amelie and Xander who didn't seem to notice the creature. But the harvester wasn't known for his patience. He wanted for them to meet and there was only one way to do that. Vulcan had no weapon to use. This better not be the heat messing with my head.

He sighs and grabs Amelie by the shoulder, turning her around to face him. He eyes her dead serious. "Amelie, you have to do me a favor. Kill me. Just stick something in my chest, go for the heart. I don't want it to take ages. Come on, I know that you've always wanted to do this. And no, I'm not going insane. Trust me on this."

(you can't see the raven but it's there)

Xander blankly stared at Vulcan as he realized the man must've finally snapped or something. Then again, seeing a living dragon could potentially do that to someone. He decided to wait for Amelie's response though, as Vulcan hadn't directed his demand towards him at all. He clearly wasn't involved in this conversation.

Piper veered back up to the sky, the street below her now engulfed in flames here and there. She gained altitude, flying over a few buildings before she titled and adjusted her direction as they began heading towards the forest. Her wings were powerful enough so that whenever she beat them near a skyscraper, the nearest windows would shatter from the force of the winds. She grinned, completely enjoying this strength. It wasn't often that she got to exhibit such power. Her grin soon faded as she realized that her assassination plan was now ruined thanks to these rebels. She knew she could've taken the life of the male shapeshifter if the other female shapeshifter hadn't gotten involved so recklessly. She'd had it all planned out and was more than ready to execute it, but now that wasn't going to happen.

( Still so thankful that I can still catch up... Uhh! Exams are seriously pulling me down! Oh and let's say after everything that happened, I went unconscious or something. I really have no idea how to react to all those stuff...)

Hayden was... unconscious. (lol)

(makes sense. He has drained 75% from his own life essence after all. Not sure how he broke his leg however...)

Amelie looked at Vulcan like he was crazy. "Why the hell would I do that? I'm not going kill you." She couldn't believe what he was asking her to do. She trusted him but she wasn't going to kill him. "Are you sure you aren't going insane because it sure does sound like it."

"Gosh! I can't ask Xander because burning to death is by far the most painful and slow way to go and time is scarce right now. I'm not going suicidal, nor crazy here - survival instinct, remember? I know you can't see it but it's there!" he points to the lamp, where the raven was still sitting, watching him, waiting. Vulcan turns his gaze to it and yells at the bird. "Look what you are making me do!" Vulcan was aware that it was in their best interest not to lay eyes on the creature or more precisely the figure hiding underneath the animal shell. He turns back to Amelie, a begging look on his face. "I know what I'm doing. If you don't wanna do it then at least give me something to do it myself."

Amelie turned to look at where he was looking and saw nothing. When he started yelling at whatever it was she began to worry but seeing the look on his face she gave in. Quick and painless. In a split second a needle form in her hand she stabbed it through his heart. The ice would numb the pain if there was any. "You better come back from this. If you don't my brother will never let you go to the other side." Her way of torment since she wouldn't actually be able to do something.

"Thank you..." Vulcan whispers as he exhales with a painful moan and pulls the shard out. It has done enough damage but it shouldn't stay in there. The pain would soon fade away. His vision becomes blurry and his eyes slowly close as he falls to the ground.

When he opens his eyes again the world around him is nothing like it used to be. Amelie and Xander were nowhere to be seen. The streets and the buildings were the same, yes, but there was like a constant wind, blurring every detail. But there was also something new, something was wrong, off.

Dark red orbs were floating in the air, leaving a crimson tail of smoke behind. They looked almost like some wicked Christmas decoration, filled with some thick red blood-like liquid - souls trapped in shells. But why were there so many of them? They were traveling in big swarms all around - high in the crimson red sky and low, carried by the winds. Some looked bigger and stronger, others were smaller and weak, flying slow and low to the ground. Vulcan had never seen things like these before.

A normal human being would probably be panicked and in shock at the sight of all this. But Vulcan was no ordinary human. This wasn't the first time he had been in this dimension - the spirit realm. He had often been at the brink of death and had seen the very same picture every single time.

The Grim Reaper was standing before him, a skeleton like thin body, dressed in his black silk raps, smiling kindly.

"Hello, Death"

"Hello, Vulcan"

His voice sounded deep and scary, as if there were more then one speaking at the same time. Many more voices could be heard, almost like a whisper in the background as he spoke.

"You called me here"

"Yes"

"What do you want?"

"Is that a way to greet an old friend?"

Vulcan smirks as he confidently looks into Death's hollow eyes - fearlessly. Who knew Death was a joker.

"Of course not. I'm happy to see you. But we are wasting time here."

Vulcan plays around with one of the orbs that comes near him.

"What are those things? Why are there so many of them?"

"You tell me."

Vulcan needed a minute to think before speaking again. "Are those all the souls from the inn?"

"Yes, from other locations as well. Every time the life essence is stolen from a body the soul stays locked in here."

"What happens with them then?"

The angel of death lifts his skeletal arm to point at a small orb a few meters away from where they were standing, laying on the ground, cracked and weak, too flabby to fly or at least be carried by the winds. It was just laying there like a dying fish on the bottom of an aquarium. Its colors were fading. Vulcan walks to it, crouching down to examine it. His hand reaches out to touch it but the moment his fingers lick the surface of the shell the orb falls apart, leaving only ashes behind, carried away by the wind.

"I see... So why did you call me here?"

"There is a way to free the souls within without breaking their shells and turning them to dust. That's where you come in."

"Me? How am I supposed to do that? And isn't that your job..."

"Those are not simply souls, Vulcan. There are hidden powers inside these orbs. They will aid you in battle and once the essence inside is used up they will dissolve. You will take them outside the spirit world. Everything else is my concern."

"Aha... And what happens when I run out of orbs?"

"As long as there is life in the world, there will always be souls for me to harvest and for you to use. You are not restricted to those you see. You will be my representative in the living world... And now it's time for you to leave."

Vulcan obediently walks back. The Grim Reaper lifts his hand and draws a muster in the air. For a few seconds the same muster appears glowing over Vulcans body, then it is as if soaked into the skin.

"New tattoos?"

The angel of death just grins a dark grin.

Vulcans body begins to fade, dissolve, become transparent and carried away by the wind in the form of smoke. He closes his eyes to make the transition from the spirit realm to the living world easier and painlessly. It was a weird experience every single time.

First his fingers slowly twitch, then his eyes and teeth clench, the muster appears one more time over his skin, glowing up even through his clothes before fading away again. His eyes open abruptly, flashing red, he inhales sharply, his heart beats fast. The blood slowly returns to his body, restoring the warm tones of his skin. His hand moves over the area where Amelies shard had pierced him - there was no wound, not even stains of blood. He sits up and pulls the end of his shirt up only to see that all his old tattoos had been replaced by the dark crimson muster, except for the verse on his chest. He looks at the street lamp, where the raven had been standing minutes ago but now it was gone. Then he looks back at his partners, smiling kindly.

"It's so weird. Every single time. I really have to think of a better way to enter and leave."

I should try this new ability. He lifts his palm to eye level and imagines an orb. Immediately a small red orb appears from thin air, dancing around his hand and fingers, leaving a red smoky tail wherever it went "Curious..."

(that's what it kinda looks like)

What was only a few minutes felt like hours for Amelie. Was the man she loved never coming back? She had to place his body on the ground for she couldn't hold his weight. She knelt down beside his body and held his hand. Suddenly she felt movement and when he went to sit up she let go. Under his shirt was something that surprised her. "What the..." All Amelie could do was stare at what used to be his tattoos. A red orb appeared out of no where, causing Amelie to move back. "What happened to you? Your tattoos...what is that orb?"

"Remember when I told you about the verse? I lied, it isn't a tattoo. Years ago I made a deal with Death and now this is perhaps the fulfillment of his part." Vulcan lets the orb fly around. It behaved like a curious little beast, exploring everything around it - almost as if it had a personality. It kinda made sense since there was a soul trapped inside that shell. "I still have no idea what these little guys can do but I guess we will find out sooner or later." He stands up from the ground, stretching. "So what's the plan now?"
