Things that lurk in the dark.

"I dont know, ive been thinking about finding a nice tree." he said with a grin before getting serious. "Dont worry ill find a place. As for the wings i do plan to hide them, i have no reason to attract attention. Well since im no longer a death reaper i guess you could say im your guardian angle Ally." He said with a smile. "Though i do wonder what your parent will think if you started with someone as dark and handsome as me." He said with a wicked grin of self confidence. He laid on the bed his wings stretching out to full wingspan of 8 feet. "That is unless you want me to stay away from you and protect you in the shadows, after all i dragged you into this."

Ally frowned she was the only human he knew, at least that was what she assumed. So where did he think he was going to stay? "You could stay here... just as long as my parents don't find out" She offered and peeked over at him through her hair. She knew her mother would not like the ides of some boy, well grim reaper, demon thing, staying in her room. She laughed when he said he was her guardian angel "You are no angel" She told him giving him a skeptical look. " who says I would want to start up with you anyway hm?" She asked standing up her arms crossing over her chest, rolling her eyes at his sudden cockyness. "And just because I said you could stay here dosen't mean you can steal my bed" She said poking his wing. All of a sudden both their attitudeds had changed it was as if they had been friends for years, and in a way they had been. "No, you don't have to stay away. After all this is only happening because you saved me, it would be rude of me to push you away now." She sighed

"I guess i could, your closet is pretty big." He said actually thinking about it. "Not to mention it be kind of dumb if you died after getting attacked in the night because i wasent here. When she claimed him to be no angel his grin widened. "Technically i could be, i have the wings. Though since their black i guess it would make me a fallen angel which also makes sense." He smirked when she said why would she date him anyway. "I dont know, but i heard women love men with wings." He said keeping up his cockiness. "But im the boogeyman you know in the closet under the bed." He said with a laugh. "Alright then i will stay." He closed his eyes. "Sit with me for awhile."

"well I didn't expect my closet to be the first place you'd want to sleep but if that's what you want go right a head" She laughed softly at the thought of him squishing with and his wings into her closet. In the morning she'd open the door to see him and ask him to grab her clothes for her. The thought made her giggle. "Just because you have the wings it doesn't make you an angel" She argued a small smile on her lips. "Okay, I'll admit the wings are cool, but don't let it go to your head" She told him and carefully moved next to him on the bed. Looking over at him she smiled, with his eyes closed like that, along with his messy hair he almost looked boyish, it was kind of cute..

"Where else would i sleep, your mom would probably see me anywhere else. Id hate to think she'd look under your bed to clean and just see a winged man sleeping there. Im pretty sure i would scare her quite bit." He said with a chuckle. "And wings definitely makes you a angel, its in the handbook, or a bird but im missing a beak." He was almost surprised he was quite enjoying this conversation despite the fact this was really the second real conversation hes had with her. When she came next to him his wing came closer to her, surprisingly it was quite warm and seemed as strong as a arm. "You dont have to worry about hurting my wings. Reapers have always kind of ignored physics so unlike most birds out wings are actually quite solid."

"Well my mom doesn't really come in my room that much, as long as you were gone by time she woke up she wouldn't know" She said with a shrug. Both her parents were busy most of the time, normally not paying her much mind. It wouldn't be that hard for her to hide him in her room. "I think you're more of a bird" She teased and poked him in the ribs. She watched her eye going wider as his wing came closer, hesitantly she reached out her hand touching it. I felt different than what she had expected. She had expected it to feel more delicate but as he had said it was much more solid. The feathers slipped between her fingers as slowly she ran her hand down his wing without thinking.

"I guess, though ive never slept before so i wouldnt know how to wake up." He said slightly mystified, he had never gotten the whole human sleeping thing. Why would they need to sleep to replenish their energy, wouldnt relaxing and meditation do that for them? "As for me being a bird, i dont know about that, i've never seen a bird that can speak human tongue and ive been alive for 1000's of years." He actually shivered a bit slightly when she touched his wings, the nerves on his wings were very sensitive to detect air currents so her finger touching the skin brought about a interesting sensation.

"You don't have to know how to, it just happens" She chuckled since he clearly didn't understand how sleeping worked. "Don't reapers ever sleep?" She asked curiously an eyebrow raised. She was making little mental notes of everything he told her about reapers and other supernatural things. "Fine you're not a bird, but I still won't say you're an angel." She told him stubbornly. She was still moving her hand over his wing when she felt him shiver. Quickly she pulled her hand away a deep blush forming on her cheeks "Sorry.." She mumbled softly looking embarrassed.

"We never feel tired unless we do a large amount of magic and even then that energy can be recovered by meditation and time. So no i don think a reaper has ever slept." He said seemingly thinking. "Perhaps my father or macus would know if it was possible, they've been alive for a lot longer then i have." he said actually curious about the idea of a reaper sleeping. When she decided he wasent a bird but not a angel he raised a eyebrow. "If not not a bird or angel then what am i?" He said challenging her to come up with a answer. When she pulled away from him said. "What are you sorry for? it didnt hurt, it just felt... Strange. This human body seems even more sensitive then my normal body, i was just unprepared for the amplified feeling."

Ally hummed softly as she thought about what it was like to never have to sleep. As time wore on she was becoming more tired and she slid down the bed yawning softly. "I don't know what you are.. You're just a whole diffrent things completely." She said eventually after thinking about it for a few moments. Her eyes closed as it became too tiresome to keep them open. "I just don't know why I did that." She told him tiredly. Slowly she began to fall asleep, and after a few more minutes she was out cold.

He chuckled at her answer. "Fair enough, i guess i am something completely new." He said actually thinking about it, what was he anymore? He wasent human nor was he reaper. As far as he knew he was the only one of his kind that had been put into this situation so what was he? Then he suddenly became aware of the girl slipping into sleep beside him and he chuckled. "Humans have so little stamina." He said as she fell into sleep beside im. While she started sleeping akio hummed like he had seen father's and mothers hum to thier daughters for time immortal to help them sleep, the tone changed but the meaning never did. He chose a particular hum he knew from a roman women near the end of the western roman empire and hummed it for many minutes. As he did this he realized his own eyes were getting heavy. He looked over at the sleeping girl. "She forgot to let me get up.. Ah well." His wings wrapped a bit protectively around her and he closed his eyes feeling himself slip into sleep. 'So this is what sleep feels like, huh.' was his last thought before he fell into his first slumber.

The next morning Ally woke up as the sun came through her window shining on her face. Bringing her hand up she rubbed her eyes waiting for everything to come into focus. Noticing the wings wrapped around her she looked next to her smiling when she was the boy asleep next to her. She didn't even remember falling asleep and she guessed he stayed there because getting up would have involved moving her. Glancing at the clock she was relieved to see there was still some time before she had to get up for school. She reajusted herself careful not to disturb him and closed her eyes again resting for a while longer. She dreaded going to school so much that she put off going until the last possible minute. Everyday was a living hell for her, if she could have she would have just stopped going a long time ago when the bullying started. She even tried to get her parents to let her transfer but they brushed that idea away pretty quickly. They said it was silly for her to run away just because she had been called a few names. They obviously did not understand how bad it could get sometimes. They were much to busy with their work to actually pay attention to their daughter for longer than a few minutes, unless it was to tell her she was being delusional.

Akio opened his eyes slowly, his first time sleeping had definitely left him no reason to get up as he lay there. He felt something warm against him. 'Ally.' He thought for a second his wings wrapping around her tighter but surprisingly more comfortably. "Uhhhhh what time is it?" He said sounding for a minute like a typical teenage boy.

"Oh you're awake" She said surprised feeling his wings wrap tighter around her, pulling her closer. " How was you're first time sleeping?" She asked opening her eyes and turning her head to face him. A small smile still lingering on her lips. "It's almost six" She told him an amused look in her eye. "We have to get ready for school soon" She half groaned her eyes closing again. It would be nice if she could just lie there all day without ever having to get up, but sadly that was not the case.

"Tiring." He said in a voice still heavy with sleep. He opened his eyes and looked at Ally. "Alright." He unwrapped his wings and stretched his arms. "I still need to enroll so ill have to leave early and round up with you there." He suddenly seemed saddened by the prospect of leaving. "Ill arrange it so i am in the same class as you."

She laughed "I thought sleep was supposed to do the oppisite " She teased and moved to sit up after he had unwrapped his wrings from around her. "Oh okay, well I guess I'll see you there" She said and brushed her hair out of her eyes. The idea of him going to school with her, being in all her classes, seemed a little strange to her. With a yawn she forced herself to get out of bed and go to the closet picking out her clothes for the day so she could start getting ready, despite how much she didn't want to.

"Alright." He said getting up and straightening his hair a little bit which now looked something resembling a bee nest. Then he went to the window and said. "Ill see you at the front door and walk with you to first period, so long." He said with a smile before leaping out the window and flying off. When he got to the school he landed in a back deserted area and folded his wings to his back and put on a black sweater he had been carrying. He then walked around to the front of the school and entered the front office. At the desk was the student assistant who was looking quite bored. He strode over to the desk and she said "Yes." In a bored tone hearing his foot steps till he looked up and he mouth nearly dropped seeing akio. Akio's mortal form may have been a tone town from his godly form but he still looked quite good. The assistant sat up straighter and straightened her hair quickly trying to look good. "Yes what do you need?" She said suddenly attentive. Akio smiled a bad boy smile and said. "Yes id like to enroll, and id like this schedule." He said handing over a copy of your schedule which he knew from watching you everyday. "Um thats very specific and some of these classes are full." Akio leaned in. "Is that a problem?" The girl blushed a deep red and shook her head no multiple times. "No... No problem!" Akio winked. "Thanks i own you one!" He said walking out as the girl tried to calm down and figure out who that guy was. He then sat at the front entrance and soon was attracting a lot of fascination from the other student, girl who were all but swooning already and guys trying to figure out who he was. However he was napping so his eyes were closed and he payed them no mine though he enjoyed the attention.

Looking back over her shoulder at him she nodded. "Okay, see you there" She said and watched a bit amazed as he just threw himself out her window and flew off. She certainly hoped that no one saw him. She wondered at what people would think seeing some strange winged boy flying through the air. She also wondered at how he would be able to get the same schedule, it wasn't like they let you choose. They just put you in the classes that were open. She tried not to worry about it to much she figured she would find out once she met him in front of tha school. She spent the rest of the morning slowly getting ready putting on her usual outfit of a shirt and skirt, combing her hair, and grabing something to eat all before walking out the door while she tugged her back back onto her shoulders.

She walked the few short blocks to her school. As she approached the front entrance she noticed everyone seemed quite more excited than usual. Was that because of Akio? She wondered. Had he done something to draw attention to himself? Getting closer she saw he was just laying out not doing anything so she wasn't sure what everyone was so excited about. She began to walk towards him but before she could even take a few steps in his direction someone grabbed her backpack jerking it back causing her to stumble. "Hey ghost, I don't know how you got out of that closet yesterday but maybe we can try it again today and find out" Daniel, one of her usual tormentors, said with a laugh. He was one of the more twisted ones she was almost certain he was some sort of sociopath, and would one day become a serial killer.

Akio was quite enjoying all the attention he was getting, when he was a reaper as death's son plenty of attention always surrounded him so he was used to this. However he was keeping watch on his surroundings, even threw all the chatter he could hear the area around him, the wind whistling threw the grass, and many, many conversations. And then he heard a voice he recognized. One of the bully that had locked Ally in the closet that day, and from his tone he was about to go for a second attempt. He opened and every one looked at him in surprise at the sudden awakening but he was already moving. Suddenly he was at ally's side with one hand on Daniel's arm. "Excuse me but i think you should back away now."

Ally frowned and tried to pull free of the boys grasp but to no avail. "Leave me alone" She said shooting him a glare. Daniel only laughed as was about to say something else but was stopped by Akio's hand grabbing his arm. Ripping his arm away from him he narrowed his eyes at the new boy. " I don't think this concerns you, and if you know whats good for you you'll mind your own buisness" Daniel said challenging him as he pulled Ally forcefully away from Akio. Ally let out a small sound as she was thrown around nervous about what might happen. She just wanted to be let go and avoid making things worse or a fight.

Akio's smile suddenly got a lot more forced, suddenly his hand shot out grabbing his wrist and pushing down on his tendon hard and Daniels hand shot open automatically and Akio moved Ally gently back. Akio looked at daniel and with a smile like a wolf he said. "I would stay back if i were you." his foot shot out a drew a line grass. "Pass that and i will have to hurt you very badly.

Ally watched wide-eyed as Akio made it so Daniel was forced to let her go. As so as she was free she moved back towards Akio out of Daniel's reach. Daniel stared hard at the dark haired boy clenching his fist as he thought it over for a moment. "This isn't over.." He growled before walking of disappearing inside the school. Everyone around them had seemed to notice the scene, and as Daniel stormed away they all began to chatter anxiously wonder who the new kid was, and why on earth was he talking to Ally?

Noticing the attention Ally shrunk back a bit shooting a glance towards her savior. "Thank you." She said adjusting her backpack on her shoulders. All the eyes on her made her feel uncomfortable. She was used to trying to be invisible; hence the name 'ghost' people liked to call her, because they couldn't be bothered to figure out her actual name.

"Its fine i was never very found of your bully's anyway." He said in a voice that would have sounded chipper to casual observer but to Ally who knew him it sounded angry. "Come on lets go to the first period." He set off with her to first period, any stares or talk he heard he paid no mind. He seemed to give everyone but Ally a wall of mystery that couldnt be penetrated by just looks and so far no one had worked up the courage to talk to him after he stood up for Ally.

She could tell by the tone in his voice he was still angry. "He's not going to leave you alone just because you scared him off this time." She warned him. She knew how Daniel worked, he would go away until he knew how to get back at Akio for making him look bad, and when he did he would not go easy. That was how Ally had learned not to anger him as much as possible.

When he said they should go to class she nodded and walked along beside him. She cast one last glance towards the people talking about them as they passed. "You're causing quite a commotion" She said glancing sideway at the boy next to her, a smirk on her face as they entered the school. For the first time in a long time she was able to walk to class without being bothered, seeing as everyone was to afraid of Akio to even come near either of them.

"I can deal with people like Daniel, my mentor gave me a present before i came down here." He said confidently as moved threw out the hall. He played the crowds well, when one shy group of girls finally convinced one of them to wave at him he flashed a grin and waved back. This encouraged others to do similar things and soon it seemed like he had always been part of the landscape, passing greetings like he knew everyone which in a way he did from his time watching. Most of all however he gave off a aura of friendliness but one of command as well that made people want to be with him till he all but had a crowd following him.
