Experiences Things that instantly make you drop an RP

One of the things that bothered me on another site was when I would join a RP for "Intermediate" writers, where the major requirements was grammar, spelling and length. Then either the OP or someone else who joined would post absolutely awful posts and in general were just... annoying. For example, we were doing a werewolf roleplay and one person was posting along the lines of: I saw a huge shadow and it scared me! I am scared and going to run away, but I tripped! and that would be their entire post. Then next post they would be somewhere completely different cutting in to conversations like they were there the whole time and know the speakers (who they have never met).
I mean I usually tried to stay in it and deal, or help them improve if they were open to it, but sometimes... Yikes. The aforementioned werewolf one died quickly, mostly because of that one person. It wasn't on a Roleplay based site, so people there were not as committed either.

Another thing that bothers me is when people just write themselves in without asking. Like oh, thanks, you are my characters sister now? We are dating all of a sudden? Since when? Wow, my character must have been doing some crazy stuff when I was offline! I'm fine with little changes in character relation to be able to draw more characters in, if people ask first. Just randomly putting it in there without asking, and just assuming that it is fine (no, you totally didn't just ruin a plot point that I had planned with someone else, not at all) irks me. If it can be resolved, fine. But if stuff like that keeps happening, I'm out.

I'm in agreement with the other posts here as well about mental illness and LGBT. My best friend is Bipolar, and I hate when people don't do their research or pretend "Yeah I have this illness but I'm fine!". It doesn't happen like that in most cases. I can't speak as an authority, but from my personal experiences it just doesn't.

There are probably other things that annoy me too but those are all I can think of right now :-_-lines: I wouldn't outright quit if there was a chance of salvation, but in some cases I have gotten to the point of "Nope, I'm out!" when it comes to some of the above.

When things become tedious. I've been in roleplays that have started out really fun and detailed, but after some time, we just start sending one-liners. It just become boring at that point.

When you and the person plot something together and they ghost you before you or they have even started. ._. I have too many instances of it and it's sad.

I find the best thing to do in this situation is to look at their profile. If they have not been online since they last talked to you than it's probably some unavoidable IRL thing that came up. If you can message them off site I'd do that or just wait for them to come back.

If they are online/posting in other threads while ignoring you I usually post a follow up. Like hey did you forget about our rp? If they ignore me than I usually just shrug and ignore them.

What bothers me even more though is when people ignore you directly for several weeks then decide that because their other offers have fallen through they can deign to roleplay with you again. like nah. if you can ignore me while you're online than i'll do the same.

Yes! I understand completely if they went offline because of stuff going on irl. I can be pretty patient when it comes to waiting for a reply, but sometimes I look at some of my PM threads like "Oh... It's been a month. Lovely."

On the other hand, I'd prefer to have an answer but can just move on to other RP partners who do answer me. Very few people on here have actually told me that the RP was getting dropped, and I was perfectly understanding about it.

I can honestly say I've never left an RP due to anything. Sure I've opted to not even initiate one or respond to someone trying to interact with me IC, but that's always due too horrible grammar on their end, nothing personal against the player.

All in all, i do try my best to be amenable in every situation. We all start somewhere, and need fertile soil to grow. =]

I'd elaborate further but injured my hand earlier and it's rather painful to type. -.-

I also dislike seeing really interesting group roleplays but then there's no character submission. It just tells me that the GM doesn't care about the quality of the roleplay.

Yeah that irritates the shit out of me, like especially when we make plans because 9 times put of 10 they approach me and ask me if I want to make plans with them and then I agree to this thing that they asked me to do and then they just disappear. Like wtf? Why even ask me if you had no intention of going through with it in the first place? Why even bother me with it?

In my time here, I find it the most aggravating when I put many hours into of many days of my time into the development and construction of an rp, character, plot, etc... When I return to find a story that was once so fun, polluted by contradicting plot-lines, mispells, and one liners. It honestly sucks and gets to be quite discouraging at some point. That actually happens to be a reason I quit using this site some time ago.

I could not agree more. It's honestly so frustrating.

That's why I only do 1x1s. There's too much risk the more people that are involved with a RP of it turning out like this.

I tend to run out of ideas in 1X1s, but I completely agree with your statement on the number of people. Literally every large RP seems so promising because of the vastness of content, but almost all of them I have been in fail to ever reach a suitable ending.

I run out of ideas too but that's why it's good to get partners that are creative and can come up with new twists and turns.

i'll drop when there's a lot of asian characters in a non-asian country. it really stresses me out. like, there's a reason they made it set in america; diversity. i suppose that's the problem with having a lot of friends who like the kpop genre. :[ i also hate when there are both realistic and anime fcs. i can't stand it. there's a major disconnect between real-life people and cartoons.

I know exactly what you mean. I think its because of the large number of weebs that rpnation attracts. Im starting to think i may be a closeted weeb myself

I loathe seeing realistic and anime faceclaims. It gets on my last nerve!
