From previous experience with other people, Martin expected Cole to be confused or annoyed by the fact that he mistook his name. Cole however, took it with humor. In fact, from their conversation, Martin could already tell that he was one of the most cheerful people he ever met. After correcting Martin, Cole introduced the two boys to each other. Additionally he explained that they would meet up in the main room in a few hours, before showing them how to get to their room.

"Alright then, thanks!" Martin said before jogging towards his room, only to force himself to slow down and give Leon some time to catch up. Considering that they were roommates, it would probably best if they got to know each other instead of separating right after their first meeting. "Man, this guy is cheerful, huh? Almost con... tagious?" he asked, "Anyway... Leon, huh? Sounds easy enough. Betcha I won't forget it."

Before he gave Leon any time to respond, they arrived at their room's door. "Third door from back there he said... there we go!" Martin mumbled, opened the door and started looking around. "Huh, not bad. Paintings... books... bunk bed... bunk bed?" he exclaimed, repeating the last words in his head. In a swift motion he took off his backpack and, with a spin, threw it against the wall across the room, making it land on top of the bed. "Aww, yes! Still got it in me! Top's mine! Aaaanyway... where was I?" he asked and turned around as if nothing happened, just to continue with an exited voice: "Right! You're Leon. I'm Martin. Hi. So, you wanna do anything before we meet the rest of the guys? Take a look around or something?"

'Cole's cheerfulness is contagious? Speak for yourself! Did you eat a ton of sugar before getting here or something? You can barely sit still!' he said to himself in disbelief while looking at Martin displaying such a happy-go-lucky attitude, although the obvious optimism he emitted was a breath of fresh air and made Leon feel quite at ease. Completely unlike those goons who hounded him back in his old school.

"Th- that's fine. I'd probably roll off and hit my head anyway." Leon said in a whimsical tone "Martin sounds easy to remember as well. H-h-hope we can get along nicely." he almost bit his tongue with that last part, causing him to lightly slap his cheeks in hope of calming himself down.

Leon put his bag down on the bed and quickly opened it up with a loud zip, rummaging through his belongings to see if none of his art supplies had splattered all over his clothes. 'Good, everything's intact. That fall wasn't as bad as I thought!' he thought while wiping the non existing sweat from his brow and letting out a small sigh of relief before turning back to Martin. "Taking a tour of the campus sounds like a good thing to do, I don't want to be the guy who gets lost on his way to class everyday." he said with an awkward chuckle.

Jeremiah looked up from his reclined position on the bed, noticing his new room mate standing next to him. His form was hard to make out at first as Jeremiah had his eyes closed previously, and the transition form that to staring at someone in the light was very shocking. To tell the truth, Jeremiah had been so lost in thought that he had hardly noticed the other boy come in.

Quickly swinging his legs around so as to sit upright, Jeremiah's hair flipped a little in front of his face so that he had to push it back before he could see. He did a small bow as he sat on the lower bunk in respect of his new peer, oblivious as to what the extended hand indicated.

"Hello, Christopher. It's good to meet you." Jeremiah sat back upright and smiled up at the other boy. "I will be honest, I am glad that you are at least willing to talk to me. I have already met people here in your country that would rather spit on me than look at me." He said, still smiling up at Chris. He suddenly realized something, and his face looked apologetic. "Ah! You are American, yes? I am not so good with being able to tell just yet. I mean, I grew up near Americans, but I can't tell the difference very well still."

Christopher was actually a little surprised, he'd never meant someone from another country before. It explained why Jeremiah hadn't shaken his hand and bowed instead. He frowned when Jeremiah mentioned people that were less than forthcoming with him in the country. It wasn't surprising, there were a vast majority of people who were uncomfortable with anyone different them.

He chuckled "Yeah, I'm American, and don't worry about not being able to tell, there are many different types of Americans its hard to tell even if you've lived here all your life" he grinned.

He found it strange that he would be having a roommate. He'd spent so much time by himself, he figured that it would take some getting used to. He wondered how hard it would be to sneak out and explore when it was time for everyone to sleep. He supposed that it was part of the challenge.

"Ah, that's right..." Martin thought after noticing that Leon checked his backpack's content. He realized that throwing his own backpack probably wasn't the smartest thing he ever did. It was one of many habits he developed from having to fight for things like the best bed during vacations with friends and classmates.

He took off his shoes and, despite the bed's height, tried to jump onto it. For a normal human it would be very difficult. Martin however, put years of training into using his powers for simple things like running, falling or jumping until it became second nature to him. As a result he overshot the bed and, with a *thud*, banged his head against the ceiling before barely managing to land onto the bed. "Way to make a first impression, idiot... I hope he didn't see that." he thought while rubbing his head. Martin was angry about the resulting headache but even more about the fact that he still couldn't control his powers reliably.

With a grunt, he took his notebook out of his backpack and looked for any damage. His bad mood vanished as quickly as it appeared. "Not. A. Scratch. And that's why you always keep your notebook between the jeans and T-shirts." he explained with a smile and in a tone as if he just shared invaluable life advice. "Anyway, not getting lost sounds like a great idea. Let's try that. I'm good to go, by the way. You too? he asked Leon. At this point, Martin could hardly wait to get outside. He was still a bit tired from the jet lag but after hours of sitting and waiting he simply ignored it.

Leon looked up after he heard the loud thud, perplexed by what had happened, but was quickly distracted by the sudden comment that Martin had made "That does seem to be the case, my things are ok as well." Leon said with a slight smile on his face as he arranged the things inside his bag carefully on top of his bed.

Nothing too fancy, just a bunch of clothes that any middle schooler would have: novelty tees, a few pairs of jeans, his pajamas and one or two jackets in case of a sudden chill. The important things -his art supplies- were in a smaller bag he had already dug out from his luggage; Leon opened it to extract a pencil from it's interior and closed it once more, putting the bag over the stack of shirts and the pencil behind his ear, giving him a look he was rather fond of.

He picked up his sketchpad and tucked it under his right arm "Well then, let's begin our campus exploration." Leon said happily as he headed towards the dorm room's exit 'I hope there's someplace quiet where I can draw' he thought, excited to see what manner of landscapes this school had to offer. 'I wonder what are classrooms are like...? The culinary classrooms must be pretty well equipped if they teach all types of ethnic cuisine. Oooh and what about the places where they train for combat situations? Those have GOT to be extraordinary!' he told himself as he suppressed the urge to jump in excitement.

Jeremiah looked frightened, the news that nobody knew who was who being a shock to him.

"You mean that I will NEVER know if somebody is American or not?" Jeremiah slumped over, his face showing his struggle to comprehend the news. "I'll... Never..."

A gust of wind blew in lightly from the window, causing Jeremiah's hair to blow into his face. The pale boy quickly raised his head and stared out the window, smelling the alluring smell of the water.

"Ah!" He exclaimed, a look of delight and gentle surprise replacing his shock. "The water!"

Jeremiah looked over at Christopher, a smile creeping onto this face.

"It has been far too long since I have last seen the water. Not since I arrived in New York. At least, not water like this. All of your other waters were murky and not pleasant at all. This? I would not be surprised if I found a kappa lying in the bottom of the lake!"Jeremiah looked back out the window, enjoying the smell and the view. Slowly he turned back to the other boy, one eyebrow raised.

"What do you say?" He asked gently, gesturing out the window with his hand. "Do you want to go see the waters?"

Martin let out a relieved sigh after noticing that Leon didn't realize what happened. The last thing he needed at the first day here was a reputation as someone who likes to headbutt ceilings. He jumped from the bed, careful not to repeat his last mistake, and put his shoes back on. Martin was a bit surprised at Leon's excitement considering his nervous behavior just a minute ago. "Seems he likes going outside. Well, that's a good start!" he thought while walking out of the room.

As they walked down the hallway, Martin started talking "So, what do you-" only to get stuck mid-sentence when he noticed that Leon carried something that looked like a large notepad. "What do you need that for? I thought school won't start today." he asked in a confused tone.

Christopher laughed "It isn't too bad not knowing what nationality someone is" he said "It is easier to forgive cultural differences that way" he was also taken by the sudden smell of the water as it entered their room. It was surprisingly fresh "I agree, pollution has done a number of a lot of ecosystems, not just in this country either" he looked out of the window with a small smile.

"A place like this is almost like a mini paradise" he said softly before nodding at Jeremiah's question "I would love to head down to the water" he grinned "How about we take a shortcut?" he began to stare at the water and lifted his hands to rest in front of him.

He began to concentrate, imagining bringing the shore of the lake to him. Ever so slowly, the air in front of him began to shimmer, then twist. Finally, the center of this twisting separated forming a neat oval shaped hole, slightly smaller than Chris was tall. Through the hole the shore of the lake could be seen and the smell of the water was even greater now.

Chris was proud of himself. When he'd first started creating these gateways, he'd had to strain for nearly ten minutes to even open up a softball sized hole, the first time he'd done it being the only exception. He looked sideways at Jeremiah, keeping the portal in his peripheral vision as to not lose his focus "You should go through first, it is easier to keep it open that way" he grinned "Don't worry, it is just like stepping through a door or an open window"

He'd never really gotten to show off his ability to other people, mostly do to the fact that it had always been his little secret. But this was a new place and unless things changed, Jeremiah was going to be his roommate for the rest of his time at this school. Christopher thought it was only right to give the younger boy his trust.

Jeremiah looked at the newly made portal in surprise, watching its edges shift for a moment, then stopping and grinning back up at Chris.

"Ah! I intended to walk, but this is indeed much faster!"

Jeremiah quickly got to his feet, picking up his pack and removing the bamboo fishing rod he had strapped to the side of the cloth carrier. He then reached into the pack, removing it with a small thermos in it as well as a large heavy canvas folded over into a small square - a thing that would have sufficed as a blanket if it weren't so rough. Slipping his coat on, he nodded at the other boy and stepped through the portal into the cool breeze coming off the lake.

Jeremiah made his way over to a small dock, a simple wooden structure that pushed out into the water with a single four man rowboat tied down at the end. He stopped at the edge by the water, making sure to pick up a large smooth rock. Standing back upright, he walked on down to the end of the dock, finding a good spot in the sunlight and began to put down his stuff. He bent down, taking some bait from the thermos and hooking it on his fishing line.

Jeremiah stood upright, his eyes closed as he felt the direction of the wind. He waited a moment, sensing a change in its patterns. He pulled his arm back, locking it into position while the wind shifted behind him. Once it was in a good spot, Jeremiah flung his line out into the water, the hook and bait sinking into the water. Satisfied with the cast, Jeremiah sat down, pulling the rock over and putting it right in front of his legs so that he could rest the rod between his legs and the rock.

Leaning back and unfolding the the canvas, Jeremiah reclined backwards resting on both hands, his face turned up to the sky as he enjoyed the warmth of the sun.

"It has been far too long. New York is no place for me. Not without a good clean lake."

Stepping through the portal, Christopher relaxed. As he did, the portal slowly closed again. He chuckled as he stretched "One day I hope to be able to open them instantly at my whim" he said following Jeremiah. He grinned "I can open smaller ones pretty easily, but the bigger ones take some focus"

He stepped up to where everything was being set up and looked out over the lake "I want to be able to travel anywhere in the world, and possibly even further" he watched as Jeremiah tested the wind before casting his line out "Nice casting" he said. When Jeremiah sat down, so did he, continuing to look out over the lake "I couldn't live in a city like that, too many people and not enough nice places to hide out in if I were to go exploring"

"Besides, I heard that there is a lot of crime in big cities, I'd hate to be caught up in the middle of that" he laughed "And I know I'd end up in the middle of it at some point, I have a bad habit of ending up in strange places" he shook his head.

He never really got in trouble, but he was always able to get into places he wasn't supposed to be in. If he'd ever been caught, he surely would have received a scolding. Luckily, he'd always managed to either disappear or hide to keep himself from getting in trouble. He'd never stolen anything from anywhere so assumed that as long as he didn't do that or get caught, it was fine.

"O-oh, this?" he said as he moved the arm that held his sketchpad slightly "It's not for school. I just like to carry it around in case of... Well... Sudden inspiration?" Leon gave an awkward chuckle and a nervous smile as he scratched the back of his head "It's just a sketchpad filled with doodles I've done about various things, n-n-nothing too interesting."

Leon moved it slightly out of Martin's sight moved started for the dorm's exit "I want to bring it along, just in case something gives me that 'Wow!' feeling... Get what I mean?" he said happily as he waved his hand in the air. Those moments weren't too frequent, but when they came, Leon made sure to capitalize on them, drawing his heart out until he felt satisfied with the result. "Though I won't stop dead in my tracks and start drawing all of a sudden. I just want to make notes... you know, so I can go back later?"

----- Side Note (non-main character related)

Cole sat in the main center room, surrounded by treats, snacks and video game consoles. He played with the ping-pong paddle in his hand, twirling it about as he felt each of his new wards leave the building to go explore. Cole laughed lightly and shook his head.

"Aw man! And literally nobody thought to check out the main room! I had so much cool stuff waiting for them, too!"

Cole looked around him at all the food, energy drinks and other little toys, a grin growing bigger and bigger on his face.

"Not that I can complain too much. After all, that's more for me, right?"

Cole immediately lunged, reaching for an unopened can of Monster, already tasting it in his-

"Didn't you have a final meeting planned for those boys, Cole?" Jen's voice said, projecting into his mind.

"So what if I did? I can still remind them later. Geesh. I don't have to keep them in line all the time. They ARE boys. Let them be boys, I say." Cole huffed mentally as he opened the oversize can of caffeine and sugar. "Besides, what are you doing keeping track of MY boys, Jen? Don't you have your own girls to look after?"

"Well... Yes and no. Only one of them showed up, and she really didn't want to deal with me much. She just walked on past. I'm working on talking to her, but I have to wait for my other girls to arrive. So I figured I would help you keep an eye on the boys that you had undoubtedly let loose on the world."

Cole shrugged and guzzled down some more energy drink, wiping off the bits that dribbled down his chin with his sleeve.

"Whatever. I'm cool with that. Oh, and do you want to go see a movie sometime? There's that superhero one coming out in a couple weeks."

"Ugh. I'm sorry, Cole, but superhero movies kinda got ruined for me after I learned I WAS one. Maybe go out to eat?"

"Pff. Boring. Paint balling?"

"I don't have anything appropriate to wear for it..."

"Cliff jumping?"

"Heights, Cole."

"Oh shoot. You're right. Ummm..."

"I'll talk to you about it later, Cole. I have to go now. Sti wants to talk to me about a student she thinks I might work well with that will be coming later in the year, and I need to pay full attention to her."

Cole sighed, but understood. "Alright. Go ahead and talk to the big cheese. I suppose we've all got work we need to pay attention to." He projected, then ended the communication.

Cole sat there, staring at his drink for a little while. He nodded solemnly, then snorted in laughter, taking another swig of the stuff.

"Work. Yeah right."

"So... you makes notes of Wow-feelings and draw them later?" Martin said in a slightly confused tone. He scratched his cheek and thought about what said feeling could be for the boy next to him. Martin himself could only associate it with two things: skyscrapers and girls. The former probably wouldn't appeal to Leon that much, therefore Martin thought he had figured it out.

"Aaah, I get it." he said in a more enthusiastic and humorous tone, "Like, you see a cute girl, write down where she lives and later, when she doesn't notice, draw her? Huh, didn't think you were a stalker. You definitely don't look like one. Wait, how would I know?"

As he finished his sentence, they exited the building and Martin took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air mixed with the scent of the nearby sea. He realized that his thought process probably was a bit impaired by his tiredness. Martin wondered if he appeared to be a rather calm person, considering that he doesn't nearly feel as energetic as usual.

Now that his thoughts were a bit clearer, he stopped and laughed before continuing to talk: "Nah, just kidding! Anyway... where's the school again?"

The question popped into his head as soon as he remembered that he didn't take the main road but instead found the rock by sheer luck.

"That's a bit extreme... I was talking about landscapes and buildings or whatever... But I'm not against the idea of asking a girl to model for me." Leon said with an awkward chuckle, hoping he didn't come off as creepy. He cleared his throat and continued to speak "Now that you mention it... I don't remember a map or anything on the way here, maybe we could ask Cole where everything is." he mentioned as he brought his hand to his chin and pondered 'Or maybe I was just too busy smashing my face against boulders to notice...' he thought, as his forehead sent him a slight throb as a reminder of the earlier incident.

"We could just walk around. I'm not against that option, but it's your call." Leon shrugged, as that was his original idea anyway, some company wouldn't bother him in the least. He took in a breath of the clean, chilly air and let it out slowly, trying to get himself ready for the long walk that awaited him.

'Well, I think this is a good start.' he thought as a slight smirk formed on his lips. 'Let's hope the sights are even better!'

Jeremiah opened his eyes and looked back at Chris, still reclining but now with a slight grin on his face.

"You know, my Reido back in Japan used to tell me that strange places are where bad men live, but the strangest places are where gods live. Of course, the word she used to describe them was Chikara, but what she meant is best translated as gods." Jeremiah smiled at the thought, then looked ahead again, watching the lake splash about in front of him, the sun glinting off of the peaks of the waves. "So perhaps being in strange places isn't such a bad thing. Besides, I lived in strange places, and I am not a bad person. Or at least, I don't think I am."

Jeremiah sat there, enjoying the feel of the wind on his face, and watching the waters before him. After a time, he turned to Chris, a look of confusion once more set upon his face, although this one lighter than before.

"How good are you at cooking fish?"

"The strangest places are where the gods live" Chris repeated softly before grinning "This school is a pretty strange place as well" he wondered what kind of people would come out of this Academy. Decent people, cruel people, there was no way to tell, every human was different, though many tried to conform to social constructs.

He paused and looked at Jeremiah "Cooking fish?" he asked "Well...my parents fought a lot so they usually forgot about dinner once in a while, and as their son, I had to learn how to cook a lot of things" he scratched his chin "I don't know much about cleaning a fish, but I can probably make it taste good"

His cooking skill was probably mediocre at best, the type of skill most people picked up if their parents were absent or busy enough, but it was certainly enough for catching anything Jeremiah would catch.

He chuckled "Of course, I also managed to burn macaroni and cheese one time, completely ruined a pot" he shook his head "Though I think that was more neglect than skill"

"Landscapes and buldings. Now that sounds original." he said sarcastically in a low voice. When he got asked where they should go, Martin looked into the sky and let out a pensive "Hmmm...".

After a few seconds he returned his gaze back to Leon and explained "I don't want to go back inside. We'll have to do that anyway when we have this... meeting or whatever you wanna call it with this Coal guy. Let's see... I usually just climb something tall and look for something interesting."

After a few seconds of looking around it was obvious that this wouldn't work. At least at the main road, most buildings were rather similar and therefore wouldn't provide a good outlook. "Yeah, you know what?" he said determined, now that he had a plan, "Let's look for a tower or some other tall building. I want to see what this place looks like from above. Who knows? Maybe you'll get your wow feeling there."

He basically ignored the fact that he had no idea how Leon was supposed to get on top of a building, should they actually find one that's tall enough, but it will at least gave them something to do.

Martin pondered where said building could be and decided that it would probably be somewhere inland. Thus, he started walking.

Jeremiah nodded, pleased with Chris's answer.

"I can catch and clean the fish if you are fine with coo- Oh!"

Jeremiah's face lit up as he watched the tip of his pole dip suddenly. Quickly, Jeremiah clasped the rod both hands, standing so as to get better leverage as he tried to pull the fish that had been hooked in. He grinned, his teeth showing as he hauled back to catch the thing. A sudden jerk forward, and Jeremiah looked surprised as he got new footing so that he could keep himself on land.

There was some time of struggle, about four minutes of it, but Jeremiah eventually prevailed. With a sudden tug, Jeremiah flipped the fish right out of the water and on to the docks. The fish, a large thing that looked like it might have been two and a quarter feet long and colored in a myriad of beautiful scales, flopped about on the dock, its head and tail slapping the wooden boards with massive force.

Jeremiah whooped, dropping his rod and grabbing the rock. Quickly he stabilized the fish and pulled the rock up, bringing it down and swiftly ending the fish. He did not care so much for the killing, but it was part of the fishing, so he did it anyway. Picking up the fish, Jeremiah walked over to the cloth he had previously spread out on the dock, placing the dead animal in the middle of it. He picked up the cloth by the corners, tying two together and hanging it from one of the supports on the side of the dock.

Jeremiah went back to the edge, taking the rock and cleaning it off in the water before placing it back down to rest his rod against as he set back up his fishing spot. He looked back up at Chris.

"That was a good fish. It will give good food and lots of meat. I've cooked those kinds of fish before." He looked back to the water, pleased with even just the one catch. Looking back up at Chris, he spoke again. "Do you think if I teach you how to gut and clean a fish you could teach me how you cook it? I know how we cooked them back home, but I am curious about how you Americans cook them."

Chris was surprised at the fight a fish could put up. Jeremiah wasn't a powerhouse or anything but it was still just a fish. It was actually startling to watch Jeremiah kill the fish. He himself had never killed an animal, never really thought about it. It was certainly an interesting sight to see.

"It was certainly a large fish, we could make a pretty good meal out of it" he could fry it or bake it. He wondered what seasonings he could get from the school. Their dorm probably had a kitchen they could use, though he'd probably have to talk to Cole about getting permission.

He chuckled "I don't really need to know how to clean it, I've always been a little squeamish around blood" he rubbed the back of his head "However, I am happy to teach you how I cook, though I generally just either fry or bake whatever I'm cooking"

Jeremiah nodded, understanding what the other boy meant. While he personally didn't experience those responses to blood, he had known some men that did. One of the other homeless men back in Japan had been squeamish at the sight of Jeremiah gutting fish for dinner as well. However, when Chris commented that he usually bakes or fries his food, Jeremiah couldn't help but laugh.

"You would bake fish? I would PAY to see that! Hahahahah!"

Jeremiah struggled to stay upright as he laughed, then humor in the situation overcoming him. After some time he finally got control of himself, sitting upright with a slight slouch as he snickered at it still, wiping a small tear from laughing too hard off of his cheek.

"You are funny. I like that." Jeremiah looked back up at Chris, a big grin painted on his face. "It will be good to learn your ways of 'baking' fish, however. I suspect it will involve large amounts of dough wrapped around a well cooked fish."

Jeremiah shook his head at the thought, then lay back on the docks and enjoyed the cool air. There was a long moment of silence before he spoke again.

"Today is a good day."

--------------------------------------------------------------------

(Do we want to do a time skip for these two and get down to them goofing off in the housing after catching a couple more fish? To be honest, the current scene doesn't hold much for these two. The other guys can still keep on going and will eventually catch up with our two, but until then I suppose)

Chris chuckled "You can cook almost anything in anyway, you can bake it, fry it, smoke it, and I'm sure you know about eating some foods raw" he grinned "You're a pretty good guy yourself"

He clapped his hands "This is only our first day at this school, there are bound to be plenty of good days, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of bad ones too, but that is the fun of going to school, getting a full life's experience along with our peers"

He sat down "This is going to be amazing" he said grinning "I've never been to a school as fancy as this, I mean, our first day here, someone speaks to us directly in our minds, how cool is that? I freaked out a little though, it isn't the most comfortable idea knowing someone can get inside your head and mess with your emotions if they felt like it" he made a face.

((Oh good, I thought it was just me. Yeah, we should do a time skip, I'm kind of stumped for what we should do anyway.))

- A few non-inclusive minutes later-

Jeremiah and Chris stepped through the portal that Chris made for them again into the kitchen, a net made from the cloth full of fish between them, talking as they went.

"-ich is why I say that our powers must be a gift from the Kami."

Jeremiah put the net into the sink, folding the corners up so that the fish didn't spill out and ran upstairs. When he came back down he had a large woven basket that was attached to the outside of his sack when he came here in his hands. He grinned at the other boy, laying a couple towels in the bottom setting down a layer of ice on top of them.

Jeremiah reached into the sink, pulling out fish and laying them side by side on the ice, putting on another layer of ice when they filled the bottom and repeating until all the fish were in the basket. Standing, Jeremiah hefted the now very heavy basket and laid it into the fridge.

"We can cook a lot of it and I'll see about smoking some of the fish, but if we can't do that then we can cook the rest and give it to other cabins." He told Chris.
