The Wild Side

"So, how did you find this information, then?"

"Unless," she gasps, "he is the one controlling them. Only joking, I don't think that's true." She gives a disarming smile.

“Ive been researching animals. U read up on their history and found out someone discovered how to control them. When this happened i assumed that is why”

"To confirm," says Hakrum, "you have actual evidence that someone is controlling them? You're not just guessing that?"

"Hakrum!" says Cerralei, "Does this look like the kind of guy who thinks things without evidence. Ignoring the fact that I am that kind of guy, or uh, gal."

"It's important to make these things explicit," says Hakrum.

“I have strpng suspicion. It is the only spell currently known powerful enough to control the animals and use their magic”

"Okay," says Hakrum. "I think there's some confusion here. What I'm trying to establish is whether the animals are in fact being controlled by a single individual in the first place, and trying to rule out them undergoing some kind of mass hysteria or whatever for some unknowable reason. Though... No, I think this is a distraction, I agree that what you said is the most likely explanation either way. Sorry for wasting time, then."

"Anyway, given that we're on an isolated island with no animals," says Hakrum, "there's not any way that's obvious to me that we could get more information on who's controlling them. That being said, does anyone else have any ideas?"

Cerralei puts on an exaggerated "thinking" expression.

"We could... teleport back to somewhere else," says Cerralei, "for just a single second to see if it's still safe to investigate, then teleport back here?"

"Hmm, maybe," says Hakrum. "That sounds risky, though."

"Oh!" says Cerralei, "Welp, then I vote that!"

"Yeah, you would," mutters Hakrum.

"The one among us who's the most powerful should do it," says Hakrum. When Cerralei appears excited and raises her hand, he says, "No, not you," in a slightly exasperated tone. He then looks at Ronnie. "How would you estimate the extent of your abilities, currently?"

"Well, that's promising," says Hakrum. "Okay, then. What do you know for a fact you can do?"

Loki, who was asleep in the tavern, had just fallen on the floor, hit a portkey, and teleported to the island with everyone else, falling flat on his face, while doing so. "ow." he looks up and sees everyone. "hello."

Hakrum looks at the new arrival. "Hello. Who are you?"

Cerralei perks up. "Oh! It's that guy who was rocking back and forth or somethin' like that in the tavern! Wait, maybe I shouldn't have said it like that."

Loki dusts himself off as he gets up and says, "Greetings. my name is Loki, and I have no idea how i got here... i think i touched a boot?" he looks confused. "i dont know. magic is weird. im new to it."

“I think that was a portkey. You got lucky those teleport people at specific times it getting you out of there is astronomically unlikely.”

"Hmm, well, weirder things have happened," says Hakrum. "It looks like animals are attacking people in random places, and we think someone's controlling them. We're thinking of teleporting someone back to a random location to see if it's safe to investigate. To be clear, we'd be sending them back for just a few seconds to see if there's any immediate danger, and then they come straight back, and we prepare to do it again."

Hakrum looks slightly frustrated. "Yeah, I said we should do it to the most powerful person here. You said you were new to magic... Loki, was it?"
