The Way Back Home

Lexi Darbis

Lexi rolled her eyes when Felicity left. "Well that sucked. Next time you go out and you invite her, leave me out of it," she said with a scowl. She walked out of the bar with them and approached her bike. "Have fun carrying that drunkard home," she said with a laugh. "I never knew chief was such a light weight. Have fun," she said with a wave. She hopped on her bike and drove away to her house, still brooding over her argument with Felicity.

Alex gave Lexi a confused look about her comment. What had happened with Felicity? Before he had a chance to ask her more, she was waving goodbye and driving away on her bike. He grumbled angrily and started walking Jaison in the direction of his house. "You have the key in your pocket," he said with a laugh. "Remember? Damn, Lexi was right, you really are a lightweight." He didn't mind his cuddling though, and he even wrapped an arm around his waist, pulling him closer. "I hope you're not too hungover tomorrow," he said teasingly.

Mostly oblivious to what was occurring, he waved Lexi off with a smile before looking to Alex. "I'm not a light weight" he grinned, his index finger moving to Alex's lips, silencing him. "Shh, no, remember Lexi can't know.. no, or Gran, no, no" he said shaking his head dramatically as they walked. As Alex's hand moved to his waist, Jaison cuddled in closer before taking Alex's hand and pulling him to a nearby wall. Jaison pushed lightly against Alex's chest, making him back to the wall., biting down on his lip. Jaison moved closer, "wanna do something bad?" he smirked, before pressing his lips to Alex's.

Alex's eyes widened in surprise as Jaison pushed him against the wall. Before he had any time to respond, Jaison's lips were on his. For a moment, Alex forgot that he was supposed to be helping Jaison home. He lost himself in the kiss, kissing Jaison back eagerly. After a few seconds, he broke the kiss and stepped out of Jaison's grasp. "You're drunk," he said matter-of-factly. "We need to get you home before you do something stupid and hurt yourself," he said. "Cmon," he tugged on Jaison's shirt sleeve, trying to pull him forward. As much as he wanted to continue, he couldn't when Jaison was so out of his mind. Anything they did, Alex wanted to make sure Jaison wouldn't regret it later. He'd put Jaison to bed and show up tomorrow with aspirin for the hangover he was sure Jaison would have.

Enjoying the kiss, he was disappointed when it ended. "Oh, spoil sport" he teased following after Alex, taking his hand he walked alongside the pastel haired man rolling his eyes playfully. "Yes, sir, whatever you say sir" he chuckled, spotting the house up ahead. "Homeeee!" he called in a sing song manner, Jaison rooted in his pocket for the key and whipped it out. "They key to Neverland!" he said trying to get it into the key hole, it took an attempt or two, but he finally got it. Unlocking and then opening the door, he turned to Alex and gestured with his index finger to his lips to be quiet. "Shhh" he whispered, "Gran's sleeping and Manda" he nodded enthusiastically. Jaison lead the way, forgetting the key in the door and leaving it open, he sat down on the stairs, trying to get his shoes off.

Alex followed Jaison inside, grabbing the key from the lock and closing the door quietly. He pocketed the key, making a mental note to leave it in Jaison's room before he left. He turned around and had to stifle a laugh at the sight of Jaison struggling to untie his shoes. He walked over and knelt down in front of Jaison. He undid the laces and took his shoes, putting them in the closet by the front door, smiling as he did so. He couldn't help but find Jaison completely adorable like this. "Cmon," Alex said, tugging Jaison up the stairs. "Be careful on the step," Alex whispered, stepping over the third step from the top to avoid causing a loud squeaking sound that always happened when someone stepped on it.

Letting Alex help him with his shoes, he stood and followed the instructions, keeping quiet. Jaison stepped over the squeaky third step from the top, looking back at it, he whispered to Alex. "That step squeaks" he said, nodding, as though he was agreeing with himself. Letting Alex lead him to his bedroom, Jaison opened the door himself and wandered in, closing it once Alex was inside. Stumbling through the darkness to the side table, he flicked on the light, knocking a couple of books onto the floor. "Shh" he said looking back at Alex, Jaison giggled and pulled off his jumper, getting stuck part way. "Stuck" he whispered, trying to tug the jumper over his head.

Alex bent down to pick up the books, carefully arranging them back onto Jaison's desk. When he turned back around, he laughed at the sight he was greeted with. Jaison, looking like a child, with his shirt stuck on his body. "Stop moving," Alex commanded, walking over to Jaison, a smile still plastered on his face. "Let me help," he said. He got Jaison unstuck and managed to pull the jumper off him. "There. Better?" He asked. He put the shirt in the hamper in the room and then tried directing Jaison towards the bed. "Cmon Jaison, you've got to sleep this off." He stopped for a brief moment and took Jaison's key out of his pocket and put it on the table so he wouldn't forget later.

Amanda Daniels

Amanda sat up in bed when she heard the sound of books being knocked over. After a few minutes of intense listening, she hears two voices and quickly realized who they were. "Oh great," she mumbled. She laid back down and tried to go back to sleep, hoping she would actually be able to.

Thankful for the help in escaping the confines of his jumper, he smiled and did as he was told moving to the bed. "Okay, okay" he whispered undoing his trousers and awkwardly stumbling out of them, Jaison turned and kissed Alex, a peck, then another before throwing back the sheets of his bed. Sitting down, he grabbed Alex's hand and tugged him closer. "Stay here" he said patting the empty space on the bed beside him, "don't tell Gran.. a secret" he tried holding back his laughter a little bit escaping. Resting his head on Alex's hand, still in his own he closed his eyes, waiting a reply.

Alex sighed. He sat on the bed beside Jaison. With his free hand, he started playing with Jaison's hair, trying to lull him to sleep. "I'll stay, if you want me to. Hopefully Gran doesn't kill me when she finds me here in the morning," Alex said with a laugh. He sat next to Jaison quietly, watching his chest move up and down. He leaned his head back against the wall, letting his eyes slide shut. He enjoyed the peacefulness of the scene. He loved being around Jaison, sitting next to him made him calm. He couldn't remember the last time he felt this relaxed. He wanted to feel that way all the time and he hoped he would be able to.

Without a single word, he smiled and shuffled closer to Alex pecking him on the cheek. "Thank you.. for coming back to me" Jaison whispered resting his head against Alex's leg and the pillow. Even in his slightly drunken state, Jaison was glad of Alex's return.. everything about him made everything around him better. A day they had been back together and already, Jaison had felt a weight lift off his shoulders, he felt calm.. happier. These were the feelings he wanted to stay, and the feeling of safety when around Alex. He hoped the feelings would never go away, but who knew what another day would bring.

Alex awoke to bright light pouring into the room. He squinted his eyes and opened them, trying to remember where he was. But one look down at his lap reminded him that he was at Jaison's house. He smiled at Jaison's sleeping figure, the events of the previous day returning to him. He tried to sit up but winced in pain. He had fallen asleep in a weird position that had jacked up his neck. He sat up, trying not to jostle Jaison too much. He rubbed his neck, hoping the pain would leave soon. While he tried rubbing the crick out of his neck, he looked down at Jaison. He smiled again and started playing with Jaison's hair. He leaned back against the wall, giving up on trying to get rid of the pain in his neck for now, and continued absentmindedly playing with Jaison's hair. He chuckled, thinking of the massive hangover Jaison was going to have when he woke up.

The brightness of the room was unexpected, and Jaison winced slightly against it, "damn" he whispered. His mind was brought away from the soft thumping in his head to something gentle caressing it, a hand played through his hair and Jaison smiled as he remembered who it was. Most of the night was a blur, he knew he shouldn't have had a second drink.. especially not one Felicity had bought. Jaison turned over onto his back, blinking a few times as Alex came into view. "Morning" he croaked, with a soft laugh. Jaison rubbed his eyes and slowly sat up, "my head is killing" he continued with a small stretch, he glanced back at Alex. "You alright?" he asked, Jaison was glad his mouth didn't taste horrible.. he hoped that was a sign his breath didn't smell either.

Alex smiled as Jaison finally woke up. "Morning," he said cheerily. "I'm fine. Neck just hurts a little," he said, wincing as he tried moving his neck to look down at Jaison. "What about you? Feeling the hangover yet?" He asked with a teasing grin. He continued running his hands through Jaison's hair. He never realized just how much he loved playing with it. He could hear noise coming from downstairs and he assumed it was Gran and Amanda. He hoped things wouldn't be too awkward when they finally went downstairs.

Amanda Daniels

Amanda stepped out of the bathroom, fresh from the shower. She walked silently towards her room to get dressed, toweling her hair off as she walked.

"I'm alright, my head is killing.. I'm just glad I'm not feeling sick" he chuckled, stretching now he was sat up. Jaison looked towards the door hearing sound outside and downstairs, his eyes moved back to Alex. "I'll have a quick shower and get dressed, then we can head downstairs.. unless you want to go home?" he asked, understanding if Alex wanted to.. it mustn't be fun being in last nights clothes. "I'm sure you want to get changed.. but you can borrow something of mine, if you like" he suggested standing up. Jaison grabbed his dressing gown and put it on, realizing he was stood in nothing but his boxers. He yawned and went into his bathroom, turning on the shower before putting toothpaste on his brush and cleaning his teeth. Jaison lingered in the doorway and looked to Alex, "if you want to borrow something, it's the usual draws and cupboard.. nothing's moved" he said.

Alex Thompson

"Nah, I'll just borrow something of yours. I don't feel like doing the walk of shame this morning," he said, flashing Jaison a boyish grin. He stood up and rubbed his neck. It still ached a bit from his wonky sleeping position. He silently hoped it would go away soon. Not even bothering to wait for Jaison to leave the room, he removed his shirt and started rifling through Jaison's closet, trying to find something to wear. He smiled to himself. Nothing really had moved. He still kept his sweatshirts in the same place, his jeans in the same place, his t-shirts. The clothes had changed but they were still in the same places. It was comforting to know that some things stay the same.

He smiled back at Alex, before going back into the bathroom and washing his mouth clean of toothpaste. Showering quickly, he washed off and once finished wrapped himself in a towel. Jaison moved back into the room just as Alex removed his shirt, his eyes wandered over Alex's tattoos, seeing what each one was. "Have all your tattoos got meanings?" he asked, watching Alex rummage for clothes. He wondered what clothes Alex would pick, his mind went through clothes he still had. The t-shirt they'd bought at the concert of their favourite band, the jumper that Alex had bought him for his eighteenth birthday. Jaison continued into the room and picked out his own clothes, still standing in his towel. He chose a pair of jeans, light and denim and a woolly jumper, red.

He looked back at Jaison as he moved back into the room and nodded at his question. "Of course. It'd be silly to get one that didn't mean anything. They last forever after all." He ceased his search for clothing to turn around and look at Jaison. He pointed to one on his wrist that was a music note connected to a heart beat. "This one is pretty obvious," He said, holding it up so Jaison could see. "Music is my life." He put his wrist down and pointed to a tattoo on his other wrist. It was a logo of their favorite band. "Our favorite band," he said, putting his wrist down and continuing to explain the different tattoos he had. The final one was on his back and it was a large tree. "I'm surprised you don't recognize this one," Alex said chuckling. It had been the first one he had gotten so it was a little faded, but he didn't mind. He thought it looked kind of cool that way.

Jaison Daniels

Listening to Alex, he nodded at each tattoo the young man pointed out. This, and that, that and this. Their favorite band, Alex's love of music.. and then the tree. One of the few tattoos Alex didn't have to explain, Jaison knew that one. "Your first tattoo" he started, opening a draw to get a pair of boxers and socks. Jaison smiled at the memory, "it's the tree where we first met, right? Down at the park" he chuckled thinking about it. Jaison sat on the edge of his bed, slipping on a pair of boxers out of view of Alex. "We were so young then" he whispered. Jaison quickly changed into the clothes and threw his towel into the bathroom, his mind raced with the memory, moving from then onward.. so much history between them. His eyes moved to the window, "we've been through a lot together haven't we.. together and apart, both of us" he considered out loud, lost in thought. Jaison's eyes moved to the windowsill, moving over the pictures of his family and ones of Alex. They stopped on one of him, Gran and Grandpa.

Alex nodded, agreeing with Jaison's words. They had been young then. Young and care free. A lot has changed between them since then. Alex hoped it would be a change for the better but he didn't know for sure. The future was always so uncertain to him, and it scared him. He figured that was part of the reason he left. He got scared of what could happen, so he pushed his best friend away. "I'm sorry," he said, following Jaison's eyes to the picture of his gran and grandpa. "For not being here when everything happened. You needed support and I didn't give that to you." Even though Jaison seemed to have forgiven him somewhat, Alex didn't think he could ever stop apologizing for it. He finally decided to stop rifling for clothes and pulled on one of Jaison's big hoodies, a red one, and a pair of jeans. Even though Jaison wasn't that much taller than Alex, his hoodies and jackets were always slightly too big on Alex. Alex didn't mind, he just thought it made the clothes more comfortable. He sat on the bed next to Jaison when he finished, staring at all the pictures on the wall. He thought about how he needed to decorate his room. He had taken all his posters and picture with him when he left. He figured he should probably put them back up.

Jaison Daniels

He placed a hand on Alex's and gave a gentle smile, "let's.. leave it in the past" he suggested. Jaison looked back to the picture, "we're never going to be able to change it.. it happened. But like I said we're different people now" he paused for a moment to think. It had been a long time, and as nice as the previous day had been.. everything moved quickly, maybe too quickly. "I think we go out today, act like total strangers. Get to know each other again" Jaison suggested looking at Alex, "yesterday was amazing.. but I think we've leaped into everything. I want this to work and I think if we slow down it will" he said. The young brunette waited for Alex's answer, hoping he hadn't offended him. "It's not that I don't want.. this.." he gestured between them, "it's that I want to do it right".

Alex Thompson

Alex listens to Jaison's suggestion, taking in his words slowly. He nods after a few seconds, agreeing to his idea. "Sure. It might be fun, finding out things about each other all over again," He said with a smile. He stood from the bed, stretching his back and cracking his neck. "How about this; I'll walk home, change into some of my own clothes, and at 11, I come pick you up and we do the whole total strangers thing. Sound good to you?" He asked Jaison, looking down at him on the bed. In all honesty, Alex was kind of nervous for their date. He had never been good at the whole first date deal because he had never gone on many. He never had a steady relationship, just hookups here and there. He didn't want to mess things up with Jaison, so he was going to try his best not to.

Jaison Daniels

The young man listened as Alex explained an idea he had, Jaison nodded in agreement with a soft smile. "It sounds perfect" he said, "it's a date" Jaison continued before standing up and finishing off getting dressed. Jaison picked up a book off the side and glanced to Alex, "we should probably head downstairs, I'll see you out and we can meet later" he smiled lingering in the door. Deciding it would be okay, Jaison shuffled and gave Alex a kiss on the cheek before opening the door. The thought of going on a date with Alex was strange, not in a bad way, but it had been the last thing Jaison would have expected yesterday morning. He hadn't expected half of what had happened the day prior.

Alex Thompson

When Jaison kissed his cheek, Alex felt a rush of warmth and happiness flood his body. The largest, dorkiest grin grew on his face as he stood up and walked to stand beside Jaison at the door. "It's a date," he agreed. He gave Jaison a kiss on the cheek as well and then bounced out the door, clearly excited. He was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. He didn't know what the afternoon would bring and he certainly didn't see his life taking a turn in this direction. If you had told Alex two days ago that he would be going on a date with his former best friend, he would have laughed at the idea. But it had happened and he couldn't be happier.

Amanda Daniels

Amanda sat at the kitchen table, lazily munching on a bowl of cereal. Lucky charms, her favorite cereal. A lot of things had changed in their small town, but the box of lucky charms that had sat in the kitchen pantry never had. If there was one thing Amanda could absolutely count on, it was a bowl of her favorite cereal in the mornings.
