The War (DergTheDergon x Myla)

Dexter smiles as he strokes her hair as his own heart spead up as well from what she was saying. He didn't expect her to continue to stay by his side after the war, but now that she confirmed that she would, he felt more content and happier that she would. Dexter looks at her amused when Sasha mentions staying somewhere exotic, "I could do living in an exotic place, but no place that serves Mexican food. I can't handle the spiciness." He chuckles softly, but then says seriously, "Hell, I would still follow you to Mexico if that's where you wanted to go if it meant staying with you." Kissing her cheek, Dexter lifts her and sets her on the bed, "Now if you don't mind, I need to shower. I smell like sweat." Dexter grabs his towel and clothes before heading to the bathroom, "Hm, I'll be back." He enters the bathroom, but keeps the door unlock in case anything were to happen where Sasha would need to come in. Dexter took off his clothes going into the shower with his mind on Sasha.

Sasha smiles into Dexter's shoulder as he strokes her hair, giggling as he made his funny comment about Mexican food. "Ah you don't need to worry about that, spicy food isn't much my thing either. Besides, there are a bunch of places much higher on my list than Mexico... I think it's one of the hardest-hit countries by the war, anyway." Giggling again at his next comment, Sasha got off of him, gave him placeful kiss on his cheek and said, "aww, I kinda like how you smell now, but maybe that makes me wierd... I think being in the military got me used to smelling sweat." Guggling again, a bit embarrassedly this time , she laid back on the bed. As she heard the shower water running, she found herself picturing Dexter naked with a blush on her cheeks. Then she realized, around him she often forgets that she's in a war, even when they're out right in the middle of the warzone, at least fro the past few days after they confessed thier feelings for each other. Having that special someone really does make hardships, even war, more bearable. She had never loved any guy the way she does Dexter, that was for sure... the two just seemed to connect on a deep level that seemed almost surreal. Holding a hand over her heart, she watied for Dexter to get out of the shower so she could be close to him again. Once he was washed up, however, the two would be called to dinner soon and would have to explain to a deceased soldier's wife that he was dead..... she certainly wasn't looking forward to that, but someone had to bear the bad news. She'd help Dexter, and Vanessa, through this as best as she could, Sasha decided.

Dexter shuts off the water feeling more relaxed now as comes out the shower. Now that the sweat and grime was washed off, he dried off getting dressed in some plaid pajama bottoms. He dried his hair off kinda messily with the towel as he walked out of the bathroom. Dexter looked at his reflection in the mirror. Without all the dirt, Dexter actually looked to be around his own age and not as rough. His hair was now reaching his eyes seeing that he needed a hair cut, but to be honest, Dexter didn't really care. Taking out a small first aid kit and sat back on the bed next to her without a shirt, "Do me a favor, put the bandage on the area where the bullet gazed the skin. I can't reach it and I don't want it to get infected. I'll tell you what you have to do so you don't get confused unless you do know how to do it." Dexter then becomes curious about something being concerned and asks how is the leg wound doing? I know it's better, but does it still hurt?" After a few moments Dexter asks nervous and anxious, "How should I tell Vanessa about her husband?"

Sasha looked over at Dexter as he came out of the bathroom, and found herself smiling. "Damn, without all that dirt and grime you look even more handsome, somehow," she said flirty. As Dexter sat down, she found herself blushing just lightly looking over at his bare chest, then she nodded at his words. "No problem, and you don't have to instruct me. All recruits are taught to do at least this much." Sasha quickly took some bandages out of her bag, and began to gently and carefully dress his wound, watching for any signs of his discomfort and adjusting accordingly, until she was done. "How's that?" She asked, hoping she did a good job. She remembered how to do it of course, but hadn't had much practice for a while.

When he asked about his wound Sasha found herself smiling at him a bit. "I knew you'd ask that sometime soon... you're always thinking about me. It's doing a lot better, it doesn't hurt all the time but just gets sore if I walk or run on it for a while , especially running of course. It also seems to act up a bit when it's going to rain, but other than that it's just fine."

Sasha then found herself frowning a bit as Dexter made it clear he was still unsure. She took his hand gently and looked unto his eyes, staying silent for a moment thinking of what to say to him. She wasn't sure either. "Well... I think you should wait until after dinner, at least, but not too long. I can tell she knows something's on your mind. I think you should just start with saying something that will cuase you to have to explain, but isn't too telling, something like 'it's about your husband.' I'll be right by your side, holding your hand just like this. I know it's hard but, I know you can do it... and she has the right to know." She looked up into his eyes with a solemn yet determined looked, then gave him a breif kiss on the lips, pulling back. "We're both showered now, so i think it'[s time we join Vanessa for dinner."

Dexter chuckles as she covers his wound, "Someone seems to be more comfortable flirting around me and yes, all recruits are taught this, but some become nervous when seeing the wound or don't get the chance to practice it enough to remember how to do it." Once she finishes covering his wound, he looks at it in the mirror and smiles kissing her cheek, "That's really good, thank you." Sitting back down next to her, Dexter lets out a sigh of relief, "Good. I was worried from us running around so much and being so dirty, that it would reopen or get infected, but I'm glad to see that wasn't the case."

Holding on tight to her hand, Dexter looks back at her becoming worried and frightened at the same time, but nods taking her advice, "Alright, I'll do that. Thank you." Dexter kisses her back softly before getting on and putting on a dark blue shirt. Grabbing her hand, he leads her out of the room and into the kitchen saying quietly, "Here goes nothing."

The moment they walk into the kitchen, one could smell all the food Vanessa has prepared for dinner. Dexter's mouth watered seeing his favorite food on the table and goes to take a spoonful of Vanessa's lasagna. However, before he was able to put the fork in, Vanessa smacked his hand with the wooden spoon, "Um, what are you doing? You can't try it yet, I'm not done. Please be a dear and go get my children." Dexter grumbles walking away wanting to try the food and Vanessa shakes her hand in a motherly way, "I swear, sometimes I think he's a small child stuck in a grown man's body."

Sasha nods as he went over how some soldiers forget how to do it or are a bit squeamish abotu seeing wounds, blushing a bit due to the observation he had made about her behavior just prior. She certainly had become more comfortable flirting with him, if only a little. She smield brightly, kissing his cheek in return as he thanked her for dressing his wound. "No problem." She nodded at his next words, her wound was certainly at risk of becoming infected again but thankfully it didn't.

Sasha squeezed his hand back, looking up into hi eyes with love and sympathy. "You're welcome Dex... you'll do fine," she sadi, getting up with him and heading into the kitchen with him, sill holding onto his hand firmly. Once they had gotten in there, Sasha found herself taking a deep breath through her nose, savoring the wonderful smells of the food as it neared completion. Watching Dex try to take a bite, she giggled a little, the comical sight and the way he walked away grumbling going to find Vanessa's children lightening up the moment quite a bit. At Vanessa's words, she nodded with a smile on her fae. "Sometimes yes, but other times he's quit the opposite, very mature and responsible. He really is something..." Vanessa could probably deduce Sasha's feelings for Dexter just by the wistful, dreamy tone of her voice, and the look on her face if she were to see it. Siting down politely and patiently at the table,Sasha waited for Dexter to come back with the children.

Vanessa nods as she sets the plates down on the table, "He is, but sometimes, I can't help, but think that he grew up too quickly. Alec never really gave him the chance to sit down and be a kid. Alec is a great general, but at times a terrible father. His mother, Lisa, wasn't much help either. She clings to every word that comes from Alec's mouth and follows him like a lost puppy." As she sets down the silverware, she hesitates as she says the next part, "Their family are kind odd... Especially the way that Lisa is so submissive, Hannah, his little sister, was always so quiet and Dexter in his lonely ways, I used to think that Alec abused them until I realized one day that he didn't abuse them, he just has the bad habit of pushing people to do what he wants until they reach their breaking point. Don't get me wrong, Alec is a great man. He fought in many wars, saved bunch of people and even went to church on Sundays sometimes, but like I said, "He's a great leader, but a bad father." She shakes her head sighing, "Don't tell Dexter I said that, he's not one to comment much about his family."

As Vanessa finishes talking, Dexter comes into the room with the two giggling children his arms and sets them down on their seats and smiles while sitting next to Sasha, "What did I miss?"

Sasha met Vanessa's eyes with her own as she spoke, her gaze drooping sadly at a few points hearing about Dexter's family. The way that his Father and Mother raised him, according to Vanessa, seemed to explain a lot of Dexter's little quirks and the things he kept saying. Listening to all of this, Sasha realized that she had heard virtually none of Vanessa's account from Dexter, except perhaps that Alec wasn't a great Father. She didn't really expect to hear it from him anyway, and decided to, for the time being at least, leave the clearly touchy subject of his past alone out of respect and wanting not to bring up old wounds while Dexter was having to deal with the war, and certainly not before he completed the difficult but right task of telling Vanessa what had happened to her husband. Still, it was nice to hear about this, even from someone else.

Before Sasha had a chance to respond and hopefully learn a bit more about the man she cared for from this old friend of his, Dexter began to enter the room, the giggling children announcing his arrival. Sasha smiled to him and the kids gleefully gathered around him, turning to face him as he sat down. "Oh, just girl talk," Sasha said, brushing it off. She hoped he wouldn't pursue it for now, as she had a feeling he wouldn't exactly be thrilled to hear that Vanessa had told Sasha what she had about him. Taking a gander at the delicious food on her plate, Sasha's stomach growled and she blushed slightly. "May we dig in?" She asked politely while looking to Vanessa.

Dexter sits next to Sasha raising his eyebrow curiously at both of them as he caught Sasha's sad gaze earlier, "Just girl talk?" Vanessa waves her hand, "You know, old recipes, families, marriage, babies. Nothing to worry about." He just shrugs it off knowing that Vanessa would be the type to talk endlessly about all those things. Vanessa laughs softly at Sasha's stomach growling, "Of course! Go ahead, you must be starving." Dexter waits for everyone to serve themselves before he does so and Vanessa starts serving the children their food. Dexter playfully whispers to Sasha, "So what do you think of Vanessa? I hope she didn't plaster you with gossip. That lady loves to gossip sometimes."

As they talk, Mikey asks, "Mommy, where's daddy?" Vanessa kisses his head and says, "He's out working. Don't he'll be home soon." As she says, Dexter loses his appetite, "Vanessa, when you put the kids to sleep, we need to talk." Vanessa becomes concerned seeing Dexter's expression change so Quickly to a serious one and nods, "Of course."

Sasha feels quite relieved as Vanessa successfully deflects Dexter's question. He looked a bit worried as he glanced curiously at the women, but Vanesssa's save seemed to be just what was needed. Sasha smiles and giggles a little herself in embarrassment at Vanessa's answer, then begins to serve herself. While she was plating her food, Dexter whispered to her. "She seems like a wonderful woman. She didn't bother me at all." Of course, Vanessa did plaster her with gossip, but since it was about Dexter himself Sasha had no intention to let that slip right now. Sasha smiled, then continued plating her food. After the first bite, she swallowed then looked to Vanessa with a wide look in her eyes, almost like a child's look of wonder. "It's delicious, Vanessa. Thank you for the wonderful meal." With that, she dug into her food further.

As she ate, she froze for a second overhearing mother and son's heartfelt exchange of words. Suddenly, she wasn't so hungry anymore, a sad look adorning her face once again for a moment before she caught herself and straightened her expression. She looked to Dexter, knowing that he would be shaken up by Vanessa's promise to Mikey as well. As she heard him bravely ask Vanessa for a private chat after the kids were put to sleep, Sasha gently took his hand under the table, hoping to comfort him a little.

After everyone was finished eating, Sasha thanked Vanessa once again for the food then followed Dexter wherever he went afterwards. She took his hand and looked into his eyes once Vanessa and the kids were out of earshot, speaking up to him softly. "Dex... I know it's going to be difficult to tell her... I just want you to know I'll be there for you, and for Vanessa if I can do anything for her. I'm very proud of you for taking this burden upon yourself... if there's anything I can do to help you through this, all you have to do is ask." She looked into his eyes lovingly. Soon, Vanessa would be putting the kids to bed and they'd have the talk. Dexter seemed hell-bent on delivering the news himself, but she wasn't going to let him go this alone.
