The War Between Us

"In order for us to escape your gonna act your my sister. And for a plan, I don't have one I just have to wing it." I say.

To be honest I was prepared to die in order to keep her, a girl who shouldn't be going through all this alive.

I just sigh "This isn't gonna re-write my record for all I killed that I shouldn't have killed. If I just help you, it will make me feel better on what I done today..." I say my thoughts outloud.

He was nice. He knew it now. He had been talking about making up for the people he had kill through helping her survive. It was...cute. "Okay, I'll follow you. But if we are going to act like siblings we have to know eachother. What's your name?"

"Justin Sandern, that is my name." I say to the girl. I just think on how to pass the border alive. "I'm guessing your as nervous as me aren't you?" I ask her as I open the shed door.

"I'm Grace Moore. But I guess I'm Grace Sandern now. And yes. I am very nervous." They went out. It was a nice summer day and it was warm outside. They started walking. She was very nervous. She was scared. Would they really manage to trick those guards? "Okay, how did we met? Did you just find me or...? And how should we explain your wound?"

"Don't worry I have a smart symbolic plan, but once we arrive to the border do not speak at all. Also do you know how to start a fire" i say to her. As we walk my wounded hand starts to hurt and I stop for a moment clenching my injured hand.

"I do now how to start a fire. Why are you wondering?" She noticed that Justin stopped. She looked at him wondering and saw that he was looking at his hand. She instantly became worried. "Are you okay?" She went back to him and took his hand. The blood had almost gone threw her ribbon by now. She looked up in his eyes looking for an answer and saw how tall he was. Even if she were standing on her toes she wouldn't reach to his eyes.

"A Fire is the key to survival. And I'm fine." He lied with the pain in his hand. I sigh as I notice she was concerned for me. "Please don't be concerned I've had worse in my life" I say to her so I don't have to feel bad.

I just continue walking after taking a little rest. "The border is just up ahead remember don't talk." I say to her. I pull out my pocket knife and I put it in her hand if she needed to use it in an emergency.

He said that he was fine but she didn't belive him. But when he asked her to not worry, she decided it to let it slip threw. He informed her that border was closed and he gave her a pocket knife, probably so that she could use it if stuff went wrong, but she wondered what a tiny girl with a knife could do against two hundred armed men. She nodded so he know that she understood that she had to be quiet and that she knew what to do with the knife. She wondered if she would be able to kill someone if she had to.

We arrive to the gate and the boy says "Justin, how your the last to arrive this time, why is that?" He does look to friendly then he turns to the girl "Who's that?" He asks me.

"She's my mute sister" I tell him. He walk over to you and he stares at you "Your clear, you both may pass" He says. I walk through and he pushes you through the gate and it closes.

"She's my mute sister." She heard Justin as she looked down on the ground. The soldier who seemed to now Justin walked over to her and looked at her. She hold her breath and forced herself to not take up the knife from her pocket. When she accepted her he pushed her threw the gate and it closed behind them. They had made it! She smiled and looked up from the ground, but didn't dared to talk just yet, mabey they would hear her. But she looked at Justin and smiled at him.

"I'm going to the infirmary then we can find a place to sleep for the night." I say to her. I see her smiling and I also smile but soon after I clentch my fist and blood started to drip from the ribbon.

She nodded at his idea, staring at the blood dripping from his fist and wondering for how long she would have to be quiet. Was it just to pass the border or would she have the identety of Grace Sandern under the whole time they was in this country? She couldn't ask him so she just decided to wait. She remembered that this was the enemys country. Would they recognise her as their enemy? The guys at the gate hadn't atleast. They walked to the infirmary and went in.

A nurse walks up to me and says "What happen this time Mr. Sandern...".

"I got my hand cut by a knife." I say to her. She take off the makeshift bandage and looks at it and quickly rushes me to a doctor.

Grace was suprised that the nurse knew him, everyone seemed to knew him here. She opened his bandage and then quickly dragged him away, leaving her bloody ribbon to drop to the floor. She tried to follow them, worried about what she had seen in the wound, but a doctor grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.

"Where do you think you are going, miss?" She didn't know if she should speak so she just gave him an angry look and tried to rush away from him but he stopped her again and dragged her into an office. He locked the door and sat her down in a chair and started to ask her questions, what she was doing, who she was...but all she did was to stare at the floor and worried about Justin.

About fifteen minutes later I have a new bandage that will stop the bleeding by tomorrow. I then go back to the main room to see she was not there. I go up to the lady at the front desk, "did you see my sister, she is smaller than me and she has blonde hair."

The man was pressing her wrists to the armrests and had his face not far from hers.

"If you not answer me I'll call the police!" He threatened while she was looking down at her knees. What should she do? She couldn't stand up, he was too strong, and she couldn't speak. Then she saw someone in the room outside talking to a lady at a desk trew the window. It was Justin! He was okay! Was he looking for her?

When he ran into the room she had to hold back a "Justin!" Comming out of her mouth. She gave him a scared look and the doctor didn't release her. Her wrists had started to hurt by now.

"Mute or not she tried to break into the hospital rooms, and then she tried to flee when I catched her red-handed." The doctor said to Justin. "And who are you?"

I stare at her for a moment "What do you expect from a girl who is worried, she was trying to find me because a nurse walked off with me into a room to take care of my hand." I say to him. I then look at the the girl who seemed to be alittle scared. "And who am I? I'm Justin Sandern, we are the top soldiers of the war. So are you gonna mess with the Sandern family or let the poor girl go?" I tell him looking mad at him.

She looked angry at the doctor. He realeased her hands and said;

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't realise that she was with you Mr. Sandern!" He cleared his throat and continued. "Well, I guess that this was a simple misunderstanding and it's nothing to be upset about, so you can go now!" He was clearly worried that justin should report his acts to his boss. Grace rubbed her sore wrists and went over to Justin, happy to be on his side again.

"I thought so, next time don't judge first off." I say to him. We leave the infirmary and we get far enough away from the gate and infirmary. "Alright Grace, you can talk now." I go to a small like village and there was a house that looked empty and I enter it.

They went to a village and went inside an empty house.

"How's your hand? What did they do?" She said as they entered. It was a pretty big building with two floors and a couple of big rooms. It had nice furniture in a very mordern style. In her city everyone had been quite poor and not many had this nice houses. In this village everyone seemed rich.

She went into the kitchen, and was amazed. Everything was new and clean, the fridge was filled with food and she didn't know what to do with half of the machines in there. "Wow..." She whispered. "Are you hungry? I can cook something if you want to, what do you like?" She started looking threw the fridge and found ingredients from all over the world and fresh fruits and vegetables. "Does everyone of your people own this much money?" She asked him as she looked around in the wonderful room.

"Well, my hand is fine, the bleeding will stop shortly. I could go for some food if your willing to make some. Well, we have a lot of wealth but if you think this house is amazing you should see my parents. We may be a rich country but we need to get out of here by tomorrow. Our travels will take us two day to get there." I say to her responding to all her questions. I go up stairs and I reach into the closet for my leather jacket I placed there before I left for war. I place it on and I walk downstairs.

"I since I've been in your country how did you even survive the barbed wire and iron gates preventing you from leaving your country?" I ask her because if i lived there I would die. "Also how could you live with hardly any money being given to you?". Her life style was a lot different then mine but I guess I understand why they were so poor, thanks to us.

"Back home my family was rich, but we didn't have even the half of this!" She said pushing away the thoughts of her probably dead family. "Where are we going by the way?"

As he went up stairs Grace started to make spagghetti bolognese. Soon he came down with a leather jacket and the scent of Italy had already spreaded in the kitchen. "They did say that it was impossible to leave, the gouverment. They talked about fences that reached to heaven and unbreakable walls that protected the border. And we belived in them, I guess. And about our money...I guess that we were used to it. We had never been this rich, so we didn't know how life could be. Can you set the table? This is ready in a couple of minutes."

"Ya I will, we are gonna have to go to the next country over, it's the safest It can take us, it's very poor. I know my government only controls the people who atleast have some wealth. But there aren't much rich people out there." I say to her.

I start to set the table feeling bad for her she has been through a lot that she shouldn't have dealt with.

I don't even know why I helped her this far, I just hate feeling guilty for the crimes I done.

"The main thing I hate about my country is that Women are treated like tools that eventually die out. They couldn't care if they died at a young age. Everyone wanted just to have a male first child. If they had a girl everyone thought it was a sign of disrespect and they tortured women until they die out." I muttered not very loud.
