Fantasy The True Strength of The Warrior

Adrian wrapped the other end of the rope around his wrist and sat back on the shore. A small tree was lying on its side next to him, so he began stripping it of its bark.

She clung the bottom of the lake, going deeper and deeper as she held her breath, her eyes clenched shut, her hands moving around in a frantic search until they clung to a small black, smooth rock, forcing her to return to the surface for air.

"Did you find it?" I called out. "I have the bark and the branch, whenever you're ready."

She re-emerged from the lake, her body erupting from the water, the cold sticking to her as if icicles had already formed. Her hand clutched the black stone and tossed it to him, now, already shivering as her nose was bright red. She put up her hood, covering her head from the chill of the wind, the only thing that would help her as she felt her body temperature dropping. "F...Found it..." Her teeth chattered, the bones were clattering on her insides as the fear of hypothermia began to creep into her mind.

Adrian grabbed the branch from next to him and ran over to her. He pulled out his dagger and began striking it against the flint, causing sparks to leapfrom it and onto the stringy bark. After a few stikes, smoke began to rise from the wood. He cupped his hands around the head of the torch and began blowing lightly. A small flame flared from the bark, catching on and slowly spreading around the head of the torch. "Ill grab some wood for a fire, you stay here and get warmed up a bit" Adrian said, holding out the torch for her.

She sat next to the small fire, completely huddled up in a ball, covering her entire body as she hugged her knees to her chest, the teeth chattering slowly receding, the warmth biting at her body, however, it did not chomp, despite how close she was the the savior of her feelings. The warmth doused over her graciously as she let out a sigh.

Adrian pulled the small hatchet out of his pack and began hacking branches off of trees. The cold bit at his body, causing every swing hurt like hell. After he had gathered an armful of wood, he made his way over to the fire. It was small, but as he added more wood, it grew. As soon as Adrian finished positioning it, he pulled off his soaked coat and laid it next to the fire, hoping that it would be dry by morning. His arms were bare, exposed to the biting wind, but it was better than being wet.

She remained under her clothes and let the heat of the flame wrap around her, her body still stiff, deathly so... with every moment passing she became more and more relaxed, if the moving of her thoracic cavity wasn't visible enough, she could have easily passed for a corpse, most likely what she wish she was right now.

"So... i never caught your name" Adrian said, poking the fire with a stick. She was truly a mystery to him. What kind of person would court death just to get away from a few people? He hadn't looked back while they were chasing her, so he had no idea who they were.

"My name... uh..." She mumbled, fumbling around for something fake to say, just in case he was indeed a spy sent after her, "Anna... My name is Anna..." She let a small smile cross her lips as she remained humble and bent before the fire.

"Well, its nice to meet you Anna. Even if we are, you know, on the brink of freezing to death out here" he replied, running his hand through his hair. He was never skilled at conversing. He preferred the silence of the forest.

She shuddered, then laughed as a humorous thought came into her mind. "Cold night... isn't it?" She sarcastically delivered the statement as she leaned back a bit, her blue eyes shining from the darkness of her hood.

"Mmm-hmm" Adrian replied. "Cold and... wet." He dragged himself slightly closer to the fire.

She smiled, the attempt at humor at least seemed to brighten her spirits as she sat in the snow, the ripping pain shooting through her.

Adrian looked around, hoping to spot some game. "Are you warm? My coat is still a bit wet, but it can shield you from the wind" he offered.

She shook her head at the offer, "Thank you... but no..." She wrapped her cloak a little tighter, if part of her was going to be warm, all of her was going to be warm, as she preferred it to stay that way.

Artorias stood at the edge of the cliff, near the roaring waterfall, peering into the dark woods below. "Hmm," looks behind him at the other knights, shivering in their metal armor. "Go back to the captain, tell him I'm going for a tad bit of..." Stares at the woods, just able to make out a slight orangish thing far below, "Hunting." Artorias waited as the knights slowly walked back, grinning under his helmet. "You better run quick and steadily little rabbit, the wolf is coming." Artorias jumps down, landing on a ledge a tad bit down from the top.

Artorias soon landed on the forest ground, unsheathing his greatsword, not even attempting to hide the sound as the clanking of his armor echos throughout the forest, trying to find anything to track them by, assuming they moved towards the forest to hide if the knights had came after them.

Adrian propped himself up against a rock, Running a cloth over his crossbow. It was one of a kind, made to silently fire bolts, perfect for hunting. There was no way he was going to let it rust over. He had lost about half of his bolts in the river, but he still had about a dozen left. Hopefully, he would only have to use them on animals.

(Sorry if there are spelling mistakes, I'm replying on my phone)

Artorias tripped and stumbled through the forest, his helmet combined with the dim lighting not really helping him at all. "Hmm, don't seem to be in the forest, yet I they are close enough they might hear me coming or heard me coming..." Groans, slamming his head into a tree, "which could mean they're hours away!"

Adrian looks up when he hears a clang, maybe a few dozen yards away. Not animal- something metal. He crouches, loading a bolt into his crossbow and backing up slowly. "Anna... We should move..." He whispers to his companion.

She heard the suspicious sound as well, her hand creeping to her blade as frozen water dripped from her chin, she wasn't in the best circumstance to fight, but should it call for it, she would defend her companion and defeat whatever this heavy hunter may be. The only way she was to assume it was human is that she was far too used to the sound of heavy armor clinking, she began to back up slowly, looking at Adrian, "What way is there to escape?" She let her eyebrows come to form a knot in between her brow, she looked around through the massive tree-lines then back to the frozen monster that had put her in this uncomfortable situation.

Artorias headed towards the lake, armor still clanking, greatsword sheathed once again, grumbling. "I swear if I have to crawl back up that cliff to say I lost the target I'm going to jump off that cliff." Artorias stared through the trees, able to faintly make out an orangish thing, possibly a fire. "Hmm...." Artorias slowly walked towards it, the clanking getting louder.

'Anna's' heart began to race as the sounds got closer and closer, her hand know tight around the hilt of her sword, unsheathing it slowly as the magnificent silver-white steel blade appeared was drawn from it's scabbard. The jewel on the pommel flashing bright in the forest as it reflected the light of the fire.

Artorias stopped, unsheathing his greatsword, stepping tot he edge of the light produced by the flames. Artorias chuckled, looking at the girl with drawn sword. "You think that blade can stop me?"

"I know not who you are sir..." She removed the sword completely and let it rest with the tip to the snow, "But I do not intend to allow myself nor my companion to come to any harm." Her body was clearly shaking from the cold yet she stood there as though she meant something, as though 'Anna' had a little more heart than just a scared girl.
