Leon stretched from his nap on the hill in the far corner of the school's field. The ringing of the bell woke him up. "Hah, class to go to," he sighed as he stood up and collected his bag. It was the end of lunch, which meant he only had one more class to go to. Leon walked back to the building where his next class was, pulling out the book he was currently reading and reading it as he walked, not looking where he was going.
Serena, having just left her large gathering of people after a riveting discusssion over the cafeteria's food, had rushed off to the locker to retrieve the books needed for her next class. People passing by greeted her, whilst she responded back in the most friendly of manners.
After gathering her books, she hurried off towards her class moving at ninety to nothing. Careless and bubbly as usual, she didn't pay any attention to what she was doing. She was simply humming to herself, completely engrossed by her thoughts. This, of course, was probably the reason why she ended up slamming right into another moving figure.
The sounds of school materials hitting the floor echoed through the hall. She rubbed her lower back, having fallen onto her bottom, and quickly pulled together an apologetic smile. "Sorry for bumping into you! I wasn't watching where I was going!" She said, having yet to look at the other. Instead, she went about gathering the supplies that had been dropped.
Leon also fell down, his hair getting in the way of his eyes. He dropped his book, but was able to find it and find the spot he was at before he dropped it. Leon then decided to help the person who he bumped in to after he fixed his hair. Picking up some of the other scattered supplies, he handed them to the girl. "Here, you dropped these," he said with a quiet voice, handing them to the girl. Leon hasn't seen her face yet.
Serena took the books from the boy, holding them while she used her free hand to gather any other materials that might not have been picked up yet. She quickly stood after she retrieved her things, putting them away in her shoulder bag. After that, she turned to the boy and held her hand out to him.
"Thanks for gathering some of my things. Im sorry, once again, for what I did. Can I help you up?" She asked, listening intently to make sure she could hear his soft voice in case he spoke again.
The moment the girl's eyes caught his, Leon immediately got up and walked away to his next class, his face red from being stared at. "Please don't be late," he said to himself to save some stares as he walked into the classroom.
Serena blinked, feeling slightly offended and concerned at the fact that the boy had just ran off without a word. Without any reassurance that all was okay, or any indication he was alright. She sighed, figuring she shouldn't have expected any of that. Yet, as she walked to her class, she felt her insides being gnawed at with the desire to figure out why he'd just abruptly walked off. She wanted to find him and figure out why.
Leon sighed as he left the classroom. He then headed over to his locker to exchange his stuff before he headed home. But before he did, he walked over to the music room, peeking in to see if anyone was inside.
Serena had rushed out of class, going to her locker to get whatever books she'd need for tonight's homework. She then proceeded to go around the halls of the school in search of the white haired boy who'd abandoned her earlier. She noticed a figure in the distance, standing in front of the music room. "Hey! You!" She called out, noticing the white hair and figuring he was the only one with that color hair attending this school. "You're that kid from earlier, right?" She asked, approaching him with a fast paced walk.
"Uh, uh...," Leon mumbled as he stumbled backwards, tripping over a loose drumstick and falling over onto the percussion equipment, making loud crashing sounds. "Ow..." He rubbed his head because the cowbell fell on it. Leon immediately went into the fetal position because he could sense the girl staring at him.
Serena's eyes widened at all the loud crashing noises caused by the boy stumbling over a drumstick. She rushed over, looking down at him with concern woven all over her face. "Um....I'm sorry if I surprised you and caused you to fall....But I was searching for this kid from earlier. I thought I'd upset him somehow so I wanted to find him and figure out how I'd done so." She said while trying to move around the mess created from the fall. "Here. Let me help you up."
"N-no thanks," Leon said, getting up on his own, but not lifting his head. "I-I'm fine. I'm just gonna get out of your way now." He quickly left the room and into the hallway, heading towards the school exit.
Serena blinked, following him out of the room and walking down the hall at a fast pace. "Is something wrong?" She called out, feeling overwhelmed by the fact this had happened to her twice today. What was she doing wrong? She finally managed to walk fast enough to catch up to him, reaching to grab his wrist and stop his getaway. "I don't bite or anything."
Leon shuddered as the girl grabbed his wrist, taking a deep breath before turning around, but he still kept his head down to avoid eye contact. "You'll laugh when I tell you this, but...," Leon said quietly. "I have Scocophobia, meaning that I'm afraid of being stared at, so p-please, leave me alone."
"Scocophobia?" Serena asked, stumbling over the word before slowly releasing his wrist. "I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable but....We can still talk without me looking at you!" She suggested, shifting her gaze to the ground as a smile formed along her lips. "See? Look at me. I"m not looking at you at all! So we can talk without any trouble!" She enthused as she held her hands behind her back. She had a persistent edge to her personality. She loved making friends, with anyone and everyone, and she refused to give up because of a fear. There was no real harm here, right?
"Friends?" Leon stuttered. "No one really offered to become my friend before... People always made fun of me for my white hair because it was weird to them."
"Well, I don't care what your hair looks like." Serena said, casually, before extending her hand out in his direction, shifting her gaze to a nearby poster on the wall. "So, I'll be your first friend! I won't make fun of you for trivial things like your hair, or your style, or your fears! Everyone has flaws! There is nothing wrong with that! So....You wanna be friends?"
"So, who're you?" Serena asked, shaking his hand momentarily before pulling it back. She put her hands in the pockets of her jacket, tilting her head curiously while she kept her eyes on the wall. It was difficult, but she was managing. Anything to keep her new friend uncomfortable.
"It's Leon Crowlin," Leon responded. He took a deep breath. "I think I can look at you face to face now..." This was how he gets over his fear with certain people, but it didn't always work.
"My name is Serena Lowells. I look forward to becoming a great friend of yours." Serena said with a smile, slowly nodding and turning to look at him. "Tell me if you feel uncomfortable. I won't be offended or anything." She said gently, tilting her head. "How are you feeling?"
Leon looked up and immediately blushed a little after seeing Serena's face. "Y-yeah, I'm fine," he mumbled. He started to breathe a bit heavier, trying to endure his fear from his new friend.
"Yay!" Serena's smile widened to a grin before she took the other's hand. "Why don't we hang out? There's this rad ice cream parlor down the street! And a park near it! We can grab a frozen treat and go play on the swings! Sound fun?" She asked, looking at him expectantly before slowly releasing his hand. "Sorry." She said. "Touching could make you uncomfortable too...."
"It's fine...," Leon said quietly. "That does sound...nice, though." His fear finally got the best of him, forcing him to look down again, but he couldn't forget Serena's cute face.
Serena watched his eyes shift away, and she managed to hide any disappointment lying within the depths of her heart. He had a fear, and fears take time to overcome. They were frjends. That's all that mattered in her optimistic world. "Then, c'mon. I'll even pay!" She said, beginning to rush to the exit, though she paused to make sure he was following. "Least I can do for the trouble I caused, y'know?"
