Fantasy The Secret City

It took several seconds for Skylar to register the pain of the burning coffee on his skin. He didn't even bother looking up at whoever spilled the coffee, but instead wiped at his face with his sleeves furiously, hissing at the feeling of his burning face. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that Koto's papers were still safe and dry, and couldn't help but let out a small sigh of relief.

When he finally managed to dry his face up, he looked up warily at whoever "attacked" him, and saw a young man who hurriedly apologized to him.

"Uh, it's alright."

"Yes, but make your question to the point as possible."

Silently cheering, I handed her the map with my new workplace circled in red.

"Do you mind telling me how to get there? Or maybe tell me how to read a map...."

Checking the time, I realized that I would probably be late on the first day.

*Inner sigh* I'm gonna make a bad first impression....

"Waaa....I really am sorry..." Having a rather apologetic smile on him, Kimura took out a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to Skylar. "You sure you don't have to go the bathroom? Your clothes are all wet." He said, then blinked, as if realizing something. "I'll pay for your clothes or I'll buy you new ones so don't worry."

Picking up the empty cup of coffee, he threw it into the garbage can near them.

In the mean time Shou and Belle were playing the game rock, paper, scissors and by Shou's hanging head it was obvious which one had been winning. "Ah cute" He exclaimed, giving a casual smile. "We'll continue this battle later, kay?" He mummered and ruffled Belle's hair before playfully winking. "After you" Shou said, opening the door to his room.

Sakura smiled back at Shou and and grabbed Belles hand "Why thank you" she giggled as passed Shou leaving her new home. Belle rushed passed Sakura and ran straight to the elevator she pushed the button and smirked at Sakura "Hey! I wanted to push it" Sakura dropped her head and walked to the elevator. "So where are we off to" she tilted her head slightly to the side and casually smiled.

"Hmmm...theres a cafe right around the block" Shou suggested, a smile slowly forming across his lips. Wishful Star's cafe was a small but cozy and popular shop that had the right amount of calm but upbeat nature to it that Shou had come to love. He would always stop by there in the mornings for his usual cup of coffee and not to mention the best taiyaki in the whole city! It was one of those sacred places that the wind deity had genuinely come to enjoy and care for. He surprisingly, rarely invites others to join him since he considered it as his own special daily ritual.

"Hmm....sure" she replied. Sakura had loved cafe's, it was her favorite to do with parents before Belle was born. Sakura looked at Shou who seemed to be deep in thought. "Lets go!" Sakura smiled with glee and began skipping out the door like she did as a child. If there was one thing that Sakura loved more then her sister, it was food. "Oh.. I don't know the way" she moved a hand to face face and laughed. "I guess you should lead the way huh" she peered back at Shou.

"Ah, I can't accept your money. Besides, I can just go home and change," Skylar said as he stood up. His clothes were sticking to his body, and it didn't feel pleasant at all. Might as well go home right now so he doesn't end up smelling like coffee the entire day.

Koto looked back and forth between Skylar and the other young man before he silently packed away his items and left the scene. People were gradually coming into the library, which meant it would be best for him to move. He wasn't one who particularly liked crowded spaces. The man had thought he had found the most peaceful place in town, but apparently he was wrong. Little children would run around while leaving books on the ground, groups of teenagers would laugh as they talked obnoxiously at each other, middle age adults would angrily tap away at their technological devices, and the elders would pick up their calls with an extremely loud voice.

Of course, not all of the library guests acted this way. But the ones that made loud noise particularly stood out to Koto, making him quite disgruntled. He glanced at Skylar as he climbed up the staircase to the upper floor, wondering if he should have said some sort of goodbye. But there was no need to, was there? It would probably be the first and last time he ever met the lad.

Yes, it would be last time anyway. Koto silently walked through hallway of the upper floor, when he reached a door with his room number '673' he pushed it open and closed it again after he had walked inside, not bothering to lock it.

The small place he had rented just had four rooms. There was a living room, a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Quite small, but perfectly fine for Koto. He didn't have so much of his own belongings besides his paper, brush and ink.

The man placed down his items and sat on the wooden floor, leaning back with his arms to support himself from falling onto the ground. He stared up at the ceiling, wondering if any of the villagers had reincarnated. They were quite nice people, probably the closest thing to a family he ever had.

Kohana hummed as she walked along the side walks with the bell flower pot in her hands. She had just finished moving around her furniture, now all she needed were some nice friends to make it complete. She had switched into her child form just before she left her house, for she didn't want to intimidate others. Somehow, whenever she presented herself in her normal form, no one wanted to approach her. For what reason they had, she didn't know.

The not young, but little girl joyfully walked away from the countless buildings of the city and walked down a spiral staircase that hung against a side of a road. A wide smile marked her face when she confirmed it led down to the nature field, some would call it a flower field, or a grass field. The sight of the field would always change depending on the day. Today it was a garden for the happy girl. The grass swayed as the gentle breeze blew by. Kohana walked under the shade of a large oak tree that was rooted in the very middle of the field, she carefully jumped over a small river stream that ran through the field. She sat down against the grand tree trunk and placed down the flower pot next to her.

She inhaled the fresh flower fragrances and closed her eyes. The spirit was in ease at this moment, for this was practically-nearly heaven.

Shou let out an amused laugh and nodded his head as he took his place in front of them. He led them down the boulevard, pointing out little shops and locations like a tour guide. It only took them 10-15 minutes until they were standing in front of a quaint little cafe that looked as if it had been taken right out of the streets of Paris. The smell of coffee and a delicious pastries wafted from the entrance as Shou opened one of the glass-paned doors. "After you, milady" Shou exclaimed, bowing like a butler.

"Why thank you, kind sir" she giggled and entered the lovely cafe. The smell filled her nose and made her stomach growl loud. Her hands flew to her stomach. Sakuras face became beat red. "How many" asked the waiter. "Oh for three" she mumbled. The waiters led them to a table right near the window. "What can I get you" she questioned Sakura "A coffee and waffles please" she replied "And for that little one, orange juice and pancakes" she gestured towards Belle. Sakura looked across at Shou and waited for him to order.

Kimura felt a guilty sensation rising up in him. "No, no, that'll be too mean. I spilled my coffee on you after all, and look at you all uncomfortable...Ahahaha..." He let out a dry laugh.

"How far is your home? I shall at least send you back...Is it far? If it's far then my house is closer. I can't afford watching you be all sticky all the way when it's my fault." He let out an apologetic grin.

"I'll take the usual, Rosa" He said with a wink. A light blush coated the waiters cheeks before she clicked her tongue and scratched the order down on her notepad. "You never change, Shou" She sighed but offered a flirtatious smile in return before walking over to the next table. He let out a soft laugh and leaned forward, placing an elbow onto the table. He put his head onto his hand and momentarily just enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere around him before turning his attention to Sakura and Belle. Even for him, he found their encounter an odd one and even more so that on the same day they had spent the night at his place. To be honest he had said it more out of a teasing impulse but then why did he so readily accept two strangers into his home? Shou scrolled his eyes down Sakura's figure then glanced at Belle who sat happily smiling in her seat. Well for one he would have never let the two wander around the city at night, his conscious would have killed him by morning, and the fact that they were too cute to turn down. But there was something that had been nagging him for quite some time now. "Do you want to call your relatives back at Lavender street? They must be worried that you didn't show up last night" Shou suggested, taking out his phone. If there was something he was good at, it was indirect questions.

"Oh, umm well you see, we don't have an relatives that live here because..." Sakura trailed off. Sakura wasn't read to admit what really happened, not to mention the fact that she was the cause of her parents death. She stared at Belle who was happy and smiley thankfully she was to young to remember that day. Sakura glanced around the cafe and noticed how everyone was so happy that it almost made her sad. She looked at Shou "So how long have you lived here" she smiled

Apple examined the map the stranger gave her. It was the same as her's only with a place circled in red. "You see this map is suppose to be exactly 5 feet for each centimeter on this paper. However I had calculated earlier that the map was off by 2 feet and .78 inches. So in actuality it is 7 feet and .78 inches per a centimeter..." Apple looked up quickly verifying that the gender of the person in front of her was indeed male. "... Since you are a male like my father a presume my calculations do not help and therefore I will say 'Left, Right, Straight, Straight, and left when you get to a gated walkway.' Did you get everything?" She held out the map to return it to the guy before her.

@LoveMyHate

I felt a bit insulted, but her words rang true. It's a lot easier for me if she gave me simple directions rather than all those feet, inches, and centimeters.

"Turn left, turn right, go straight, and go left again...No..Turn left when you reach a gated walkway right? I think I got it."

Taking the map from her, I politely nodded 'Thanks' and 'Goodbye'. Upon reaching my workplace, I apologized to the boss, who didn't seem to care very much. Changing into my uniform quickly, I went to a empty cashier.

"New cashier open, may I take your order? Have you tried our satisfries yet? I recommend them."

And so, work went on.

Apple figured if he got lost it was his own fault. But as he left she felt a bit compelled to follow him. He would question himself sometime but always chose the right way. With the stranger arriving at his destination Apple was satisfied. She hadn't felt compelled to verify the safety of another since she was 10 making sure her father made it back. Apple looked up at the open sky, and her wings began to flutter vigorously. "oh no, not in the middle of the street!" she quickly ducked into an Alleyway before the anticipation was too much. She held her book tightly as she began her assent for the sky.
