Still working my way through the manuscript, but the first concept that's sprung to mind is maybe a Water or Wood-aspect who is, like, the Satrap's flustered but efficient clerk; but also an assured Martial Artist?

And I wouldn't be against being a Satrap if nobody else has ideas for it. Rykon knows the lore better so he'd probably make a better one.

I got a few concepts in mind.

My lazy one armed swordsman, trying to get away with the barest minimum.

Or

A naval officer in charge of keeping the tradeways clear and the waterways protected.

Given that we are established influential figures in the city. Will we be getting bonus merits to match this, or do we need to use our starting merits to reflect it?

Hm, or seeing how the slimmed-down attributes work, maybe an investigatory type. With Water's stubborn wearing away, and a Finesse (rather than Force) build, you get a Sam Vimes type instead of a Sherlock.

We don't need a proper Circle of aspects, do we jaydude ?

And I’m thinking a spy for the Satrap. Stealthy. Able to gather intel in impossible ways. And an assassin, as well, of course.

I'm thinking Air Aspect perfectionist administrative genius who can't resist trying to fix everything all at once everywhere, often with theoretically optimal solutions too complex to be remotely practical without extensive infrastructure that doesn't exist and training that would take generations. It doesn't help that she's liable to lose all interest in it half way through because she's too excited about her new, even better idea. She's a nice contrast to Satori - she's still immensely problematic, but because she's obsessed with the new instead of obsessed with preserving the status quo.

I'm still conflicted on Aspect for the new character. Ironically Air and Water were the two top contenders.

If I went spy, I guess I should choose Air? I actually really have no preference, though. I don’t want to double up on Aspects. So, if someone wants Air, I might go Wood and make her a courtesan using her charms to get close to those of the court and extract information.

Strictly speaking, only one of you needs to have their Merits reflect their station; I feel the satrap should have an Influence rating of at least three - to represent their position - but the others are just staff who may or may not have worked to build up influence of their own in the couple of years they've been in Kandara. Also, you do already get to start with an additional Tertiary Merit by virtue of beginning play at Essence 2, and you get to use your Essence rating as an interchangeable Merit as per the Prince of the Earth advantage.

All this being said, I am willing to discuss matters with you if you wish.

Makes more sense for Random to be Satrap.

I can take a Manato-like role with a merchant or musician, or perhaps try a soldier type. Either way, I'd probably keep the more easy going attitude.

I still have no solid idea yet. So waiting to ee what others make. Maybe will lean into being a body guard or combatant of some kind. Not sure yet. Having had the spark of inspiration yet, but haven't quite had time to think on it.
